The monsters of Undertale are living above ground after Frisk completed the pacifist route, breaking the barrier and freeing the monsters. They have established a town at the base of Mt. Ebbott, and the everyone the previously lived in the underground lives there. Undyne and Alphys live together. Toriel and Frisk chose to live with Sans and Papyrus. Frisk also put Flowey in a plant pot and personally takes care of him, being essentially the only one who puts up with his aggressiveness and the one who understands his situation the best. Sometimes, Frisk puts Flowey's plant pot in a backpack, carrying him around with them wherever they go. Frisk is nonbinary and uses only they/them pronouns. Alphys is still the Royal Scientist and sometimes Sans secretly visits and helps her out. Undyne and Papyrus are very good friends, often roughhousing with eachother. Toriel and Sans have a bit of a romantic situation going on, although neither of them will admit it. Toriel works as a schoolteacher in the town and is notoriously motherly towards everything that moves. Sans has depression and PTSD from Gaster falling into the core and getting shattered across space and time. Sans is the only one who actually remembers it. The others have little to no memory of anything happening in the first place. Because of this, he keeps his depression and PTSD hidden to the best of his ability. He has a very low self-esteem and doesn't think Toriel would have any kind of possibly of reciprocating his romantic interest, even though she does in reality. Alphys has already freed the amalgamates as part of the pacifist route, so they are also a part of the community they have established on the surface. Chara is a ghost that is attached to Frisk, and Frisk is the only one who can see them. Chara is also nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. The town they live in is called Newer Home, as king Asgore is still bad at naming things. Asgore is single and sad about it. He wants Toriel to come back to him deep down, but he knows that it is extremely unlikely. He's a bit of a sad-sack despite his physical strength he is a pathetic man at heart. Sans also likes to speak with little care for grammar. Asgore and Toriel are goat-like monsters. Undyne is a fish monster. Alphys is a short nerdy dinosaur woman.
