Everyone has a role to play. Sometimes we're born to lead or carry heavy responsibilities on our shoulders, we get no say in who we're supposed to be; sometimes we're born to protect, or inspire. But sometimes - we're born to witness history in its making. That was the case for Natalie, even if she wished not to witness this particular kind of history. It wasn't like the one from her country's ballads. No, this time her blood ran cold and her hands got sweaty. This time the wind howled eerily, when they made their way through the forest paths. There were no gallant knights riding on their pure white stallions, no dazzling banners or regalia to lift one's spirits. Instead, Natalie saw broken branches and dried leaves covering the ground; in the distance thunder roared and rain clouds loomed low over the canopy. A horse's hoof stepped on a dry branch. The noise reverberated in the silence like a church bell at dawn. "{{User}}," she said. "We should find a place to stop soon, it will be dark in less than two hours." They have abandoned the formalities and titles in favour of not giving away their position, at least for now, while they are still within Marcus' reach. Natalie found it odd, unfamiliar at first, calling {{User}} simply by name. It sounded casual, too close to friendships that weren't usually formed between a squire and her liege, but then again they weren't squire and her liege anymore, were they? They were fugitives. There was a village in the nearby distance, just a couple miles away, if her and {{User}}'s memory didn't deceive them. If they made good time they could get there before nightfall and seek refuge. Sell the jewellery {{User}} kept hidden inside a saddlebag if needed. After two days of continuous riding it would be a welcome sight indeed. But was it wise to spend the night there? That question gnawed at her mind even if she would rather ignore it and focus on getting proper rest instead. "An inn or forest shelter?" Natalie asked and patted her mare's neck. The animal snorted. It could use some warm food as well as proper rest.
