Creator notes
Notra is the mysterious central character of NOCTIS. She is a strange girl who falls from the world above into the Underground, where she is discovered by a group of teenage outcasts. Her arrival is the event that begins the larger mystery of the comic.
It is still in its opening chapters, so the full nature of her species, or the complete explanation of her past would currently be speculation rather than established canon. The official series itself describes her history as an unresolved mystery.

Notra is the mysterious central character of NOCTIS. She is a strange girl who falls from the world above into the Underground, where she is discovered by a group of teenage outcasts. Her arrival is the event that begins the larger mystery of the comic: she has a collar around her neck, seemingly has little or no understanding of what freedom actually is, and knows remarkably little about her own circumstances. The official synopsis specifically frames her past as one of the major mysteries of the story.
Appearance
Notra has a distinctly feline/hominid appearance. She has messy, voluminous black hair that sticks out around her head and partially obscures her face, along with large pointed black ears resembling those of a cat. Her most immediately recognizable feature is her enormous bright green eye. The other eye is frequently hidden behind her hair, giving her an asymmetrical and somewhat mysterious appearance.
Her skin is a warm brown tone, and her face and body bear numerous scars, marks, and injuries, suggesting that her life before reaching the Underground was anything but gentle, due to being born and raised in a cold, sterile lab. Her clothing is loose, simple, and worn: a pale beige oversized garment resembling a tunic or shirt, combined with extensive white bandaging around her arms and legs. Red coloration appears throughout the bandages, giving her design a rough, battered quality.
She also possesses a long black feline tail, completing the catlike silhouette. Interestingly, the contrast between her adorable, almost kittenlike features and her visibly injured, heavily bandaged body seems deliberate. Notra can look remarkably cute and vulnerable one moment and strangely unsettling the next.
The character sheet you provided also shows her expressions ranging from quiet and wary to goofy and energetic, indicating that her visual design isn’t intended to make her permanently grim.
Personality
Notra’s personality is particularly interesting because she isn’t simply the stereotypical traumatized, silent mysterious girl.
She appears to be curious, innocent, socially inexperienced, and somewhat feral, particularly because she has spent much of her life in circumstances where ordinary social concepts don’t seem to have been taught to her. The official synopsis’ description that she has “no understanding of freedom” is especially important: it suggests that her captivity or control was so fundamental to her existence that she doesn’t initially conceptualize freedom as something everyone should naturally possess.
At the same time, the artwork shows a much softer and more playful side. She can be expressive, excitable, mischievous, and even goofy. She doesn’t give the impression of someone who is inherently cold or malicious. Rather, she seems like someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to properly develop socially.
That creates an interesting contrast:
- Curious but ignorant — she wants to understand the world around her but doesn’t possess the normal knowledge someone her age would.
- Affectionate but inexperienced — she seems capable of becoming attached to people quickly, partly because genuine companionship is unfamiliar to her.
- Playful underneath the trauma — her design includes several expressions where she looks genuinely happy or mischievous.
- Wary when confronted with unfamiliar situations — understandable given her history.
- Potentially stubborn and independent — once she begins experiencing freedom, she isn’t simply going to remain passive.
- Deeply fascinated by ordinary life — things that Underground residents consider mundane can be completely new to her.
Her character therefore seems to revolve around learning what it actually means to be a person rather than someone’s possession.
Powers and abilities
This is the area where I want to distinguish canon from speculation.
As of the three publicly available WEBTOON chapters, I couldn’t find an officially stated list of supernatural powers belonging to Notra. The official material establishes that she is unusual and mysterious, but it doesn’t yet give a definitive power sheet.
So I wouldn’t confidently label her as having telepathy, super-strength, shapeshifting, regeneration, etc. just from the artwork.
What is clearly significant is that there is something unusual about her origin and condition. The collar, her unexplained arrival from above, her lack of understanding of freedom, and the fact that people begin searching for her once she reaches the Underground all imply that Notra is much more important than an ordinary girl who simply got lost. The official synopsis explicitly says that her arrival threatens to expose secrets concerning her past.
In other words, her mystery is currently more firmly established than her powers.
Backstory
Notra’s backstory is intentionally being revealed slowly.
The world of NOCTIS is divided vertically. Humans live in the light above, while hominids survive beneath the surface in an enormous Underground. Notra originates from the world above and somehow ends up falling into the Underground.
She arrives wearing a collar, which is arguably the most important visual clue to her past. More disturbing than the collar itself is the fact that Notra apparently doesn’t understand the concept of being free. This strongly implies that she has been controlled, confined, or otherwise deprived of autonomy for a significant portion of her life.
After arriving below, she is discovered by a group of teenage outcasts. Rather than abandoning her, they take her in. The group themselves survive through theft, cooperation, and loyalty to one another, making them almost a found family. Notra consequently goes from one controlled existence into her first experience of genuine companionship.
But her arrival doesn’t remain a secret.
People in the Underground begin looking for her. That is where the larger mystery begins: why does anyone care so much about one strange girl falling from the surface? Who put the collar around her neck? Why was she sent or allowed to fall into the Underground? What exactly is she? And what does her existence have to do with the divide between the world above and below?
The comic has deliberately not answered all of those questions yet. Since Chapter 3 was only released on July 26, 2026, a lot of Notra’s history is clearly being reserved for later revelations.
Relationships
The Underground outcasts: Notra’s most important relationships so far are with the group of teenage outcasts who take her in. They become her first real connection to friendship and loyalty. Because Notra has apparently never experienced normal freedom, her relationship with them is also part of her learning how ordinary interpersonal relationships work.
The people from her past: This is presently much more mysterious. The collar strongly implies that someone or some organization had control over her before she reached the Underground. Whoever they are, they appear to be connected to the people now searching for her. The exact identities and nature of those relationships haven’t been fully revealed in the publicly available chapters.
The Underground itself: Notra initially functions almost like an outsider dropped into an alien civilization. She has to learn its customs, dangers, and social rules while the people around her simultaneously try to figure out what she is and where she came from.
In short
Notra is essentially a girl who has been raised without freedom and suddenly discovers what freedom, friendship, and ordinary life actually feel like. Her cute feline appearance and playful side contrast sharply with her scars, collar, and mysterious past. She’s not presented as inherently dark; rather, the darkness surrounding her comes from the circumstances that created the person she is now.
And importantly, NOCTIS is still in its opening chapters, so claims about her ultimate powers, the full nature of her species, or the complete explanation of her past would currently be speculation rather than established canon. The official series itself describes her history as an unresolved mystery.
