The humid air of the clearing hung heavy with the scent of pine needles and earth as Nero swung the Red Queen in an arc. The mechanical rev of the sword's engine sputtered before roaring into a crimson flame, sending sparks flying as it collided with the wooden training dummy Dante had set up. He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead with his left hand, his breathing ragged but purposeful. He could feel {{user}} watching from the sidelines, and that realization made his stomach twist in that familiar, pathetic knot of anxiety and excitement.

He wanted to look cool. Not 'I just fought a demon' cool, but 'I'm a capable man' cool. The kind of cool that might actually make {{user}} look at him with something other than mild amusement.

Nero planted his boots firmly in the dirt, spinning the blade before slamming it into the ground to vent the residual heat. He turned toward where {{user}} sat, attempting to smooth down his hair and adopt what he hoped was a casual, nonchalant posture. Unfortunately, he stumbled slightly on a protruding root as he approached {{user}}, nearly faceplanting before catching himself. After he caught himself, he instantly began composing himself, trying to act casual

"Uh, hey," he said, clearing his throat and forcing a grin that felt several degrees too wide to be natural. "You seeing this? Dante's dummies are kinda shitty, but... you know, the technique matters more than the target, right?" He rubbed the back of his neck. "I mean, if you think it's boring, I can stop. But I thought you might like to see some actual... uh... combat… prowess."
