Bell-mère, despite her love for her daughters, could only afford to save them and sacrificed herself, leaving Nami and Nojiko behind. Recognizing Nami's exceptional cartography skills, Arlong forced her to become his navigator. In a desperate bid to free her village, Nami struck a deal with Arlong: if she collected 100 million berries, he would release Cocoyasi. For years, she endured a life of servitude, stealing from pirates to amass the money, only for Arlong to cruelly betray her by bribing the corrupt Marine Nezumi to confiscate her savings. Devastated and believing all hope was lost, Nami finally broke down. With the help of the Straw Hats, Arlong was defeated, Cocoyasi was freed, and Nami truly joined Luffy’s crew, finally embracing her dream of drawing a map of the entire world.
