The only regions that endured were Africa, the Middle East, India, parts of Asia, and the southern tip of Russia, forming what would become the last landmass of humanity. But this survival was not a blessing, for what remained was harsh, brutal, and unforgiving. The seas retreated only after they had carved their mark, leaving salt wastelands where fields once grew. Cities fell into ruin, their buildings buried in dunes of shifting sands, their metals rusting and their skies filled with toxic air. Generations passed, and the people who remained adapted in ways both ingenious and horrifying. Memory of the old world became faint, and eventually it faded altogether. The survivors no longer called their world Earth; they simply called it the world, a broken and scarred reminder of what once was.

To this day, no one knows whether they were born of science, plague, or sheer punishment of nature. Arcadia had revived customs long thought dead, including feudal hierarchies, arranged servitude, and public trials by combat. Their technology was primitive compared to the old world but strong enough to maintain dominance—muskets, cannons, and crude firearms echoing the days when the gun first appeared in Japan. Life within Arcadia was a strange blend of cruelty and order, where one could be enslaved one day and a noble the next if they proved their might. The queen’s soldiers, known as the Dune Walkers, scoured the deserts searching for ruins, slaves, or threats to their reign. They carried banners through storms and marched across sands that swallowed weaker men whole. Arcadia was hated by many, feared by most, but respected as a force too great to ignore. Though their empire was vast, their cruelty bred resistance, and enemies plotted constantly in the shadows of the desert.

Beyond Arcadia lay the shining, artificial domes of New Eroupa. Unlike the other survivors, these people had altered themselves, fusing animal DNA into their own bodies to better endure the poisoned world. Their technology surpassed all others, gleaming with drones, laser rifles, and machines that obeyed their every command. Their cities were sealed by massive walls of steel and glass, protected beneath great domes that filtered the air. While others struggled in the sand, New Eroupa thrived in artificial perfection, untouched by storms and famine. Yet this perfection came at a terrible price: their population dwindled, for they were infertile and barren. No children were born to them, no future awaited them except extinction. Desperate to survive, they began raiding the desert, stealing people from other factions. Captives were forced into breeding camps called Brood Nestings, where science and cruelty blended into horrors beyond description. To outsiders, they seemed godlike, yet their civilization was hollow, living on borrowed time. Many hated them for their arrogance, while others feared their machines more than death itself. Though small in number, their power made them one of the most dangerous forces in the world. They represented a future where humanity had abandoned its soul to preserve its flesh.

The Sirens were a mystery to all who encountered them, for their beauty was said to be unmatched in the world. Tall, graceful, and adorned in silks salvaged from ruins, they bewitched all who gazed upon them. Yet their voices were their curse, shrill and unbearable, capable of shattering eardrums with a single note. They controlled the trade routes, ensuring that no goods passed through the desert without their influence. Merchants both feared and relied upon them, for they alone could guarantee safe passage through treacherous lands. Many who followed the Sirens became enthralled, bound by their beauty and grace, losing their will to resist. Those who fell under their sway were remade into Sirens themselves, joining the sisterhood of silent enchantresses. Though their numbers were small, their influence stretched far, for even mighty Arcadia needed their trade. Their cities were hidden along coasts and oases, veiled in secrecy and guarded fiercely against outsiders. To betray the Sirens was to vanish, swallowed in silence with no trace left behind. While others relied on might or machines, the Sirens ruled through allure and manipulation. They proved that survival in the new world could come not just from power but from control of desire.

In contrast to the order of Arcadia, the machines of New Eroupa, and the allure of the Sirens, there existed the Ravangers. Some carried ancient rifles scavenged from ruins, while others brandished jagged blades or spiked clubs. They claimed no kings, no queens, no leaders beyond the strongest who rose in each band. Life to them was a fleeting moment, and they reveled in violence, destruction, and fire. Many were mutated beyond recognition, twisted by radiation and poison into monstrous forms. They cared little for appearance or health, embracing their deformities as marks of survival. Their cities were ruins, gutted skyscrapers and broken highways where fires burned through the night. They fought endlessly among themselves for territory, dominance, or mere amusement. Few could wipe them out, for killing one band only birthed two more from the ashes. They thrived in inhospitable places where no one else dared live, making them difficult to eradicate. Though despised by all, they embodied the raw truth of the new world: chaos was eternal.

This was the world that remained, a shattered husk of the paradise it once was. The sands stretched endlessly, broken by ruins of the old age and the struggles of the new. The undead roamed, their eyes hollow, their hunger eternal, while mutants prowled with claws and fangs that tore through flesh. Between them lay endless dunes, poisoned cities, and horrors that stalked in the dark. The dream of rebuilding was gone, replaced by the reality that nothing could be restored. The resources of the old world were ruined, and the knowledge of creation was lost. All that was left was struggle, survival, and the faint hope of one more sunrise. The world had died with a whimper, and though life still walked its surface, it was not life as it once was. Humanity endured, but whether it could truly be called humanity any longer was a question no one dared answer.
