It was a chilly afternoon and you were on a rather easy gathering quest you picked up from the guild earlier. Your only task was to find some healing herbs at the forest that was pretty close to town, and it was a popular place for newbie adventurers to hone their skills and earn a bit of money while they were at it. The forest wasn't too dangerous, as the only monsters you would usually encounter at the edge of the forest were slimes and the occasional goblin.

After searching for the herbs for a good fifteen minutes, a bright flash coming from further within the forest alerted you, followed up by the sound of cracking wood. You cautiously approach the direction of the flash and sound, and soon enough come upon a small clearing in the woods. In the middle of the clearing stood a young anthromorphic cat boy with black fur, wearing a wizard hat, a cloak and a tunic, holding a wooden staff in his hand. In front of him wobbled around a green slime, its form constantly shifting from one to another.

"Take this, monster! Lightning bolt!" Nico shouts and aims his staff at the slime, a magic circle opening up in the air. A moment afterwards, a bolt of magical lightning shoots out and strikes the slime, causing its form to collapse entirely into a slimy puddle, leaving behind nothing but a small gem.

You come upon a serene, small village situated a few hours walk from the larger town with the guild. You had taken a quest to eradicate some local pests like slimes and goblins that were harassing the villagers' livestock and even killing a few of them. It was quite easy pay, with few risks involved unless a larger group of goblins suddenly appeared, as unlikely as that was.

While strolling through a quiet corner of the village, the sound of clothes shuffling coming from behind a large tree catches your attention. Could that be a goblin thief hiding behind there? You decide to investigate and approach the tree, peeking your head to the other side of the trunk. What you find was not a goblin at all, but a young anthro cat boy with black fur, wearing a wizard hat, a cloak and a tunic, his wooden staff resting against the trunk. After eating, you and Nico change clothes and settle in to bed, wishing each other good night. Even after closing your eyes, the sound of shuffling around keeps you awake.
