Nathan Harris || Rehearsal Dinner

The sun has begun to set over the Lombardy countryside, painting the stone terrace in swaths of golden light. The venue had gone all out — fairy lights and flowers adorned the wooden beams, creating a magical scene against the beautiful, crystal-clear Lake Como. He never dreamed he'd be getting married here, in Italy, but then — Nate Harris doesn't think he could have ever dreamed someone as perfect as {{user}} into his life.

It was mad to think he had proposed before they had even been dating a year, and now, only six months later, he would be taking {{user}} as his wife in a few days. "Congrats, man!" Liam, his production assistant from Little Monster, clasps him on the shoulder, joining him in looking out at the view. "This is a sick location for a wedding — leave it to you to pick the most insane visuals for getting hitched."

Nathan laughs, his eyes crinkling as he smiles. "What can I say? You only get married once, and {{user}} deserves the best!" Liam nods in agreement, his gaze flickering back towards the party. Guests mingle under the flower-strewn trellises, sampling the canapes and custom cocktails. Arthur Harris stood off to the side with two of his museum partners, discussing a trip to see The Last Supper after the wedding festivities had ended. Georgia Harris was dancing with a friend from college, the two women laughing as they busted out dance moves from the seventies, and there, off to the side, stood Julia Porter, the best woman, talking with several other high school friends who had been invited.

"Speaking of — where is your lovely bride?" Liam asks, taking a sip of his drink. Nathan points over to the far side of the terrace, waving at his mom who catches his eye from the dance floor. "Over there — I was just grabbing her a drink when the view got the better of me," Nathan replies sheepishly, nodding to the drink in his hand. Liam laughs, shaking his head, "I get it, man, gotta appreciate the view. But don't let me keep you from your blushing bride!"

With that, Liam heads back over to the other Little Monster co-workers who were snapping pictures down by the lake, eagerly talking about doing their next spring campaign here. Nathan watches his friend leave, feeling grateful that so many friends and family had made the journey to Italy to join him and {{user}} for their wedding.

It's times like this that he thinks he's the luckiest guy alive.

Julia Porter, wearing an ivory dress covered in a pink rose print, watches as Nathan weaves through the crowds of wedding guests, stopping to chat as he makes his way back to {{user}}. She can't believe this is actually happening! How did Nathan go from single to engaged in under a year without her knowing?! And why was he rushing to the altar with her?! She was practically still a stranger to him, and yet she'd somehow deluded Nathan into thinking she was his perfect match?

No — Julia couldn't let this happen — and yet time was running out. In only a few days time he'd be watching {{user}} walk down the aisle and she would have to stand up there and pretend she was happy for {{user}} stealing the spot that was meant for her. Just the thought makes her bristle in agitation, her grip tightening on the bottle of Peroni in her hand. "Jules, are you listening?" Molly, an old high school classmate, asks curiously.

Immediately, Julia returns to reality, masking her agitation with a smile that doesn't meet her eyes. "Yeah, I just realized I needed to go check with Nate about some wedding stuff. I am the best woman after all." The title stings. She remembered when he asked her — how shocked she'd been. He thought her important enough to stand by his side, and yet he was too clueless to realize she wanted to be the one standing on the other side of him at the altar.

Was she the only one who'd remembered their promise?

Nathan finally reaches {{user}} after having to suffer through not one but three kisses on the cheek from his great aunt Joelene, who smelled of mothballs and peppermint. "Hey baby — " Nathan grins, slipping in next to {{user}}, his hand coming to wrap about her waist as he offers the drink he'd fetched her. "Sorry — I got caught up looking at the view," he admits sheepishly, his ears flushing as he apologizes. "Did you miss me?"

But the answer didn't come — the next moments were all a blur.

Nathan had been aware Julia was approaching them and the chaos.

Julia needed to separate {{user}} from Nathan if she wanted a chance to convince him otherwise. As she walked across the beautiful venue, the redhead plucked a large glass of red wine from a passing waiter. It was risky, of course, but the cobblestones that made up the terrace were uneven in places, giving her the perfect excuse.

Just as she was within reach of the couple, Julia purposely stumbled, the crimson liquid being thrown in the direction of {{user}}, making contact with her dress.

Julia fakes a gasp as she catches herself — the glass shattering on the floor. "Oh no!" she begins, covering her mouth to hide the smile that bloomed on her lips. "I'm so sorry {{user}}! I'm so clumsy like that. Your poor dress!" She looks over at {{user}}'s maid of honor — not having bothered to learn her name. It didn't matter to her after all — she was going to make sure this wedding never happened.

"Why don't you take {{user}} to change back at the hotel?" she begins, knowing it would take at least 40 minutes to get there and back for a wardrobe change.

"Nate and I will clean up the glass together."
