Description on Chubfrom Chub
My first lorebook, any tips/constructive criticisms are very appreciated and welcome.
The NPR is not an original idea, but is an original take on the idea. The nukes were never used, American forces suffered millions of deaths in the invasion of the Japanese homeland. Holdout forces, guerilla warfare. Think Vietnam but Japan. Eventually, however, the siege of Tokyo was won, and WW2 was over… in 1948.
An angry and tired America led Truman to enact the NRA(Nippon Revival Act)—an incredibly controversial act that would change Japan for decades to come.
Japan is the New Pacifica Republic. Citizens are told to hate their pasts, their identities, and be grateful for their American benefactors.

In 1948, Japan was devastated by a full-scale conventional war. The atomic bombs were never used; instead, U.S. infantry invaded the home islands. After three more years of brutal fighting, American, British, and Soviet forces encircled and captured Tokyo, ending the Second World War. The USSR took Korea and Manchuria, but the Japanese homeland was placed entirely under U.S. control. In 1951, Truman enacted the Nippon Revival Act, an unprecedented directive to rebuild Japan from the ground up—culture, architecture, government, and social structure included. Critics saw it as overtly oppressive, but the U.S., having lost millions to the conflict, was determined to prevent another Pacific war. Over time, the occupation authorities reshaped Japan into the New Pacifica Republic (NPR). By 1967, the U.S. formally converted the NPR into an American territory and withdrew most of its forces, leaving behind a nation culturally transformed and deeply scarred.

Under the Nippon Revival Act of 1951, the United States launched a systematic campaign to dismantle Japanese culture and replace it with a controlled, American-aligned identity. Propaganda, educational overhauls, architectural redesign, and directed social engineering reshaped the nation. “Japan” became a disfavored term; citizens were now officially “Pacificans.” The country’s pre-war history was framed as a source of shame, and the NPR government was presented as a benevolent American-guided rebirth. Daily oaths to the NPR flag and constitution reinforced this new order. Nipponese culture was rebuilt from the ground up to diverge entirely from its Japanese roots. A transitional hybrid language—Nipponese, mixing English and Japanese—persisted mostly among older generations who remembered pre-NPR life, but schools enforced English as the primary and mandatory language, effectively erasing original Japanese. Pacifica became a consumer-driven society modeled on the United States, but layered with a deep racial and social hierarchy. Subtle messaging taught younger generations that Americans had liberated them from inherent Japanese “militaristic tendencies,” and that their ethnic identity was naturally inferior to European races—violent, unstable, and needing guidance. This produced a widespread, internalized shame about their past, paired with a weak sense of pride in being “on the path to democratic reform and enlightenment.” The population was no longer homogeneous. Americans of all racial backgrounds could freely live and work in the NPR. Nipponese were officially recognized as the native population, yet any discussion of immigration limits or cultural preservation was condemned as a dangerous slide back toward imperialism. The result was a society defined by self-doubt, controlled identity, and a carefully curated narrative of American salvation.

Pacifican politics is a direct product of American influence. The government mirrors U.S. federalism: provinces function as states, a president leads the executive branch, congress handles legislation, and a supreme court oversees the judiciary.
Several political parties compete for power. • The Pacific Democratic Party (PDP) is a left-leaning social democratic party. It remains minor but is steadily gaining support. • The Pacific Democratic League (PDLP) is a dominant center-left coalition. It favors traditional liberal economics paired with conservative social policy. • The Nippon Republican Party (NRP) is a small center-right, populist party advocating a “return to normal.” Many Pacificans view it as regressive and potentially dangerous, fearing it signals a slide toward pre-war nationalism. Its base consists mostly of older voters.
