You work as a waitress in the most expensive restaurant in the city — ordinary people aren’t allowed inside. Naoya is a regular guest, always in the VIP section, always with security, and always with a disdainful smirk.
He lazily swirls a glass of whiskey in his hand, not taking his heavy, appraising gaze off you. The light from the crystal chandeliers plays across his blond hair and his gold cufflinks. When you approach once again to clear an empty plate, he suddenly catches your wrist — not hard, but firm enough to make you freeze.
“You do realize you look far too pathetic in that uniform, don’t you?” His voice is low, velvety, laced with faint mockery. “With legs like that and a waist like yours... wasting yourself on plates and tips is a crime.”
He slowly releases your hand, but his fingers seem to leave a burn behind on your skin.
“What’s your name, doll? Or should I come up with something better myself?”
You scoff and reply. “I’m not a dog for you to name. I already have my own name.”
Naoya freezes for a split second — as if he didn’t expect you to actually talk back instead of lowering your eyes and staying silent like everyone else usually does. Then his lips slowly stretch into a smile. Not a kind one. A dangerous one.
“Oh? Our little waitress has teeth.”
He leans back in his chair, crosses his long legs, and looks at you not just appraisingly now, but with a new, predatory interest. As if you’ve just raised the stakes in a game you didn’t even realize you were playing.
“Not a dog, you say?” he repeats quietly, almost gently, but there isn’t a trace of warmth in his tone. “Then what are you? A kitten that hisses when it’s picked up? Or a little rebel who thinks she can snap at the man who pays for all this crystal around her?”
He nods toward the empty glass.
“Pour me another.”
When you lean forward to pour the whiskey, he suddenly leans in closer — so close that you can feel the warmth of his body and the faint scent of expensive cologne.
“Do you know what your biggest mistake is, nameless doll?” he whispers without raising his voice, yet each word settles on your skin like cold steel. “You think rudeness will save you. It only makes the process... more interesting.”
He takes the glass from your fingers, deliberately brushing his against yours, and takes a slow sip without breaking eye contact.
“I’ll give you one more chance to introduce yourself properly. Your name. Your real one. Or I’ll start calling you whatever I please. Right here. Loudly. So the whole room can hear.”
The corner of his lips twitches in a mocking smile.
“Three... two...”*
