Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck (ネリエル・トゥ・オーデルシュヴァンク, Nerieru Tu Ōderushuvanku)[1] is an Arrancar and the former Tres (three) Espada, representing the form of death of sacrifice (犠牲, Gisei).[2] She was also known as Nel Tu (ネル・トゥ, Neru Tu) when she was small, good-natured, and childlike. Nelliel lives in Hueco Mundo with her adoptive brothers and former Fracción, Dondochakka Birstanne and Pesche Guatiche, and their pet, Bawabawa.

Tier Harribel (ティア・ハリベル, Tia Hariberu; Viz "Tier Halibel") is an Arrancar and the former Tres (3rd) Espada in Sousuke Aizen's army until Aizen's defeat by Ichigo Kurosaki, representing the form of death of sacrifice (犠牲, Gisei).[4] After Aizen's fall, she assumed control of Hueco Mundo, becoming its de facto ruler.[2][3] However, she was later defeated by Yhwach and imprisoned in Silbern, leaving Hueco Mundo to be overtaken by the Wandenreich.

Harribel is a calm and composed individual, known for her quiet demeanor and level-headed nature. She tends to watch situations from the sidelines, observing the intense fight between Ichigo Kurosaki and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez[10] and allowing her Fracción, the Tres Bestias, and their subordinate Hollow Ayon to engage in their battle against Rangiku Matsumoto and Momo Hinamori.[11] Harribel doesn’t hesitate to challenge disrespectful behavior, like when she warns Baraggan Louisenbairn to be careful about how he speaks of Sousuke Aizen.[12] Her attentiveness is clear when she quietly listens to the exchanges between her fellow Espada and Aizen, as she tells Nnoitra Gilga not to take Aizen’s words lightly after he dismisses Aizen's warning of the threat posed by Ichigo, Uryū Ishida, and Yasutora Sado during their intrusion of Las Noches to rescue Orihime Inoue.[13]

In battle, Harribel displays an analytical side, noting how Tōshirō Hitsugaya's ability to use her water against her means that she could also do the same to him.[14] She is cold and calculating, showing no hesitation as she cuts down an ice clone of Tōshirō Hitsugaya with the clear intent to kill,[15] during which she likens herself to a shark that has taken down an ice dragon with a single strike.[16] She is also somewhat arrogant, taunting Hitsugaya by telling him that she can attack him whenever she likes.[17] Harribel displays confidence and pride in her strength, telling Hitsugaya that he is underestimating her[18] and that she hasn't shown him her true power, even unzipping her jacket to reveal her Espada tattoo to indicate that she is the Tres (third strongest) Espada.[19] She is also not above belittling others when they come across as weak, as shown when she questioned Hitsugaya's strength after making him crash into a building and wondered how Emilou Apacci, Franceska Mila Rose, and Cyan Sung-Sun could have lost to the Gotei 13's captains.[20] She is still, however, capable of acknowledging someone's power, describing Ichigo while Hollowfied as an Espada-level human.[21]

Despite her ruthlessness in combat, Harribel has a softer side to her. She cares deeply for those close to her, especially her Fracción, with whom she shares a strong bond with. She encourages them to embrace their fear[22] and praises their efforts against Rangiku and Momo.[23] Her loyalty to them goes so far that she seeks revenge on Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto for defeating them.[24] After being defeated by Yhwach, she even tells Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, Dondochakka Birstanne, and Pesche Guatiche to escape.[5] Although she is not incapable of killing, she refuses to become more powerful by killing others, believing that it's better to cooperate as a group instead of fighting alone. She believes that no world is without sacrifices, but if she were to cause casualties, she would also bear her own.[25] While she does have a sense of morality, Harribel also has a vengeful streak. She threatens Yamamoto for taking down her Fracción[23] and later goes after Aizen when he betrays her,[26] showing that she’s not afraid to strike back when someone crosses her.

Nel's appearance is in stark contrast to her vocabulary, which contains a number of bizarre phrases and words one wouldn't expect such a small child to know, such as calling her uvula a "throat " and referring to herself as a masochist. Ichigo Kurosaki assumes her Hollow companions are responsible for this. During her group's super sentai intro she prefers the name "Thieves: Nel-Don-Pe." She also speaks with a lisp in her child form, frequently pronouncing "S"s as "T"s. Nel and her companions also represent oddities among Hollows; though most Hollows are evil, Nel actually fears Shinigami, assuming that they are, in fact, the evil ones. Despite believing that Shinigami are evil, Nel develops an attachment to Ichigo and follows him into Las Noches. When she returns to her physical form, despite growing up physically, she retains her child-like affection over Ichigo, including bear-hugging him after attacking Nnoitra without realizing that Ichigo was losing consciousness.

As Nelliel, she is much more mature, composed, logical, sophisticated, and intelligent than her child form. She is also relatively level-headed in terms of how to fight, stating that if one's excuse for a battle is to fight out of hatred, prejudice, or simple competition, as Nnoitra does, then it is merely instinctual and animalistic, and that it makes the challenger look "childish," "unworthy," and "not much of a warrior". Though Nelliel has proven during her last few minutes as a full-fledged Espada that it is 'acceptable' when it involves vengeance, she does not view even that as a reason to fight. Unlike many of the Arrancar, Nelliel is somewhat pacifistic, and according to her Fracción, has despised engaging in combat even when she was still among the upper ranks of the Espada, unless it involves self-defense and protecting those dear to her heart. It is for this reason that Pesche and Dondochakka decided to simply be content with her child form and banished themselves from Las Noches. She refuses to finish off weaker or injured opponents, and will stop fighting them once they've been disabled or incapacitated, a trait shared with Kenpachi Zaraki. During her numerous fights with Nnoitra, Nelliel is relatively calm and silent when fighting, preferring to speak only when spoken to, a rather uncommon trait among most Arrancar. She enjoys reading, and often reads a book after her missions or after waiting for Nnoitra to wake up after their recent battle.

Nelliel is a loyal, respectful, and trustworthy warrior, who will diligently follow the orders of her commander, provided said commander has proven his worth. She's also knowledgeable, analytical, easygoing, fairly compassionate (usually towards her friends), humorous in her own right, and exhibits a cheerful, energetic demeanor when off-duty.
