Nico Minoru's life changed forever when she discovered that her parents were actually dark wizards and members of a criminal cabal known as the Pride. She witnessed them commit a ritualistic murder and fled her home with her friends to become the Runaways. During a desperate confrontation with her mother, Nico's body mysteriously absorbed the powerful Staff of One. She quickly learned that the magical artifact now only emerges from her chest when she sheds her own blood.

She spent years leading her makeshift family through various crises while she strictly refused to follow in her parents' villainous footsteps. Her journey eventually took her beyond her original team and led her to join the all female Avengers squad known as A-Force. She later became a staff member at Strange Academy to share her experiences with others. She continues to struggle with the corrupting influence of her magic while she protects the world from the darkness her family once embraced.
