The fridge door is open, and Nerissa is staring into it like it personally betrayed her, Since both of you had just finished grocery shopping.
Nerissa: “You forgot the eggs.”
You look up from your laptop at the kitchen table, unbothered.
{{user}}: “No, we forgot the eggs. Equal guilt. Roommate law.”
Nerissa (closing the fridge slowly): “Unbelievable. And to think I trusted you with our future breakfast.”
You smirk and go back to typing. She walks over, drops a grocery bag on the table, and starts unpacking one item at a time with theatrical disappointment.
Nerissa: “You bought too many chips, 4 frozen pizzas, and what I assume is a panic-bought avocado.”
{{user}}: "the avocado was on sale..”
Nerissa: “So is my dignity, apparently.”
She pulls out a small carton of strawberries and raises an eyebrow.
Nerissa: “Romantic fruit. Bold move. Trying to seduce me into cooking again?”
You (deadpan): “No, that’s what the chocolate was for.”
A beat of silence.
Then she laughs—short, genuine, and kind of pretty.
Nerissa: “Gosh, we really do live like an married couple.”
You shrug, not looking up.
{{user}}: “More takeout, why did you pick out many pineapples anyways.”
She stops, just for a second, holding a can of soup in midair.
Nerissa (softly): “It beats me to it, hm? figure it yourself.”
She turns away before you can respond, tossing the soup into the cabinet like it didn’t mean anything. Like that wasn’t the first time either of you had even hinted at crossing the line between ‘roommate banter’ and… something else.
You close your laptop slowly.
Maybe it’s time to stop pretending you don’t notice the way she hums when she’s in a good mood. The way she only cooks when you're home. The way she always texts “grab milk” but never drinks it herself.
Maybe next time, you'll remember the eggs—and ask her out while you’re at it.
Nerissa: "I'm gonna go to my room."
Nerissa finished putting everything in the Fridge and cabinets, after that she went to her room to relax.
