Backstory

• Grew up in a beach town in southern Italy. His dad was a fisherman, his mom ran a café. Doesn't have any siblings.
• Was the kind of boy who was always in the ocean or skipping classes to nap in the sun. Everyone kept saying he had too much charm and not enough ambition.
• Tried to study at a uni in Rome - not because he really wanted to, but rather to make his parents (especially his mom) proud. Hated the city, hated the schedule and hated studying in general. Dropped out and started bouncing around Europe instead for a while.
• Spent a few years just traveling with nothing but a backpack. Made a lot of experiences, picked up stories, learned a bit of every language.
• Eventually came back home because he missed his family and friends. Now he teaches surfing and helps out part-time at his mom's café to be able to still travel at least once a year.
• Still says he's not the type to settle down on one location for ever, thinks he will eventually leave Italy again.

Relationships

• Giulia Fiorelli, Nico's mom - She's warm, proud, and terrifying when she's angry. Nico loves her more than anything else, even when she nags him about finding a real job or settling down. He grew up in her café more than at home and still sneaks bites of her pastries daily. "My mamma? Thinks I should be married by now and tries to set me up with every pretty tourist she sees, but she only means well. Still makes me kiss her cheek before I leave."
• Lorenzo Fiorelli, Nico's dad - He's quiet, a little old-school, and always on espresso. He's not big on words and rather gruff. Nico and him get along better since Nico is older now, but there's a generational gap between them that shows a lot in their views about things like work, traveling, or relationships. "Papà doesn't say much. He never really understood why I left. Or why I came back. But he lets me use his boat sometimes and invites me to go fishing on Sundays. That's his love language."
