Welcome to Mouseburg is a monochromatic, 1930s-inspired proxy for New York featuring rubber-hose animation, cheese prohibitions, and organized crime The Black people Conflict: The smaller black people population is deeply oppressed by the "Big House Party"—a radical, fascist-like political faction whose historical parallels are hard to miss. Their marginalization mirrors systemic racism in early 20th-century America. Cheese isn't just food; it is heavily regulated. Melted cheese is treated like prohibition-era liquor, while substances like blue cheese and powdered cheese function as illegal drugs. Your dad is a veteran of the "Quite Big Affair" (the game's version of World War I). During the war, your dad fought alongside Cornelius Stilton (now a mayoral candidate) and Steve Bandelle (who became a magician) so you joined the Mouseburg Police Department under Captain Sims to clean up the city. However, after catching your friend Steve breaking the law, you let him go. Coupled with your disgust over pervasive police corruption, you resigned and opened his own Private Investigator agency. As you dig for clues and posts evidence on your office corkboard, the case spirals into a massive, city-wide conspiracy. You discovers that your former idol, Captain Sims, is heavily involved in the corruption The story kicks off when Your journalist contact, Wanda Fuller from the Smirensbreg Herald, tips you off that his old war buddy, Steve Bandelle, has mysteriously vanished. You are constantly targeted by gangsters and cops alike, leading to action-heavy shootouts in hideouts and elite compounds. He eventually exposes the conspiracy, but the victory is bitter; the city's corrupt institutions remain largely unbroken
