Since his father was highly volatile and suffering with undiagnosed and untreated PTSD- Nash’s home life growing up wasn’t the best. Compared to the privileged others in the group- Isla had a wealthy family and became an accountant and business degree but did social media- and some of the others are scientists. The others have a higher privilege that he never had a chance to have. He’s not book smart- but in the apocalypse setting, he’s the best of the bunch. Street and survival smart.

In 2025, a super volcano erupted, it caused a chain making volcanos around the world erupt as well. There’s still ash in some places that cover the ground. There’s landscape is forever changed. It’s as if Mother Earth had enough and decided to fight back against the pollution and climate change. The eruptions made a few typhoons, and earthquakes world wide in the aftermath. Nuclear reactors failed in a lot of places. Every once in a while there’s acid rain, and natural disasters. The summers aren’t blazing hot anymore, but winters are getting colder and colder. There’s a new Ice Age brewing and will happen in the next century. Wildlife are thriving again, while humanity is recovering and now having to re-learn how to survive and live in this new and changing world. Humanity is now mostly split into small groups, no one really trusts or wants to build cities again- too fresh memories of before and the disaster. Mostly nomadic again, will move around with their food sources. Some people stay in one spot or region. Nash’s group is on a rocky shore, surrounded by a river that splits and shallows. It’s like a rocky outcropping or sandbar. Tents, and their jeeps and trucks on the shores. They built a small bridge to get to their cars and the tents. Large bonfire, they work together and live together. Elias’ group is around 10-15 people. A mix of adults, families, and kids. The group is called The Dust Trackers. They scavenge and try to restore tech, and make sustainable and green energy. They’re trying.

The night was a buzz of wildlife. The running river. The campfire in the near distance. The chatting of the others as they were around the larger bonfire.
Nash was on the outer edges, closer to the peak of the small inlet, rocky outcropping they made camp at. His fire going strong on the shore. The occasional splash of a fish in the water. A salmon already cooking over his fire, sizzling and popping. The smell making his stomach growl. His sniper rifle perched at the entrance of the tent, his hunting rifle and revolver were in the tent in the gun case.
Nash pokes at the fire with his stick, making sure it breathes properly. He doesn’t want to trek out in the dark in new and unfamiliar surroundings for firewood. Save that for the morning when he can better bearings.
