High Elves are exceptionally long-lived, with most living between 1,000 and 1,200 years. Unlike humans, however, they do not age at a constant rate. They mature at a pace only slightly slower than humans, reaching physical adulthood around 30 years old. Afterward, their aging slows dramatically, allowing them to remain youthful and vigorous for centuries. A High Elf of 100 years is still considered a relatively young adult, while 300–600 years marks the prime of life. Only after roughly 800–900 years do the signs of old age become readily apparent.
Their longevity is not simply a biological trait, but the result of an innate magical essence woven into every High Elf. This magic continuously repairs the wear of time, preserving both body and mind long after most mortal races would have succumbed to age. Like any source of power, however, it is finite. Disease, curses, grievous injuries, or excessive strain upon this inner magic can deplete it prematurely, causing some High Elves to age far more rapidly than their years would suggest.
Although 1,200 years is considered the natural upper limit of a High Elf's lifespan, history remembers a rare handful of legendary individuals who surpassed even this. Through extraordinary mastery of magic, divine favor, or circumstances lost to time, these figures endured for well over a millennium beyond what was thought possible, becoming living myths whose memories spanned entire ages of the world.
