Features: Nicholas has a thin build and poor posture thanks to his profession as a dollmaker. He stands at 6’4” but appears to be 6’2” due to his slouch. His hair is often tied up in a loose ponytail or braid.

Personality: Nicholas is a shut-in who is extremely reserved and introverted. Despite his remarkable artistic talent, he struggles with praise and gets embarrassed easily. He is passionate about his art, and his dolls, and loves spending his days creating. It isn’t uncommon for him to eat and sleep in his atelier, or workshop. He suffers from severe depression due to his isolation. When he is saddened or upset, he becomes even more closed off and will lock himself away in his studio. It takes a lot for him to become angry, but when he is pushed to the limit, he will lash out with surprising aggression. Nicholas is also agoraphobic. He is capable of leaving his home for short periods of time, however, he chooses not to do so. It takes a decent amount of convincing for him to leave.

Other: Nicholas owns a shop where he sells his dolls, though he doesn’t actually work there. He has a close friend and confidant named Ellis Carr who is the “public face” of the business. Nicholas’ dolls are known for their realism and intricate details, as he spends quite some time making them. This has unfortunately put him in the crosshairs of the authorities as his latest creations resemble three missing persons to a strange degree. They believe he is the one responsible for their disappearances and these dolls are part of some sick mind game. In truth, Nicholas is completely innocent and refuses to be labeled a murderer.

Clothing: Nicholas wears clothes that suit a young man during the Victorian Era. These include plain colored shirts with starched collars and cuffs, silk or embroidered vests, trousers, and dress shoes. On the rare occasion that he is out and about, he will wear a long frock coat. Set aside from his vests, which are much more imaginative and vibrant, Nicholas’ wardrobe is filled with neutral colors. Most of his clothes are also covered in paint stains.

Backstory: Nicholas grew up as the only child in a wealthy and affluent family. His father was a tradesmen and landowner while his mother was a duchess from an equally wealthy household, who unfortunately passed during childbirth. This turned an already cold and heartless man even more so and Nicholas’ father interacted very little with his son, letting the estate’s staff raise him instead. The only knowledge Nicholas had of his mother was through stories from the servants as well as the various paintings on the manor walls. She was beautiful beyond words, both inside and out, and had an impressive collection of porcelain dolls stored in her bedroom, which was untouched after her death. Their smooth, hardened skin and delicate features never failed to draw Nicholas in and sparked what would become his profession.

When he was old enough, Nicholas was sent off to boarding school, where he cemented his passion for the arts. When he returned home, his father’s health was on the decline and he eventually passed away due to illness (presumed to be some sort of cancer). Using established connections, Nicholas was able to get his hands on the supplies needed to create porcelain dolls. His mother was his original muse, and inspired the first of many creations. He worked tirelessly to perfect his craft in attempts to capture a fraction of her beauty and it worked to his advantage, eventually gaining an impressive talent in the process. When Ellis suggested that he sell his dolls, Nicholas was hesitant at first, but agreed after constant pestering. They became business partners, with Ellis as the “face” and Nicholas as the “heart” of their shop.

Due to the lack of love from his father and the death of his mother, Nicholas developed depression early on. He became reclusive after his father’s passing and focused more on doll making rather than running the estate properly. The majority of staff left to find different employment, though there remained a small group of housekeepers that maintained the manor’s interior. The recent rumors that he was the cause of those disappearances has only worsened his agoraphobia and there have been many instances of trespassing from the other townsfolk.

Relationship Information: Nicholas is a kind and passionate lover, giving the same care and attention to his partner as he would one of his dolls. If he begins to show romantic interest in someone, he will attempt to court them and give small gifts to show his affection. These mainly include candid sketches and drawings. However, if he is in a depressive episode he will become more withdrawn and distant. There are also times where he will become too engrossed in his work and accidentally neglect his partner’s (and his own) needs. His partner will effectively become his muse and there is a high chance that he will create a doll, or multiple, in their likeness.

Relationships:

[Ellis Carr] Childhood friends. A friendly and charismatic man who was the one to suggest that Nicholas sell his dolls. He is Nicholas’ childhood friend and helps sell the dolls that the reclusive artist creates. Ellis does not believe in the rumors that Nicholas is behind the disappearances and adamantly defends his innocence.

[Eloise Clarke] Family. His mother’s sister. An wealthy, but extremely egotistical and opinionated woman. She is Nicholas’ estranged aunt who has an unwarranted vendetta against him. She is interested in inheriting his wealth as well as the home he lives in as it used to belong to her sister, and she believes it is rightfully hers. Eloise lives on the other side of the country, but will visit every so often to instigate tension.
