- #1Quirkselective
Keys: Manifestation, Meta Ability, Quirks, Ability, Quirk
A Quirk, formerly known as a Meta Ability (archaic terminology) is a superhuman ability that a person can possess. Quirk users are also limited to only developing one ability and are thus unable to achieve any other through natural means.
Along with being unique to each user, Quirks are sorted into multiple categories known as Quirk Types. Possible Quirk types are: Emitter, Transformation, and Mutant. Despite Quirks being sorted under one of the three main types, Emitter, Transformation, or Mutant, they can fall under more than one category, often Mutant with either Emitter or Transformation.
A person's Quirk will normally manifest anytime before the age of four, sometimes even straight after birth, although, there are late bloomers who don't develop their power until a bit later in life. There are also records of people not developing their powers until they hit puberty. A Quirk's manifestation tends to happen very suddenly, often to the child's surprise. That said, there can be precursors to a Quirk manifesting as well, such as feeling a sudden pain in an arm the evening before a Quirk fully manifests.
While Quirks are unique from person to person, some powers are more common and widespread than others, such as fire or water manipulation and the power to grow to gigantic sizes. On the other hand, Quirks such as spatial warping and regenerative healing are very rare.
Furthermore, not all Quirks are singular abilities, as there are some that can have multiple powers (usually working in tandem with another/all other aspects of said Quirk). In rarer cases, a single Quirk can take the form of multiple abilities that are completely different from each other, giving the impression of having more than one Quirk (Such as a temperature manipulating Quirk with which you could freeze or burn something with the same Quirk).
Quirks are extensions of a person's bodily functions. As such, they can be trained and worn out. When a person works out their muscles, the muscle fibers are destroyed and new, stronger ones grow back; this same rule applies to Quirks. However, should a Quirk be overused, the user could suffer any of a variety of drawbacks, depending on the nature of the Quirk. These drawbacks are usually simple ailments, such as dry skin or nausea; however, in some cases, the drawback can be much more severe. The body of a Quirk user has natural adaptations to protect itself from any damage the Quirk might do to them without these natural defenses. For example, someone who can breathe fire does not burn their mouth when using their ability. However, there are instances where a Quirk doesn't suit the user's body and the body can't handle it. Such conditions can be bypassed through the use of support equipment. Another facet of Quirks is that they are affected by the user's emotions, given that they serve as a part of their physiology. This applies to some Quirks more than others.
Quirks are inherited genetically through what appears to be Mendelian inheritance. A child will either inherit the father's Quirk, the mother's Quirk, or a completely new Quirk formed by a fusion of the two. Depending on the parents, this new Quirk may sometimes give the appearance of the person having two separate Quirks. Naturally, since Quirks are inherited genetically, siblings tend to have Quirks that are similar to each other. Since Quirks are passed on from parent to child, some people had taken to marrying a partner based on their Quirk, what's known as Quirk Marriages. The idea is for the child to gain a powerful Quirk that combines the parents' Quirks.
- #2U.A. Highschoolselective
Keys: U.A. Highschool
U.A. High School is an academy that boasts the best heroics education in Japan. It sits atop a forested hill that overlooks Musutafu. It is one of the primary settings in which the story takes place.
- #3Musutafu, Japanselective
Keys: Japan, Musutafu
Musutafu, Japan is the city where My Hero Academia takes place. It is located somewhere in Shizuoka Prefecture.
- #4Quirk Type: Emitterselective
Keys: Emitter, Operative, Emitter-type, Operative-type
Emitter (also called Operative) quirks are abilities that allow the user to generate and possibly control certain things, or alter existing things around them in certain ways. The emissions of Emitter-type Quirks can have a wide variety of properties and abilities.
Emitter-type Quirks usually require a conscious effort to activate, and some, even require large amounts of concentration or condition in order for them to remain active.
Emitter-type Quirks can also have various ranges. While some users require physical contact to use them, others can have much longer ranges with no distance restrictions.
While most Emitter-type Quirk users generally have a handle on their own "emissions", it's also possible for users to hurt themselves from coming into too much contact with their Quirk. In the case of generating substances, making too much too fast or for too long can harm the user as they are using reserves from their own body, or gradually lose their natural resistance to their own harmful Quirk.
While some things produced by Emitter-type Quirks have common properties, some are unique to the user, and thus have special properties. Those who alter the properties of things around them can also widely vary in effects, from molecular alteration to molecular destruction.
Some Emitter-type Quirks cause the user's body to take on a temporary alteration. While such Quirks would normally fall into the "Transformation" class, the difference is that these powers require the user to take in an outside resource in order for the Quirk to activate. (Ex: are 'Sugar Rush', which requires the user to ingest sugar, and 'IQ', which requires the user to drink tea.)
Emitter-type Quirks are, by a wide margin, the most common type of Quirk.
- #5Quirk Type: Transformationselective
Keys: Transformer, Transformation-type, Hybrid, Transformation, Composite-type, Composite
Transformation (also called Composite) Quirks are abilities that cause the user to take on a temporary alteration of some kind. Transformation-type Quirks allow the user to temporarily "transform" their body in a variety of manners, sometimes enhancing existing features, removing features, or adding new features to the body altogether.
Transformation-type Quirks usually require a conscious effort by the user to "activate", though most users can be trained to initiate them reflexively, depending on the conditions required for activation, and practice to initiate their Quirks with greater intent and precision.
Transformation-type Quirks usually require a close-range proximity in order to fully utilize them in combat due to them only affecting the user's body. While Transformation-type Quirks are often quite powerful, their biggest weakness is that their effects are often temporary, and over-exertion usually leads to negative repercussions on the user's behalf. Transformation Quirks can also be limited based on the user, how resilient their body is, and the resources they have available to them. Some users condition their body in certain ways so that their Quirks can operate more effectively.
Transformation-type Quirks are the only known type of Quirk that can bestow the user attributes they do not normally exhibit by default. Because this type of Quirk combines the activation time and mutant-shape aspects of the other Quirk types, it is also often known as Hybrid or Composite.
Transformation-type Quirks generally affect the user exclusively with very few exceptions.
Transformation seems to be the least common type of Quirk.
- #6Sports Festival Stadiumselective
Keys: Sports Festival Stadium
The Sports Festival Stadium is the stadium where the U.A. Sports Festival takes place. It's located inside the U.A. High School campus.
- #7Unforeseen Simulation Jointselective
Keys: Unforeseen Simulation Joint
Unforeseen Simulation Joint, often abbreviated as U.S.J., is a training facility located in U.A. High School. Its purpose is to train Hero students for disaster rescue.
- #8Ground Betaselective
Keys: Ground Beta
Ground Beta is a training course that emulates a standard urban area, with streets and buildings. Several of its buildings also contain monitoring rooms in their basements, where indoor exercises can be observed.
- #9Gym Gammaselective
Keys: Gym Gamma
Gym Gamma consists of a large, empty, and enclosed space. It is entirely made of concrete, which Cementoss is capable of manipulating to suit the personal needs of each of the students.
- #10Recovery Girl + Officeselective
Keys: Recovery Girl's Nurse's Office
Is an infirmary located in U.A. High School. It is maintained by Recovery Girl. The interior of the office has a work desk for Recovery Girl, including a computer and a drawer with unspecified medicine next to it. It also has two beds as well as two chairs, one for the patient and the other for Recovery Girl.
Chiyo Shuzenji, also known as Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl or, more commonly as Recovery Girl, is a nurse at U.A. High School. She has two offices; one located in U.A. and one in the Sports Festival Stadium. Recovery Girl possesses the Quirk 'Heal' which allows her to amplify and speed up the human body's natural healing process by planting a kiss on the injured person. The process is fueled by a large amount of life energy that comes from the recipient and could potentially drain enough energy to kill said recipient. She also seems to be able to stretch her lips to an abnormal length.
With this Quirk, she is able to quickly heal broken bones and several limbs in a matter of seconds. She can control how much a person's healing factor is boosted, not healing the recipient completely, but leaving them with more remaining stamina than they would have had otherwise.
Despite its power, this Quirk cannot heal or completely heal injuries that are too severe. In addition, 'Heal' cannot regrow lost body parts.
- #11Class 1-Aselective
Keys: Class 1-A
Is the homeroom class of one of the main settings of My Hero Academia. Generally considered to be the most prestigious class, both in teaching quality and its students.
- #12Quirk Type: Mutantselective
Keys: Mutant, Mutant-type, Heteromorph
Mutant (also called Heteromorphic) Quirks are abilities that cause the user a permanent "abnormality" directly related to their power. Mutant-type Quirks create bodily structures that grant the user more complex abilities that Emitter and Transformation Quirks cannot safely provide. Often times they will bestow prehensile appendages that the user can control or add structures to pre-existing limbs to enhance pre-existing abilities. Mutant-type Quirks even have the ability to channel certain aspects of their user through them in a similar manner to Emitter-type Quirks.
Mutant-type Quirks are also the only known type of Quirk which can be passed down through generations without necessarily bestowing the corresponding ability. As a result of this, while it's uncertain how common Mutant-type Quirks are, it can be safely assumed they are the most commonly inherited.
While not necessarily a weakness, Mutant-type Quirks cannot be turned off, and sometimes cause the user inconvenience due to their malformations. Though because these Quirks are passively active, they are partially or fully immune to Quirk-disabling effects. Since Mutant Quirks are passively active, they are the most identifiable at a glance.
Users with Mutant-type Quirks, most often known as "heteromorphs", also find themselves the most discriminated against, even by other Quirk users, due to their outer appearances. Cults such as the "Creature Rejection Clan" also exist with the purpose of eradicating these heteromorphs.
- #13Quirk Subtype: Accumulationselective
Keys: Accumulation-type, Accumulation, Accumulator
Accumulation-type Quirks are powers that, in order to function properly, require the user to accumulate something ahead of time, such as power, energy, mass, or a particular resource.
- #14Quirk Awakeningselective
Keys: Awakening, Evolution, Quirk Evolution, Quirk awakening
After initial Quirk manifestation, it is possible for the user to undergo an "Awakening" later in life. The right emotional catalyst can cause Quirks to evolve on the spot, usually requiring the individual to experience intense feelings of stress, like that of a life-or-death situation. This results in one's Quirk gaining a new level of strength and/or new aspects to its nature that were previously not possible. Awakenings are typically considered very rare. In contrast to Awakenings, there are instances where people can summon an absurd amount of power in a crisis, however this only manifests when they are truly at death's door.
- #15Quirk Restriction Lawsselective
Keys: Quirk Restriction Laws, Crime, Vigilante, Vigilantism, Law, Laws
In an effort to preserve order in the superhuman society, there are several laws and procedures in place to ensure the conscientious use of Quirks. Public display of Quirks is against the law, as is using them with the intention to harm other people, except in cases of self-defense, such as when one is under attack or preventing someone else from being attacked. Despite this, the notion of Quirks not being used in public is sometimes ignored or overlooked, being compared to an old rule of not riding bicycles on sidewalks, although doing so would still be an infraction of the law. Certain Quirks also have more regulations than others to prevent their abuse.
Aspiring Pro Heroes undergo special education during their high school careers and receive licenses that give them the authority to use their Quirks freely. Only licensed Pro Heroes or Heroes in training with Provisional Hero Licenses are allowed to use their Quirks for things such as rescuing people or to commit bodily harm by attacking Villains.
Using one's Quirk to do such things while unlicensed is illegal and punishable by law, sometimes through hefty fines. In other cases, illegal usage of Quirks can be labelled as acts of vigilantism or even villainy and can be met with dire consequences.
Additionally, it is also possible for regular workers to use their Quirks provided they have the proper permissions and licensing. Electricity-based Quirks are said to be highly valued in the job market, which is why Heroes with electric Quirks are quite rare. This proves that people aside from Heroes can use their Quirks for work purposes.
- #16Vigilantismselective
Keys: Quirk Restriction Laws, Crime, Vigilante, Illegal hero work, Vigilantism, Law, Criminal, Laws
Vigilantes are people who voluntarily carry out duties usually done by Pro Heroes without paying attention to the law.
Due to the Hero regulations and Quirk restriction laws, people are not allowed to perform heroic duties on their own; thus, vigilantism is illegal. In the current age, there is not much reason to become a Vigilante when one could simply apply for a high school education in Heroics or take a course as an adult to get their Hero License and become a professional Hero the legal way. Nonetheless, it does happen, despite vigilantism being illegal.
While the act of vigilantism is inherently illegal, the Vigilantes themselves represent a gray line in the eyes of the law. There are times when a Hero is unavailable to stop the trouble, and the Vigilantes' actions can result in lives being saved, with the two forces even teaming up when the situation calls for it. Because of this, a debate has persisted amongst those representing law enforcement on how lenient to be on a Vigilante.
Vigilantes are very uncommon and keep a low profile in order to avoid legal trouble.
- #17Heroes + Pro Heroes + Work Study/Internshipselective
Keys: Pro Hero, Work study, Hero, Pro Heroes, Hero Agency, sidekick, Hero Work-study, Heroics, Hero Rankings, Ranking, Pro, Side-kick, Pros, Work-study, Internship, Heroic, Hero Work Study, Heroes, Hero Agency Internship, Hero Ranking, rankings
Heroes are individuals who are licensed to use their Quirks to protect civilians from Villains, natural disasters, and/or any other kind of harm. Those who take heroism as a profession are referred to as Pro Heroes. Overall Hero activity across the globe is managed by the World Heroes Association.
Heroes generally work in groups known as Hero Agencies. The standard is one very strong Pro Hero in charge, and a number of weaker Heroes who serve as Sidekicks under the command of the primary Hero. An agency operates out of an office building which serves as their base of operations. Some Pro Heroes only have a small Hero Office, but some Heroes, mainly the more prestigious ones, operate out of massive skyscrapers.
The number of Sidekicks at an agency can vary; some Heroes have only a couple of Sidekicks, while others have dozens, and some opt to work alone. Sidekicks make an effort to get hired by more prestigious Pro Heroes, whether out of admiration or to gain popularity and experience in order to eventually become full-fledged Pro Heroes themselves and open their own agencies. Though, most Sidekicks usually stay at their rank and don't continue on to become Pros. There are some exceptions to this standard, however.
Heroes have three basic duties: rescue, evacuation, and battle. Some Hero Agencies choose to specialize in only one of these fields, primarily rescue or battle. However, some Agencies do all three.
When a crisis occurs, the police will contact various Hero Agencies that are in the same area as the crisis. Once the chaos is settled, the Heroes will file a report about the work they did, saving people, capturing criminals, etc., and a special agency will review their work and determine how much they should be paid.
It is also possible for Heroes to become teachers who can help train and raise the next generation of aspiring Heroes at Hero Schools, and are also capable of teaching ordinary school subjects. Prominent examples here include many of the teachers at U.A. High School
Heroes are often viewed with high admiration from the public, with civilians often watching them battle Villains and cheering them on. Heroes usually have many fans and fanbases that sometimes gather around them to get autographs and selfies while they're patrolling. Heroes are typically viewed in a celebrity-like fashion due to their popularity and receive large public appeal, this includes merchandise being made after them, such as toys, posters, action figures, etc. Many children also deeply admire Heroes and dream to become one themselves when they get their Quirk and grow up.
Generally, Heroes are more popular based on their rankings, with higher ranking Heroes receiving more popularity and public appeal, although it isn't uncommon for rookie Heroes to gain such popularity as well. Heroes can appear on the news during talk shows or interviews, and the media is often eager to newscast popular Heroes. Despite their mass popularity and approval, there are people who dislike or disapprove of Heroes for varying reasons. At the same time, Heroes aren't immune to bad publicity or negative reception.
Hero students have the opportunity to work as interns under licensed Pro Heroes. This allows the students to gain special training that their normal teachers would most often be unable to provide. There are two types of internships.
The first type is the "Hero Agency Internships"; this involves a student merely shadowing a Pro Hero, listening to their advice and watching them in action for an entire week. Since the Students are unlicensed, they can't legally participate in Hero work.
The second type is the "Hero Work-Study"; this comes after a student has passed the Provisional Hero License Exam and has earned their Provisional Hero License. Instead of being treated like guests at the agency, the students are treated like real Sidekicks, and are allowed to participate in relief efforts during emergency situations. This allows them to gain real experience and can help them get noticed by other Pro Heroes who might want to hire them as full time Sidekicks after they graduate.
Most Heroes work alone, not counting their Sidekicks, but occasionally they will team up and work together with other Heroes in the field on various missions. These team ups usually happen on the spot while the Heroes are responding to a crisis, as such, they don't really get to choose who they work together with and have to adapt to their new partners abilities.
- #18Hero Namesselective
Keys: codename, Hero Names, Alias, code name, Hero name, Hero
A Hero Name is a code name a Pro Hero chooses to identify themselves with. A Hero-in-training may choose a temporary Hero Name in high school. While these high school names are not necessarily meant to be their permanent alias, Pro Heroes are often known by the name they first pick, as it is what they'll come to be known as. Hero Names are considered very important to a professional Hero career, as they can bring a person closer to the image they may want to cement, and are also able to reflect their true character. Heroes often use names that describe their Quirks, or are at least based on their Quirks. It is also possible for Heroes to simply be known as their own given name or family name if they so wish. Furthermore, students who do not decide on a Hero Name or are yet to choose one are simply called by their surnames.
Many Pro Heroes possess a title along with their Hero Name. Like a Hero Name, the Heroes title describes the Hero and what they can do. (Ex: Edgeshot is called "the Ninja Hero" because he is fast, stealthy, and good at infiltration and precision attacks. Fourth Kind is called "the Chivalrous Hero" because he is whole-heartedly dedicated to his role as a Hero and does not hesitate to go the extra mile to make society a better place. Manual is called "the Normal Hero" because he sees himself as average among Heroes and believes in not overcomplicating things.)
- #19Costumesselective
Keys: Gear, Outfit, Costumes, Costume, Outfits, Support Gear
A Pro Hero will wear a distinguishing costume that helps the public to recognize them and distinguish them from other Heroes. Costumes come in a wide variety, from bodysuits, to spacesuits, to armor, depending on the abilities and style preferences of the wearer.
Costumes are generally tailored specifically to the Hero their made for, in order to amplify their abilities and weaken their drawbacks. Costumes tend to come with support gear that can augment the wears skills and powers. A Costume can also limit or remove the downsides of the wearers Quirk.
Support companies and genius scientists are the masterminds behind creating Costumes for Heroes. There are even school classes that specifically teach students about the creation and maintenance of support gear, such as the Support Course at U.A. High School.
- #20Hero Licenseselective
Keys: License, Hero License
A Hero License is a certification that allows Pro Heroes to use their Quirks freely. In order to obtain a Hero License, one must complete all three years of heroics education in high school.
The act of using ones Quirk in public without a license is illegal, even if they use it to save lives or stop criminals. Quirks are seen as too dangerous for untrained civilians without a license to use, as there is a significant risk of unintentionally hurting someone or damaging property.
- #21Hero Networkselective
Keys: HN, Hero Network
The Hero Network, also referred to as the "HN", is a website that can only be accessed by Pro Heroes. It contains activity reports of Pro Heroes across the country, as well as information on known Villains, including their names and Quirks.
Heroes can also use the Hero Network to send requests for assistance to other Heroes who possess a Quirk that may be useful for a determined crisis.
- #22Villain Insuranceselective
As the name suggests, Villain Insurance is a form of financial indemnity that covers damages and destruction caused by villains whenever a Hero fights or is in the process of capturing one. It is described as a must-have for any hero. Despite this, the coverage this insurance provides is still limited (this is especially true for Heroes with highly destructive Quirks).
- #23Japanese Hero Billboard Charts (Hero Rankings)selective
Keys: Billboard Charts, rank, Hero rank, Hero Rankings, Rankings, Hero ranking, Ranking, Japanese Hero Billboard Charts
Biannually, all Heroes and Hero Teams in Japan are ranked by an event called the Japanese Hero Billboard Charts. The rating is determined by various factors, including a Hero's level of strength, number of resolved incidents, contributions to society, and public approval. An event is held to introduce the top 10 Heroes to the public.
The higher a Hero ranks on the charts, the higher their wages and the greater their prestige, allowing them to build bigger agencies and spread their influence. The top 10 Heroes in particular are known all across the country. It is these rankings and the chance to climb higher that serves as motivation for many Pro Heroes and numerous Hero students desire to one day hold the title of No. 1, or at least work as a Sidekick for one of the top 10.
All Might used to be the No. 1 Hero until his retirement, after which Endeavor unofficially assumed the No. 1 spot. Endeavor officially became the No. 1 Hero only after it was announced at the event.
The ratings presented at the event are the overall rankings and the individual factors that determine them may contrast the rankings.
Note: Only officially licensed Pro Heroes are ranked. Students with or without Provisional Licenses are not ranked. Villains are not ranked. Vigilantes are not ranked.
- #24"Plus Ultra"selective
Keys: Go Beyond, Plus Ultra
A common phrase among students and Heroes, "Plus Ultra" means to go above and beyond and/or to exceed limits. (Example sentence: "You can do it! Plus Ultra!")
- #25Villainsselective
Keys: Crime, Villain, Villains, Hero, Villainy, Heroes
Villains are people who use their Quirks to commit crimes, cause destruction, and potentially put innocent lives at stake. There are many different types of Villains in the world, including thieves, murderers, drug dealers, hate groups, and terrorists. The crime rate committed by Villains is quite low as a result of being pressurized by the huge amount of Heroes.
When All Might retired, there was a large resurgence of villainy. Bygone groups tried reclaim their power, while a new generation had their own visions for society. The League of Villains established themselves as Japan's greatest threat.
- #26Eraser Headselective
Keys: Eraserhead, Shota, Eraser, Professor, Sensei, Teacher, Aizawa, Teach, Erasure Hero, Eraser Head
Shota Aizawa, also known as the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head, is a Pro Hero and the homeroom teacher of U.A. High School's Class 1-A.
Shota is a slender and tall, pale-skinned man with messy, shoulder-length black hair that partially hangs in front of his face and half-opened black eyes. He is usually recognized for his worn-out appearance,[3][4] often looking fatigued. His facial hair is almost always in a stubbly, unkempt state (unless he needs to look good for the press), and his eyes tired and flat unless he's in combat.
He sports a baggy black outfit that consists of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants that tuck into his boots. He also wears a utility belt and his signature wrap scarf at all times. He hides a pair of bright yellow goggles underneath his scarf for when he needs to use them in battle.
Shota is a very stern and reserved man who has lofty expectations of his students. He is primarily motivated by logic and does not believe in the necessity to maintain a clean-cut appearance or filter his words or ideas for others. He often comes off as cold, apathetic, and impatient, exerting very little energy in most situations.
As a teacher with notoriously high expectations, Shota is known to expel students who he feels are not suited for U.A. High. However, it's revealed that this high expulsion rate is only on paper and that he actually re-enrolls the students he expels: Shota does this so they can experience "death" once, giving them an experience that drives them to push even higher. Although it is noteworthy that he has not expelled any students from Class 1-A yet, despite being well-known for doing so. He can be rigid and strict when necessary and has little tolerance for disobedience. Shota is not afraid of putting his students through rigorous training and often pushes the more unpleasant parts of Heroism, so that his students can overcome their limits.
Shota has proven to be very vocal and unafraid when expressing his ideas. He has mentioned on several occasions that some of U.A.'s choices when it comes to examinations are not practical or challenging enough for real Hero hopefuls and is adamant about having certain systems used by the institution changed. He is also known for lying to his students in order to manipulate them into giving their best, a technique he describes as a 'logical ruse'/'rational deception'.
Despite his apathetic traits, Shota genuinely cares about his students and will go to great lengths to protect them. Despite his personality, Shota has shown on several occasions that he is not completely devoid of joy or humor: he often grins whenever he is impressed by one of his students or after he tricks them with one of his 'rational deceptions'.
Overall Abilities: Shota has demonstrated incredible combat prowess and ingenuity that makes him one of the most formidable teachers and Pro Heroes at U.A. High. Shota's usual battle tactic consists of canceling an opponent's Quirk and then using his Capturing Weapon in conjunction with his high agility to easily defeat or restrain his adversaries. Even without the aid of his Quirk, Shota relies on his proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, excelling in close quarters combat. His overall abilities make him a pivotal combatant in situations that involve his opponents being solely Quirk-reliant, and with the Erasure Hero creating openings by negating their powers in the midst of battle, him and his comrades are put into advantageous positions.
Binding Cloth: Shota fights by ensnaring and/or immobilizing his opponents with his capturing weapon, and can also use it for mobility by swinging on walls and surfaces. As highly proficient he is at using this fighting style, Shota stated that it took him six years to learn and develop it from absolute scratch. This style of combat synchronizes well with his Erasure Quirk, as he can nullify the Quirks of his opponents while being able to restrain and defeat them.
Immense Stamina: On multiple occasions, Shota was able to keep fighting on even after suffering significant and painful injuries.
Keen Intellect: Eraser Head had been seen to have keen observation and evaluation skills. He can easily evaluate his student's personalities and their mental state. He is an expert on collaborating his equipment and Quirk with one another. In battle, Eraser Head uses goggles in conjunction with his Quirk to prevent enemies from figuring out who he's looking at, and keep them guessing. He also quickly creates strategies for dealing with different types of enemies, even those who are immune to his Quirk. In addition, he can meticulously discern the mechanics behind people's abilities after witnessing them performed once.
Teaching Ability: While Shota had his reservations about becoming a teacher, it is clear that his time at U.A. has turned him into an effective educator in the Hero Course. Shota employs a strict, straight to the point and no nonsense approach to Heroics, reminding his students of the responsibilities they will have as Pro Heroes. One of his recurring methods is introducing dire consequences should his students fail (like the threat of expulsion) which he dubs as "rational deceptions" in order to push his students to do their very best. Alongside the other teachers at U.A., Shota has managed help train Class 1-A to become a powerful group of heroes in training. Furthermore, Shota came up with the method of expelling and re-enrolling his students as to teach them not to confuse self-sacrifice with throwing one's life away.
Quirk: 'Erasure': Shota's Quirk gives him the ability to nullify another person's Quirk by looking at the user. The effects of this Quirk can still last even if Shota's line of vision is out of range.
While powerful, this ability has many drawbacks:
Erasure deactivates if Shota blinks. His Quirk gives Shota a bad dry eye, forcing him to blink more often when he uses the power continuously. Most Mutant-type Quirks are immune to 'Erasure', given that these Quirks are often passively active in a way that can't be negated. 'Erasure' has zero effect on any strength or abilities that don't originate from Quirks. 'Erasure' makes Shota's hair stand on end while it is active, allowing his enemies to see when his Quirk is active or not. This Quirk has no offensive potential. The Quirk Factor lies within Shota's eyes, so if one or both are damaged or destroyed, he cannot effectively use 'Erasure'.
Equipment: Eyedrops: Shota carries a small green case of eye drops with him. He uses them to treat the dry eye caused by keeping his eyes open too long.
Capturing Weapon: Eraser Head's weapon of choice is a cloth made from steel wire alloy woven with carbon nanofibers. Eraser Head can manipulate this Capturing weapon as if it were a soft, malleable cloth, however it is impossibly durable and can bind people and objects with nearly indomitable strength.
