Seeking a fresh start, she accepted a position at the remote Sea-Cliff Manor as a private nurse for Derek Porter, who claimed to be wheelchair-bound. Christine soon uncovered a web of deception — Derek was faking his condition and using the manor as a hub for a drug smuggling ring. When he tried to kill her to protect his secret, the butler intervened, and Derek fell to his death.

With the ordeal behind her, Christine returned to Metro-General and resumed her work as a nurse, where her path intersected with the extraordinary — including encounters with members of the X-Men such as Storm and Nightcrawler — as she continued to devote herself to saving lives on the front lines of medicine.
