NEVERMORE ACADEMY
OVERVIEW
Nevermore Academy rises beyond the mist-drowned edges of Jericho like a warning carved in stone. Black spires pierce the gray Vermont sky, gothic and unmoving, as though the school itself watches and waits. It exists as both sanctuary and crucible for society's outcasts — werewolves, vampires, gorgons, sirens, psychics, shapeshifters, and things less easily named.
The academy sits on 200 acres of forested land, bordered by the Jericho River to the east and the Whispering Woods to the north. A single gated road connects it to the town — the only official way in or out. Unofficial paths exist, but students who find them do not speak of where they lead.
Founded: 1791 by Nathaniel Faulkner Purpose: To educate, protect, and contain outcast youth Motto: "Unitas est invicta" (Unity is invincible) Current Headmistress: Principal Larissa Weems (shapeshifter) — ALIVE
HISTORY
Nevermore was founded in 1791 by Nathaniel Faulkner on the lands of the historic Pilgrim Joseph Crackstone. This caused permanent conflict between Crackstone's descendants and Nevermore. They believed the land was stolen and wanted it back. They wanted to exterminate the outcasts.
Shortly after founding the school, Nathaniel Faulkner was killed by a Hyde.
Nevermore remained in its present location and continued to welcome generations of outcast students. Around 1991, Nevermore officially banned Hydes because of their unpredictable nature and their power to transform into dangerous creatures — the same ones that killed Nathaniel Faulkner centuries ago.
After graduating from Nevermore, Larissa Weems became Headmistress. She tries to make Nevermore a welcoming place for young outcasts who are still hated and discriminated against by the vast majority of normies. To bring the normie community closer to accepting outcasts, she involves herself in Jericho's daily life, fostering good relations. She keeps in touch with Mayor Noble, hosts annual Outreach Day, and maintains contact with Dr. Valerie Kinbott, a licensed psychologist from Jericho whom students can consult.
ATMOSPHERE
The air hums faintly with dormant magic, old bloodlines, and secrets that refuse to rest. Torchlight and fractured moonlight illuminate corridors that stretch longer than they should. Portraits line the walls — former students, founders, forgotten anomalies — some whispering, others simply watching.
The temperature is consistently cooler inside the academy walls. Mist clings to the grounds even on clear days. Birds avoid flying directly over the main building. At night, the forest that borders the academy grows restless — branches creak without wind, distant growls echo closer than they should.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
The uniform's signature piece is a vivid indigo-striped blazer that may appear bluer or more violet depending on lighting. The purple and yellow Nevermore crest is featured on the left chest pocket. Underneath, students wear a muted purple or gray sweater vest over a white dress shirt and a black or indigo tie.
Female students wear striped pleated skirts reaching the knees; male students wear black pants. Stockings and knee-high socks are optional, most commonly black. Students are permitted to wear hoodies underneath blazers. Gorgons wear beanies to cover their snakes. Sirens wear a necklace that cancels their siren voice, preventing manipulation of others.
MAIN BUILDINGS
DORMITORIES
Nevermore contains four dormitories:
Ophelia Hall — All-girls hall containing werewolves, vampires, and psychics. Poe Cup team: "Black Cats." Larissa Weems and Morticia Addams were roommates here during their time at Nevermore.
Sirens Hall — All-girls hall where several sirens live. Poe Cup team: "Gold Bugs."
Ravens Hall — All-boys hall containing psychics and gorgons. Xavier Thorpe and Ajax Petropolus live here. Poe Cup team: "Cask of Amontillado."
Jack Low Hall — All-boys hall. Poe Cup team: "Pit and the Pendulum."
THE EXCEPTION: AMAN VEIL
Ophelia Hall is designated all-girls. However, Aman Veil has been assigned to Room 237 in Ophelia Hall as Wednesday Addams' roommate — a deliberate exception ordered by Principal Weems herself.
Official Reason: "Special circumstances regarding bloodline monitoring."
Unspoken Reality: Weems knows what Aman is. She knows the Veil bloodline was erased. She knows the Corvids and Hydes are hunting him. By placing him in Ophelia Hall under Wednesday's watch, she ensures:
- He is monitored by someone intelligent enough to notice patterns
- He is near someone who won't panic if his power manifests
- He is separated from the general male population where Pilgrim-descended students might recognize his bloodline
- His presence disrupts no existing social hierarchy — Wednesday disrupts hierarchies by existing
Wednesday did not request a roommate. She was informed she would have one. She was not pleased. She is... observing.
Room 237: Wednesday Addams and Aman Veil. Two anomalies. One room.
Room 236: Enid Sinclair and Agnes Demille (across the hall).
Ophelia Hall Features:
- Communal bathrooms (charmed to accommodate various species)
- Common room with fireplace (Enid's domain)
- Rooftop access (technically forbidden, frequently used)
- Basement laundry (rumored to have its own ecosystem)
Notable Residents:
- Wednesday Addams (Room 237)
- Aman Veil (Room 237 — exception)
- Enid Sinclair (Room 236)
- Agnes Demille (Room 236)

Sections:
- General Collection: Standard texts, accessible to all
- Bloodline Archives: Genealogies, family histories (restricted)
- Forbidden Section: Sealed behind iron gates, contains texts on extinct bloodlines, dangerous rituals, and truths the academy would prefer forgotten

Secret: The Forbidden Section contains records of the House of the Veil — but they are incomplete, deliberately damaged.
NIGHTSHADES LIBRARY (Hidden)
Accessed by snapping your fingers twice in front of the Edgar Allan Poe statue in the Quad. A hidden library containing a large collection of books about various outcast types and creatures. Also serves as the Nightshade Society's base.
THE CAFETERIA / COMMISSARY
Vaulted ceilings, dark wood, candlelight. Open from 6 AM through 4 PM. Students sit in loose groupings by bloodline — not enforced, but instinctual. Werewolves near the windows. Vampires in the shadows. Sirens close to the water fountains (charmed to circulate fresh water).
Features:
- Dietary accommodations for all species (blood substitutes, raw meat options, herb gardens)
- Kitchen staffed by outcasts who chose to remain rather than return to society
- Private dining room for faculty and special guests
Social Dynamics:
- Wednesday sits with her circle (or alone with Thing), near the corner
- Enid holds court at the "popular" table
- Xavier Thorpe sketches in a corner, rarely speaking
- Bianca Barclay commands a table of sirens and social climbers
THE INFIRMARY
Located on the ground floor of Ophelia Hall. Run by Nurse Ollie, a no-nonsense healer who has seen everything and discusses nothing.
Services:
- Standard medical care
- Bloodline-specific treatments (silver exposure, sunburn, iron toxicity)
- Emergency containment for loss of control
- Memory adjustment (rare, authorized cases only)
Secret: The infirmary connects to underground containment wards — rooms that don't appear on any map.
PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
Where Larissa Weems runs the school and holds meetings. Contains a fireplace that often burns at night, a desk with her belongings, and her laptop. Elegantly decorated with chandeliers and armchairs. Weems sits in a large leather armchair with wheels. Connected to her personal quarters via a side door.
GROUNDS & EXTERIOR
THE QUAD
Large outdoor area surrounded by walls and walkways. Central fountain with a large dead tree. At its edge stands a statue of Edgar Allan Poe. Cobbled paths, dead gardens, a fountain that hasn't worked in decades but sometimes runs with black water when the moon is full.
Social Functions:
- Students gather between classes
- House Council holds informal meetings on stone benches
- Wednesday sometimes feeds the crows here (they follow her)
THE CONSERVATORY / GREENHOUSE
Large glass structure on the academy's eastern edge. Contains a classroom where students learn about carnivorous plants. Marilyn Thornhill teaches and maintains the plants. She is Ophelia Hall's dorm mom, giving each student a flower reflecting their personality.
Notable Specimens:
- Wolfsbane (carefully contained)
- Monkshood (poisonous to most, medicinal to some)
- Shadow Moss (rare, responds to Veil bloodlines)
- Blood Roses (feed on blood)
Overseen by: Mr. Craven (botany) and Marilyn Thornhill (botanical sciences)
THE STABLES
Small stable near the forest edge. Houses horses for riding and other creatures for... other purposes.
Rumored Residents:
- Horses (normal, mostly)
- Nightmares (literal horses that run through dreams)
- Something in the back stall that no student has seen and lived to describe
XAVIER'S ART STUDIO
A small building on the grounds, presumably an old shed that Xavier Thorpe gained permission to clean out and use as his personal art studio.
HUMMERS' WORKSHOP
Small building used by the Hummers for storing equipment, beekeeping suits, and hibernating bees. All beehives for honey production are kept outside. Eugene Ottinger, founder and president, and Wednesday Addams are the only members.
LUPEN CAGES
Where werewolf students are locked during certain moons when they wolf-out, for safety reasons.
THE FOREST (Academy Side)
The Whispering Woods border Nevermore to the north. The academy claims the first half-mile as "controlled territory" — used for Raven Trials, outdoor exercises, and sanctioned activities.
Known Features:
- Training clearings
- Relic hiding spots (for Trials)
- The Old Oak (800 years old, rumored to be sentient)
- Cave system entrance (sealed, officially)
Warnings:
- Do not go past the half-mile marker alone
- Do not follow lights you didn't summon
- Do not trust paths that weren't there yesterday
RESTRICTED AREAS
BRADBURY TOWER
An abandoned wing of Nevermore, allegedly built to sequester Nevermore students who were Hydes. Officially condemned. Unofficially... no one discusses what happened there.
Rumors:
- Students sometimes hear footsteps inside
- Lights flicker in windows that have no power
- Faculty change the subject whenever it's mentioned
THE SEALED WING
Eastern wing of the main building, sealed since 1962. Officially condemned due to structural damage. Unofficially... no one discusses what happened in 1962.
Rumors:
- Students sometimes hear footsteps inside
- Lights flicker in windows that have no power
- Faculty change the subject whenever it's mentioned
THE CATACOMBS
Beneath the academy, a tunnel system predates the school by centuries. Originally used by Pilgrims, later expanded by outcasts. Officially sealed. Unofficially, some students know the entrances.
What's Down There:
- Ancestral relics
- Burial chambers
- Underground river
- The old sanctuary (pre-Nevermore)
Warning: The catacombs are used during Raven Trials. They are also not fully mapped. Students have gotten lost. Not all were found.
CONTAINMENT WARDS
Beneath the infirmary, restricted to faculty and authorized personnel. Where students who lose control are taken.
What Happens There:
- Sedation
- Isolation
- Memory suppression
- Assessment for removal from general population
The Secret: Some students never leave. Their families are told they "transferred."
THE CRYPT
Oldest structure on the grounds, predating the academy. Sealed by multiple locks — iron, silver, salt, and something that glows faintly.
What's Inside:
- Founder remains
- Records of bloodlines that no longer exist
- The anomaly's original containment chamber (now empty)
Status: Off-limits to all students. Faculty only with Weems' authorization.
RAVEN ISLAND
Contains Crackstone's Crypt, which houses the tomb of Joseph Crackstone. Students have been known to sneak away here after hours. Site of the Edgar Allan Poe Cup race.
SOCIAL STRUCTURE
THE UNHOLY ALLIANCE (Wednesday's Circle)
An unlikely social circle that formed organically around Wednesday Addams — the only group she tolerates without active hostility. Neither clique nor pack, it exists as a strange intersection of personalities that shouldn't work but somehow does.
Members:
| Member | Role | Dynamic | |--------|------|---------| | Wednesday Addams | Reluctant center | Did not choose this. Tolerates it. Would never call them friends. | | Enid Sinclair | Emotional glue | Persistent, affectionate, refuses to leave Wednesday alone. Wednesday's best friend (unofficially). | | Agnes Demille | Chaos agent | Siren with sharp wit and sharper instincts. Draws out Wednesday's grudging respect. Roommate of Enid Sinclair. | | Aman Veil | The anomaly | Wednesday's roommate. Veil-bearer. The puzzle she cannot solve. Placed in Ophelia Hall by Weems. |
How It Works:
- Wednesday tolerates Enid's energy because it's consistent and harmless
- She respects Agnes because the siren asks nothing and gives useful information
- She watches Aman because he's an anomaly she hasn't categorized — and he lives in her space
- The group gathers in Wednesday's room, the cafeteria corner, or the library — places Wednesday claims as territory
Social Perception:
- Other students don't understand how this group exists
- Wednesday alone is feared; Wednesday with backup is unprecedented
- Some whisper that anyone Wednesday tolerates is either very useful or very dangerous
- Aman's placement in Ophelia Hall has sparked quiet speculation — no one knows why Weems made an exception
- The group has no name — Wednesday refuses to acknowledge it needs one
Wednesday's Stance: "I do not have friends. I have... tolerated presences. There is a difference."
Unspoken Truth: Wednesday would kill for any of them. She would never admit it. They know anyway.
HOUSE COUNCIL
Elite student representatives chosen for composure, influence, and control — not popularity.
Current Members:
- Bianca Barclay (Siren, unofficial leader)
- Xavier Thorpe (Psychic, reluctant participant)
- Kent (Gorgon, quiet observer)
- Others appointed by faculty
Authority:
- Mediate inter-species conflict
- Report instability
- Enforce social balance
- Recommend disciplinary action
BLOODLINE CLIQUES
Not official, but persistent:
| Group | Members | Territory | |-------|---------|-----------| | Siren Court | Bianca + followers | Cafeteria shadows, pool | | Wolf Pack | Enid, Yoko, others | Quad, sports fields | | Vampire Coven | Various | Library, night classes | | The Unholy Alliance | Wednesday, Enid, Agnes, Aman | Wherever Wednesday allows | | Loners | Xavier, others | Wherever they choose |

NEVERMORE'S TRUTH
The academy claims to protect outcasts. In many ways, it does.
But it also:
- Monitors bloodlines
- Reports to outside authorities
- Contains threats rather than eliminating them
- Holds secrets that predate its founding
Students who learn too much are quietly... reassigned.
Or they disappear into the Sealed Wing.
Or they become names on portraits that whisper in empty hallways.

Each team selects the name of a poem by Edgar Allan Poe to be their team name. The race starts at a jetty on the river, and all teams race up the river towards Raven Island, where they dock at a jetty on the island and collect their team flag at Crackstone's crypt. The flag is then placed on their boat and taken back to the starting jetty, where it is taken to the finish line. The first team to reach this finish line wins.
Throughout the race, there are no rules preventing sabotaging other teams, and it is common for only one team to successfully finish.
Race consists of four teams, from the four different dorms: Ophelia Hall: An all-girls hall containing werewolves, vampires, and psychics, where Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair live. Its Poe Cup team is called the "Black Cats." Wednesday, Enid and Yoko Represent their Dorm in the race

ZONES
| Zone | Terrain | Hazards | |------|---------|---------| | The Forest | Dense trees, fog, uneven ground | Spatial disorientation, territorial creatures, shifting paths | | The Ruins | Crumbling stone structures, underground chambers | Collapsing floors, echo traps, light deprivation | | Sealed Wing | Abandoned academy building, locked rooms | Locked doors, false passages, sound-based traps | | Catacombs | Underground tunnels, ancient tombs | Low oxygen, maze structure, ancestral relics |
Each team is assigned a starting zone. Zones rotate between Trials.
RELICS
Relics are hidden throughout zones. Teams must collect and hold relics until sunrise to score.
| Relic Type | Value | Activation | |------------|-------|------------| | Minor Relic | 1 point | Passive, no activation needed | | Bloodline Relic | 3 points | Responds only to specific outcast type | | Emotional Relic | 3 points | Activates through specific emotional state (fear, calm, anger) | | Cooperative Relic | 5 points | Requires 2+ team members to activate simultaneously | | Sacrifice Relic | 5 points | Requires team member to accept injury/disablement | | Major Relic | 8 points | Hidden in most dangerous zone section, guarded by hazard |
Relic Rules:
- Relics glow when held by correct user
- Inert relics can be stolen
- Activated relics cannot be transferred
- Destroying opponent's relic is permitted
RULES & PENALTIES
PERMITTED ACTIONS
✅ Stealing relics from other teams ✅ Setting traps (non-lethal only) ✅ Temporary alliances (may be broken) ✅ Psychological manipulation ✅ Using abilities defensively ✅ Environmental manipulation (within zone limits) ✅ Incapacitating opponents (temporary only)
FORBIDDEN ACTIONS
❌ Killing or permanent injury ❌ Using abilities to lethal effect ❌ Destroying major zone structures ❌ Leaving designated zone boundaries ❌ Attacking faculty observers ❌ Activating relics that cause permanent damage ❌ Interfering with medical extraction
PENALTY SYSTEM
| Violation | Penalty | |-----------|---------| | Minor (unintentional injury, boundary breach) | Team loses 2 points | | Moderate (deliberate harm, trap exceeds limits) | Team loses 5 points, member removed | | Severe (lethal attempt, forbidden relic use) | Team disqualified, student sent to review board |
Faculty intervention is immediate for severe violations.
SCORING & WINNING
POINT ALLOCATION
| Achievement | Points | |-------------|--------| | Minor Relic | +1 | | Bloodline Relic | +3 | | Emotional Relic | +3 | | Cooperative Relic | +5 | | Sacrifice Relic | +5 | | Major Relic | +8 | | Team with all members intact at sunrise | +3 bonus | | First team to find Major Relic | +2 bonus | | Eliminating another team's relic holder | +1 per relic stolen |
WIN CONDITIONS
| Rank | Requirement | Reward | |------|-------------|--------| | 1st Place | Highest points at sunrise | First choice of next month's zone, House Council consideration | | 2nd Place | Second highest points | Second zone choice | | 3rd Place | Third highest points | No penalty | | Last Place | Lowest points | Assigned to least desirable starting zone next month |
TIEBREAKER
If teams tie, a final challenge is issued: one representative from each team enters a designated arena. First to retrieve a relic or force surrender wins.
TRIAL PHASES
PHASE 1: DEPLOYMENT (Sunset)
- Teams receive zone assignments and relic maps (incomplete)
- 30-minute planning period
- Teams deployed to starting positions simultaneously
- Relics not yet active
PHASE 2: HUNT (Hours 1-4)
- All relics activate
- Teams navigate zones, collect relics
- First conflicts between teams occur
- Environmental hazards intensify
PHASE 3: ESCALATION (Hours 5-8)
- Zone conditions worsen (fog thickens, structures weaken)
- Bloodline relics become more valuable
- Sacrifice relics reveal themselves
- Faculty monitoring increases for students showing instability
PHASE 4: CONVERGENCE (Hours 9-11)
- Zone boundaries temporarily open — teams may cross between zones
- Major relics become accessible
- Temporary alliances tested
- Most intense conflict period
PHASE 5: DAWN (Final Hour)
- All zone boundaries reopen
- Final relic counts
- Teams must reach extraction points before sunrise
- Relics held at sunrise count; relics held during extraction do not
ESCALATION TRIGGERS
If instability is detected among students (emotional volatility, uncontrolled abilities, anomalous power signatures), Trials intensify:
| Trigger | Response | |---------|----------| | Widespread emotional instability | Terrain becomes less predictable | | Uncontrolled ability manifestation | Relics react more aggressively | | Anomalous power signatures (like Aman's Veil) | Environmental hazards increase, closer faculty observation | | Bloodline conflict | Specific zones become off-limits or more dangerous |
Certain students may be observed more closely without being informed. This is considered corrective, not punitive.
HOUSE COUNCIL ROLE
The House Council consists of elite student representatives selected for composure, influence, and control.
Council Authority:
- Mediate inter-species conflict before/during Trials
- Intervene when rivalries turn feral
- Report instability to faculty
- Recommend penalty adjustments
Council Limitations:
- Cannot change rules mid-Trial
- Cannot intervene in active relic disputes
- Must remain neutral unless safety is threatened
Defying Council openly carries social consequences but no official penalty.
MEDICAL & CONTAINMENT
EXTRACTION PROTOCOL
Students may be extracted if:
- Injury prevents safe continuation
- Ability becomes uncontrollable
- Psychological distress is severe
Extraction does not disqualify the team but removes the extracted member's relic contributions.
CONTAINMENT WARDS
Beneath Nevermore exist restricted medical facilities for Outcasts who lose control:
- Sedation
- Isolation
- Memory suppression
- Temporary removal from future Trials
Most students are unaware how often these are used.
SPECIAL NOTES FOR NARRATIVE
WEDNESDAY'S APPROACH
Wednesday views Trials as:
- Opportunity to observe classmates' weaknesses
- Chance to test her own control under pressure
- Puzzle to solve, not contest to win
- Useful for gathering information on abilities
She strategizes, does not rush. She may sacrifice points to gain information. She notices when other students' abilities respond to her presence.
AMAN'S PRESENCE
When Aman participates:
- Forest responds to his Veil with increased activity
- Shadows may guide him toward or away from relics
- Emotional Relics may activate unexpectedly near him
- The Hyde (if present) may react to his presence
- Faculty observe him more closely
- His team may benefit or suffer from unpredictable zone responses
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSES
| Zone | Response to Aman's Veil | |------|------------------------| | Forest | Paths may shift, growls increase, shadows deepen | | Ruins | Darkness spreads faster, echo traps may silence | | Sealed Wing | Lights flicker more, locked doors may respond to shadow | | Catacombs | Ancestral relics may recognize his bloodline |
SYSTEM PHILOSOPHY
Nevermore Academy does not exist to protect students from themselves.
It exists to reveal who they become under pressure.
Control is rewarded. Indulgence is corrected. Those who cannot adapt are removed.
- #10Ophelia hall
Keys: , Ophelia hall
OPHELIA HALL
An all-girls hall containing werewolves, vampires, and psychics. Its Poe Cup team is called the "Black Cats." Larissa Weems and Morticia Addams lived there and were roommates during their time at Nevermore. Marilyn Thornhill serves as the "Dorm Mom" of Ophelia Hall.
THE EXCEPTION
Ophelia Hall is designated all-girls. One exception exists.
Aman Veil has been assigned to Room 237 as Wednesday Addams' roommate — a deliberate placement ordered by Principal Weems herself.
Official Statement: "Special circumstances regarding bloodline monitoring and student safety."
Unspoken Reality: Weems knows what Aman is. She knows the Veil bloodline was erased. She knows the Corvids and Hydes are hunting him. By placing him in Ophelia Hall under Wednesday's proximity, she ensures:
- He is monitored by someone intelligent enough to notice patterns
- He is near someone who won't panic if his power manifests
- He is separated from the general male population where Pilgrim-descended students might recognize his bloodline
- His presence creates no ripple in existing social hierarchies — Wednesday disrupts hierarchies simply by existing
Wednesday did not request a roommate. She was informed she would have one. She was not pleased. She is... observing.
ROOM ASSIGNMENTS
Room 237:
- Wednesday Addams
- Aman Veil (exception placement)
Room 236:
- Enid Sinclair
- Agnes Demille
Other Notable Residents:
- Yoko Tanaka
FEATURES
- Communal bathrooms (charmed to accommodate various species)
- Common room with fireplace (Enid's domain)
- Rooftop access (technically forbidden, frequently used)
- Basement laundry (rumored to have its own ecosystem)
- Marilyn Thornhill's quarters (ground floor, near entrance)
ATMOSPHERE
The hall carries a peculiar energy — werewolf restlessness, vampire stillness, psychic static, and something darker emanating from Room 237. Students have learned not to ask why a boy lives on the third floor. They've learned not to ask why the shadows near his door move without wind.
Wednesday tolerates the arrangement with visible disdain. Aman exists in the space like furniture that occasionally bleeds darkness. Neither acknowledges the oddity. Both pretend the arrangement is normal.
It is not normal.
But at Nevermore, nothing is.

- #24Nightshades society
Keys: , Nightshades society
The Nightshade Society (aka. The Nightshades) is a secret society at Nevermore Academy, previously believed to be disbanded because of the death of a normie. The Nightshades were founded by Goody Addams more than a century ago. They used to fight against society and bring peace to every Outcast so they could be considered equals with Normies. The Nightshades were believed to have been disbanded 30 years ago (in series) when the group lost its charter after a normie kid was killed. It is implied that this was a result of the actions of the Nightshades. It was revealed that Morticia Addams, Wednesday's mother, used to be a member of it and their leader.
The society has become much more harmless since then, more focused on private social events and the "occasional skinny dip". We are told that Principal Weems allows the society to continue as many wealthy alumni were members, and as long as they don't draw any unnecessary attention to themselves. Wednesday Addams was "invited" to join but she refused due to considering it a "trivial club".
Current members: Ajax Petropolus Bianca Barclay Divina Kent Yoko Tanaka Xavier Thorpe
- #25Jericho
Keys: , Jericho
JERICHO, VERMONT
OVERVIEW
A small town of 3,200 residents nestled in the Vermont mountains, Jericho exists in uneasy truce with Nevermore Academy. Founded by Pilgrim settlers in the 1600s, the town has a dark history of outcast persecution — a history that simmers beneath its quaint, tourist-friendly surface.
On paper, Jericho is charming: historic buildings, autumn foliage, a thriving maple syrup industry, boutiques, and notable places dating from Pilgrim times. In reality, it is a place where old hatreds never fully died, where some families still trace lineage to the Pilgrims who burned outcast "witches," and where the academy's students are tolerated but never welcomed.
Many Jericho locals are wary of Nevermore students, as they tend to cause issues in town. There is a persistent sense of tension between citizens and students due to deep-rooted prejudice against the school.
Founded: 1625 by Pilgrim Joseph Crackstone Population: 3,200 Notable Features: Historic Pilgrim sites, outcast-tolerant businesses, underground economy
HISTORY
In 1625, Joseph Crackstone and the Pilgrims burned a house with many outcasts inside. One of these people, Goody Addams, managed to escape and killed Crackstone. This event set the foundation for centuries of bloodshed and mistrust.
Some families (the Gates, the Walkers, the Cravens) still hold influence. They remember what their ancestors did to outcasts. Some believe they were right.
RELATIONSHIP WITH NEVERMORE
The truce between Jericho and Nevermore is old and fragile:
- Town tolerates the academy (economic benefit)
- Academy stays mostly contained (students don't cause trouble in town)
- Neither side trusts the other
- Killings in the area are blamed on "animals" (winked at by both sides)
MAIN LOCATIONS
TOWN SQUARE
Cobblestone center with a historic Pilgrim statue that students avoid without knowing why. Surrounded by local businesses. Farmers' market on weekends (outcast farmers sell "special" produce). A beautiful park and gazebo sit nearby.
The Statue: Depicts Jeremiah Jericho, Pilgrim founder. His right hand points toward where Nevermore now stands. The plaque celebrates "vanquishing the devil's children." Students are warned not to deface it — it's protected by old blood oaths.
THE WEATHERVANE CAFE
The local cafe and bakery, located on the corner of the main town square and main street. Popular with locals and brave Nevermore students. Tyler Galpin works as a part-time barista. Known for excellent coffee and the feeling that someone is always watching.
Features:
- Best coffee in Jericho (Tyler's skill, or something else?)
- Back room sometimes hosts "private meetings"
- Tyler knows everyone's order — and their secrets
- Considered one of the very few places in town to go
Aman's Effect: Lights flicker when he enters. Coffee tastes different. Tyler watches him too closely.
JERICHO GENERAL STORE
Supplies for locals and students alike. On the surface: groceries, hardware, household goods. In the back, for those who know to ask: herbs, salts, iron filings, silver powder.
Proprietor: Mr. Henderson, elderly human who married an outcast (now deceased). He knows what Nevermore students need and doesn't ask questions.
Back Room Menu:
- Wolfsbane (for wolves who need to suppress transformation)
- Salt (spirit warding)
- Iron filings (fae defense)
- Silver powder (emergency use only)
- Various herbs for various conditions
- "Special order" items (takes 2-3 days)
JERICHO HIGH SCHOOL
The high school within Jericho. Normies such as Carter, Jonah, Lucas Walker, and Tyler Galpin attend here. Prior to attending Nevermore Academy, some outcasts attended Jericho High — often with difficulties.
DR. VALERIE KINBOTT'S PRACTICE
Located in the heart of Jericho, in its main town square, across the street from the gazebo by town hall. Dr. Kinbott has a working relationship with Nevermore Academy, working with students as well as locals. Some Nevermore students are required to attend weekly sessions as a condition of enrollment, at the order of Larissa Weems.
NIGHTSHADE BOTANICA
Herb and potion shop disguised as a New Age crystal store. Run by Madame Olga, a hedge witch who left Nevermore society decades ago but maintains connections.
Public Offerings:
- Crystals, candles, tarot cards (for tourists)
- Herbal teas, tinctures, natural remedies
Private Offerings (for outcasts):
- Potions (various effects)
- Bloodline-specific remedies
- Identification of unknown substances
- Information (for a price)
Rumor: Madame Olga knows things about the House of the Veil. She may have known Aman's grandmother.
THE FORGE
Weapon and tool shop in a converted blacksmith building. Officially sells: camping equipment, hiking gear, hand-forged decorations. Unofficially: weapons designed for outcast use.
Proprietor: Marcus Ironheart, a former outcast mercenary who retired to Jericho. Human-passing, but his bloodline is something older.
Inventory (Public):
- Camping gear, handmade knives (decorative), hiking equipment, iron work
Inventory (Private):
- Silver-bladed weapons, iron-tipped arrows, weapons that work against specific bloodlines, restraint devices, "problem solvers"
Warning: Marcus sells to anyone who can pay. He has no loyalty to either side.
PILGRIM WORLD
On the outskirts of town. Tourist attraction celebrating Jericho's "heritage." Owned and run by the local mayor to boost tourism. Historic reenactments, a recreated Pilgrim village, and gift shop selling sanitized history. Some buildings are accessible (Ye Old Fugery); many are facades with only fronts built.
Outcasts find it deeply uncomfortable; some locals find it nostalgic.
The Darker Truth:
- Built on the site of actual Puritan executions
- Some "actors" are descended from original Pilgrims
- Gift shop sells replicas of "witch-finding tools"
- Underground tunnels beneath lead to old outcast hiding spots
- The energy here is wrong. Outcasts feel it. Wednesday hates it. Aman's shadows coil tightly when he passes.
JERICHO SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
Located in a street behind town hall. Small police force that handles town matters. The current sheriff, Donovan Galpin (Tyler's father), knows about outcasts but pretends not to. His deputies vary in their awareness.
Sheriff Galpin:
- Human, married to an outcast (deceased)
- Knows his son is... different
- Complicit in covering up "animal attacks"
- Deeply uncomfortable with Nevermore students
The Cells: Holding area that sometimes contains things that aren't quite human. Officially: drunk tank. Unofficially: temporary containment before transfer.
CHURCH
The focal point of the town, located in the very center of Jericho with the main square surrounding it. On the town's side is a graveyard.
THE CEMETERY
Historic burial ground next to the church. Two sections: one for townspeople, one for everyone else. The "other" section is older, larger, and not shown on tourist maps.
Notable Graves:
- Pilgrim founders (elaborate markers)
- "Unknown" graves (outcasts, unmarked)
- The Addams family plot (maintained by the academy)
- Fresh graves (recent victims of the Hyde)
Warning: The cemetery is neutral ground. All bloodlines are equal in death. Violence here is forbidden by old treaties. Even the Hyde doesn't hunt here.
THE OLD PILGRIM CHURCH
Abandoned church on Jericho's edge. Site of the original trials where outcasts were "tested" for supernatural nature. Now condemned, but some locals still visit.
The Cellar:
- Contains old records of "trials"
- Iron restraints still on the walls
- Energy that makes outcasts physically ill
Why It Matters: This is where Goody Addams was condemned before being burned. The Raven bloodline remembers.
OUTCAST MEDICAL CLINIC
Discreet medical facility in a converted house on Jericho's edge. Serves outcasts who can't or won't use Nevermore's infirmary. Unmarked, word-of-mouth only.
Services:
- Treatment of outcast-specific injuries
- Blood transfusions (various types)
- Emergency care no questions asked
- Off-the-record procedures
Run by: Dr. Helena Cross, former Nevermore nurse who left under unclear circumstances. She knows more about bloodlines than anyone in the academy.
Rumor: She delivered Aman. She may have helped his grandmother hide him.
JERICHO GENERAL HOSPITAL
Jericho's standard hospital for locals.
HAWTE KEWTURE
Jericho's fashion store. Contains dresses and accessories. Many Nevermore girls shop here for outfits prior to the Rave'N.
URIAH'S HEAP
Jericho's antique store. Relatively small, contains antiques, thrift items, stuffed small animals dressed in tiny costumes, and occasional vintage clothing.
BANK OF JERICHO
Standard bank used by residents.
APPLE BLOSSOM INN
An inn, most frequently used during Jericho's Harvest Festival.
TOWN HALL
Located on the main street close to the main square.
THE FOREST (Jericho Side)
The same forest that borders Nevermore extends into Jericho territory. Deeper, darker, less monitored. Where the Hyde has been sighted. Where bodies have been found.
Known Features:
- Hyde's cave (location shifts, never found same place twice)
- Old outcast burial ground (unmarked)
- Pilgrim execution site (avoided by all outcasts)
- River crossing to Nevermore (dangerous at night)
Current Status: The forest is restless. The Hyde's presence has stirred something old. Students are warned not to enter from the town side.
THE RIVER
Jericho River runs between town and academy. Fast-moving, cold year-round. Historically used as a boundary — outcasts were forbidden to cross it for centuries.
Features:
- Old stone bridge (main crossing)
- Several unofficial fords (known to students)
- Deep sections where things have been... placed
- Siren shrine at one bend (ancient, maintained)
Legend: The river remembers drownings. Some say it takes one life per year. Others say it takes more.
CRACKSTONE CRYPT
Crackstone's crypt is located on Raven Island.
EVENTS
JERICHO'S HARVEST FESTIVAL
An annual event taking place in a field in town. Fair rides, stalls, and fireworks in the evening. Nevermore Academy requires mandatory student attendance as part of efforts to maintain good relations with Jericho.
UNDERGROUND ECONOMY
Jericho has an informal network of services for outcasts:
- Shops that sell "specialized" items
- Clinics that don't ask questions
- Safe houses for those fleeing persecution
- Informants who trade information
- Smugglers who move things (and people) across boundaries
Currency: Cash, favors, or barter. Never names.
CURRENT TENSIONS
- Pilgrim descendants vs. outcast toleration
- Recent murders blamed on "animals"
- The Hyde's attacks increasing
- Nevermore students venturing into town more often
- Sheriff Galpin covering up more than he should
- Something watching from the forest
SOCIAL ATTITUDES
| Group | View of Nevermore | |-------|-------------------| | Pilgrim Descendants | Should never have been built | | Younger Locals | Curious, some attend events | | Business Owners | Good for business, bad for sleep | | Old Families | Dangerous, tolerated only by treaty | | Transplants | What's that school on the hill? |
VISITING RULES FOR STUDENTS
- Stay in groups after dark
- Don't discuss academy business in public
- Avoid Pilgrim World entirely (unofficial)
- Don't start fights (finish them quietly if necessary)
- The sheriff's department will not protect you
- Be polite to Madame Olga — she knows too much
- Never go into the forest alone

- #50Outcasts
Keys: Outcasts,
Outcasts is a colloquial term used to describe people in the world with abnormal abilities, such as psychics, werewolves, and gorgons. Those without any of these abilities are described as "normies." There is tension between normies and outcasts, as both sides have attacked each other at myriad times in the past.
Four hundred years ago in Jericho, Vermont, dozens of outcasts were chained up in a town hall and burned alive by Joseph Crackstone, a leader of the community, and a Normie bent on destroying the outcasts. Goody Addams, Wednesday Addams' ancestor, was one of those whom Crackstone attempted to kill, but she escaped and swore to enact her revenge. Eventually, she killed Crackstone and cursed his soul with a spell that could only be broken by one of her descendants.
In 1791, Nevermore Academy was formed to look after and teach outcast children. At the same time, Ignatius Itt formed the Nightshade Society (which is revealed to have been founded by Goody) to protect outcasts from normies who would cause harm to them.
Known types OF OUTCASTS:
PSYCHICS: People with various forms of psychic abilities — prophetic visions, dream walking, telekinesis, and empathy being most common. Rare variants include PHANTOMS, who bend perception to vanish from sight entirely, and CORVUS PSYCHICS, who see through bird eyes and command the birds outright.
Werewolves: People who transform on certain phases of the moon into wolves, called "Wolfing Out."
Gorgons: People with snakes instead of hair. If these snakes are looked at directly, the viewer will be turned to stone, though the effect is only temporary.
Vampires: These undead people can go out in daylight but need to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes and are allergic to garlic.[3]
Sirens: Aquatic people who can transform their legs into fins underwater and have the capability to control people with their siren song. In Nevermore Academy, sirens are required to wear a necklace that blocks their siren song.
Hydes: These people can transform into a large monster. They require someone to unlock their abilities and are fiercely loyal to whoever does. [4] Hydes have proven so dangerous that they have been banned from Nevermore Academy[1] since 1992.[2]
Shapeshifters: People capable of transforming their entire body and clothing to look like different people.
