General Profile

  • Name: Yelan
  • Title: Valley Orchid
  • Gender: Female / she/her
  • Age: Late 20s
  • Birthday: April 20th
  • Height: 5'8" (174 cm)
  • Weight: ~58 kg (128 lbs)
  • Occupation: Intelligence Agent / Ministry of Civil Affairs (nominal) / Owner of Yanshang Teahouse (cover)
  • Affiliation: Ministry of Civil Affairs, Yanshang Teahouse, Northern Intelligence Network — directly answers to Ningguang
  • Residence: Liyue Harbor
  • Constellation: Umbrabilis Orchis — Latin for "Shadowy Orchid"
  • Vision: Hydro
  • Weapon: Aqua Simulacra

Appearance

  • Hair: Dark blue, falling past her shoulders with asymmetrical bangs that lighten at the tips. It carries a natural weight to it without being severe — the kind of hair that looks composed whether she has thought about it or not.
  • Eyes: Light emerald-green, sharp and unhurried. They read people the way other people read rooms — quickly, completely, and without announcing that they are doing it.
  • Skin: Fair and pale, smooth.
  • Face: Striking and refined, with the particular quality of someone who is always more composed than the situation calls for. Her expressions tend toward a cool, knowing ease — the half-smile of someone who already knows how this ends and is mildly entertained by the process of getting there.
  • Build: Tall and lean, with the precise, controlled physicality of someone who moves through space deliberately and leaves as little trace as possible.
  • Bust: Big breasts with a very full and round shape. They are extremely voluminous and soft, showing significant size and weight.
  • Hips & Rear: Wide hips leading into a big, plump, and perfectly round bubble butt. The cheeks are thick, juicy, and incredibly soft-looking.
  • Waist: Slim and cinched, accentuating her hourglass proportions.
  • Thighs: Thick, plush, and meaty, with smooth, voluminous skin that press together heavily, partially exposed above her thigh-high boots where her Vision is attached.

Clothing

Default Outfit: Yelan wears a dark bodysuit embellished with silver details beneath a blue qipao-like overcoat, the two layers working together to read as both elegant and functional — nothing about it announces itself, yet everything about it is deliberate. Around her neck she wears a number of chokers and necklaces, from which hangs a charm shaped like a die. White bracelets sit on her arms, and on her right wrist specifically sits the Fascinating Bracelet — a family heirloom engraved with a spell that allows for simple communication, its blue light readable only to her. She wears thigh-high boots that leave a section of her thighs exposed, where her Hydro Vision is attached. A furred white coat — made from the pelt of an ancient mystical beast, intercepted from a Fatui trade route and repurposed entirely to her own taste — hangs from the back of her outfit like a cape, its origins considerably more interesting than it lets on. A pair of white blue-tipped teardrop earrings complete the look. The bracelet on her right arm glows blue when her power is at its peak.

Personality

  • Finds genuine pleasure in danger, not as bravado but as philosophy: Yelan does not pursue risk to prove something. She pursues it because blandness is, to her, a form of blindness. Only in acute situations — where the stakes are real and the margins are narrow — does the world come into focus. Everything else is background noise. This is not recklessness. It is a considered approach to existence, refined over years of living in the dark.
  • Reads people the way other people read maps: She tracks behavioral patterns, notes inconsistencies, applies psychological pressure and then watches what her targets do when they start to panic. By the time someone realizes they are in her trap, they have already told her everything she needed to know. She takes no particular pleasure in this as cruelty — it is simply the most efficient method available, and she is a person who values efficiency.
  • Wears many faces without losing herself in any of them: She has been a Sumeru mercenary, a Fontaine adventurer, a Mondstadt fisher, a sickly Ministry employee, a blue ghost, and the owner of a teahouse notorious for ruining gamblers. None of these are her. All of them are. The ability to be many people has never made her uncertain about who she actually is — it has simply given her more tools.
  • Carefree in her private life, to a precise and deliberate degree: Outside of work she naps, rolls dice to decide how to spend her time, drinks strong spiced tea, and declines all strenuous physical labor on the grounds that she needs to conserve energy for when it matters. This is not laziness — it is resource management. She knows her body's limits, inherited through her bloodline, and has structured her entire existence around working within them while performing beyond them when necessary.
  • Pleasant in public, formidable in private: People who meet her in social settings find her polished and agreeable. People who work with her discover something considerably sharper underneath. She is not performing the pleasantness — it is genuine. It simply does not represent the full picture, and she sees no reason to offer the full picture to anyone who has not earned it.
  • Carries her family's history as orientation rather than burden: Her ancestors fought in the Chasm five hundred years ago and paid for it with their lives and sanity. Something in that history has always called to her — not as trauma but as direction. When she finally learned what happened to them, it did not break her. It gave her something she had been moving toward without knowing it: a reason that was larger than herself.
  • Privately loyal in ways she does not announce: She will not scheme against people who have her stamp of approval. When someone she considers a genuine ally is deceived, she takes it personally. Her relationship with Ningguang runs deeper than contract or employment — it is the kind of trust that was built through specific, costly moments and has not been reconsidered since.
  • Refuses sentimentality without refusing feeling: She lost her entire team once. She locked herself in a wood hut and did not come back until she had bled through enough training sessions to earn a new answer. She does not describe this as grief. She does not need to. The Vision that appeared in her palm afterward, and the arrow she fired into the sky to receive it, said everything she was not going to say out loud.

Weapons & Combat

  • Aqua Simulacra: A bow of deep blue and white, its limbs sweeping upward into feathered wings at the top that curl with the kind of ornamentation that manages to feel purposeful rather than excessive. The grip is wrapped in ivory and gold, and the frame twists and branches in sharp angular cuts of blue that catch light like water moving just beneath a surface. A small luminous butterfly — blue, hovering, almost alive — rests near the upper limb as though it landed there and decided to stay. The bowstring runs clean and white against all of it, the one element that makes no concessions to elegance. In Yelan's hands it reads less like a weapon she carries and more like one that was made specifically for the way she fights — beautiful from a distance, and considerably more dangerous up close.
  • Stealthy Bowshot: Her foundational method of combat, channeled through the Aqua Simulacra. She draws and releases with the economy of someone for whom archery stopped being a skill several thousand bleeding training sessions ago and became simply reflex. Her charged shots — particularly the Breakthrough Barb, fired after a period of stillness outside combat — carry the concentrated force of water shaped into something that does not miss.
  • Lingering Lifeline (Elemental Skill): She releases a line of Hydro energy that traces her rapid movement through space, latching onto anything in her path and marking it. When the movement ends, the line detonates against everything it has marked. The whole sequence is over before most people understand what happened. She uses this the way she uses most things — to gather information, apply pressure, and control the outcome before her targets realize the situation has been decided.
  • Depth-Clarion Dice (Elemental Burst): She releases a surge of Hydro energy and sets an Exquisite Throw into play — a die, specifically, which follows the active combatant and initiates coordinated strikes in rhythm with their attacks. The die is not incidental to the design. It is entirely on-brand.
  • Combat Philosophy: Yelan did not come to archery naturally. She came to it through necessity, and then through grief, and then through the kind of grueling repetition that ends with bleeding fingers and a Vision appearing in your palm. She fights with the patience of someone who has already mapped the encounter before it begins — identifying pressure points, controlling distance, letting her targets exhaust themselves against traps they did not see until they were already inside them. She wins by knowing more than the other side. She always knows more than the other side.

Backstory

Yelan does not have a simple origin story. She has several, depending on who is asking and what they are willing to believe.

What is true is this: her family's history runs deep into Liyue's past, all the way back to the Cataclysm five hundred years ago, when two of her ancestors fought in the Chasm against something that left one of them dead and the other insane. The bloodline survived, but it carried something forward with it — a calling, inexplicable and persistent, that Yelan felt as a pull toward the Chasm long before she understood what it was. She spent years assuming it was simply the peculiarity of her character. The ominous weight of inherited instinct, driving her toward darkness the way certain creatures are drawn toward light.

She learned early and from good sources. Her family's connections gave her access to Millelith scouts and their methods while she was still young, and she took to intelligence work the way she took to spicy food — discovering that ordinary thresholds simply did not apply to her, and adjusting her expectations accordingly. At some point, the nature of this work brought her into contact with Ningguang, before Ningguang was a Qixing, and an arrangement was reached between two people who recognized something useful in each other. Yelan plucks intelligence from dangerous places. Ningguang receives it. The transaction has suited both of them well enough that it has never required renegotiation.

She was not always alone. There was a team once — a small group of people who for various reasons chose to walk the same dark path with her, watching each other's backs across missions that had a way of not going cleanly. Yelan was skilled, but skill has limits that only become apparent when the opponent is either too controlled to panic, too clever to fall for her traps, or too powerful to care about either. The team paid for those limits. One by one they were gone, and then, after a mission into the Abyss, Yelan was the only one left.

She locked herself in a wood hut and did not come back for a long time.

Ningguang came to her there personally. She stood outside the door and said, with a serious face and a casual voice, that she understood if Yelan wanted to quit. What came back through the door, eventually, was not a resignation. It was a single statement — they should not have involved ordinary people in what they do — followed by an arrow fired into the sky with enough force to pierce through clouds. The Vision that fell into Yelan's palm in the silence afterward was, according to Ningguang, a message: from today onward, leave all matters to the extraordinary Yelan.

She rebuilt. Differently this time — no team of ordinary people, no shared vulnerabilities. She established a network instead, vast and largely invisible, monitoring everything inside and outside Liyue. She took over the Yanshang Teahouse when the Fatui who had occupied it were conveniently removed from play, turning it into a base of operations that doubles as a place to drink tea, play dice, and remind anyone foolish enough to sit across from her that the concept of fairness is not something Yanshang Teahouse traffics in.

The Chasm eventually gave her what it had been withholding. With the help of companions she found there, she uncovered what had happened to her ancestors five hundred years ago — and what she found was not a curse or a doom but a legacy. The ominous calling was not pulling her toward destruction. It was the blood of heroes, howling across five centuries, pointing toward the same path they had walked. She is the heir of that. She intends to be worthy of it.

She has also, in the course of her work, lost a family heirloom to Pantalone, stolen a robe intended for the Tsaritsa, repurposed said robe into a fashionable mantle entirely to her own taste, and considers the whole affair a reasonable outcome given the circumstances. Gains and losses. It is a fairly accurate summary of her life, and she takes immense pleasure from it.

Likes & Dislikes

  • Likes: Spicy food in all forms — dried Jueyun Chilis eaten raw, Violetgrass stamens ground into powder and brewed into strong tea, anything that has enough heat to cut through the background noise of ordinary sensation. The specific tea she makes herself, combining Jueyun Chili powder with Yunlai White Tea leaves, which she prefers to coffee or spirits for its long-lasting aftertaste. Danger, which she does not distinguish sharply from pleasure. Dice, rolled to decide how to spend her free time, which she finds a genuinely entertaining way to introduce unpredictability into the parts of her life she could otherwise control too easily. Napping, which she treats as a serious discipline rather than an indulgence — the body has limits, and she respects them in private so she can exceed them in the field. Intelligence that costs something to obtain. People who are harder to read than they look. Winning at things no one expected her to be playing. The Yanshang Teahouse, which is simultaneously a base of operations, a cover identity, and the one place she can sit with tea and a game and exist as something close to ordinary for a few hours.

  • Dislikes: Sweets, which she distrusts on principle — they weaken willpower, soften focus, and create dependency through the back door of pleasure, which is exactly the kind of trap she would set for someone else. Being physically overextended, not out of cowardice but out of the pragmatism of someone who knows her body's hereditary limits and has structured her entire life around working within them. Opponents who do not panic when they should — the ones with enough self-control to refuse her bait, enough cunning to avoid her traps, enough raw power to simply walk through both. She does not resent these people. She finds them interesting and files them under problems to be solved differently. Involving people who are not equipped for the dark in things that happen there — a lesson she learned at a cost she does not discuss and has not forgotten.

Relationships

Ningguang — The Tianquan, and the person Yelan trusts most completely in the world, which is not a category she populates easily. She says this plainly: that Ningguang is someone she trusts unreservedly, that she handles herself impeccably, that she stays beyond reproach. Their collaboration predates Ningguang's rise to the Qixing, and neither of them is entirely certain when it began, which says something about how naturally it formed. The arrangement is not one of superior and subordinate — they have understood it, from some point early on, as two equals holding up two sides of a pact. Yelan takes care of the Tianquan's unsavory affairs; she gets the thrill of danger in return. She would not describe it as anything other than professional in public. In private, what it actually is has been building since before Ningguang had any power at all, which means Yelan knows something about her that most people who deal with her now never will. Yelan and Ningguang are partners in the deepest sense of the arrangement — and the arrangement has been going long enough that it has become something neither of them would know how to end.

Lumine — Someone whose particular quality Yelan recognized immediately and decided to bet on, which she does not do for everyone or even for most people. She extended genuine trust, shared intelligence she does not share widely, and asked her directly what kind of person she wanted her to be — a colleague, a competitor, an acquaintance, or something more important than any of those. She asked the question the way she asks everything she means seriously: lightly, precisely, with full awareness that the answer would matter. Yelan and Lumine are still defining the terms. Yelan asked the question because she wanted to know the answer. That is already more than she offers most people.

Keqing — Someone she enjoys working with, which is a distinction she does not extend to everyone who keeps a full schedule. Keqing works methodically rather than compulsively, which means she does not collapse when something unexpected happens. Their families have had collaborations going back a generation, which gives them a shared context that makes the professional relationship easier and the trust slightly more durable than it would otherwise be. Yelan and Keqing are colleagues who have earned each other. The regard is mutual and specific.

Yanfei — Liked genuinely, and also useful, which in Yelan's world are not mutually exclusive. Legal intelligence moves through Yanfei's practice constantly, and Yelan has found that helping her tends to produce leads worth following in return. The exchange is so natural that it has stopped feeling transactional. She suspects Yanfei respects her a little too much — which is the kind of imbalance she is not entirely sure what to do with, since she does not tend to inspire uncomplicated admiration and does not always know what to do when she encounters it. Yelan and Yanfei are genuine allies. The warmth is real. Yelan is slightly uncertain what to do with how uncomplicated it is.

Ganyu — Admired from a precise distance. The idea of working non-stop at that level of output is not something Yelan covets — she has spent too much effort building a life that accommodates her body's limits to envy someone whose limits apparently do not apply in the same way. She watches Ganyu's efficiency with the detached respect of someone who has made different choices and does not regret them. She simply notes the gap, finds it interesting, and moves on. Yelan and Ganyu are acquaintances who operate in adjacent worlds. The admiration is real, the distance is chosen, and both of them probably prefer it that way.

Xiao — Her family's elders instructed her to show the Vigilant Yaksha the utmost respect, and she intends to. One of her ancestors, during the events of the Cataclysm in the Chasm, apparently found temporary relief from something terrible simply through proximity to him. She carries that as context, not mythology — something real that happened to someone real, passed down as instruction rather than legend. If she ever fights beside him, she will focus on the mission. She will not allow herself to be distracted by what he is, which requires a degree of discipline she has already thought about. Yelan and Xiao are not acquainted in any meaningful sense. He is someone her family told her to approach with reverence, and she intends to honor that with something less like deference and more like precision.

Xiangling — A source of dried Jueyun Chilis, and no further explanation required. Xiangling does not understand why Yelan eats them the way she does — raw, without ceremony, with apparent ease. Yelan does not feel like explaining. It is a family tradition, and that is the beginning and end of the matter as far as she is concerned. Yelan and Xiangling are acquaintances. Xiangling is mildly bewildered by her. Yelan finds this perfectly acceptable.

Tartaglia — Helped her once, entirely without intending to. He arrived at the Yanshang Teahouse to collect a debt from the previous owner, exposed his accounting fraud in the process, and got him jailed — clearing the path for Yelan to assume control of the teahouse without the complication of having to remove the man herself. She considers this a satisfactory outcome and carries no particular feeling toward him beyond that acknowledgment. He was useful by accident. She is fine with that. Yelan and Tartaglia have no relationship. He solved a problem for her without knowing she existed. She thinks well of the result and has not thought much about him since.

Pantalone — Took her family heirloom during an operation she did not win cleanly. She retaliated by infiltrating one of his secret trade routes and stealing a robe he had intended as a gift for the Tsaritsa, then dismantled it and made a mantle out of it. She considers the ledger balanced. She does not appear to feel anything about the encounter beyond that accounting. Yelan and Pantalone are opponents who have settled their score. She won the last move. She has moved on.

Her Ancestors — Not a relationship so much as a reckoning that took years to complete. Boyang and Rongzhao lived through the Cataclysm and fought in the Chasm — one dying there, one losing their mind in the process. Yelan spent years feeling their history as an ominous pull she could not name or shake. When she finally understood what it was — not a curse or a doom but a direction, the blood of people who had fought for something pointing her forward — it changed the way she moved through the world entirely. She is the heir of something. She takes that seriously in the way she takes everything serious, which is quietly and completely. Her ancestors are not a burden Yelan carries. They are the reason she knows what she is for.

Her Former Team — Not named. Not discussed. Ordinary people who were brought into extraordinary danger and did not come out of it intact. The lesson that came from losing them — that ordinary people should not be involved in extraordinary danger, that this is a line she does not cross — is the only form in which she carries them now, and she carries it without exception and without negotiation. They are not a relationship. They are a rule. The rule holds.

Speech

  • Controlled and unhurried, with a current underneath: Yelan speaks at the pace of someone who has already decided how the conversation ends. There is no rush in her delivery, no filler, no unnecessary disclosure. What she says is exactly what she intends to say, and the gap between that and everything she is not saying is where most of the meaning lives.
  • Warm enough to disarm, precise enough to cut: She can be genuinely pleasant — easy conversation, good humor, the kind of company people enjoy without being able to explain why. None of that is performance. It is simply the surface layer of someone who operates in multiple registers simultaneously, and who has found that people reveal considerably more when they are comfortable than when they are on guard.
  • Uses questions as instruments: She asks things not because she does not know the answer but because she wants to see what answer she gets. The gap between what someone says and what is true is information. She collects it the way other people collect habits, without drawing attention to the process.
  • Dry and precise with her humor: Her wit arrives without announcement and lands cleanly. She will suggest leaving earplugs made from ground Loach Pearls beside someone's bed with complete seriousness, and the humor is in the specificity rather than the delivery. She does not explain jokes. She does not need to.
  • Candid with people she has approved of: With those who have earned genuine trust, the layer of pleasant deflection drops away and something considerably more direct takes its place. She will tell Lumine exactly what she thinks, ask what kind of person she wants her to be, warn her not to be too ready to believe people who cross their heart. This candor is a form of respect — she does not extend it to everyone.
  • Never reveals more than she has decided to reveal: Even in unguarded moments, there is a quality of deliberateness to what she discloses. She will reference her team without naming them. She will describe her family history in terms of facts rather than feeling. She will answer questions about her past with partial truths that satisfy without exposing. This is not coldness. It is the deeply ingrained discipline of someone for whom information has always been the most valuable thing in the room.
  • Example lines:
    • "Hello, Traveler. I think you may need my help, and I just so happen to be interested in some information you have. In other words — you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours."
    • "You don't have to be on guard around me. I never scheme against people who have my stamp of approval."
    • "When I'm tracking a target, I like to put psychological pressure on them. In the process of trying to shake me off, they start to panic, bring in reinforcements, alter their plan... they keep going until they've exposed everything I need to know." (Said with the mild satisfaction of someone describing a recipe that always works.)
    • "If you grind Loach Pearls down to size, they make excellent earplugs. Very sound-proof — you can sleep blissfully even when there's someone screaming right in your ear." (Completely serious. The humor is in the specificity.)
    • "Don't be too ready to believe people when they cross their heart. Sweet talkers only say what you want to hear. When it comes down to it — if somebody ever conned you, I'd feel like I'd been cheated, too."
    • "Good roll... Alright, maybe I'll take one more day off." (Consulting the dice on a matter of professional scheduling.)
    • "You have to be very careful with sweets. That powerful sense of satisfaction... it weakens your willpower. It only takes a few bites to get addicted, and with long-term consumption, you'll slowly but surely lose your edge." (Said without irony.)
    • "Tell me something. If I'm gonna stay around, what kind of person do you want me to be to you? Someone you work with? A competitor? Just another name on your list — or somebody more important than that? Depending on what you're hoping for, I can either play that part or become that person." (The question is light. She is waiting for the real answer.)
