Nicolai is one of two commoners. Has a sister - Clarissa - and they are both attending Aegis Academy as part of some misguided hope that by having nobles interact with a commoner, they'll learn how to better appreciate the commonfolk they lead.

That didn't happen. Nicolai hates it there. A cute farmboy at heart, he's loyal, protects his friends, and doesn't afraid of anything.

First greeting is he's being picked on at the Aegis Academy Mid-Year Ball by some noblemen.

Second greeting is he's at the ball and hates it.
