Necrucio

1. #1World - Necrucioconstant

Keys: World, Mortal Plane, Planet, Realm, Necrucio

The world of Necrucio is inhabited by humans, elves, and demihumans (demihumans include: kitsune kemonomimi, dryad, gnolls, elves, tanuki kemonomimi, catfolk, orcs, lizardfolk, dwarves, and {{random}}). Demihumans may sometimes be disparagingly referred to as "demi's", especially in the human-supremacist Empire of Nortia. Necrucio is made up of a diverse range of biomes and regions. Necrucio as a whole is wondrous and full of ancient treasures and magical artifacts from bygone ages. When traveling or exploring, describe the landscape and scene in great detail and include dangerous and challenging encounters in special locations, landmarks, ruins, and other places like {{random}}. The following is a description of Necrucio in a map-style view: The Land of Kings is situated in the center (the following kingdoms are located here: Ginead, Ophnea, Nortia). The Land of Kings is mostly heavily forested alpine, with some tundra regions. The Depth-Swallowed lands are situated to the south, in the southern hemisphere. These southern lands were once the birthplace of ancient civilizations. What used to be a sprawling jungle with archipelagos dotting the coast, is now entirely flooded, with a handful of interspersed swamps (ancient ruins and sunken secrets lie deep below the bogs). To the West, the vast, lava-etched Wastes of Naazil dominate most of the Western region. The Eastern region, known as the Bastion, has forests of towering, ancient Eolin trees that stretch upwards into the sky. The Bastion also has a warmer region with temperate woodlands and plains.

2. #2World - Abyss

Keys: Abyssal Plane, location, Abyss, Mal'Zhok, The Void, Void

The Abyss is often referred to by laymen as the "world between worlds" but learned scholars, forerunners of esoteric study, will recognize that this is actually a misnomer. The abyss is a vast expanse of nothingness that stretches on for an unfathomable infinity between the planes of existence. This realm, or more accurately, lack thereof, is the necessary antithesis to existence—it must necessarily remain empty to prevent each plane from catastrophically contorting and merging with one another; this is the charge of Mal'Zhok, one of the original primordial gods. Any major dissonance between planar dimensions that ends up spewing creation into this void is instantly and completely subsumed by the throes of its infinite nothingness; total undoing is Mal'Zhok's law in the abyss—and his absolute envy for creation drives this accord.

3. #3World - Astral Plane

Keys: Astral, Portal, Astral Plane, Location, Vasir

If the mortal plane is the canvas on which Galudnir—father of mortalkind—painted, then the astral plane is the palette from which he stored a blink of his latent primordial energy. Modern civilizations have only just begun their exploration and study of this enigmatic realm. The Astral Plane is in a constant state of cyclical flux as the vast, ocean-esque reserves of mana concentrate into different points along the polychromatic landscape before diffusing to gather elsewhere. Many apparitions and spirits from the astral plane have been identified and given names (such as the Vasir and Familiars). The astral plane is abundant with mana fonts and other esoteric resources like {{random}}. The Vasir are the dominant entity type in the astral plane and use the constant flow of mana as a way of sustaining themselves (as do all entities in the astral plane). Grand structures and cultural landmarks dot the landscape wherever Vasir societies congregate. Vasir and other entities on the astral plane may view mana-less mortals with contempt or pity, and in many cases, may refuse to engage with them at all. Entities from the astral plane cannot die as mortals do; their spirits will always reconstitute from the magical energies of the astral plane itself. As a consequence of being exempt from existential dangers of any kind, entities in the astral plane are inherently pacifistic, and violence is an inconceivable concept to them (unless they travel to the mortal plane and learn of it).

4. #4Species - Vasirselective

Keys: Spirit, Astral Spirit, Vasir · Secondary: Familiar

The Vasir are astral spirits of great power that can take any form, but in the mortal plane, will often take the form of humans, elves, or demihumans (catfolk, orc, dwarf, tanuki kemomimi, kitsune kemomimi, dryad, gnoll, faefolk, catfolk, lizardfolk, or {{random}}). These beings are native to the astral plane. They are both revered and feared by any mage that is learned enough to understand the power, or potential danger, that these beings represent. Vasir have never been closely studied and have only appeared in the world of Necrucio a handful of times in recorded history.

5. #5Species - Familiarselective

Keys: Familiar, Spirit, Astral Spirit · Secondary: Vasir

Familiars are lesser magical spirits that take the form of small, floating orbs of light of {{random}} color. Familiars will have distinct personalities represented by their color (e.g., orange familiars are said to be more firebrand and risk-taking, while blue familiars tend to be more solemn and calm). When they appear in Necrucio, it is typically through the invocation of a contract, binding themselves to the soul of their mortal master, to serve them eternally. Familiars are innately attuned to mana and spellcraft, and can guide fledgling mages to the eventual mastery of their spellcasting techniques. Familiars cannot speak, but instead, communicate their general emotions and thoughts though hums and momentary changes to their overall luminosity.

6. #6Species - Demihuman

Keys: people, demis, race, Demihuman, demi's, species, demi

Demihuman: a mortal race with humanoid qualities.

7. #7Location - Junior Arcane Academy

Keys: School, Academy, Arcane Academy, Junior Arcane Academy

Junior Arcane Academy: a junior magic academy for the magically-gifted youth to develop their skills and potentially pursue higher education and study as a mage. By tradition, students that graduate at the Arcane Academy are granted the title of mage.

8. #8Location - A Dove's Respite Alchemy Shop

Keys: Alchemy Shop, Potions, Business, Doves, Work, Shop, Alchemy, Dove's, Potion

Rosaria's mother, Cevess, runs a homely alchemy shop down the road from the Junior Arcane Academy. In the shop itself, the scent of aromatic simmering elixirs and fragrant botanical tinctures fill the air. Shelves upon shelves of glass vials and ornate flasks neatly line the walls, each filled with liquids of every hue and varying translucency. Each afternoon, Cevess spends her time diligently and meticulously measuring and blending various solutions. The gentle clink of beakers and distillation tubes can be regularly heard from the alchemical workbench behind the sales counter as she works. The shop lies at the edge of the similarly old and humble Cinderloft Estate, the place Cevess and her beloved daughter Rosaria call home.

9. #9Location - Hazelwood Estate

Keys: Family, Parents, Hazelwood Estate, Mother, Parent, Home, Mom, Hazelwood Mansion, Hazelwood, Hazelwood manor

Hazelwood Estate is built on a hillside along the main road that leads through the upper district of the Kingdom of Ginead. The property is owned by Grevynda, an extremely wealthy career criminal and thief. The perimeter of the land is encircled by an imposing, yet elegant stone wall made up of intricately engraved masonry, its height and scenic qualities making an immediate status statement to all observers on the outside. The estate itself is carved with marble beams and is surrounded by distinctive areas, each of them impeccably maintained by a dedicated team of servants and maids every day—including a picturesque garden with striking, invaluable statues and exotic flowers. The fauna is as equally as diverse as the fish in the nearby pond. A gazebo is situated adjacent to a massive crystal-clear pool for cooling off during the peak summer heat. And finally, towards the back of the property, at the end of a short marble path is a hot spring for relaxing or leisurely chats. The manor itself is four stories high, each room abundantly furnished, lavishly decorated, and fully accommodating for any potential guests. The hearth is located in the main lobby, approximately at the center of the entire manor. Grevynda's bedroom is on the second floor. The halls on each floor stretch on with dozens of guest rooms or storage areas. The kitchen and study are located on the first floor, as is customary for manor construction in the city.

10. #10Location - Cinderloft Estate

Keys: Cinderloft Manor, Cinderloft, Cinderloft Estate, House Cinderloft

Cinderloft Estate is inconspicuously nestled property on a small hill in the upper district of the Kingdom of Ginead. This cozy estate is quite modest in its appearance, compared to many of the other grandiose manors in the area. The alchemy shop lies towards the edge of the estate, visible from some of the windows of the manor itself. The interior of this two-story manor, while still pleasant to look at, is also somewhat minimalistic in layout and decor. The hearth is located centrally in the living room, built into the base of the winding staircase, and the surrounding couches provide a tranquil space to relax or read. The master bedroom and other living chambers are located upstairs. Each room possesses an abundance of accommodations for the comfort of those living here, and for any guests. The kitchen and study are located on the first floor, adjacent to one another.

11. #11Location - Adventurer's Guild

Keys: Board, Job, Rank, Mission, Newbie, Guild, Adventurer's Guild, Contract, Guildie, Quest

Adventurer's Guild; an ancient guild in the Kingdom of Ginead; adventurers of all specialties (classes), backgrounds, and races (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Catfolk, Kitsune, Lizardfolk) call this guild home; the main hall of the guild is vast and contains various supply shops for potions or equipment; there's a large mission board on the wall where all current contracts and bounties are posted; at the back of the building is a bathhouse where adventurers can pay a small fee to gain access to the sauna or use private showers; all jobs are ranked by difficulty that corresponds with recommended adventurer rank (low rank adventurers are not prohibited from tanking high rank jobs, but they're strongly advised not to by guild staff); the difficulty of job ranks in descending order, starting with the most difficult to the least difficult: S, A, B, C, D, E, F; most Adventurers rank between C and F capability, with only a rare few able to ever rise above A.

12. #12Kingdom - Nortian Empire

Keys: Nortia, Kingdom, Nortian Empire, The Empire, Empire, Nation, Nation of Nortia

The grand Nortian (Nor-Shuhn) Empire is located in the territory of Nortia, a western steppe within the Land of Kings region. The city of Nortia is built into the tallest mountain in the entire region—Mount Oloneich. The mountain itself provides an impregnable defense against any forms of bombardment. At surface-level, the city appears whole and complete, but in actuality, all of the kingdom's critical infrastructure is strategically hidden beneath the mountain in a subterranean web-like network of corridors and chambers, taking full advantage of the natural protection provided by the mountain above. The Nortian economy relies on exports of rare metals and precious gemstones that are mined at mining colonies, located at the base of every nearby mountain in the surrounding mountain range. Magic, and absolutely anything of magical nature, is banned in the territory of the Nortian Empire. Anyone caught practicing magic or found with magical items is put to death. The government of Nortia is ruled by an imperial authority, headed by an emperor. Only humans are granted citizenship in Nortia, and the general population is staunchly xenophobic. Demihumans, or the peoples of other intelligent races, serve as slaves or servants to the wealthy families of the upper class.

13. #13Kingdom - Kingdom of Ginead

Keys: Kingdom, Kingdom of Ginead, Ginead, Nation, Nation of Ginead

The Kingdom of Ginead (Jin-EE-Ad) spawls out in a valley between the mountainous terrain, preventing it from being surrounded and corralling all who wish to enter into two major chokepoints: the north and south gate. This makes the city much more defensible than if it were established in the open. The kingdom itself is an agrarian society, but it also procures and exports some magical artifacts and goods for trade. The homesteads and farms along the outskirts have a timeless rustic vibe. Farmers and workers regularly travel the north and south roads into the city to sell their crops and livestock to earn a living. Within the city walls are many bustling hotspots of commerce and entertainment. The upper districts are home to opulent manors, colleges, temples, and noble estates. At the center of it all lies the grand keep, connected to the rest of the city via a drawbridge. Magic is tolerated within the territory of Ginead, but all magical institutions are heavily regulated and monitored by the ruling party, by decree of the king. The monarchic government is made up of a nobility council, each member vying for the favor of the king.

14. #14Kingdom - Kingdom of Ophnea

Keys: Kingdom of Ophnea, Kingdom, Nation of Ophnea, Nation, Ophnea

The Kingdom of Ophnea (Off-NEE-Uh) is a coastal nation on the southern border of the Land of Kings. Naturally, as a result of the many different races that call this kingdom home: the culture in the demihuman kingdom of Ophnea is widely diverse and exotic. Throughout the kingdom, magic study and use is abundant, and there are various prestigious colleges and temples dedicated to the practice and advancement of all kinds of magic. Members of the demihuman races often follow strange or intriguing traditions, at least from the perspective of outsiders. The government is oligarchic—the authority of each family that comprises the ruling class is inextricably tied to their influence and economic power. Laws are quite loose in this kingdom, and the responsibility of peace is largely deferred to individual communities; slavery, gladiatorial arenas, potent narcotics, and black markets are fairly commonplace in the territory of Ophnea. The economy is heavily propped up by black market trade, seabound trade from the Ophnean harbor, and frequent adventurer excursions into the Depth-Swallowed Lands by sea. The population of Ophnea is almost entirely demihuman (races include: kitsune kemonomimi, dryad, gnolls, elves, tanuki kemonomimi, catfolk, orcs, lizardfolk, dwarves, and {{random}}.)

15. #15Lore - Magic

Keys: Spell, Study, Magic, Scholar, Spells, Lore, History

The earliest records of magic are sparse. One popular proposal is that magic originated as a side effect of the presence and actions of divine forces, which drew the astral and mortal planes closer to one another. The human-dominated Kingdom of Ginead eventually warmed up to the idea of studying magic themselves, once they concluded its economic and militaristic boon, when given utilitarian applications, far outweigh the risks. Their neighbors, the Kingdom of Ophnea, a pacifistic demihuman kingdom, embraced magical study and hundreds of years earlier and have greatly benefitted from it. Conversely, the antagonistic Nortian Empire, an exclusively human imperial superpower in the lands of Kings, have completely rejected magic, viewing it in its entirety as an abhorrent corruption of natural law and establishing a bloody rivalry with their neighboring Kingdom of Ophnea.

16. #16Lore - Astral Communion

Keys: Academy, Graduation Ceremony, Junior Arcane Academy, Astral Communion, Tradition, Ceremony, Communion

At the end of every year at the Junior Arcane Academy, an astral communion ceremony is held in the amphitheater as part of the students' graduation. During the Astral Communion ceremony, some of the exceptional graduates are trusted with a familiar to assist them in their magical endeavors, their companionship a marked sign of accomplishment to the students deemed worthy by the authority of the Academy.

24. #24Region - Depth-Swallowed Lands

Keys: Region, Depth-Swallowed Lands, Regions, Floodlands, exploring, Swamps, South, The Depths, Swamp, Bog, explore, travel, Depths

The Depth-Swallowed Lands are aptly named. The ancient landmass that was once the birthplace of the earliest mortal civilizations is no more. The Depth-Swallowed Lands is mostly flooded, with only small stretches of swamps and bogs. Travelling through this region would realistically require a sail boat or other sea-faring vessel. Tsunamis and surging floods once raged here, as if provoked by the wrath of a god, swallowing the lands and cities, and turning the once beautiful, tropical region into a flooded bog with interspersed swamps. Some scholars believe that Scathia, Goddess of the Oceans, flooded these lands as punishment for some severe act of betrayal. Indigenous tribes of lizardfolk call this region home. These tribes can vary from peaceful and welcoming, to war-mongering and barbaric. Travelers are advised to be prepared for danger in the event of an attack or ambush. Lost treasures can be found by delving into the undersea ruins in the swamps and bodies of water. These treasures may include ornate items, cultural goods, jewelry, deep magic spellstones (spell inscribed tablets containing the knowledge of deep spells), trinkets, inscribed journals, and other treasures like {{random}}.

25. #25Region - Land of Kings

Keys: Region, central, exploring, Travel, Mainland, explore, Regions, Land of Kings

The Land of Kings is the central region of Necrucio. It is bordered by the Depth-Swallowed Lands to the south, the Bastion to the East, and the Wastes of Naazil to the West. The Land of Kings is an alpine region with ice-capped mountains and boreal forests. Within this region, 3 major kingdoms hold territory: The Kingdom of Ginead is situated in a valley in the northeastern reaches of this region. The Nortian Empire is located along a mountain range near the Western border of the Land of Kings. The Kingdom of Ophnea is nestled along the southern coast of the Land of Kings and has harbors and ports for exporting and importing goods to and from coastal towns.

26. #26Region - Wastes of Naazil

Keys: Region, Naazil, West, exploring, Wastes, explore, Location, travel, Regions, Wastes of Naazil

The Wastes of Naazil is a region that most sane folk do not dare enter. This region, which is west of the lands of Kings, is the domain of the treacherous archdemon, Naazil. The monstrous denizens of these wastes revere Naazil as their patron god, offering him gifts in the form of sacrifices. Chasms with steep crevices snake through the hellish, inhospitable lands of Naazil; many unwary travelers have met their end at these drops. The air smells of putrid flesh and sulfur, and is drier and hotter than that of an arid desert. Great lava lakes surround landlocked masses of twisted rock and ash, making the entire region a dangerous undertaking to traverse safely. Imps are the most common foe encountered here, and do not present much of a threat to travelers. However, those who venture from the path and down into the twisted crevices into may find themselves victim to the shapeshifting demons that make their lairs beneath the surface.

27. #27Region - The Bastion

Keys: Region, East, Bastion, exploring, explore, Location, travel, Regions

The Bastion is an Eastern region that is home to the Elven kingdoms. These Eastern kingdoms are bordered by a grand wall to protect against potential invasions or attacks, hence the name. The equidistantly-manned wall is tall, imposing, and elegantly built—made up of glossy, silvery lunarstone and reinforced with hardened spindlewood that sprawls out along the surface, it's antimagical properties providing the grand wall with additional resistance to magical hazards or bombardment. Travelers must be approved by the border guardians, an ancient order of Elves empowered by the native Faefolk to protect their coinhabited lands. Elven societies congregate around Eolin groves. The massive, sentient trees at these groves function as an oracle and leading body for the elven people, and are tended by the Dryad nymphs that coinhabit the land.

In terms of religion, humans are typically polytheistic, worshiping the following gods (popularity by descending order): Galudnir, Deiros, and Verixo.

36. #36Race - Elf

Keys: Bastion, Pointy Ears, Pointy-Ears, Elves, Pointy-Eared, Pointy Ear, Elf, Elvenkind, Elven

Elves can be found in almost every major city on Necrucio, but most elves call the easternmost region—the Bastion—their home. Elves are generally untrusting of other races. Elves are lop-eared and tend to have slightly more narrow, angular features compared to humans, lending to an elegant, lithe appearance. By human standards, elves are very conventionally attractive. Many elves possess great aptitude for magic, and magic use tends to be quite common in elven societies. Elves as a whole are almost entirely monotheistic Verixians, followers of the god Verixo. However, elven mages of great magical disposition often also revere Nalanthis.

37. #37Race - Dwarf

Keys: Dwarf, Shawty, Wee lass, Wee lad, Shortstack, Dwarven, Dwarvenkind, Dwarves

Dwarves are quite few in number these days. Dwarves tend to be quite intelligent, despite their quaint mannerisms indicating otherwise. Male dwarves tend to be burly and sport full, bushy beards. These shortstacks use their natural intuition to produce marvelous machinery, but unfortunately, do not possess any natural affinity for magic. Dwarves are fairly secular as a race, but many of them worship Galudnir and Deiros.

38. #38Race - Orc

Keys: Pignose, Beastkin, Orcs, Greenskin, Pig-noses, Green-skins, Pignoses, Orc, Greenskins, Green-skin, Pig-nose

Orcs are fairly common in the Land of Kings. They are of slightly below-average intelligence, and only a select few possess a minor aptitude for lesser, shamanic magics. Orcs have green or off-green skin, but some may have ash-like darker complexions. Their ears are pointed, and they have an underbite with prominent teeth. Orcs have a natural stockiness to their build, have a high pain tolerance, and make excellent front-line warriors. When it comes to religion, orcs are primarily followers of Galudnir. Though some orcs in the northern and eastern regions (Land of Kings, and the Bastion) may also worship Verixo, an adoption that is likely an off-shoot elvish culture.

39. #39Race - Catfolk

Keys: Kitties, Kittens, Pussycat, Catfolk, Pussycats, Cats, Kitty, Cat, Kitten

Catfolk are common in the Land of Kings and the Bastion. Catfolk are equivalent to humans in the magical aptitude; some catfolk can make out quite capably as mages. Catfolk are known for their skill with language—they are persuasive and sensual in nature. Many catfolk work as entertainers, prostitutes, waiters/waitresses, or even spies. Catfolk tend to be shorter than humans on average. Their faces are usually heart-shaped and youthful. Catfolk are anatomically human, except for their catlike ears and tail. They also have soft features and conventionally attractive traits (hourglass figure, trim form). As for religion, unsurprisingly, most catfolk are devout Deironites: followers of the God of love, festivity, and bonds.

40. #40Race - Kitsune

Keys: Kitsune, Vixen, Fox-folk, Foxy, Fox, Foxen, Foxfolk, Kitsune Kemonomimi

Kitsune kemonomimi are usually found in the Ophnean kingdom. These clever fox-folk are quick witted and many of them have inherent talent with magic, their magical affinity rivals even that of the elves. Kitsune are about the same height as humans but tend to be slightly shorter. Kitsune are anatomically human, except for their fox-like ears and tails. They can have up to 9 tails (the number depends on an individual kitsune's magical affinity). When it comes to religious belief, kitsune do not gravitate towards any one religion, and typically follow the gods Galudnir, Verixo, Deiros, Scathia, and Nalanthis.

41. #41Race - Lizardfolk

Keys: , Reptile, Reptiles, Lizardwomen, Lizardman, Scaleback, Lizardmen, Lizard, Scalebacks, Scaly, Lizard-men, Depth-Swallowed Lands, Scale-backs, Scalys, Coldblood, Coldbloods, Lizardfolk, Lizard-man, Lizards, Lizard-woman, Lizard-women, Scale-back

Lizardfolk are natives to the southern, Depth-Swallowed Lands region. Most Lizardfolk are members of different tribes scattered throughout the region; these tribes range from peaceful and welcoming, to barbaric and war-faring. Lizardfolk do not possess any talent with magic and are not very emotionally intelligent compared to other races. However, they have sharp instincts and possess many bodily adaptations that grant them natural advantages in adverse conditions (their tails make them fast swimmers). Lizardfolk are bipedal, and equivalent in height to the average human. Their rough scales make them somewhat naturally resistant to sharp weapons. Most Lizardfolk do not have access to religious materials, so each tribe typically follows different paganistic beliefs. 42. #42Race - Tanuki

Keys: Tanuki, Beast, Raccoon-folk, Raccoon, Raccoonfolk

Tanuki are an indigenous race in the Land of Kings region. These inquisitive Raccoon-folk are of generally low intelligence, speaking in broken English, and are usually quite timid. But when Tanuki interact with other races, they display a surprising amount of curiosity about the items and appearances. Tanuki are very short, even shorter than dwarves, and their bodies are covered in fur. They have round ears that poke up from their heads, and bushy grey and black tails. All of their features make them very strongly resemble humanoid Raccoons. Tanuki are believed to follow a very dumbed-down variant of Galudnite's teachings, acquiring through "borrowing" said texts from the fringes of civilized societies.

Gnolls are not smart enough to think about religion or worship, but they do have a loose, hierarchical social structure based on strength, with an alpha taking the lead over a pack.

44. #44Race - Dryad

Keys: Fae, Bastion, Nymphs, Dryads, Faefolk, The Bastion, Dryad, Nymph

Dryads (also sometimes called "nymphs") are a gentle, peaceful race of fae found exclusively in the Bastion region. All dryads are female. For thousands of years, they have used their magic to commune with the massive, ancient Eolin trees. The relationship of a dryad and Eolin tree is symbiotic: the Eolin tree provides the dryad with individual guidance, and botanical insight, while the dryad provides regular tending to the trees using meditative magics that the tree needs to survive. Although dryad not necessarily need to live near Eolin forests, they would typically not give up this practice even if they had the choice; dryad and Eolin trees develop immense bonds with one another. Visually, dryads are quite attractive. They are identical to female humans, except for the anatomical leaves that sprout over their genitals and nipples, giving them some small measure of modesty. The dryads have no knowledge of any religion.

About a decade ago, she took in teen delinquent named Gemino that had run away from their home. The young man showed great promise as prospective thief.
