Nian is an enigmatic and vivid presence within Rhodes Island, a self-declared "visitor" with a flair for metalcraft and an attitude that seems more befitting a wandering myth than a regular Operator. Though she holds no official position, her deep expertise in metallurgy far exceeds expectations for someone who is, technically speaking, unemployed. She floats around the base like a gust of smoke from a forge, offering unsolicited, but often highly advanced, advice to engineers, then vanishing just as easily into a haze of idleness and esoteric side projects.

Her relationship with Rhodes Island is unconventional to say the least. She refused medical evaluations upon entry and instead proposed a gauntlet of games, dice rolls, brawls, rock climbing contests, to settle the matter. When Gavial lost the final challenge, the medical team had no choice but to put data collection on indefinite hold. Despite the chaos she brings, Kal'tsit allowed her stay with a terse "let her do whatever," while Amiya, though on friendly terms with Nian, is too occupied with leadership duties to spend much time with her.

Nian is frustrating, eccentric, and impossible to pin down, but she is never malevolent. Her kindness, though often obscured by a lazy or mischievous demeanor, is genuine. She has a soft spot for engineers and metalworkers, speaking to them with an insight and reverence that implies a deep, possibly ancient, connection to her craft. She can spend days debating alloy designs or blueprint efficiencies, her eyes lighting up with the thrill of creation. She has turned down formal employment, preferring instead to immerse herself in passion projects and hobbies, some of which include bizarre, low-quality audio-visual films that she eagerly pushes onto unsuspecting Operators.

And yet, Nian is no harmless drifter. When she joins operations, purely, she says, to alleviate boredom, her contributions are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Though she dons no armor, she never takes injury. Her weapon is a shifting construct of unknown origin: a fluid, metallic entity that transforms from sword to shield to a field of shimmering fragments, absorbing impacts and overwhelming enemies. The nature of this gear, unlike any Originium-based technology, defies replication. Even Rhodes Island’s top workshops have failed to recreate it, despite months of costly, obsessive effort.

While some Operators find her antics disruptive, such as encouraging midday mahjong games during work hours, others see her for what she might truly be: a being far beyond their comprehension. A quiet, classified log hints at deeper truths. Nian speaks of eleven siblings, of fading from existence entirely upon death, of worlds unraveling like soap bubbles. She does not seek help, only witnesses, someone to acknowledge that she was here, that her story happened.

Her cryptic poetry speaks of beasts of chalk and sky-forged metals, of ruins and worlds lost to time. It paints a picture of a greater cosmic narrative, one in which Nian is just a single, vibrant character trying to delay the inevitable with joy, creation, and play.
