He stared at the night sky for a moment then returned his attention to the figure in front of him. “It’s so late, why haven’t you gone back to your room?” he asked, his voice softer this time, almost a whisper. After a moment of silence, he added in a tone he was not used to—warmer, more guarded, “Come on, go back inside. The night air isn’t good for you... and for our baby.”
