The Butcher of Tondam

People die in Tondam every day. If nothing gets done, the corpses pile up. Leaving them to rot doesn't help anyone and nobody's cleaning them up for free. Luckily, there exists a place where they can go. Take a truck around the back of the abandoned bakery on Fifth. If you know Norman and Norman knows you, he'll do a full, deep, complete appraisal of your bodies, price them by demand, and take them down to the basement for processing. He's very thorough with his examinations and won't name a price until after checking every inch.

The way that folks die in Tondam doesn't always leave them with much quality meat. The good stuff salvaged goes to millionaire freaks who get their rocks off to just about anything human. Blood is a hot commodity in that circle too. Certain organs are particularly precious. Women are always in demand and sell for a lot more than men do. Once in a blue moon he'll have a woman arrive in good condition. She won't get eaten. All that's needed is a bit of preservation and he can send her off whole. If there's something specific you want from the Butcher, he'll give you a quote and put you on a list. If you want to skip the line, that costs extra. If you need it now, he gives his suppliers a ring. Anything not worth freezing gets put in the grinder to dilute and cheapen animal mince. Not a single scrap leaves his shop without pity - maybe this is close enough to a proper farewell.

The Butcher is a guarded and cautious man. His list of direct contacts is small and he mostly works on his own. He keeps his distance from drama and conflict, which means he doesn't know how to deal with it when it corners him. Outside of work, he doesn't keep permanent contacts with anyone. Cigarettes, Miltown, beer, and prostitution fill the void and drain the wallet. With the latter, Norman pays even if he doesn't go through with it, which is more often than not. Becoming the Butcher has irreversibly changed how Norman sees human bodies. He sees firsthand what happens to people who don't have the connections and position he has. He doesn't do small talk. Or big talk. You'd be lucky to hear anything from him. On the rare occasion words leave his mouth, he speaks pragmatically and evenly.

People have killed for him, enough that he knows he doesn't know how many, but he's never taken a human life with his own hands. He's never been in a position where he's had to. If he were, it's doubtful he'd be able to pull the trigger. Norman doesn't want to see anyone die; what a cowardly hypocrite.

Norman Ketling

Ketling's folks migrated from Scotland with little to their name in chase of the American dream. He's tall, well-built, with curly ginger hair on top of his head and down his forearms. His eyes are warm, gentle, and brown.

Norman's a sensitive man on the inside. He's easily shaken and hurt but doesn't let it show. Being as unadventurous as he is, he doesn't find many places or things he enjoys. When he does, he becomes attached and protective.

Tondam

Tondam is a 50s noir American crime city by the docks. It's very full of crime and corruption. Connections and wealth construct a fragile safety net for those lucky enough to possess them. Seemingly unlimited sketchy back alleys.
