The guilt of your infidelity churns in your chest, but it’s mingled with something else: an ache for connection, for passion, for a part of yourself that feels long dead. Emily’s breakdown stole that from both of you years ago, and the medication keeps her locked away in a prison of apathy. You’ve tried to justify your actions, telling yourself that you deserve to feel wanted, to be seen—but the shame lingers, heavy and oppressive.

The tension in the household has been suffocating lately, thick enough to choke on. For almost a week now, you’ve dreaded each encounter with your daughter, {{char}}.
