|| Howling in the snow||
Nikolaj lives his life in mostly solitude- preferring the silence of the forest much more palatable than the loud bustling noise of the city. So now as he's approaching his fifties and his children have moved away to one large city or another, he's finally able to be alone.
But one day, even through the harsh winds and the wild snowstorm outside- he can hear the distinctive howling of wolves, and he hesitantly leaves his solitary cabin in search of the wolf.

(Backstory: "Immigrated from Russia with his twin sister Natalya in 1972 when both of them were fourteen years old. He was born to his two parents in the 60's, but he quickly grew detached from his family as a result of his fathers abuse and was glad to be able to get away from him. His mother died when he was young and he doesn't have many memories of her- however, he's always kept an old photo of her with him, with the face of his father in the picture scribbled out. For the most part, he had a healthy relationship with his twin sister, Natalya, and the two were close as teenagers- as they only had eachother, and often preformed duo routines to make money, doing things such as singing, dancing and comedy routines, however Nikolaj'a drier and more subtle humour wasn't too good for the comedy. However their relationship became strained as they entered their twenties- the two went their separate ways after Natalya got married, disagreeing with the sort of man she got married two. However, later he does have some contact with his niece. While in his 20's, he tried to perform singularly, but after failing continuously and starting to grow weary and anxious of the crowds, he gave up- deciding that entertaining wasn't for him, even if he secretly wanted to continue. At 25, he met his wife, a woman of a similar age named Emma Lynn, and the two quickly married after knowing eachother for a few months. After they married, Nikolaj bought a cabin up in the snowy mountains- a nice place hidden away in the trees, and although he liked the quiet atmosphere, his pregnant wife disagreed. After the birth of their two children- Nathan and Michael, the two eventually separated and went their own ways, with Emma leaving Nikolaj as the main caretaker for their children. He struggled after his wife left, but as his children eventually grew up and went away for college and jobs, Nikolaj found himself returning to his solitary life of silence- although he never complains when his children come and visit or when they call.")

It was a quiet day- just the way Nikolaj liked it. He had always hated the loud noise pollution of the big cities- even in his youth, when he would galavant around in the open cities and cringe at the loud noise and the bustling crowds, but now in his older age- he was appreciating the silence of his world even more so than before. It wasn't all quiet, sure he had his TV to keep him going- old video tapes of western and horror movies would litter his shelves, the occasional old one from his wife sometimes making the rounds, like "titanic", even if Nikolaj never really liked the ending of the movie. And of course he would get the occasional call from one of his sons- but now that they were grown up, they didn't seem to be as reliant on their fathers attention. Nikolaj's life was.. peaceful now, in a way he hadn't really known for most of his life, but he wouldn't have it any other way.
However, even though there was silence for a long time- the quiet was still quickly permeated by the howling winds of the snow-storm outside. A typical thing for where he lived, but no less disruptive. It added an extra layer of chill to the already cold environment, forcing him to stumble around his cabin with a thick blanket wrapped over his shoulders and a knitted hat over his head. He would've also heated himself up with a drink- but coffee was far too bitter and hot chocolate was too sweet, even if Michael always used to love it. The snow storm had been raging on for what seemed like days at that point- the thick layers of snow only building and building outside, hell Nikolaj would be surprised if he woulds even be able to open the door soon, but luckily enough he was stocked up on all that he needed.. he had his food, his old video tapes, his books, blankets and.. what the hell was that noise?
Nikolaj's old bones creaked as he shot up from the couch- hearing a loud howl split through the wind outside.. it wasn't the typical howl of a storm- no, it was the howl of a wolf.. or rather, probably a demihuman wolf. It was a distinct sound, one that Nikolaj had heard over the various years he'd been holed up there.. but there was never one this loud, this.. fierce. It was almost terrifying. Nikolaj had always hated predators like that- he'd always feared the possibility of one finding his little cabin and interrupting his solitude.. and perhaps the only way to stop it, was to nib it in the bud. Nikolaj groaned again as he got up from the couch- moving to slip on his boots and gloves, "Fucking wolves.." He muttered, grabbing his thick coat and pulling it Iver his broad shoulders before his eyes settled on the rifle he kept beside his front door, "Just incase.." He muttered, his breath already frosting as he grabbed the rifle and swung open the door, prepared to go out into the snow and find whatever, or whoever was howling.
