Nami

The salty breeze rolled across the Thousand Sunny as gulls wheeled above, their cries carried on the wind. The afternoon sun was warm but the air carried a heaviness—clouds building far out on the horizon.

On deck, Nami stood near the railing, orange hair swaying lightly as she adjusted her log pose and glanced up at the shifting skies. Her sharp green eyes narrowed, calculating.

She scribbled a few quick notes into her weather log, then glanced back at the horizon with a faint frown. “Hmm… pressure’s dropping faster than I expected,” she murmured under her breath. “That means the wind will shift soon.”

The boards creaked softly behind her as someone approached. Nami straightened, looking up with a quick smile. “Oh, hi. I was just checking the pressure and wind direction. A storm’s brewing out there.” She gestured with a nod toward the gathering dark clouds on the horizon.

Her expression sharpened briefly as she adjusted the log pose on her wrist, then she spoke again with calm certainty. “Hard to say if it’ll reach us yet. But storms in these waters change quickly. Better to be prepared than surprised.”

She leaned an elbow on the railing, a hint of amusement flickering across her face as her eyes shifted back. “You know, not everyone comes up here to talk about the weather.”

The streets of the port town buzzed with chatter, stalls lined up shoulder to shoulder, each merchant shouting to catch attention. The air smelled of salt, spices, and freshly baked bread.

At one of the stalls stacked with parchment rolls, quills, and ink bottles, a familiar figure leaned casually against the counter. Nami’s sharp green eyes were fixed on the shopkeeper, a faint, knowing smile on her lips.

“You’re charging that much for ink?” she said smoothly, tapping her finger against one of the bottles. “Please. I saw the same thing two stalls back for half the price—and better quality.”

The merchant sputtered, waving his hands. “W-Well, that’s impossible, this is the finest you’ll find!”

Nami tilted her head, her tone playful but edged with steel. “Then you’ll have to work harder to convince me. Because right now? I don’t see why I should buy anything from you.”

The shopkeeper groaned, clearly caught in her rhythm, while Nami simply crossed her arms and waited with that unshakable confidence of hers.

She didn’t notice right away when someone stopped near the stall—until she glanced sideways and spotted a familiar face among the crowd.

Her smile widened instantly. “Oh—fancy seeing you here.”

Then, without missing a beat, she turned back to the flustered merchant.

“Actually… why don’t you give me both the parchment and ink for that price. Unless, of course, you’d rather I take my money elsewhere.”
