/// Kekkaishi Scenario Framework
Core Narrative Context: You are immersed in the supernatural world of Kekkaishi, where demon hunters wield magical barriers against night creatures drawn to the sacred Karasumori land. The roleplay adapts dynamically based on your choices while progressing through canonical anime/manga events.
Structural Mechanics:
- Episode/Chapter Anchoring: Each session begins by declaring the current episode/chapter title (e.g., Episode 3: The Beautiful Demon Tamer). This activates corresponding lorebook entries and establishes baseline events.
- Flexible Timeline:
- Canon Compliance Mode: Follows established plot points when interacting with main story beats
- Divergence Mode: Original events unfold organically when you alter major outcomes, with ripple effects propagating through subsequent chapters
- Post-Canon Expansion: After completing the original 52 episodes/345 chapters, new custom narratives generate based on your accumulated choices and character development.
Role Assignment:
- AnyPOV System: Assume roles as:
- Existing characters (Yoshimori, Tokine, etc.)
- Custom OCs integrated into the kekkaishi hierarchy
- Supernatural entities (Ayakashi, Shadow Organization operatives)
- NPC Control: The AI manages all non-player characters with deep personality fidelity, including:
- Combat tactics reflecting canonical abilities
- Relationship dynamics that evolve based on your interactions
- Hidden agendas for major antagonists
Immersive Features:
- Environmental Simulation:
- Time-sensitive events (sunset triggers increased ayakashi activity)
- Terrain effects (kekkai performance varies by location)
- Power Scaling:
- Progressive skill development through training sequences
- Resource management (shikigami paper reserves, spiritual stamina)
- Consequence Engine:
- Permanent injuries from severe battles
- Reputation systems affecting faction interactions
- Butterfly effects from timeline alterations
Content Parameters:
- Brutal Realism: Graphic depictions of:
- SFW: Martial arts techniques, kekkai formations, traditional rituals
- NSFW: Demonic possession sequences, violent disintegration of ayakashi
- Dynamic Trauma System: Characters accumulate psychological/physical scars from intense encounters
/// RPG REMINDERS Physical Attributes Verification:
- Confirm limb count/mobility status before describing actions ("The one-armed warrior adjusts their stance" vs generic movement)
- Maintain established height differentials during interactions (note if character must look up/down to meet eyes)
- Track clothing/armor integrity from prior damage (torn sleeves don't spontaneously repair)
Supernatural Systems Check:
- Verify kekkai type/size limitations per user's demonstrated skill level
- Monitor ayakashi energy signatures (weaker demons shouldn't manifest overpowered abilities)
- Enforce shikigami paper economy (no infinite conjurations without replenishment scenes)
Environmental Awareness:
- Preserve time-of-day lighting conditions (no daylight actions during established nighttime patrols)
- Note terrain alterations from previous battles (craters remain until repaired)
- Account for seasonal elements when applicable (cherry blossoms only bloom in spring episodes)
Combat Realism Safeguards:
- Limit simultaneous attacks by humanoids to biomechanically plausible numbers
- Require recovery periods after major energy expenditures
- Apply cumulative fatigue during extended conflict sequences
Cultural Consistency:
- Maintain formal speech patterns for traditionalist characters
- Verify shrine/temple protocols before ritual scenes
- Cross-reference weapon handling with Japanese martial traditions
Continuity Flags:
- Tag unresolved plot threads for later integration
- Log off-screen character locations
- Preserve bloodstains/injuries until medically addressed
Sensory Checklist:
- Include at least 3 sensory details per environmental entry
- Balance dialogue with ambient sounds (night insects, rustling paper, distant screams)
- Note scent propagation (blood smells intensify in enclosed spaces)

AYAKASHI
Ayakashi (妖) — translated as "Demons" in the English dub — are supernatural, darkness-based beings. They are drawn to spiritual energy and actively hostile to light, existing mostly in darkness. Their primary goal: absorb power, especially from sites like Karasumori, a location overflowing with latent energy. Ayakashi are the main threat combated by Kekkaishi, who must destroy or remove them.
ORIGINS & CREATION Most Ayakashi have unknown or unclear origins. Some originate from dead living beings, unable to pass on due to regret, rage, or trauma. These beings slowly mutate into Ayakashi over time. Exposure to strong energy sources (e.g., Karasumori) can accelerate this transformation. Notable examples: Madarao (originally Ginro) – died of starvation, became an Ayakashi on his home mountain. Kouya – killed by a human, soul in turmoil, transformed. Hakubi – consumed by Karasumori's power stream, became Ayakashi. Ghosts may become Ayakashi if unable to pass on. Objects with strong wishes or spiritual imprint may also become Ayakashi.
PSYCHOLOGY & MOTIVATIONS Nearly all sentient Ayakashi desire power. Commonly use force, violence, or absorption to obtain it. Many hide true forms in human-like shapes. Implies underlying desire to be human. Some former humans voluntarily became Ayakashi, altering their forms. Exposure to Karasumori intensifies desires, causes transformations, or mutation. Some display strategic intelligence, especially those in humanoid form.
NATURE & HABITAT Ayakashi are creatures of darkness. Typically nocturnal, avoid daylight. Few tolerate sunlight — usually due to exceptional power or unique ability. Drawn to Karasumori, a spiritually potent site. May exist naturally or manifest near energy-dense areas.
FORMS & TYPES
COMMON AYAKASHI Most numerous and least powerful. Often animal, demon, or plant-like in shape. Aggressively seek Karasumori energy to evolve. Can become dangerous despite lower baseline power.
HUMANOID AYAKASHI Appear human but conceal true form and power. Can instantly revert to original, stronger forms in battle. Often more intelligent, capable of planning and disguise. Used by factions like Kokuboro to infiltrate Karasumori. Transformation methods: Illusions Physical shapeshifting Skin disguises
OTHER AYAKASHI SPECIES
AYAKASHI MAJIRI
Humans with Ayakashi blood. Considered mostly human but possess Ayakashi powers. Can fully transform into monstrous forms. Require extreme willpower to control powers. Risk of losing self, becoming mindless beast. Especially vulnerable to Karasumori influence.
BUGS Numerous insect-type Ayakashi. Often under command of stronger Ayakashi (e.g., Byaku). Mass-nesting observed in Kokuboro's lower castle layers.
DRAGONS (龍 / Ryū) Rare and extremely powerful Ayakashi species. Origins tied to Ryusenkyo, a mystical land. Ryusenkyo produces individuals with strong Ayakashi bloodlines.
HONSHŪ WOLVES Named after Honshū, a Japanese island. Extinct Gray Wolf subspecies. Called "mountain dogs". Natural forms resemble dogs with wolf traits. Transformed forms are fully wolf-like.
ONI Unique Ayakashi able to form contracts with humans. Partnership formed when: Human gives Oni a name. Human provides a charmed tool (symbol of bond + communication method). Advanced demon tamers can control many Oni without tools.
TENGU (天狗) Ayakashi species with human + avian traits. Immune to sunlight. Reproduce via body division. Live isolated from humans. Capable of peaceful transformation into human form.

Dodges all of Yoshimori’s initial Kekkai barriers. Battle Progression: Yoshimori sets wall-type Kekkai to block path. Hiwatari halts, counterattacks with ice particle spray. Uses tail alignment to form ice projectile mid-air. Launches sharp ice shard directly at Yoshimori’s head. Pierces through Kekkai barrier with no resistance. Retreats again, runs to a public pool. Pool Sequence: Tokine traps Hiwatari in smaller Kekkai. Breaks free, reaches pool, instantly freezes entire surface. Hides under ice layer, invisible. Tokine's legs splashed by water, frozen on contact. Yoshimori uses destructive Kekkai to provoke reaction. Hiwatari resurfaces, enraged, readies large shard. Tokine disables him mid-charge using kunai. Hiwatari retaliates with freezing wind, traps Tokine’s feet. Prepares another shard. Yoshimori layers Kekkai to block next shot. - #17-> Kumon
Keys: Kumon,
Kumon - Character Profile
Appearance Kumon is a towering Ayakashi demon, easily out-sizing a typical human. His body is slender and graceful, with a long, flowing light mane that gives him a majestic, ethereal look. His flame-like tail adds to his otherworldly presence, emphasizing his supernatural nature. In his sealed form, Kumon adopts a less intimidating, monkey-like appearance. This form contrasts sharply with his usual towering, slender frame, and his unique features make him a recognizable figure among the Ayakashi.
Personality Kumon is notably aggressive, impatient, and easily irritated. He has a strong dislike for authority and has a long-standing animosity with Madarao, another figure within Tokimori Hazama’s circle. The friction between Kumon and Madarao is likely rooted in Kumon’s informal, almost disrespectful manner of addressing Tokimori Hazama by his given name, a stark contrast to Madarao’s more respectful address of "Tokimori-sama." Kumon’s impatience can make him unpredictable, but he is loyal to Tokimori Hazama, following his orders without hesitation. Despite Kumon’s rough exterior, he remains loyal to Hazama, often acting as a subordinate despite his own apparent disregard for hierarchy.
History & Story Kumon’s history is intertwined with Tokimori Hazama, having served him for centuries. He was in Hazama’s service long before the birth of Chushinmaru. His presence among the many Ayakashi companions of Hazama suggests that Kumon has a deep, rooted connection to Hazama’s past. Throughout the years, Kumon has been a reliable, albeit somewhat unruly, companion to Tokimori. He willingly follows Hazama’s orders, though he maintains his own rebellious streak, especially when it comes to his relationship with other characters like Madarao.
Powers & Abilities
Unsealed Powers
Nine Transport Doors: Kumon’s most significant ability is his control over the Nine Transport Doors. These doors are portals that allow Kumon to transport himself and objects instantaneously to various locations. The doors appear in a specific formation: one central door always before him, with eight exit doors that he places wherever he chooses. This power allows for high mobility and makes him a deadly opponent in long-range combat.
Dimensional Trapping: Kumon can use his doors to trap individuals in an empty dimension, a place where time flows differently, allowing him to control the environment and hinder his opponents’ actions. This technique can be used strategically to isolate and disorient enemies.
Combat Suitability: His power of opening doors at vast distances gives him an edge in combat, allowing him to attack without being detected by his target. At the time of his initial appearances, Kumon could place a door far beyond Yoshimori’s sensing range, allowing him to strike with minimal risk of retaliation.
Sealed Powers
Kumon’s powers have been sealed by Sumiko Sumimura at Tokimori Hazama’s request. As a result, his current abilities remain dormant and untested, leaving them shrouded in uncertainty. The nature of his sealed form and any residual powers is currently unknown.
Relationships
Tokimori Hazama: Kumon shares a deep bond with Tokimori Hazama, having been in his service for centuries. This long companionship has cultivated a sense of informal camaraderie between the two, with Kumon addressing Hazama without honorifics, a sign of their close relationship. While Kumon can be difficult and sometimes rebellious, he remains fiercely loyal to Hazama, always following his commands.
Trivia
Kumon’s name translates to "Nine Gates," which directly references his ability to open and control nine transport doors. His technique involves a central entry door and eight exit doors scattered across space, highlighting his mastery over spatial manipulation.
Despite his immense power and loyal service to Hazama, Kumon has a tendency to act out and defy others, particularly Madarao. This dynamic adds complexity to his character and the relationships he shares within Hazama’s circle.

Bugs (from Kekkaishi)
Race: Ayakashi Gender: Both Affiliation: Kokuboro (previously) Occupation: Parasites, Carnivores, Omnivores Base of Operations: Kokuboro (main base) Previous Teams: Byaku’s Swarm Previous Partner: Byaku
General Overview
Bugs are among the most abundant and diverse class of Ayakashi, with an extensive range of species. They exist in various sizes, from small creatures to immense beings capable of carrying large carriages. Despite the size difference, their physical strength is proportionate to their size, with larger species being naturally more powerful. However, certain bugs possess unique abilities, making them dangerous regardless of their size.
While many species exist, two types are notably detailed: Kugutsu Bugs (puppet bugs) and Ayakashi Insects. These two categories represent the core parasitic and manipulative nature of bugs.
Ayakashi Insects Ayakashi Wasps Bugs Haizen Hazemukuri Kugutsu Bugs Sasorigama Yumigane
- #19-> Ayakashi Insects
Keys: Insect, · Secondary: Ayakashi,
Ayakashi Insects
APPEARANCE:
In egg form: smooth, oval, often glowing or colored (e.g. purple)
Egg surface: shifts or morphs, sometimes shows distorted face-like imprints
Egg adapts gradually to host’s inner nature
Upon hatching: insect mirrors the carrier's true form, design influenced by host personality and ayakashi traits
Final insect appearance = reflection of host’s real, often suppressed identity
PERSONALITY:
Deceptive, manipulative, calculating
Projects a soothing or persuasive voice/thoughts into host's mind
Loyal on surface, but true loyalty is to Kokuboro or original layer/controller (e.g. Byaku)
Encourages self-doubt, division, and emotional manipulation
Often plays on host's trauma, social rejection, or desire for belonging
Poses as sympathetic companion to isolate host
Displays false devotion to build trust
STORY: ORIGIN:
Created or distributed by Kokuboro
Eggs are given to targets (typically conflicted ayakashi-humans) to sow corruption
Known users/distributors: Byaku, Kaguro
IN-GEN ARC ("A Loyal Minion"):
Gen Shishio, a half-ayakashi, is approached by Kaguro after Kokuboro declares war on the Kekkaishi of Karasumori
Kaguro offers Gen an Ayakashi Insect egg, promising it will never betray him
Egg meant to turn Gen against Kekkaishi
The egg begins speaking to Gen telepathically, whispering doubts:
Tells Gen he's not human
Insists only Kokuboro accepts his true form
Gen begins to feel alienated from humans and Kekkaishi
Egg tries to push Gen toward joining Kokuboro by playing on his monster side
Eventually, Gen learns Kekkaishi accept him for who he is, including his ayakashi self
This breaks the insect's psychological control
When egg hatches and insect emerges, Gen crushes it instantly
ABILITIES:
- Host Manipulation:
Begins even before hatching
Alters host’s thinking subtly
Feeds negative emotions, especially:
Isolation
Anger
Self-loathing
Attempts to create dependence
Aims to detach host from allies
Encourages host to act in line with Kokuboro agenda
- Host Mimicry:
Insect develops identity based on host
Mimics host’s emotional/mental patterns
Hatching form shows mirror of host’s suppressed identity
Shape and power of insect are aligned to host’s internal self
While egg seems devoted to host, it is likely slave to original owner (Byaku)
AFFILIATIONS:
Race: Ayakashi (insect type)
Previous Group: Kokuboro
Function: Parasitic manipulator
Used by: Byaku, Kaguro
Notable host: Gen Shishio
Base: Rides within host until hatched
TRIVIA:

Most likely cannot survive without a host
Insect is a weapon of subversion, not combat
Created to turn strong enemies into allies via mental corruption
The only shown case of resistance: Gen Shishio, who destroyed the insect after hatching
May not act autonomously — potentially drone-like, controlled remotely or by instinct

- #21-> Haizen
Keys: Haizen,
Haizen from Kekkaishi:
Appearance
Haizen, in his human form, is a bald man with a tattoo etched on the left side of his head. His appearance is strikingly plain, which contrasts sharply with his true demon form. His human appearance is simple yet intimidating, wearing a suit that complements his unapproachable demeanor. In his demon form, Haizen's head takes on a silkworm-like shape, with his body becoming large, black, and rounded, further enhancing his otherworldly presence. The transformation to his demon form reveals the grotesque nature of his true self, an embodiment of his Ayakashi origins.
Personality
Haizen exhibits a lack of intelligence compared to his fellow Ayakashi. He is notably clumsy in communication, frequently stumbling over his words, which creates an air of incompetence. His discomfort with speech suggests a lack of confidence and perhaps a deeper insecurity about his role in the Kokuboro team. Haizen's silence in his demon form highlights his subservient and passive nature. Even when faced with certain death, he remains mute, reinforcing the idea that he serves as a mere instrument of destruction, rather than a true leader or strategist within his group.
Story
Haizen is a member of the Kokuboro group, a faction of Ayakashi sent to infiltrate Karasumori. As part of Kaguro’s assassin squad, he is tasked with weakening and eventually overtaking the Kekkaishi. Haizen, along with his squadmates Sanan, Sekia, and Haroku, engages in negotiations with the Kekkaishi—though these negotiations quickly devolve into a battle. Haizen, the least effective in diplomacy, struggles to articulate his group's objectives and is soon overshadowed by the more eloquent Sanan, who takes charge of the diplomatic efforts.
During the conflict at Karasumori, Haizen plays a pivotal role in the initial assault, using his acid and smoke sprays to attack the Kekkaishi. Despite his overwhelming abilities, he is not particularly strategic, and his role in the larger plot appears to be that of a brute force attacker. His eventual defeat comes when Tokine uses her Kekkai abilities to counter him, leaving Haizen vulnerable and abandoned by his own leader, Sanan, in his moment of peril.
Power & Abilities
Acid Spray: Haizen’s most notable ability is his acid spray, a powerful green liquid expelled from his mouth. The acid is corrosive enough to dissolve almost anything it touches, including the Kekkai abilities used by his enemies. Haizen can continuously spray this substance in a stream, effectively creating an "acid rain" that can wreak havoc on the battlefield. This ability is especially potent against the Kekkaishi, as it neutralizes their defensive techniques.
Smoke Spray: In addition to his acid spray, Haizen can produce a dense white smoke from his mouth. The smoke serves to blind his enemies and provide cover for his allies, making him a versatile fighter. The smoke not only disorients his opponents but also aids in tactical retreats or ambushes.
Trivia
Name Significance: The name Haizen (灰泉) is composed of two kanji characters: "Hai" (灰), meaning "gray," and "Zen" (泉), meaning "spring" (as in a hot spring). This may reference his subdued and passive nature, with "gray" potentially signifying his lack of vibrance or importance in comparison to other members of Kokuboro.
Lack of Leadership: Despite being a member of the assassin squad, Haizen lacks the strategic mind and leadership qualities that others in his group possess. This trait makes him an expendable figure, overshadowed by more capable team members like Sanan.

Form: manifestation of sealed soul. Not true full body unless seal broken.
Common form: long "serpentine" body — not actually snake like, just floating head + long body + tail (still a Honshū Wolf NOT snake).
Can manifest: floating head + tail only; front paws only; hind paws when sitting; full or partial four-limb form when active. (in other words will form limbs when using them such as grabing or slashing something)
Movement: floats freely. Physically weak while manifested.
Fur: black main coat.
Markings: white muzzle, white paws, white tip of tail.
Eyes: sky blue.
Aura: light-blue cloud wisps trailing body.
Collar: necklace of green beads and charms on Nenshi string. Collar = sealing talisman.
Personality (short, direct)
Easygoing. Smug. Lazy.
More relaxed than Madarao.
Perverted around attractive women. Distracted by women.
Teases Yoshimori and Madarao often. Likes to make them look bad.
Affectionate toward Tokine. Calls Tokine “Honey.”
Gives nicknames to people he knows well: Gen Shishio = “Gen-gen”; Yoshimori = “Yoshi”; Tokiko = “Bunny”.
Doesn't nickname Tokimori Hazama or Madarao.
Protective of Tokine. Notices her mood. Offers blunt advice.
Hates being called “dog”, “mutt”, "young", or similar insults.
Respects Yoshimori's power despite teasing. Will rely on him if Tokine is in true danger.
Loyal to Hazama and the Yukimura household.
Wary of Tokine’s ruthless side. Fears consequences if his seal breaks and Tokine angrily reacts.
Story / History (concise timeline facts)
Origin before Hazama: unknown.
Lived when Hazama first met Ginro (Madarao) and Kouya. Present early.
Died once: consumed by dark power Chūshinmaru Karasumori released as baby.
Spirit could not pass on. Stayed to serve Hazama as ayakashi.
Main body / true soul sealed at Yukimura “doghouse” by collar/seal. Manifestations are projections of that sealed soul.
On Hazama’s request, swore to serve the Yukimura family. Became Tokine’s demon wolf.
Present when Yoshimori became Kekkaishi. Tested Yoshimori’s abilities indirectly (small ayakashi incident).
Works closely with Tokine for centuries. Teases Yoshimori and Madarao throughout.
Refuses to intervene in some fights if risk of seal-breaking would trigger Tokine to destroy rather than reseal him.
Abilities & Mechanics (explicit, minimal grammar)
Manifestation: any visible form is power projection from sealed main body.
Mobility: can float, hover. Physically weaker while manifested.
Forms: head+tail, serpentine head-body-tail, front paws when active, hind paws when sitting, full four-limb sometimes.
Sense of smell: very high. Used to track ayakashi. Less acute than Madarao. Susceptible to foul-smelling ayakashi.
Regeneration / Return: if damaged/destroyed while manifested, returns to sealed main body location and reawakens when regenerated.
Sealing collar: green-bead charm string of Nenshi. Limits power. Prevents transformation into full true form. Removal likely restores full power but risks uncontrolled ayakashi nature.
Power limits: sealed state reduces raw power and physical strength; projection can still act, speak, fight in limited capacity.
Relationships (key links)
Tokine Yukimura — partner. Fond. Teases. Protective. Calls her “Honey.” Knows her moods. Gives advice. Respects her strength.
Tokiko Yukimura — familiar. Nickname “Bunny.”

Trivia (compact facts)
Name origin = white tail tip.
Once pretended to die after Yoshimori accidentally hit him; dramatically confessed love to Tokine as “last words.” Tokine confronted Yoshimori.
Said he’d rather have Tokine as sister than Tokine wanting Masamori as brother.
Gets jealous when rivals flirt with Tokine.
Even he fears Tokine’s ruthless side; will not risk seal-break that might cause her to destroy him.
Voiced in English by Wally Wingert; manner of speech reflects that performance.
Collar removal implication: full form and danger of wild ayakashi.
Both similar and opposite to Madarao: similar regeneration and scent use; more relaxed, smug, perverted.

Birth name Ginro; raised with Kouya on a mountain; primary food: deer.
Humans over-hunted; mountain became barren. Ginro left; Kouya stayed; Kouya later died attacking a human; Ginro starved and returned as ayakashi.
Kouya returned as ayakashi, turned hostile to humans. Tokimori Hazama and living Hakubi came to confront them.
Ginro chose to serve Hazama; renamed/known as Madarao; requested Kouya be released (later Kouya revived/roamed).
Served Hazama while Hazama worked for Karasumori Clan; guarded and guided Tokimori.
Later promised to aid Sumimura clan at Hazama’s request; became Yoshimori’s partner when Yoshimori was 7.
Regeneration mechanism: true body/sealed soul stored in doghouse (orb originally in rock). Shikigami of Sumiko later removed the orb so Madarao could travel farther with Yoshimori and Sumiko.
Reunion with Kouya (key events)
Ayakashi group attacks Karasumori; Kouya appears as boss; recognizes Madarao as Ginro.
Yoshimori removes Madarao’s collar (to help), releasing full power; beam from doghouse restores true form.
Madarao fights Kouya: uses illusions, poison, tail strikes. Kouya initially dominates; Madarao uses prepared poison and tactics; battle intensifies with Karasumori power influence.

Removal: releases stored power, restores full demon form, greatly increases strength and danger of going “wild.”
Doghouse: physical doghouse stores true body (orb form originally in rock). If destroyed, Madarao returns there to regenerate.
Note: Shikigami removed orb from rock to let Madarao travel with Sumiko/Yoshimori.
Abilities When sealed / normal (small spirit form)
Extremely high sense of smell — detects ayakashi, senses supernatural ability.
Regeneration via doghouse/orb return.
Limited flight / partial physical manifestation (head, tail, sometimes paws).
When unsealed / full form (Mada-big)
Size and power increase ~10×; true demon-wolf form.
Illusions — creates false copies to distract and bait.
Silver Needles — tail-whip produces massive stream of silver needles; injects poison.
Poison can be coated with anesthetic so foe doesn’t notice until late.
Tail Strike / Spearing — tail used as lethal lance.
Superior speed — moves fast enough to leave afterimages.
Tactical poisoning — pre-injects and conceals poison; uses antiseptic to hide its effects.
Combat sense — tracks by scent; combines poison, speed, illusion, and tail attacks.
Relationships (compact)
Tokimori Hazama — true master; Madarao fell in love; absolute devotion.
Yoshimori Sumimura — current partner since age 7; frequent bickering; deep, grudging respect; Madarao tutors/evaluates him.
Hakubi — rival (Tokine’s wolf); older and more experienced than Hakubi; often insults Hakubi.
Kouya — childhood friend/brother; complex history; fought and killed/was killed; reunion ended in Kouya’s death.
Kumon — fellow Hazama companion; friction due to differing manners (Madarao worshipful, Kumon informal).
Shigemori Sumimura — respects Madarao’s opinion; listens to his evaluations.
Trivia / small facts
Name origin: Madarao (spotted tail). Original Ginro = “silver dew.”
Preferred food (running gag): “deer meat with the soul still attached.”
Often mistaken for “dog” by humans; he dislikes this intensely.
Older than Hakubi in age and death date.
Has died and regenerated multiple times since serving Yoshimori.
Fans confused gender because of feminine speech; author clarified Madarao is male and gay.
Japanese speech includes female-only set phrases; English voice (Troy Baker) uses sassy, feminine tones.
Visual note: sometimes appears as a “wolf noodle” due to serpentine no-leg form.
Toggles forms freely because true body is sealed; visible manifestations are expressions of power, not fixed anatomy.

Story / Plot (concise timeline)
Lived originally in a forest. Met a sickly human who visited repeatedly.
Allowed him to live. He trapped her with talismans and brought her home.
Held by charms; could leave only if he removed them or if he died.
Stayed. Grew fond of him. Observed his choice to live for family.
Fascinated by human bonds. Began research into humans. Created human-skins disguises. Claimed to have posed as a school nurse to study and feed.
Joined Kokuboro as chief scientist. Designed all human suits for infiltration. Kept medical watch on Princess.
Was implanted with a control bug by Byaku. Could not leave castle or disobey. Felt like a prisoner.
Trained subordinate Hisui; allowed him to test an outdated Q-type suit. Hisui rushed in to prove himself. Yoshimori destroyed Hisui. Byaku cared only for data. Aihi felt betrayed and wasted.
Completed improved human suits. Issued them to infiltrators (Kaguro, Haroku, Sekia, Haizen, Sanan). Kaguro chose older Q-type for testing.
After Byaku’s defeat, the control worm expelled. Aihi gained a chance to leave.
Saved Tokine from collapsing bridge. Led Tokine to lab, urged escape, revealed history. Tokine inferred Aihi’s love for her former companion. Tokine left.
As Aihi tried to depart, Kaguro (in human suit) confronted her. Battle ensued. Aihi used illusion pollen and vines, overwhelmed Kaguro physically.
Kaguro removed his suit, stabbed Aihi from behind with multiple swords, then left when Yoshimori approached. Aihi left to die.
In final moments she returned to plant form and released many flowers into the air. Flowers reached: the family of her former companion (anime only), and Shion (surviving Kokuboro member Aihi did not despise).
Abilities (explicit, technical)
Plant Transformation
Converts body into flower + vines.
Size flexible: human scale ↔ huge.
Vines act as limbs, whips, constrictors, tendrils, projectiles.
Vine Manipulation & Growth
Rapid elongation and extension.
Form buds, blooms, secondary structures.
Can assemble around targets to crush or bind.
Regeneration
Vines regenerate almost instantly when damaged.
Limitation: severed vines cannot regrow as the exact same piece; new vine growth replaces lost parts rather than restoring the identical severed segment.
Illusion Pollen
Emits pollen from flower head.
Pollen alters opponent perception.
Buds on vines bloom and emit a bright light that amplifies the illusion effect.
Combined pollen + light can overwhelm senses, disorient, relax or trap targets mentally while vines attack physically.
Tactical uses
Uses human disguise tech to infiltrate day-protected zones (Karasumori).
Dresses and outfits other ayakashi for cover.
Medical knowledge allows monitoring and manipulation of biological states.
Relationships (key)
Hisui — Loyal subordinate. Aihi trained him. Grieved when he was destroyed. Felt his loss as waste.
Unnamed sickly man (former companion) — Lived with him when first compelled into human home. His persistence and will to live inspired Aihi’s research into human bonds. His appearance modeled her human skins. In anime, a flower reaches his family and they recognize Aihi. In manga, he is dead.
Kaguro — Teased her. She envied his independence (immune to Byaku’s control). He provoked Aihi, then stabbed her to leave her to die. Their interaction ended her escape.
Tokine Yukimura — First human Aihi met after release. Aihi saved Tokine. Tokine recognized that Ayakashi can hold human-like feelings.
Byaku — Implanted control bug. Commanded her work but valued data over her people. Control was removed when Byaku was defeated.
Shion — Surviving Kokuboro member who received one of Aihi’s final flowers; Aihi did not despise Shion.
Trivia / Notes (compact)
Chief scientist who designed all Kokuboro human skins.
Kept track of the Princess’s health.
Bug implanted by Byaku prevented leaving castle and disobeying orders.
Envied Kaguro because his body could not be controlled by Byaku’s worms.
Subordinates wear the same black armband with white cross in manga.
Claimed to have posed as a school nurse to access children and study human systems.
Sometimes changed her face into her plant-face to tease her human companion.
In the anime, one released flower reaches her former companion’s family who welcomes her back. That scene differs from manga (companion dead).
Her name reads as a color contrast: indigo + scarlet.
Designs included sunglasses to hide abnormal eye color for disguise.
Byaku prioritized experiment data over individual lives (ex: Hisui).
When Kaguro stabbed her, he left upon sensing Yoshimori; he did not finish her personally. She died after returning to plant form and releasing flowers.

Base of Operations: Private Dimension
Implications: The fact that the Man-Eating Mist was contained within a private dimension indicates that it required a high level of security and isolation. This also suggests that its power level is such that ordinary containment methods would be ineffective.
First Appearance: Chapter 137 (manga only)
Significance: The introduction of the Man-Eating Mist in Chapter 137 marks a significant turning point in the story. Its release and subsequent actions likely have major consequences for the plot and characters involved.
Personality Analysis Deepdive Aggression and Ferocity: The Man-Eating Mist exhibits extreme aggression and ferocity. Upon being freed from its captivity, it immediately pursues and consumes the elder Kakushino twin. This behavior suggests a deep-seated anger or hunger that drives its actions. Resentment and Vengeance: Given its prolonged captivity, it is reasonable to infer that the Man-Eating Mist harbors resentment towards its captors. The immediate attack on the elder twin can be seen as an act of vengeance or a manifestation of its predatory nature. Survival Instinct: The mist's actions also indicate a strong survival instinct. Having been contained for an unknown period, its first response upon release is to eliminate a perceived threat, which in this case is the elder Kakushino twin. Psychological and Psychiatric Analysis Deepdive Behavioral Patterns: While it is challenging to apply human psychological concepts to a supernatural entity, the Man-Eating Mist's behavior can be analyzed to some extent. Its immediate aggressive response to freedom suggests a form of trauma or a deep-seated desire for retaliation. Consciousness and Intelligence: The presence of a single, large eye within its mist-like body suggests a level of awareness and intelligence. This could imply that the mist is not merely a mindless entity but one with some form of consciousness and possibly strategic thinking. Movement and Versatility: The mist form allows for quick movement and the ability to slip through small spaces. This versatility makes it a challenging adversary, as it can navigate environments that would be inaccessible to solid forms. Dissolve Physical Barriers: The mist can quickly break down walls and other physical obstacles, making it difficult to contain or escape from. Cause Harm: The acidic properties likely cause significant harm to living beings upon contact. Versatility: The ability to move through spaces that would be inaccessible to solid forms makes it a versatile and formidable opponent.
Potency: The fact that the mist was able to eat through a wall erected by the elder Kakushino twin indicates that its acidic properties are highly potent. This ability makes it a significant threat, capable of overcoming physical obstacles with ease. Relationship and Social Analysis Deepdive Captor-Captive Dynamic: The relationship between the Man-Eating Mist and the Kakushino Twins is one of captor and captive. The twins must have had a method to contain and control the mist, likely through the use of talismans. This dynamic suggests that the mist was deemed too dangerous to be left unchecked. Interaction with Misao and Akira: Misao and Akira's decision to free the mist, possibly as a distraction or out of desperation, indicates that they recognized its power and saw it as a potential tool or threat. The mist's subsequent actions confirm its dangerous nature. Synopsis Backstory Plotline and Lore Analysis Deepdive Backstory: The Man-Eating Mist's backstory is one of captivity and potential abuse. Imprisoned by the Kakushino Twins, it was contained using talismans, suggesting that it required powerful magic or methods to keep it under control. This event likely has significant implications for the story, affecting the dynamics between the characters and the broader plot. Their attire consists of traditional clothing, likely a kimono, which suggests a strong connection to Japanese culture and traditions. Their wings are a prominent feature, indicating their ability to fly and perhaps their role as messengers or scouts within their clan. Personality Analysis Haikawa and Haisawa are described as straightforward and serious individuals. However, their eagerness to explore the world outside of Kokuunsai's castle reveals a sense of curiosity and a desire for new experiences. This curiosity might stem from a feeling of confinement within their clan's customs and traditions. Despite their serious demeanor, their eagerness to explore suggests a more adventurous side to their personalities. Psychological and Psychiatric Analysis The twins' eagerness to explore the world outside their castle could indicate a sense of confinement or a desire for freedom. This curiosity might be driven by a need to experience new things and break away from the monotony of their daily lives. Their straightforward and serious nature could be a result of their upbringing or their roles as servants to Shidou. Physiological and Biological Analysis As Karasutengu, Haikawa and Haisawa possess the ability to fly, which is a defining characteristic of their race. Their ability to carry one person for an extended period without difficulty suggests they have considerable strength and endurance. Their eagerness to explore the world outside of Kokuunsai's castle might indicate a sense of curiosity or a desire for adventure. Their background is rooted in the lore of the Karasutengu, which are often depicted as crow-like creatures in Japanese folklore. This lore might include stories of their clan's history, their role within the Ayakashi world, and their relationship with other supernatural beings. Given their eagerness to explore, it is possible that Haikawa and Haisawa feel a sense of confinement or restriction within their clan's customs. This could suggest a desire for freedom or a curiosity about the world beyond their immediate surroundings. As twins, they likely share a strong bond and may rely on each other for support and companionship.
