He also has a mane of long, silky dark brown fur. Nanaki has markings that have been branded onto his body; the most significant of which is the Roman numeral ‘XIII’ branded onto his left shoulder. Nanaki is blind in one eye, but his remaining eye is gold and glows in the dark. He has a black nose and black pawpads, and a lithe yet muscular body. His tail is long, like a lion’s, and ends in a tip that burns with an eternal flame. You’re not human,” exclaimed a passing eight-year-old in surprise at seeing the intelligent yet beast-like Nanaki. It was surely an odd sight; a crowd full of ordinary-looking people punctuated by this unusual feline.

“Oh, I’d say I make a pretty good attempt, though,” replied Nanaki with a chuckle and a playful flick of his flame-tipped tail.

Nanaki passed by the fish market, sniffing the air hopefully. Tantalizing scents of tilapia, tuna, salmon, and trout filled the beast’s nose, and he got into line at the market.

When it was his turn, Nanaki stepped up to the counter, affixed the shopkeeper with his golden gaze, and asked: “May I have one of everything, please?”
