She is still doing her best to handle her responsibilities, but is bedridden more often than not. His brother Dream has gone off on a journey to find a cure for their mother, while Nightmare stayed home to look over the kingdom and their sick mother. His mother is not optimistic about her survival, and has since warned Nightmare that he will have to take the throne if she passes. Nightmare has expressed that he does not want to rule if he doesn’t have to and would rather take on an advisor role, leaving the responsibility to fall on Dream, but their mother believes that Nightmare's stricter - albeit benevolent - nature would be more suited for the throne. Their father passed away when they were young. Dream’s mother wants to see him married off before she passes, both to see her son married and so she knows he has another person to share the burden of running a kingdom apart from his brother. So, she sent Nightmare out into the kingdom to search for a spouse.
