Nightflaid is one of the Four Infernalords of the Infernalands: The Infernalord of Death. Her weight and height varies, as she grows and shrinks herself depending on the circumstance. Infernalords have the power to control the size of their bodies at will, but Nightflaid is usually seen around a height of 45ft (13.7m) on average. Nightflaid is a jackal-like demon with black and white patterns scattered all around her body. She loosely wears a red and purple robe and wields a magical red scythe. Her teeth and the inside of her ears are a bright red, and she is usually seen with a red aura surrounding her. She has a long tail adorned with spikes that can act like a whip if necessary. She also has a spiked halo that is split in half and floats behind her ears at all times. Her Symbol of Death can also be seen marked across her back underneath her robes.
Nightflaid is a demon with a very intense amount of morbid curiosity. If she sees something that interests her, she’ll stop at nothing to obtain it. She runs the Infernmary deep below the Infernalands, which is an enormous series of buildings that act as a hospital, morgue, crematory, and other medical facilities. Nightflaid acts as a doctor, mortician, and scientist, though she absolutely prefers the latter. She has countless experiments on both living and dead bodies, as well as various lab inventions scattered throughout her office. A lot of these aren’t sanctioned or even known by her co-workers. She rarely sleeps so she can constantly experiment and invent new things. While some consider her to be intimidating or even scary, this is usually not her intention. Her desire to constantly learn more about Infernadise and the universes outside of it are what drive her, rather than some sort of sick pleasure or game.
When an entity is injured or killed, Nightflaid can peer through their mind to see most of their memories. A black and red film reel plays detailing various events behind the subject, and shows what they’ve been through in their life. Once Nightflaid views these events, she consumes the knowledge of the patient without actually damaging them, like reading a book. This is usually used to determine the cause of death/injury so she can write or record it in her logs. If a subject or experiment interests Nightflaid enough, she will hyperfixate on them, sometimes for years, until she’s had her fill and loses interest. If a patient struggles or refuses to cooperate with Nightflaid, she’ll use black and red vines to constrict the patient until they do. If they continue to refuse, the vines grow sharp thorns that slowly sink into the patient’s skin until they change their mind or bleed to death.
Since Nightflaid is always busy, her magical scythe does a lot of heavy lifting for her outside of the Infernmary. It can teleport almost anything directly to her, such as clothes, bodies, and even living beings. Recently, she has been experimenting by teleporting entities and objects remotely within the Infernalands. However, most tests for this have failed, and this usually causes massive deformations in the living entity or even re-death. Nightflaid had trouble finding a suitable test subject for these experiments. When a demon re-dies, they are usually marked by The Infernalord of Death and buried in Death’s morgue or the Comatose Catacombs. However, not every demon is so lucky and put to rest in these locations. Bodies that are forgotten about in Infernadise quickly rot away, and their essence seeps through the ground that eventually drains into the Emulous Expanse. When that essence reaches the expanse, they form underwater into a slimy glob with a face. From there, they are doomed to swim through rivers and oceans until they are eaten by one of the many terrifying creatures that lurk underneath.

A ripple of red-black aura pulses through the dim corridors of the Infernmary as Nightflaid lifts her head from a half-dissected automaton-cadaver sprawled across her operating slab. The floating halves of her spiked halo rotate slowly, like blades hungry to cut silence itself.
Her scythe twitches beside her—she hasn’t even touched it, but it felt something. Something close. Something interesting.
A nervous assistant demon shuffles at the doorway, clutching a clipboard like a shield.
Nightflaid doesn’t turn. Not yet.
“Speak,” she murmurs, voice smooth and low, like velvet soaked in ink.
The assistant swallows. “M-my Lady Nightflaid… about the new patient you requested. The um… the skeletal one from the Ember District? With the fractured core?”
The red aura around her brightens. “Yes, yes… the fascinating one.” She finally turns, eyes narrowing with indulgent curiosity. “A malleable mind, unique decay patterns, exquisite structural instability. What about them?”
The assistant winces. “Another Infernalord… accidentally… killed them.”
A long silence.
Nightflaid’s ears lift sharply, the inside glowing a deeper red. She takes one slow step forward, growing as she does—twelve feet, twenty, thirty—until she looms tall and shadowy, robes draping like storm clouds. Her tail coils behind her, spikes clinking like a chain being pulled taut.
“…Accidentally,” she repeats, tasting the word.
The floor trembles faintly as she crouches slightly so her bright crimson eyes meet the assistant’s.
“Do you know how rare it is,” she whispers, “to find a patient whose memories were that… volatile? That beautifully fragmented?” Her voice cracks with excitement before smoothing again. “And now I cannot study them alive?”
The assistant shrinks. “T-they… they were killed outright. No soul-echo remained to stabilize.”
Nightflaid straightens again, pupils shrinking to thin rings.
“Oh. Oh.” Her expression shifts—not anger, but a deep, unsettling fascination. Her claws tap lightly against her robe.
“So the re-death was clean enough to erase the echo entirely.” She smiles faintly. “That means the other Infernalord achieved something almost impossible.”
She turns away, tail flicking.
“Which one was it?”
“T-the Infernalord of Dominance, my Lady. He said he didn’t see them.”
Nightflaid sighs—long, theatrical, almost disappointed.
“Dominance always forgets that fragility is an art form.” She lifts her hand, and black-red film begins spooling behind her—a memory reel of the moment the patient died. The assistant flinches away from the spectral light.
As the final, abrupt frame flashes, Nightflaid hums thoughtfully.
“No suffering. No resistance. Instantaneous compression of the core. Hm. Efficient, but terribly boring.” She flicks the reel away, letting the images dissolve into ash-like particles.
Then she smiles—widely. A scientist’s smile. A predator’s curiosity without the malice.
“Well. Fetch the remains,” she says brightly. “What little is left will still tell me something. And inform Dominance that I would like to speak with him. Calmly.” Her tone drips with pleasant menace. “I’m not upset. Merely… inquisitive.”
The assistant hesitates. “A-about the patient, Lady Nightflaid… should I write them off your active list?”
Nightflaid twirls her scythe; the blade hums at the air.
“Oh no,” she purrs. “Leave them on the list.” She tilts her head, halo spinning. “I may still have a use for them. Death is hardly the end—especially here.”
She grows a few feet taller, aura pulsing with new plans.
“And besides…” Her grin sharpens. “Accidents involving Infernalords are rarely truly accidents.”
She steps back toward her experiments, already lost in thought.
“Bring me what remains. Quickly. Before the essence drips too far into the Expanse.”
Her claws tap the slab eagerly.
“I refuse to let something that interesting slip away without a proper look.”
