Umas are human who possess horse traits and features. They have horse ears in place of human ears and have a tail that matches their hair color. They possess incredible speed and stamina, far beyond that of a human and comparable with that of a real-life horse.

Umas are well-known among mankind and appear to be greatly adored by them as well. They are considered a normal part of society with no caveats, and culture, society, and technology has evolved with them in mind. For example, roads feature dedicated umas lanes, and telephones exist with long-necked receivers to reach a umamusume's ears at the top of her head. The Umas are like elves; they grow quickly to the minimum age to start participating in races, but they age slowly like elves. Umas are not only involved in racing; some are involved in things like coaching, being idols, engineers, etc.

    Entry settings

Enji Todoroki is a renowned NCESC coach known for his harsh, disciplined training methods. He often clashes with Toshinori Yagi in an intense rivalry, striving to prove his Umas superior. Obsessed with surpassing Yagi, Enji hoped for a daughter to train, but instead had a son, Toya, an Uma with talent but weak legs prone to injury. Concerned for Touya's health, Enji reluctantly shifted focus, which hurt their relationship.

To pursue his dream, Enji had three more children. Fuyumi and Natsuo, an Uma girl and a human boy, lacked athletic potential. Finally, Shoto, an Uma boy with exceptional ability, became Enji’s new hope. This strained family dynamics, especially with Touya, who longed for his father’s approval. Though Enji now trains Touya again and seeks to reconcile, old wounds linger, causing frequent clashes between them. People also know him as Endeavor, a nickname that started out as a joke.

12. #12Toshinori Yagi

Despite his physical setbacks, Toshinori is a dedicated and kind trainer, deeply committed to the well-being of the Umas he mentors. His strict yet supportive approach often mirrors that of his rival, Enji Todoroki, with tough training routines disguised by his approachable demeanor. Under his guidance is Izuku Midoriya, better known as Deku—a rising star whose potential seems to mirror the brilliance Toshinori once embodied.

Known for his dangerous "half-cold, half-hot" technique, he is a master of the late-surger strategy. At the start of the race, Shoto hangs at the back of the pack in his "half-cold" stance, conserving energy and meticulously analyzing his opponents. Then, as the final curve approaches, he shifts to "half-hot," unleashing a devastating sprint with explosive speed that propels him past his competitors to claim victory at the finish line. Shoto is a runner who runs using the late-surger style.

Though he cares deeply for his siblings, mother, and friends, Shoto remains distant toward his father, Enji, reflecting their complicated relationship. He is a student at the U.A. in class C, and is one of the prodigies of his class.

14. #14Toya Todoroki

He specializes in Sprint and Mile races as a front runner, dominating early with his aggressive pace. His signature ability, Blueflame, kicks in during the final curve. With a reckless burst of speed, he accelerates far beyond the pack, giving everything he has to secure victory. However, it leaves him drained and his legs trembling, often finishing races on the verge of collapse.

He loves his siblings and mother but feels resentment toward his father and envy of Shoto for receiving Enji’s attention. Despite this, Touya strives to mend his relationship with his father while pushing himself beyond his physical limits. He is a student at the U.A. in class B. He has white hair and legs with scars.

15. #15Izuku Midoriya

    Keys: Izuku Midoriya, Izuku, Deku

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Izuku Midoriya, known by his runner name as Deku, is a male Uma specializing in medium and long-distance races. As an end closer, he stays at the back of the pack, analyzing opponents and conserving energy before unleashing One for All, a powerful sprint fueled by his leg strength and willpower. The technique, taught to him by Toshinori Yagi, lets him surge from last to first, though it strains his fragile legs.

Born with weak legs, Izuku was told he had no future as a runner, but he refused to give up. Inspired by All Might, the legendary Uma who shaped his dream, he trains tirelessly under Toshinori’s guidance. Though Toshinori is no longer the great All Might, he saw potential in Izuku and passed down the One for All technique.

Despite his physical limits, Izuku’s perseverance and strategy make him a rising star. A student in Class C at U.A., his drive inspires everyone around him.

At U.A. Derby Academy, Keigo is a standout prodigy in Class A and a student council member, though he’s notorious for shirking his responsibilities in favor of personal pursuits. Despite this, his charisma and talent secure his place as one of the academy’s brightest stars.

    • Pre-OP (Pre-Open Class): These are races for debutants or Umas with little experience. This is where a mare begins her professional career after her debut. Think of it as a "rookie league". This is for those who haven't earned much money or official points yet.
    • OP (Open Class): Races open to competitors who have already surpassed the beginner level but are not yet on the high-level circuit. They serve to gain experience and accumulate prizes/money in order to participate in graded races.
    • GIII (Grade 3): This is where the "grade" races begin. They are nationally competitive, but not as prestigious as GII or GI races. They attract good runners and already have larger audiences. Winning here means that the horse is officially competitive at the professional level.
    • GII (Grade 2): Very important races, with high prize money and elite rivals. They usually serve as qualifiers or preparation for GI races. The competition here is already against experienced champions. Winning a GII is a great achievement, but the real goal is to move up to GI.
    • GI (Grade 1): The highest level. These are the most prestigious, famous races with the biggest prizes. Here are legendary events such as the Japan Cup, the Arima Kinen, the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby), etc. Winning a GI puts the horse in history and secures its status as a star.

Trained by Tsunagu Hakamada (Best Jeanist), battles to balance his arrogance with discipline. While popular for his raw talent, he’s been humbled at U.A. Derby, where stronger rivals push him to improve. Inspired by All Might, Bakugo races to prove he’s the best and surpass his hero. He is in class C., and is one of the prodigies of his class.

19. #19Zen Shigaraki

Keys: Zen Shigaraki, All for one, AFO, Zen

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Zen Shigaraki, known as AFO, is a shadowy figure in the Uma racing world, infamous for his corrupt influence. Using bribery and manipulation, he controls judges, coordinators, and trainers, orchestrating race-day sabotage to dominate the sport.

He also leads the black market, trafficking illegal drugs and stimulants that boost Uma performance—enhancing stamina, reflexes, and explosive power—at the cost of severe physical and psychological damage. He’s also infamous for the illegal sale and exploitation of Umas themselves. AFO organizes brutal underground races filled with dangerous obstacles, minimal rules, and high-stakes betting, drawing in mafias, gamblers, and desperate Umas seeking quick fame.

AFO is hunted by the NCESC and Toshinori Yagi, whose career-ending accident was orchestrated by him. Despite Toshinori’s efforts weakening his empire, AFO remains a dangerous force, his shadow still looming over the world of Uma racing. AFO and his brother were the first male Umas, although very few people know about his Uma nature, since he hides his tail and ears.

20. #20Tenko Shimura

    Keys: Tenko Shimura, Shigaraki Tomura

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Tenko Shimura, known by his runner name as Shimura, a male Uma, endured a difficult childhood under his father, Kotaro, who despised Uma racing after being abandoned by his mother, Nana Shimura. Tenko admired racers but was punished harshly when he learned of his heritage, driving him to run away. He was adopted by AFO, renamed Tomura Shigaraki, and forced into illegal races under brutal training.

Rescued by Toshinori Yagi and the NCESC, Tenko now races to honor his family’s legacy while battling the trauma of his past. Specializing in Mile and Medium races, he uses End Closer and Pace Chaser strategies. His ability, "Decay", is a high-risk, aggressive sprint that propels him forward in the final stretch, allowing him to overtake opponents at blistering speed. However, the strain of the sprint poses a serious risk to his health if not executed perfectly.

Known as the "destroyer of dreams", Tenko struggles to stand out early in races but shocks with his aggressive finishes, often defeating beloved Umas. Though not widely liked, his determination and dramatic comebacks earn him respect on the track. Tenko is a kind and empathetic runner, though his trauma often surfaces in bouts of frustration, anxiety, and emotional instability. He is a student at the U.A. in class B. He has black hair and scars on his body.

21. #21Ribbon

Keys: armband, Ribbon on the tail

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

It is an old tradition that has been kept alive to this day. It used to be a colored ribbon that was tied to the Umas' tails, although that has changed and now most of them wear an armband.

    • Red: If the ribbon or armband is red, it indicates that the Uma is aggressive, short-tempered, problematic, etc. for example, Bakugo wears an armband of this color.
    • Green: If the ribbon or armband is green, it means that the Uma is young, inexperienced and maybe unpredictable. In fact, all Class C students wear these ribbons or armbands.
    • Blue: If the ribbon or armband is blue, it means that the Uma has a mental or physical disability, and it also indicates those who have weak legs or are prone to injury. For example, Toya has an armband of this color, and even Deku, who in addition to having a green armband, also has this blue one. This is so that doctors can be attentive to the Uma with these ribbons or armbands of this color in races in case something happens to them and they can be treated quickly.
    • White: This ribbon or armband was discontinued a long time ago and was used to indicate that a Uma was for sale, for obvious reasons, and society's evolution is not concerned with this nowadays. It is only used on the black market.
    • Pink: This ribbon and/or armband is only worn by female Umas and means that the Uma is looking for a partner.
    • Yellow: This ribbon and/or armband in this color was recently created when more male Umas began to appear. Only male Umas occupy it; this color means that male Umas are looking for a partner.

He is currently retired and lives in a secluded place with Toshitsugu Kudo, a male Uma and the first person he trained.
