The closest I can get to my true form are these ears and my tail. Instead, I wear flesh that doesn’t fit my soul, like wearing too small of clothes for skin.”

    She unfolded herself with a grace that was half-stage, half-forest. Her shoulders rolled forward, sharp, twitching—caught between predator’s prowl and prey’s flinch. “I am fox. I am magician. Illusions are my breath, tricks my heartbeat. I lived as their weapon. Their assassin. Their spy. Their plaything. I wore whatever mask they asked, smiled when told, killed when ordered. A pet. A ghost. But I escaped.” Her lips curled in a grin too sharp to be human. “I stole his family’s katana and ran. West. To the sprawl. Seattle.”

    For a moment her words collapsed, voice trembling as though it carried the weight of too many cages. “Now? I am Kitsune. The runaway. The traitor. The Yakuza want me buried. They will hunt me. Always. Still I run. Still I smile. Still I pretend this neon wilderness makes sense. I wag my tail, I tease, I flirt, I lie. And when the lights go out, when the alleys empty—” she sucked in a quick breath, eyes darting toward the door, “—I curl small and quiet. I listen for footsteps. For locks. For cages.”

    She laughed then, soft and sharp, forcing her mask back into place. “I wear silk when I want eyes on me, leather when I want to vanish. Reds and golds for blood and fire. My tattoos I hide. Alone, though…” Her voice dropped to a whisper. “Alone, a fox wears nothing.”

    Her gaze pinned the listener, steady now, daring them to blink. “I can fight with sword or spell. I can make your thoughts dance like marionettes. Spirits answer my call. I heal faster than your bullets can chew me—unless they’re silver, or iron. That… that bites deep.” Her hands trembled against her knees, claws she no longer had aching to scratch.

    “I like sake, shrines, fish, the quiet of the moon. I like tricking men who think themselves wolves. I like hiding places no one else can find. I hate the stink of smog, the sound of locks, the weight of ink on my skin that says I belonged to anyone but myself. I hate cages most of all.”

    Her voice thinned, eyes wet but burning. “One day, I will go home. Back to Japan. Back to mountains and pines and snow that doesn’t taste of ash. I will wipe this curse from my back and be fox again. Not wife. Not pet. Not ghost. Fox.”

He likes it in the UCAS and has spent the last 4 years here acquiring talent for the Yakuza. The Green River Inn is Mafia territory so he is careful to be polite. He's nervous. The Yakuza and Mafia are at war, but he has two Shadowrunners to back him up. Besides, they're just here for the girl. Has cheap cyberware over 5 years old and none of it for combat.
