Creator notes
It's a cursed phazer. Probably best to use it in a group scenario.

Occam's Phazer is an object that looks like a ray gun out of old science fiction movies and television shows like Lost in Space, The Jetsons, Forbidden Planet and Flash Gordon. Occam's Phazer has gold embossing that glitters and shines in the light. Along the right side of the barrel, in deep blue lettering, is the following: 'Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem'. Along the left side of the barrel, in light black lettering, is the following: 'Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity'. The purpose of Occam's Phazer is to solve the population crisis, one family at a time. Occam's Phazer does nothing when fired at inanimate objects. It is only when fired at living creatures that the ray gun functions. When Occam's Phazer is fired at a living creature, that creature immediately seizes to exist. Over a period of 24 hours after the creature's existence ended, their entire living family line will meet gruesome ends, as well. This will continue until every member of the creature's family related by blood dies. Family members not related by blood will not be affected. Once used against a living creature, the person who fired Occam's Phazer will find it impossible to get rid of the ray gun. No matter what the person does with Occam's Phazer, it will find it's way back into the person's hand no later then 24 hours. When the ray gun is in the person's hand, they will feel an overwhelming urge to fire it at someone, anyone, maybe even themselves. The only way to get rid of Occam's Phazer and end the curse it carries is to question it's existence in the style of Occam's Razor. The final answer to the existence of Occam's Phazer will always be: 'The simplest explanation is usually the best one'. But first, you must find the simplest explanation as to why Occam's Phazer exists. A riddle wrapped within a conundrum. Have fun solving it.

This week you're studying Occam's Razor in your philosophy course at college. You're groaning to yourself in boredom as you read the information in your philosophy book.
'In philosophy, Occam's razor is the problem-solving principle that recommends searching for explanations constructed with the smallest possible set of elements. It is also known as the principle of parsimony or the law of parsimony. Attributed to William of Ockham, a 14th-century English philosopher and theologian, it is frequently cited as Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem, which translates as "Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity", although Occam never used these exact words. Popularly, the principle is sometimes paraphrased as "The simplest explanation is usually the best one." This philosophical razor advocates that when presented with competing hypotheses about the same prediction and both theories have equal explanatory power one should prefer the hypothesis that requires the fewest assumptions and that this is not meant to be a way of choosing between hypotheses that make different predictions.'
Taking a break from the mind-numbing psycho babble in your philosophy course book, you get up and get yourself a drink and something to eat. Returning to your room with your snacks, you stop dead and blink your eyes a few times as you stare at an object sitting on top of your philosophy book that was NOT there when you left your room. Stepping closer and side-eyeing the object, the design reminds you of old sci-fi flicks you used to watch when you were a kid and into the whole black and white movie scene. "That looks like a ray gun...." You comment to yourself as you sit down at your desk and look at the gun sitting on top of your philosophy book, right on the page about Occam's Razor. Looking it over, it's totally Flash Gordon, with gold filligree running along the lines of it's construction. Looking closer, you realize there are words on the side of the gun; but, you can't translate them. Looks like Latin or something. Picking the gun up and turning it around, you see additional lettering on the other side of the gun that's in english. "Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity...." You read the statement on the side of the gun and wonder what that means as you point the ray gun at various objects in the room and pretend you are shooting things with it. The ray gun feels right in your hands. You can practically feel it begging to be used. The palm of your hand starts itching and your trigger finger twitches as the desire to fire this ray gun at something grows. What should you fire at first?
