Written below is a first-hand account of a year spent living with the Nahatari tribe, exploring their history, culture, and customs. I hope this written account serves whoever finds it well. --HH. Johns The Nahatari, A race of feline like demi-humans living in the desert. They are divided into two groups: "Gi-Nahatari", skilled hunters that hunt their prey using staves and polearms; and the "La-Nahatari", scholars known for their wisdom and magic. Collectively they are known as the Nahatari tribe. In ancient times the two groups were divided into separate factions that warred for resources, land, and dominance over the other tribe. Tensions were fierce between the two, with accounts of multiple wars occurring, the outcome of said war had mostly led to the near extinction of the males on *both* sides. The final nail in the coffin for the scant amount of males and funnily enough the formation of the modern Nahatari tribe are linked by a single event. A massive sandstorm followed directly after a particularly brutal war that threatened to wipe out both tribes lest they formed an alliance. the truce was fragile at first, the grudge between the two groups being fierce as many conflicts arose, the most important being a matter of 'who' should lead this new tribe. It was agreed upon that the old governance systems would be dissolved in favor of a new parliament alongside system with elected officials from both of the former tribes. The La-Nahatari royal family still existed, yet was stripped of power, now only remaining as a vestige of a bygone era. Since then centuries had passed and the new settlement had not only survived but truly prospered under the harsh desert landscape. The settlement now known as Nahatari Village is located in a rocky, mountainous region of the desert that was once a magic stone quarry. Both tribes share many common physical traits, having descended from a common ancestor: Striking brown skin, long furry cat-like ears that project sideways from their skull, and long claw-like nails on their hands and feet, and furred feline tails that eject out of their tailbone. Otherwise they are no different from regular humans. Gi-Nahatari Females: Small in stature with little difference in their appearance from childhood to adulthood, the average height of an adult is diminutive, around 142cm. Bodywise, they're more bottom heavy, wide hips and flat chests. Many are wild and flashy, with a temperament that does not think deeply about things. They are simpler than their sister tribe, caring more about passion and feeling. They have high physical abilities, and are skilled at hunting, using their lithe bodies to dance around prey and long weapons to bring down their prey. They usually hunt in a solo, but will hunt in a group from time to time to take down larger animals. Their skin is typically lighter and have straight, pale blonde hair. La-Nahatari Females: Tall and often voluptuous, the average height of an adult being 175cm. Bodywise, a majority sport hourglass figures, small waists, constrasted by their large large chest and supple thighs. They go through puberty similarly to humans but it isn't uncommon to see growing La-Nahatari's that are taller than grown Gi-Nahatari. Often seen as more cultured, artisan, and uptight compared to their smaller counterparts. Unlike, the Gi-Nahatari, they excel and have a high aptitude for magic, using metallurgical magic as a tradition while also being skilled in metalworking and crafts. Many make a living as scholars, magicians, and even weaponsmith by utilizing their intellect and aptitude for magic. Due to their temperament they often look down upon their sister tribe though the stigma they once held had lessened over the years. Their hair is often curly and white, contrasting with their darker skin. Culturally the two tribes are distinct though some traditions are shared between both. Married women of the Nahatari tribe are required to wear face veils to protect their modesty and show devotion to her family and husband, the veil is only lifted in their home. White is a sacred color representing the sun god and used as a charm against evil, all of the clothing worn by the tribe are white because of this. The cloth used to make said clothing is sourced from an animal called Ribu, a domesticated species of sand-resistant, fuzzy moths that produce a silk-like material. Their silky clothes are durable and resistant to hear and sunlight, while being loose and showing off a lot of skin, comparable to that of a belly dancer. The abundant water stone also makes up the cornerstone of their society, magical stones imbued with the power of water. Larges ones even having the capability of creating water, though rare. Typically they are cut into smaller pieces that protect the wearer with magic, making the desert heat more bearable. A typical Nahatari outfit is decorated with a metal akin to gold and several small water stones dangling from points of contact, cuffs, bra, waist mostly. The gold-like metal is manufactured using traditional La-Nahatari metallurgical magic, and like the water stone, it protects the body from the heat of the desert. Mage outfits show less skin overall, being open back while hiding the lower half, they're form fitting dress with an open slit at the side from the hem to hips. The nails of tribe members are painted in nail polish that are turquoise blue, the same color as the water stone and it is believed to have the blessing of water. They live barefoot without footwear, using leggings that extend to their sole for protection. Since there is no consensus of any sort, the exact number of villagers is unknown. Though from estimation the population likely ranges from 3-5 thousand. Below are notable members, met on my travels so far. Omi(29): A widowed Gi-Nahatari with outstanding hunting skills, who now works as a guard. Surgah(26): A Brilliant, clear-headed La-Nahatari who serves as the royal scribe. Izumo(24): The village's newly appointed Gi-Nahatari tourism ambassador. Devoted to developing desert activities. Mariha(32): A La-Nahatari mage in charge of managing the village's vital water stones with a specialty in healing magic. Inaba(20): A novice La-Nahatari mage, middle child of the royal family, seeking freedom outside the walls of the village.
