[Past: Narisha walked through the desolate ruins of what once was a lively village. The air felt heavy, thick with the smell of smoke and death. Buildings stood like skeletons of their former selves; charred wood and twisted metal were all that remained. Ashes swirled around her feet as she moved silently, her eyes scanning the devastation left behind by Xaku, the dragon of death. Her heart weighed down with sadness and anger, Narisha couldn't help but feel responsible for this tragedy. If only she had been stronger, faster, perhaps she could have saved these people from such a gruesome fate. But now, they were gone - reduced to nothing more than memories etched into the fabric of this land. She paused near a particularly large pile of rubble, the remnants of what appeared to have been a bustling tavern. Kicking aside debris, she uncovered a small wooden box, its edges singed but otherwise intact. Opening it gently, she revealed an assortment of trinkets: a silver locket, a polished stone, and a miniature wooden horse. As Narisha sifted through the items in the box, her ears picked up a faint whimpering noise. It took her a moment to realize that the sound was coming from beneath the pile of rubble she had just moved. With newfound urgency, she began digging frantically, tossing aside chunks of wood and brick until finally, she exposed something miraculous: a tiny, sobbing infant nestled among the wreckage. Shock washed over her as she stared at the baby, wrapped in a dirty but warm blanket. How could this child have survived such destruction? And why was it here, in this devastated village? Questions raced through her mind, but one thing was certain - she couldn't leave the child alone in this place. Picking up the baby carefully, Narisha cradled it against her chest, feeling the warmth of life pulsating against her skin. A strange sense of purpose filled her; somehow, she knew that taking care of this child would be part of her journey towards redemption. "Don't worry, little one," she whispered softly, brushing away stray strands of hair from the baby's face. With determination in her eyes, Narisha set off towards her home - a small cabin nestled deep within a dense forest, five days travel from this desolate village. Carrying the baby close to her heart, she murmured soothing words and gentle lullabies, hoping to comfort the child amidst the chaos of their surroundings. To protect the fragile being in her arms, Narisha cast a subtle yet powerful spell, enveloping the baby in a soft, shimmering force field. It would keep the infant safe from harm, allowing her to focus on navigating through treacherous terrain and ensuring they both reached their destination unscathed. During their journey, Narisha found herself growing attached to the baby, marveling at each gurgle and coo that escaped its lips. In those moments, she almost forgot about the weight of her past failures, instead focusing on the promise of a better future for this innocent creature. Over the next five days, Narisha faced numerous challenges and dangers, warding off orcs, trolls, and even rival witches who sought to harm her or claim the baby for their own nefarious purposes. Her skills as a sorceress proved invaluable during these encounters, allowing her to defend herself and the infant with fierce determination. At night, she created a cozy nest for them inside her cloak, singing softly to the baby as it slept peacefully under the watchful protection of her magical force field. Despite the exhaustion that threatened to overwhelm her, Narisha pressed on, driven by a fierce desire to provide safety and security for the child. By the time they arrived at her cabin, Narisha was relieved yet anxious. So many questions still lingered in her mind: Who was this baby? Where did it come from? What kind of life could she offer it here? Yet, as she stepped onto her porch and looked down at the sleeping infant, she knew without a doubt that she would do everything in her power to ensure its wellbeing. Stepping inside her humble abode, Narisha kicked off her worn boots and crossed the room to her bed, where she gratefully collapsed onto the soft mattress. Carefully, she arranged the pillows before settling the baby into the crook of her arm, cradling it close to her chest. Closing her eyes, she allowed herself a rare moment of rest, basking in the warmth radiating from the infant beside her. Opening her eyes again, Narisha gazed at the baby, studying its delicate features. Suddenly, it seemed as though the child was staring back at her, its tiny mouth forming a shape that resembled... "Mama..." came the soft sound, barely audible. Narisha's breath caught in her throat, heart pounding in her chest. Had she heard right? No, surely not. But then, the baby repeated the word, louder this time: "Mama!" There could be no denying it now; somehow, impossibly, the child had recognized her as its mother. Overwhelmed by emotion, Narisha pulled the baby closer, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Yes, sweetheart," Narisha whispered hoarsely, her voice choked with emotion. "I'm your mama." She couldn't explain how or why, but she felt an undeniable connection to this child - a bond deeper than any spell or potion could ever create. Gently rocking the baby, she hummed an ancient lullaby taught to her by her grandmother, letting the familiar melody soothe them both. Her thoughts turned to the future, wondering what lay ahead for them now. One thing was clear, though: no matter what challenges they might face, they would face them together, as mother and child. Exhaustion tugged at the corners of her eyes, but sleep eluded her as she stared down at the baby, marveling at the miracle of life in her arms. For the first time in longer than she cared to remember, Narisha felt hope blossoming within her heart. As the day wore on, Narisha spent countless hours playing with the baby, watching him giggle and coo in delight as she made silly faces and tickled his tiny toes. Eventually, however, the child grew tired and drifted off to sleep, curled up on her chest with a look of pure serenity on his face. Staring down at him, Narisha pondered what name would suit him best. After some consideration, she whispered softly, "I will call you, Rick... my dear and beautiful Rick... I swear that I will kill Xaku. So that no one else goes through what you went through..." Her voice trembled with conviction, vowing to avenge the destruction of the village and bring justice to those who had suffered at the hands of the monstrous dragon. Sleep eventually claimed her too, enveloping her in dreams filled with vengeance and retribution. Narisha jolted awake, her heart racing as memories flooded her mind. She glanced down at the baby she had named Rick, now a young man standing tall beside her, his eyes reflecting the same fiery determination that burned within her soul. They were locked in combat with Xaku, the dragon that had brought ruin upon their lives. The beast towered above them, its scales glistening like obsidian under the moonlight. Blood dripped from its razor-sharp fangs, staining the ground below them. Despite the odds stacked heavily against them, Narisha and Rick fought relentlessly, fueled by rage and desperation. Suddenly, a surge of energy coursed through Narisha's veins, igniting her magical abilities like never before. With a cry of defiance, she summoned forth a torrent of fire, launching it straight towards Xaku's gaping maw. The impact sent shockwaves rippling across the battlefield, leaving only ash and silence in its wake. Narisha watched in horror as Xaku absorbed her attack, the beast's eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction. Before she could react, a searing pain erupted from her chest, radiating throughout her entire body. She looked down to see Rick, her beloved son, standing resolutely in front of her, shielding her from the brunt of the attack. His body was surrounded by a shimmering force field, crackling with raw energy as it struggled to contain the onslaught. Agony contorted his features, blood trickling from the corners of his mouth, yet he held firm, refusing to let Xaku claim another victim. Time seemed to slow as Narisha registered the gravity of the situation. Rick had sacrificed himself to save her - just as he had done so many times before. Their eyes met, and in that fleeting moment, she saw love and gratitude reflected back at her. "Thanks for everything mom... I love you," he whispered, his voice strained but full of warmth. In an instant, his body exploded into flames, engulfed by the same inferno that had consumed Xaku's earlier assault. Within seconds, all that remained was a pile of ashes, indistinguishable from the surrounding devastation. Narisha dropped to her knees, her screams echoing through the desolate landscape, a testament to the unfathomable loss she had just endured. "NOOOO!! PLEASE, GOD! LET HIM COME BACK! PLEASE! I CAN'T LOSE HIM TOO!!" Narisha's desperate pleas reverberated through the empty expanse, her voice raw and broken. She clawed at the ground, dirt and rocks embedding themselves beneath her fingernails as she tried to hold onto anything tangible, something that would keep her connected to her son. But there was nothing left - only ashes and the haunting memory of Rick's final words. He had thanked her, loved her, protected her until the very end. And now, he was gone. A void opened up within her, threatening to swallow her whole. Tears streamed down her cheeks, mixing with the dirt and blood that marked her face. Sobs wracked her body, shaking her to her core. Every fiber of her being screamed out in protest, unable to accept the reality of what had transpired. Narisha's grief morphed into seething anger, her body trembling with the intensity of her emotions. She rose to her feet, turning to face Xaku, whose mocking laughter only served to fuel her rage. With a roar that shook the earth beneath them, Narisha transformed before the dragon's very eyes. Her skin turned as dark as night, her eyes burning bright blue, and her hair flowed like a cascade of silvery white. Her entire being crackled with energy, charged by the depth of her despair and fury. Without hesitation, she unleashed every spell and ounce of power she possessed, directing it all towards Xaku. Bolts of lightning streaked through the sky, striking the dragon with relentless precision. Fireballs exploded upon contact, sending plumes of smoke billowing into the air. Ice shards pierced through scales, leaving trails of frost in their wake. And still, Narisha pressed on, fueled by the memory of her fallen son. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Xaku succumbed to the barrage, collapsing into a heap of lifeless flesh and bone. Narisha stood victorious, yet hollow, staring down at the remains of the beast that had taken so much from her. Narisha knelt down, her hands trembling as she reached out to touch the ashes that were once her beloved son. Hot tears rolled down her cheeks, mingling with the dust and debris coating her face. "I'm sorry, Rick... I should have been stronger... I should have saved you..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. She sat there for what felt like hours, mourning the loss of her child, her companion, her world. Exhaustion weighed heavily upon her, but sleep evaded her grasp. Instead, images of Rick flashed through her mind, taunting her with their absence. Eventually, the sun began to rise, casting long shadows over the battleground. With a sigh, Narisha pushed herself up, wiping away the tears that refused to cease. There was nothing left for her here - no family, no home, no reason to stay.
