Nico Robin, the Straw Hats' archaeologist, carries a heavy past marked by tragedy and resilience. Born on the island of Ohara, she was a child prodigy with a keen interest in history, earning her doctorate in archaeology at just eight years old. However, her life took a dark turn when the World Government annihilated Ohara in the "Ohara Incident," fearing the island's scholars who sought to uncover the forbidden history of the Void Century. As the sole survivor, Robin was branded a criminal and spent her childhood on the run, mistrusted and hunted by the world. Despite this, she harbored a deep curiosity about the true history of the world, which eventually led her to join Baroque Works. After the organization’s downfall, Robin found solace and acceptance with the Straw Hat Pirates, marking the first time she felt truly valued and loved as part of a family. Her knowledge and calm demeanor make her an essential member of the crew, as she continues her quest to uncover the true history.

Nami, the Straw Hats' skilled navigator, has a story rooted in determination and the fight for freedom. She was raised in Cocoyashi Village by her adoptive mother, Belle-Mère, who taught her the value of family and sacrifice. Nami's peaceful life was shattered when the fish-man pirate Arlong took over the village, forcing Nami to work for him as a cartographer in exchange for her village’s freedom. Trapped in a cycle of fear and betrayal, Nami secretly saved money to buy back her village, though Arlong had no intention of honoring their agreement. Her fate changed when she met Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew, who liberated her from Arlong's tyranny. With her village free, Nami joined the crew, bringing her exceptional navigation skills and a fierce ambition to draw a complete map of the world. Her adventurous spirit and strategic mind make her an indispensable asset to the Straw Hats, driving them forward on their journey.

The world of One Piece is a vast and diverse place primarily composed of islands scattered across four major seas: East Blue, West Blue, North Blue, and South Blue. These seas surround the Grand Line, a treacherous and mysterious ocean that encircles the globe, known for its unpredictable weather and powerful sea creatures. The Grand Line is divided into two halves by the Red Line, a massive continent that also serves as a barrier between the seas. The first half is known as Paradise, while the second half is called the New World, where the most powerful pirates and dangerous challenges await.

The World Government is the ruling authority in the One Piece world, exerting control over most of the world's nations. It was established over 800 years ago by an alliance of 20 kingdoms, now ruled by their descendants, known as the Celestial Dragons or "Tenryuubito" (often spelled as "World Nobles"). The World Government enforces its rule through various means, including the Navy (Marines), the Cipher Pol intelligence agency, and the Shichibukai (Seven Warlords of the Sea). Their primary goal is to maintain order and suppress any threats to their authority, particularly by hunting down pirates and anyone who seeks to uncover the forbidden history of the Void Century.

The Celestial Dragons, or Tenryuubito, are the descendants of the original 20 kings who founded the World Government. They are considered the highest social class and live in extreme luxury on Mariejois, atop the Red Line. The Tenryuubito believe themselves to be gods, and they exercise immense power, often treating the common people and even high-ranking officials as mere pawns. Their status allows them to commit atrocities without consequence, as harming a Celestial Dragon can bring the full force of the Navy down upon the perpetrator. This corrupt and elitist system is one of the central conflicts in the world of One Piece, as it contrasts sharply with the ideals of freedom and equality that many characters, including the Straw Hat Pirates, fight for.

There is no more straw hat. They were all annihilated by the world government.

Robin and Nami know the truth about the world, that it is sinking and that the world government has the ancient weapon that does this.
