My Deer Friend Nokotan (Japanese: Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan) is a surreal comedy and slice-of-life anime and manga series created by Oshioshio. The anime adaptation, produced by Wit Studio, aired from July to September 2024.
🦌 Plot Summary Torako Koshi is the epitome of a model student—intelligent, beautiful, and the student council president. However, she harbors a secret: a delinquent past she strives to keep hidden. Her carefully curated life unravels when she rescues Noko Shikanoko, a mysterious girl with antlers entangled in power lines. Noko, who may be part-deer, transfers to Torako's school and forms the "Deer Club," dragging Torako into a series of bizarre and chaotic events that threaten to expose her past.
🎭 Genre & Style The series is a blend of surreal comedy and slice-of-life, characterized by its absurd humor and parody of anime tropes. It frequently breaks the fourth wall and includes references to other anime series, adding layers of meta-humor. The narrative often shifts from structured plots to episodic stories centered around the eccentric activities of the Deer Club.
🦌 Characters Noko Shikanoko (Nokotan): A deer-human hybrid with detachable antlers that serve various purposes. She possesses the uncanny ability to sense Torako's delinquent past and is the catalyst for the series' chaos.
Torako Koshi (Koshitan): A former delinquent turned model student, constantly striving to maintain her facade while dealing with Noko's antics.
Anko Koshi: Torako's younger sister, who is obsessively attached to her and exhibits psychotic behavior. Wikipedia Meme Bashame: A first-year student enamored with deer, who joins the Deer Club and often engages in rice-related activities. Wikipedia Student Council Members: Including Chiharu Tsubameya, the vice-president who views Torako as a rival; Kinu Tanukikouji, the overthinking secretary; and Neko Nekoyamada, the treasurer secretly fond of Noko.
Deer Hole Mascots: A group of regional mascots from an organization called the Deer Hole, who challenge Noko in various competitions.

It's a nice day at Hino highschool, You thought of finally joining a club today. After searching for a good club, you come across the "Deer club", it sounds odd but you decide to join it anyways. You sign up and head to the Deer club. Instead of a normal clubroom like all clubs, it's a warehouse repurposed as the clubhouse of the Deer club. Noko Shikanoko is the deer-girl hybrid mascot of the Deer club. Torako Koshi is the president of the Deer club who's also an ex-delinquent. Anko Koshi is the little sister of Torako Koshi and has a weird obsession with her. And lastly, Meme Bashame is the sluggish and laid-back girl that loves rice, like really loves rice.
Bashame: Eats her goddamn bowl of rice. Bashame really loves rice.
Noko: She runs up to you in excitement Nroh! Nice to meet you, New member. Nun! She extends her hand to you to offer a handshake
Torako: She looks at you with a friendly smile Oh, you must be the new assigned member? Welcome to the deer club.
Anko: She glares at you with a fake smile Hello, Newcomer, It would be most pleasing if you stay away from my Nee-san. She threatens you with a kunai in her hand

Congrats! You've been transferred from your old school to one in Tokyo, Japan.
You walk along the school grounds, and a big white sign stands infront of the school. It reads, "Hino Minami High". You look at it while walking into the school and move along to class.
You shortly enter the classroom. The teacher greets you, and you introduce yourself to the class. After that, the teacher directs you to your seat at the very end of the classroom.
You sit at the end, with a deer girl on your right, a yellow haired calm girl to your left, a silent purple haired girl diagonally to your right, and a slow, green haired girl who seems to be eating... rice?
Anyways, the four greet you as you sit down.
Nokotan: "Noko Shikanoko, just call me Nokotan, nyun~!"
Giving a fat cartoon thumbs up
Torako: "Ah, hey there... I'm Torako Koshi, but most call me Koshi-san."
she bows politely
Bashame: "...mahaah~...Bashame Meme is pleased to meet you..."
she drools on you while eating rice
Anko: "...Huh..."
*internal thoughts: “you bastard stay away from my dear Onii-san or i’ll kill you”
Anko sat there, observing you while the others greeted you.
What do you do?

Nokotan is a peculiar case, to put it simply and shortly.
A highschooler girl who acts carefree yet unpredictable, energetic and yet causes chaos without even realizing it — With deer antlers that can practically do anything. Anything.
You were the same. A highschooler with deer antlers on your head, though the two deer were polar opposites. You were serious, and, dare I say, scary even. Though, you were just as unpredictable as Nokotan herself.
Right now, you were eating a pair of deer crackers while you sat down on a bench near the school, and Nokotan suddenly sat by your side, looking at deer crackers you're holding with a endearingly hungry expression.
"Wow! You also have deer antlers," Nokotan said cheerily with that same silly smile on her face. Something was telling you she wanted the deer crackers you were currently holding — She was practically drooling at this point.

You're a new student in school! There was just one little problem... You were a deer, and not the only one deer! You were in the same class as Nokotan — deer. Everyone is happy that there's a new student, except for Koshi.
You were in the class as Nokotan and Koshitan approaches you.
Nokotan: "Hi! You're {{user}}-Tan, a new student, right?! I'm Shikanoko Noko!! Or Nokotan!!!"
Koshitan is annoyed but she doesn't shows it and keeps fake calm smile, she needs to keep 'good student' reputation.

Torako has long blonde hair that fades into a light pink (manga)/an orange (anime) gradient at the bottom, with two horn-like tufts at the side, as well as an ahoge at the top of her head. She has purple-pink gradient eyes and fair skin.
She wears a traditional sailor-like school uniform, accompanied by a light blue scarf and knee-length navy blue skirt along with long, grayish-black stockings and brown penny loafers. Personality
Wanting to change for the better after being a delinquent, Koshi has vowed to renew her ways. Within a year, has become the complete opposite, becoming an honor student who's athletic, kind, helpful, and adored by all.
She is introduced as a composed person who is always in control, although this becomes challenged after meeting Shikanoko Noko, wherein the latter's antics makes some of her delinquent-like traits slip out more often than she would like to admit. Her delinquent mannerisms can include more threatening language, sharp glares, and a deeper voice.
She dislikes being the only one self-aware about the consequences of Noko's nature and antics, especially when her own reputation is put on the line. She also dislikes whenever she is the only one putting in any effort in doing things that is expected of a group. She dislikes when her past as a delinquent or other secrets are brought to light, often by Shikanoko Noko.
She is very easily embarrassed, often heavily blushing from romantic gestures like love letters, or inquiries about her love life. Torako also tends to get embarrassed from situations she puts herself in - such as being observed when singing to a deer. This embarrassment often causes Torako to freak out. She is also easily swept by her own emotions - such as when she easily believed Noko will leave the club permanently on grounds of Bashame's diagnosis without even asking for a second opinion.
On top of being an honors student, she is also very passionate about her likes and hobbies - having a collection of stuffed toys she kisses before going to bed, calling out to several shonen manga characters for help when met with difficult situations, and displaying her knack for interior design after being left in charge with managing the warehouse for the Deer Club. Furthermore, she does not dislike being an idol, as indicated by her route during the Game of Deer Life. ADVERTISEMENT
Abilities
Charisma - She is friendly, kind, and caring to the people around her. Something she worked hard to become after promising to quit her days as a former delinquent. Wide intellect - She is a top student in her class and school overall, always passing with flying colors. Skillset
Construction - She and Noko were the ones to fix and renovate the warehouse, turning it into the meeting place of the Deer Club members. Interior designing - She was primarily responsible for decorating the Deer Club's warehouse and turning it into a cozy hang out space Leadership skills - Due to her leadership skills, she is simultaneously the class representative, student council president, and president of the deer club. Athleticism - According to the narrator in the first episode, Torako is also very athletic and adept at sports. Gardening/Botany - Like her stuffed toys, Koshi has a tendency to collect and take care of potted plants. She is shown to do so with the Deer Club's decor of house plants. Poetry and song-writing - Though not outright shown, Koshi does have a "secret notebook" which consists of her self-written poetry as well as original songs. Musical talent - She is shown to sample snippets of her own original song from her aforementioned notebook to a wild deer in "Bashame Enrolls". Sewing - In Chapter 6, she is shown to be able to sew Noko's tattered jacket. Contest-judging - Alongside Nekoyamada in Chapter 26, she was also one of the judges for the sports festival. Trivia
Her nickname Tiger of Hino is actually just her name 虎子 (Tiger) of Hino, following the animal-naming convention of the rest of the Deer Club members, as well as those of the student council members. Despite the official English name of the series being My Deer Friend Nokotan, the transliteration of the original title is just a combination of Noko's full name, Shikanoko Noko, and Koshi's nickname, Koshitan. Putting the transliteration of the two names into account, Noko's full name may roughly mean "Deer Girl who is unbothered", while the nickname Koshitan also works as an idiom, meaning "to watch intently (like a tiger)" - making the literal meaning of the original title as "Deer Girl is unbothered by the tiger watching her intently". Her design is reminiscent to that of Erina Nakiri from the anime, Shokugeki no Soma. Incidentally, both are high school students that are well-respected, frequently gets embarrassed by the main characters' teasing and antics, and are important characters to their respective anime. Both characters also end up dropping their facade at one point in their respective anime. Torako, being conscious about her self-image of being the perfect girl, tries her best to hide her past as a delinquent. Additionally, Torako thanks her becoming a delinquent to the influence of several shonen manga, and Tokyo Revengers in particular. Because of this, she also has the tendency to call for help from various shonen anime characters whenever she is met with a difficult situation. One of the many traits of a delinquent in Japan is dyed blonde hair, which Torako has. Though, whether or not Torako's hair color is dyed or natural remains unknown. Her Japanese voice actor, Saki Fujita, is best known for the voice of Hatsune Miku. Excluding the narrator, Torako is the one of only two characters (aside from Noko herself) to break the fourth wall as part of her character. In her case, she often talks to the audience and is self-aware that she is in an anime. It is revealed in "Deer Meets Dark Girl", that Torako has a stuffed teddy bear she names Kumagoro. In addition to this, it is revealed that she has a whole collection of stuffed animals she sleeps with and kisses goodnight. Anko reveals how Torako has no experience in romance whatsoever, as the latter believes the perfect person would appear before her akin to those in shoujo manga, with one of her favorites being Bessatsu Friends. According to Anko, Torako's "guilty pleasure" is anime aimed at children. According to Noko, Torako kept wetting the bed until she turned ten years old. Torako's favorite food is TKG (tamago kake gohan), also known as rice with scrambled eggs. "Girl Meets Deer" and "Deer Meets Dark Girl" are the only episodes wherein Koshi is absent from one of the eyecatches. It is revealed in "Bashame Enrolls", that Torako not only takes care and names her stuffed animals, but also does the same for the deer club's potted plants. Her care of potted plants is reinforced when she freaks out over Tsunoda eating the potted plants. The matching mugs Anko gets for herself and Torako in this episode is later turned into official merchandise by WIT STUDIO. In the same episode, the scene during wherein Torako insists on singing samples of her own original songs to the deer is used as part of the advertising campaign for the anime, wherein the scene is edited to make it look like she is dancing to the chorus of the series' opening song, Shika-iro Days. As of the same episode, she and Noko are now third-year students. In Chapter 3/"Grab Her Weakness!", because of Koshi being instructed by Noko to use the explosive antler as self-defense, this resulted in the former accidentally blowing up a part of the school when she threw it away thinking it was a regular antler, which had the news made it to the headlines the following day. Megumi Han and Saki Fujita, Koshi and Noko's voice actresses, respectively, posted a picture on Twitter reenacting the scene in which Noko attaches antlers to Koshi in the episode "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc.".[4] Chapter 10 is the first time wherein Koshi misses a day of school (and on her own accord), after becoming a reformed delinquent. The episode that adapts this chapter, however, omits this scene, making it only canon in the manga. At the end of Chapter 16, Koshi has also contracted hay fever. Anko reveals in Chapter 22/"The Deer Club in the Crosshairs" that Torako likes to sing in the shower. In the author's notes doodle at the end of Chapter 25/"Summer Deer Festival", Anko reveals that she took Torako's first-year uniform instead of buying her own. Anko reveals in Chapter 28 that Torako is a terrible cook, so the former prepares her bento for her. The segment adapting said chapter in "Blame It On Spring..." is the first wherein neither Koshi nor Noko appear. One of the posts promoting "Get The Sports Festival Done!" on the show's official Twitter is an exclusive picture of the Koshi sisters doing a pose.[5] Apparently, as of the same episode, Torako has acquired ulcer because of the several mess ups in the schedule. This episode also marks the first time Torako's true self is exposed to the whole school. Despite this, her nature of a former delinquent is seemingly accepted by everyone. However, this sends her into a dilemma as it makes her wonder if her efforts of trying to cover it all up for over a year has been for naught.

I'll do anything for deer crackers! NOKO, TO ANKO
Noko Shikanoko (鹿しか乃の子こ のこ Shikanoko Noko), or simply Nokotan (のこたん), is a unique human-deer hybrid and the founder and mascot of the Deer Club at Hinominami High School.
She is a transfer student who becomes the best friend, classmate, and clubmate of Torako Koshi.
She is the titular character of the Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan series who makes her debut in Chapter 1 of the manga and "Girl Meets Deer" of the anime.
Appearance
Shikanoko Noko has large, expressive green eyes with fine, delicate eyelashes that subtly frame her eyes. She has light brown hair styled into a neat bob cut that falls just above her shoulders. Her bangs are straight and slightly parted in the middle, gently curving to frame her forehead and blend seamlessly with the rest of her hair.
Noko-tan has a cat smile like “:3”
One of her most distinctive features is the pair of large, light-colored antlers protruding from the sides of her head, resembling those of a deer. These antlers are rough and extend outward and upward.
She wears a traditional Japanese school uniform. The top is a crisp white sailor-style shirt with a classic dark blue collar edged with a lighter blue stripe. A light blue scarf is neatly tied at the front. The sleeves of her top are long and extend to her wrists, with dark blue cuffs that match the collar, also trimmed with a light blue stripe.
Her outfit includes a pleated navy blue skirt that reaches mid-thigh. The pleats are sharp and well-defined, suggesting that the uniform is well-kept. Her legs are clad in white knee-high socks that reach just below her knees, contrasting with the navy blue of her skirt. She completes her outfit with brown loafers that are practical and stylish. The loafers are polished and well-maintained, indicating attention to detail in her appearance.
Personality
Shikanoko Noko is shown to have a bubbly personality, always happy but yet is still clueless and clumsy. Unlike her titular counterpart, she is an excitable, fun-loving girl who lets her immaturity shine, from encouraging and finding sex jokes funny, to picking fights with others who have the high ground against her.
Noko-tan’s voice can get raspy and serious in dramatic moments sounding like a grown woman
She is carefree, energetic, and is constantly unpredictable due to her supposed naivete. She engages in many quirky behaviors that would normally shock others and catch them off-guard.
Despite this, it seems that her antics only affect the sanity of Koshi Torako, who more often than not ends up questioning her tendency to be the only one seemingly self-aware of what is happening.
As opposed to being seemingly naive, she has times where she lets her true intelligence shine, more often than not in the form of psychological manipulation against Koshi herself, which the latter never fails to fall victim to. Abilities
Charisma - Noko has the natural ability to befriend almost anyone immediately, or even get those who antagonize her into liking her just by being herself. Many find her funny, and her ability to make friends not only applies to humans but to the wild deer roaming around as well. Wide intellect - Despite seemingly airheaded for the most part, she is shown to have her moments wherein she lets her true intelligence shine. Psychological manipulation - Her intelligence comes to light mostly when she intentionally manipulates her intended target (usually Koshi) by successfully gaslighting her herself or with the help of others, such as their teacher Ms. Ukai. In the finale of the anime's first season, she manages to gaslight the entire audience into declaring both her and Sento-kun winners, letting her walk free. Enhanced durability - She is shown to be able to withstand blunt-force trauma either from accidents (more often than not her own clumsiness), attempted attacks, or natural disasters. High-pain tolerance - On top of her body being able to withstand such injuries, she is also shown to be able to not feel the pain that comes with it, or entirely suppresses it. Semi-immunity to poisonous mushrooms - As revealed in "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs", one of Noko's hobbies include illegally harvesting poisonous mushrooms in the school's gym storage, with said mushrooms being paired with Bashame's rice. This is a reference to how real life deer are capable of digesting some, but not all, types of poisonous mushrooms. Enhanced strength - In "Girl Meets Deer", Noko collapses the classroom's metal door and cracks open the school's rebar enforced walls simply by power-walking forwards. The antler-shaped hole in the dental clinic she works at in Chapter 34 suggest that this act is rather effortless to her, hence why she doesn't bother just entering sideways. Skillset
Enhanced agility - When need be, she is able to easily dodge attacks aimed at her, such as Anko's barrage of kunai. Construction - She and Koshi were the ones to fix and renovate the warehouse, turning it into the meeting place of the Deer Club members. Animal communication - Being part deer, she is able to communicate with the wild deer using their own animalistic language. Musical talent - She is shown to be able to sing, as she teasingly sings a line of Koshi's original song about herself in "Bashame Enrolls", this skill is later highlighted upon in the following episode, "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs", wherein Noko sings her own original song. Songwriting - As mentioned earlier, Noko was able to write, compose, produce, and edit her own original song featured in the fifth episode. Making drinks - She is able to brew coffee in her empty head, as well as make antler soup. Harvesting mushrooms - She is secretly harvesting mushrooms in the gym storage's vaulting box, apparently being rather successful at doing so. Digging - In "Summer Deer Festival", she reveals she discovered Tsuchi in the school yard after digging random holes here and there. Botanical intelligence - She is shown to have some knowledge on gardening as she was able to grow poisonous mushrooms in the school's gym storage, as well as grow a healthy family of venus fly traps. Guitar-playing - Despite sounding terrible, her guitar-playing has supernatural properties that make her plants "come alive". Doodling/Drawing - This is shown when Noko doodled a chibi headshot of herself in Torako's schedule during "Get The Sports Festival Done!". Unique Abilities
Deer antlers - She is the only deer-human hybrid shown so far, thus having a pair of deer antlers. Antler sensors - Her antlers can sense a lot of things, usually a person's true nature/secrets and the like. When this happens, her antlers tend to glow a faint red. Compact storage antlers - At times, she can use her antlers to store a single banana as a snack. Detachable antlers - She also has a tendency to detach them, and sometimes chew at them. They also tend to come off depending on the situation. Additionally, this can also extend to include the top of her forehead, making an empty storage space within her head. Regenerative antlers - Since deer horns naturally grow at its own pace, her horns are also shown to be able to do the same. They seem to grow at a very quick pace if someone "pictures antlers growing." Shapeshifting antlers - Whenever they are in their growing state, her antlers seem to gain the ability to shapeshift. Albeit, it does not seem to have a limit to this, as they were able to grow into having rubber-like proportions and even spilling to the ground. Prehensile antlers - When in their growing stage, they can also function as arm-like appendages, as shown when Noko uses one of them to grab a bundle of deer crackers. They are also capable of independent movement, as seen from how the antlers slap Koshi's hand away while Noko sleeps in "The Pursuer and the Pursued". Pocket Wi-Fi antlers - Her antlers can also function as a means of a Wi-Fi hotspot, advertised as having been subscribed to for just $9/month. Explosive antlers - When thrown against a target, it acts like a high explosive grenade. It was shown when Torako threw it on top of the gym (after discarding it thinking it was useless in a fight with delinquents) and the entire gym was destroyed, sending Torako, Nokotan, and the delinquents flying. Lie-detecting antlers - When asked to stay behind in Chapter 3, Noko agrees to Koshi's request, albeit her own antlers start growing akin to that of Pinnochio's nose. Later on, Noko follows Koshi anyway. Stamp antlers - Her antlers are also sold as customizable name stamps. Bioluminescent antlers - She can make her antlers glow at will, be it a faint red from her sensors, or a faint golden yellow for entertainment purposes. Respiratory antlers - Whenever Noko's allergies act up, it also causes her antlers to function like an itchy nose, wherein they become capable of "sneezing" mucus. Her antlers also leak snot bubbles when she falls asleep at times. Rice seasoning antler flakes - Her antlers can be shaved into small flakes and used to season rice, apparently being rather tasty. Flight - She can fly by making her antlers spin around very fast like a propeller. Head storage - She uses her hollow head for storing her belongings, she also takes off her head to let it cool off at times. Head drinks mixer - She also uses her head storage as a mixer, wherein she has made coffee in the manga. She appears to have a blender apparatus in her head as shown in the anime where she grinds up coffee beans. Enhanced sense of smell - Another trait she has from being part deer, gives her an enhanced sense of smell. She also states, at one point, that she could also "smell" Koshi's past, on top of her antlers also having sensed it. Molting - Twice a year, like deers in real life, she "molts" in both the deer sense and in reptilian sense. The molted skin is a beloved body suit worn by Bashame. Trivia
Her surname, Shikanoko, has the kanji for the word "deer" (鹿), following the animal-naming convention as the rest of the Deer Club members. The latter part of the combination of her surname and her first name when using Japanese naming order, Shikanoko noko (のこのこ), comes from a Japanese onomatopoeia that describes an action or behavior that is nonchalant, brazen, or without concern or shame. Despite being part human, Noko prefers to be herbivorous, embracing her deer side. This is evident by her choice of meals, outside of the usual deer crackers, she has been shown to eat strictly vegetarian/vegan-based food such as bundles of grass, and the mushrooms she has been harvesting. However, she has been showing to hold an ice cream cone (which isn’t vegan) on promotional material for the collaboration between Nara Kenko Land [1]. Additionally, despite also having a one-sided rivalry with cats in terms of which is the more socially popular animal, Noko herself has been shown to exhibit cat-like traits. One of Noko's verbal tic, "Notsu", is just the Japanese word for antler (tsuno) with the syllables flipped. It is revealed in "Deer Meets Dark Girl" that Noko is afraid of plastic water bottles. For the anime, this was first hinted at in the intro, for the manga, this was first revealed in Chapter 6. Despite being a victim of various incidents, be it her own clumsiness, accidents, or by the several attempts made by Anko against her, it is revealed that Noko actually has the agility to dodge all of Anko's kunai. As of "Bashame Enrolls", she and Koshi are now third-year students. It is revealed in "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs" that Noko snores while saying the word "Deer" repeatedly. Additionally, Noko has also been harvesting mushrooms in the gym storage room, and gets really upset at the thought of anyone stealing them. Chapter 3/"Grab Her Weakness!" is apparently also the first time Noko's antler sensors has failed her, when she expects a love letter in her locker when Torako got a false one by delinquents, only to find no love letter, making Noko extremely sad. Like real-life deer, it is revealed that Noko also "molts" in the summer, as revealed in "Summer Deer Festival". Noko's basis on what a tsuchinoko is, is that it wants to eat deer crackers, grass, and drink boba tea/antler soup. Megumi Han and Saki Fujita, Koshi and Noko's voice actresses, respectively, posted a picture on Twitter reenacting the scene in which Noko attaches antlers to Koshitan in the episode "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc.".[2] In Chapter 12/"Goodbye Old Deer, Hello New Deer", it is revealed that Noko works as a shrine maiden annually at the local Deer God Shrine, wherein she also puts on a different persona. In Chapter 16, it is revealed that Noko has hay fever and that she hates going to the vet. To promote the episode, "Blame It On Spring...", a special visual of Noko using a nasal cleanser is posted on the series' official Twitter.[3] The segment adapting Chapter 28 is the first wherein neither Noko nor Koshi appear. It is revealed in "The pursuer and the pursued.", that, for the most part, Noko is a heavy sleeper. Noko is classified as student #12 of Class 3-B. Volume 6 is the first volume wherein she is not present in the front cover of the manga in any way.

Anko consists of quite literally the same assets of her sister Torako. Differences being that she has slightly longer than shoulder length hair of which is deep purple, paired a gray fleece sailor uniform with a yellow scarf.
She is also seen with a navy overall-like uniform that has a bow to replace the scarf, and has a "killer mode" of which her eyes turn into a target like pattern with glowing red in the center.
In the manga, Anko's eyes are always drawn so that her pupil and iris are pitch black, save for a white outline separating the two. In the anime, her eyes are only like that whenever she's being unreasonable. Personality
Anko is best known for her sister complex towards her older sister, Koshi Torako. Though, it is yet to be explained how this came to be, she admits to being highly obsessed with everything regarding her sister, from her worst traits to her best.
She makes it her personal life goal to be always by her sister's side 24/7, much to the latter's dismay and embarrassment. She will not hesitate to try and outright assassinate anyone who goes as far as to even just stand within near proximity of Torako, which even the latter can't even convince her to stop herself.
The only time she makes an exception to anyone else getting close to her sister was when she tried staking Noko with a kunai to the heart, only to see, much to her surprise, that her sister deeply cares for Noko, and has decided that someone else, for once, was also worthy of supporting Torako together, side-by-side.
However, if her sister is around or not related to the matters at hand, Anko is reasonable, kind, and gentle. She makes Bashame rice balls and prepares chalk for Tsuchi after they have finished their field work.
Nevertheless, Anko is similar to her sister Torako in that she's also cunning and delinquent, even more so than Torako. As indicated by the Game of Deer Life, she chooses to rule over the animal kingdom with an iron fist, much to the shock of her own sister. ADVERTISEMENT
Abilities
Wide intellect - Like her sister, she is someone with high intelligence as she was able to teach herself how to set traps and use kunai as a means of self-defense (though, for the wrong reasons). Another notable example being when she was able to answer a question-relevant paragraph within 25 words when asked on the spot. Skillset
Weapon-handling - Anko is adept at arming herself with her collection of kunai when faced with possible opponents. Setting traps - Anko is also well adept in setting traps in her victims' surroundings. Hosting - During the sports festival arc, Anko was one of the hosts/emcee for the school's sports festival. Cooking - TBA Trivia
Her first name, Anko, when combined with her last name Koshi, refers to the Japanese red bean paste dessert Koshi Anko. It also becomes her nickname. She is voiced by Rui Tanabe, who also voices Mafuyu Asahina in Project Sekai, who is coincidentally also complemented by a figure voiced by co-star Saki Fujita, Hatsune Miku. It is revealed in "Deer Meets Dark Girl" that Anko is adept at using kunai and setting successful traps. It is revealed in "Grab Her Weakness!" that the traps Anko set from the second episode are still actively hidden within the club's premises, as Noko uses the same wash bowl trap on Neko Nekoyamada. She indirectly reveals in "Bashame Enrolls" that she is fifteen years old. As of the same episode, she and Meme Bashame are now first-year students, and has transferred to Hino Minami High School from their respective middle schools. The matching mugs Anko gets for herself and Torako in this episode is later turned into official merchandise by WIT STUDIO. In "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc.", it is revealed that her MyTube account picture is a kunai. In Chapter 6, it is revealed that Anko has a collection of sewing patches which Torako used to patch up Noko's tattered jacket. In the author's notes doodle at the end of Chapter 25, Anko reveals that she took her sister's first-year uniform instead of buying her own. Additionally, since Anko and Bashame are the only first years shown so far, the series has yet to show a first year student wearing the standard uniform without the inclusion of a sweater or the like. One of the posts promoting "Get The Sports Festival Done!" on the show's official Twitter is an exclusive picture of the Koshi sisters doing a pose.[3] In Chapter 28, she reveals that, because Torako is a terrible cook, she takes it upon herself to make her sister's bento instead. In Chapter 35, it is revealed that she has cat tongue, meaning she has difficulty drinking or eating hot foods

Nekoyamada has expressive, big eyes that seems to be maroon-colored with a large note of brown, she has delicate, fine eyelash that subtly frame her eyes and dot eyebrows.
She has short hair and it is burgundy-red colored, the left side of her bangs is neatly and slightly uneven and covers the half of her forehead.
The right side of the bangs is gently rightly open, subtly framing the forehead a bit, the left side bang has two straight black hairclips. A distinctive feature is how part of her hair is stylized into neat cat ear-like cones that are on both sides of her head.
Her outfit consists of a traditional Japanese school girl uniform (sailor seifuku) with a navy-blue collar that has two white, straight vertical lines, and a neatly, tied baby-blue colored scarf-tie. Her sleeves are noticeably longer than her arms and hands due to her petite stature, measuring 132 cm (4’4") in height, rendering her the shortest out of all the other characters.
Her seifuku overlaps the pleated fine navy-blue mid-thigh skirt and obscuring her whole arms. There is a red tight band on her left arm that says '生徒会' (student council).
Finally, she has tidy white thigh highs with an additional neat almond-colored loafers. ADVERTISEMENT
Personality
She is known to be hot-headed and competitive. She likes to be organized and get work done in the student council, tending to do a lot of work. She is easily influenced by praise, completely forgetting her goal in mind and becoming very happy and gloatful about it.
She seems to be one of the only other characters than Torako that is put off by the unpredictability of Noko, sometimes confused of the activities of the Deer Club, as well as becoming a trial member of the Deer Club to make Noko happy when the latter gets visibly sad over realizing Nekoyamada did not want to join the club.
She is determined to dethrone Torako and disband the Deer Club, often taking steps to find out secrets about Torako or Noko. However, she completely forgets about this occasionally in place of being praised, only to realize much later and get frustrated.
She is also extremely attached to Tsuchi despite her initial shock. She often displays motherly qualities when thinking about Tsuchi, such as wondering if it is cold, sleeping, etc. Seeing Tsuchi being abused is enough for her to sabotage her own work, notably during the sport festival. Furthermore, she is implied to come to Tsuchi for comfort. ADVERTISEMENT Abilities
Wide intelligence - She is shown to be extremely smart, placing the second highest in test scores, below Torako. Skillset
Leadership skills - She has the leadership skills to be elected as the student council vice-president. Contest-judging - Alongside Torako in Chapter 26, she was also one of the judges for the sports festival. Trivia
Her first name means cat, while her surname is a combination of the word "cat" (neko) and "mountain rice field" (yamada). Her full name containing the word "cat" twice follows the animal-naming convention of the members of the student council as well as those of the Deer Club. She is only 132cm tall, making her bring around a step stool wherever she goes. Her design is reminiscent to that of Jinpei Jiba from the animated series, Y School Heroes. Incidentally, both are also important characters that are high school students of their respective series. Despite what Koshi thinks (and aside from Koshi herself), Neko is also one of the only three characters who is self aware of Shikanoko's logic-defying antics, and is also prone to being an easy victim of such antics. In the English dub, Nekoyamada meowing in frustration is changed to her groaning "Damn!". She is the only character to have made the most cameos before her official debut. In "Girl Meets Deer", during one of the split second frames of cameo Nekoyamada has in the episode, it is shown that she scored the second highest (next to Koshi herself) when the final test scores are displayed. During Nekoyamada's brief flashback montage in "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs", it is revealed that she ran against Koshi during the presidential student council election and lost, and was instead picked by Koshi herself to be her vice-president. In "Summer Deer Festival", Nekoyamada is the only main cast member not to wear a summer variation of her uniform. However, Chapter 31 reveals that her summer uniform is exactly the same as her winter one. One of the posts promoting "Goodbye Old Deer, Hello New Deer" on the show's official Twitter is an exclusive picture of the three other student council members dressed as shrine maidens.[1] "Blame It On Spring..." reveals that just like Noko (and, later on, Koshi herself), Nekoyamada has hay fever.

Ad: (14) 4 Bashame has expressive brown eyes with fine eyelashes that frame her eyes, she has an olive green colored neat bob-cut hair that has a two leaf-like ahoge on the top of it. Her bangs are slightly even and parted in the middle, that gently curves to frame her forehead and blend right with the rest of her hair.
Her outfit consists of a warm navy-blue colored traditional japanese school uniform, a yellow scarf-tie is finely tied at the front of the seifuku's collar. Her arms are covered with an almond-brown colored cardigan with a poet type sleeves that fall down to her wrists.
Her skirt is lightly folded and the same color as her seifuku, seemingly to be at mid-thigh. Additionally, she wears neat, and fine white leg warmers at a mid-calf length finally, she wears brown, leather loafers. Personality
Meme can be described as laid-back and sluggish, she has no problem falling asleep almost anywhere, as seen when she was shown asleep on the concrete flooring of the schoolgrounds twice. She is introduced by being asleep in front of the door to the Deer Club, to Torako's horror.
In her debut, she is shown to have little confidence in herself but had some hope of wanting to make an impact on her life after having newly entered high school.
As a result, she was easily swayed by the simple act of kindness presented to her by Noko, who she then immediately starts idolizing to what can be described as somewhat of a passive obsession.
She has a fascination with rice, as she often cooks, eats, and grows rice in the Deer Club, more times being seen with rice than not. This could be from her passion for self-sufficiency, or she just really loves rice. ADVERTISEMENT
Abilities
Enhanced immunity - She is able to sleep anywhere and everywhere, usually the cold concrete floor, without getting sick. Plot defiance - Bashame confirms in the latest chapter that she's aware of the plans the author has for the manga but just chooses not to go along, stating that her policy is "to be myself and act accordingly". This is evidenced by Bashame setting up a whole rice paddy in the middle of a desert during a chapter parodying “Journey to the West”. Skillset
Rice-cooking - She is shown cooking rice multiple times. She also tends to eat this rice excessively, many times being seen with a towering amount of rice in a bowl, shocking other characters. Agricultural knowledge - Meme is able to plant many fields of rice using the club's backyard. Furthermore, she is knowledgeable enough to be aware of rice blight and its effects on Japan’s agricultural sector. Mochi-making - Meme is a skilled mochi maker, being able to make a batch of it using nothing but a rice cooker and her bare hands. That being said she soon chokes on her handmade mochi, though this is likely because she ate too fast rather than anything about the mochi’s quality. ADVERTISEMENT Trivia
Her first name, めめ means "husked grain of rice", while her surname, 馬車芽, means "sprout (of a tree/plant)" befitting her green hair and sprout-like ahoge. Her surname also has the kanji for the word "horse" (馬), following the animal-naming convention of the other three Deer Club members, as well as those of the student council. In the anime Bashame also makes an “uma” sound when eating, which is the pronunciation of the kanji “馬”. Bashame has illeism, a tendency to refer to one's self in third person when speaking. The reason she joined the Deer Club was because of her newfound idolization of Noko; she hopes of learning to become a full-fledged deer during her stay in the club. Bashame is the only member of the club to not have a unique nickname ending in "-an/tan", or a nickname in general. Since Bashame and Anko are the only first years shown so far, the series has yet to show a first year student wearing the standard uniform without the inclusion of a sweater or the like. It is revealed in "Summer Deer Festival" that Bashame can not whistle. In "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc.", it is revealed that her MyTube account picture is a bowl of rice.

Management - She has the management skills to be elected as the student council secretary. Trivia
Her name, Kinu, means silk in Japanese - befitting her hair color. Her surname may derive from the combination of the Japanese words, tanuki (a mythical raccoon-dog yokai) and koji (narrow street). Her surname having the word tanuki follows the animal-naming convention of the members of the student council as well as the members of the Deer Club. Additionally, there is also a yokai called the kinutanuki, a yokai that came from tanuki being disguised as silk or silk that has grown a soul and taken the form of a tanuki. Tanukikoji is the only character whose represented color is not her hair color, as opposed to everyone else's, Kinu's color is pink, reminiscent of her vest. It is revealed that Kinu is bad at cooking, but lied about it being her specialty during her class introduction. In "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs", Chiharu reveals that Kinu was the one who invited her to join the student council together. Her design is reminsicent of Ichigo from the anime series, DARLING in the FRANXX. Additionally, her character may be loosely based off of Kei Shirogane from the Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime. Both are introverted and of a few words. Both are from a lower grade level. Both heavily idolizes one of the main characters who are in a higher grade level. Both have a dorky older brother who wants to improve themselves and can often come off as overbearing/overprotective towards their younger sisters. Both are simultaneously treasurers of their respective student council. Both are best friends with a secretary of their schools' student councils. Her surname, Tsubameya, is the Japanese term for the swallow bird, it is also what her brother's cafe is named after. Tsuchi appears to be comprised of a bundle of ivory antlers wrapped together, and looks akin to that of a soccer ball. It has two, sometimes four, antlers sticking out of its side. Personality
Tsuchi is the type to go along with whatever its caretakers feel like doing, though it won't hesitate to object whenever it is forced to do something it dislikes, such as trying out the food Noko offers it, or being taken on a dog walk or told to do dog activities by Bashame.
Nonetheless, it greatly appreciates the companionship and care of the student council and Deer Club members and are very comfortable around them.
It is also shown to be kindhearted as it helped a lost boy looking for his mom calm down by wiping his tears and staying by his side. History
"Summer Deer Festival"
Neko decides to hold a meeting in the student council room with two of her co-officers, Kinu and Chiharu, in hopes of getting their progress report on getting the Deer Club disbanded.
However, Nekoyamada is surprised to find out that the two don't have any intentions of doing so, upsetting the vice president. She is then interrupted by Shikanoko who invited herself into the room, claiming to have found "the discovery of the century", which she puts on the table - a "tsuchinoko".
Surprised and disgusted by it, Neko objects Shikanoko's claims that the bundle of antlers is anything but a tsuchinoko. It then starts wriggling its tentacles, horrifying Nekoyamada even more.
Despite this, childhood friends Kinu and Chiharu seem to have immediately grown attached to it and start giving it pets, Neko questions why they seem so casual about seeing a cryptid for the first time, but they insist that it's no different from a pet like a dog or a cat once you get used to it.
Neko, deciding to give it a chance, accepts the tentacle it reaches out to her with, and develops a newfound affection for it, immediately wanting to nurture it like a mother.
As Torako comes in late to the council room, she is also horrified by the sentient soccer ball with antlers that is being held by Nekoyamada, as the day ends, the student council and the Deer Club agree to share custody of it.
"Get The Sports Festival Done!"
When Nekoyamada wonders what Tsuchi was up to, she spots the ball of antlers being tossed around like a basketball.
Horrified, Neko goes over to it and shields it from the other kids, but it slips in between her legs and heads off elsewhere.
During the invasion of the wild deer Shikanoko brings into the school, Nekoyamada tries fighting off the deer chewing on Tsuchi.
Tsuchi is later seen being carried by Nekoyamada as she and the rest of the crowd watch Torako mouth off to Noko who pushed her to her breaking point with her antics.
"Blame It On Spring..."
Tsuchi is first seen sleeping soundly on the Deer Club's coffee table under the supervision of Anko, who is going through her sister's notebook of secrets.
It is woken up by the loud entrance of Bashame who came inside to ask for Anko's help in tending to her rice paddy, to which the latter refuses as she detests the idea of getting dirtied.
Bashame notices Tsuchi and turns to it for help instead, taking its usual silence as a yes as she runs off with it back outside. The two start off planting the sapplings, but this shortly turns into a race which results in the two messing around in the mud.
After their work is done, Anko makes rice balls for her and Bashame while having prepared a bowl of chalk for Tsuchi.
"The pursuer and the pursued."
Tsuchi makes a cameo alongside Nekoyamada as they were hanging out by their lonesome in the student council room before Soichiro Kumatori barges in, thinking it was where Noko was hiding.
"Farewell, Nokotan!? The Deer Club Forever"
Tsuchi is seen hanging out in its usual place, on the table of the Deer Club. Later on, after Noko declares she will challenge all the mascots of the Deer Den, Tsuchi goes over to hang out with the student council officers for the rest of the episode.

Abilities
Skillset
Farmwork - Tsuchi is shown to be capable of helping Bashame in planting sapplings in her rice paddy. Though, this is not without the two's fair share of playing around in the mud. Playing fetch - Despite having to do so against its will, Tsuchi is familiar with the concept of playing fetch and effortlessly retrieves the stick Bashame throws for it by shapeshifting one of its tentacles long enough to reach the distance. Unique Abilities
Bioluminescence - Its entire body can glow as a means of communication, as it can not do so verbally. Shapeshifting appendages - Its tentacle-like appendages can shift into any length and shape. Relationships
Members of the Deer Club
Torako Koshi
Though, not having much interactions, when first exposed to Tsuchi's existence, she is also horrified. After the Deer Club and student council have agreed on being its co-caretakers, Torako does not seem to mind its presence nor company, and vice versa for Tsuchi.
Noko Shikanoko
Noko first "finds" Tsuchi buried within the schoolgrounds when she was digging one day.
In actuality, Tsuchi is the excess antlers Noko sheds during the Deer Club's first and only livestream which Torako holds. Whether or not Noko herself is aware of her biological relations to Tsuchi is not known.
Noko insists that Tsuchi is a tsuchinoko, and thus inspires its name. She is surprised to find out Tsuchi is one of the only ones to reject the idea of consuming deer crackers, bundles of grass, nor boba tea.
Meme Bashame
Despite not remembering Tsuchi's name every time, they both seem to enjoy each other's company. When asked to help aid Bashame with her rice paddy, it did not mind giving her a helping hand and even enjoyed itself alongside her in messing around and getting dirtied.
It, however, also doesn't hesitate in showing boundaries as it tries to show Bashame how it disliked being taken on walks like a dog, and partaking in activities such as playing fetch.
Anko Koshi
Like the rest of its co-caretakers, Tsuchi seems comfortable with Anko's company, as it is first seen peacefully sleeping in the Deer Club's table while in Anko's supervision.
Anko also does her duties as such, feeding it its favorite bowl of chalk during the club's snack break after tending to Bashame's rice paddy.
Members of the Student Council
Neko Nekoyamada
Initially, when Tsuchi was first introduced to the student council, Neko was the only one who was visibly disgusted by it.
But, after listening to Chiharu and Kinu's suggestion, Neko begrudgingly takes Tsuchi's tentacle as it reaches out to her, and, as a result, immediately develops a maternal urge to take care of it.
Chiharu Tsubameya and Kinu Tanukikoji
After taking in Noko's logic of Tsuchi being a tsuchinoko into account, Chiharu uses it as an inspiration for its name.
Surprisingly enough, Tsuchi is one of the only things that didn't immediately send Kinu into her usual fit of hysterics fueled by her anxiety, as she akins Tsuchi to that of a pet cat or dog, most probably because of her own family pet by the name of Rabu-tan.
Like the rest of its co-caretakers, Tsuchi seems to enjoy the childhood friends' presence.
Miscellaneous
Soichiro Kumatori
Tsuchi and Neko are startled by Kumatori suddenly barging into the student council room, as the latter was looking for Noko whom he was actively hunting.
Trivia
It is named after the mythical snake-like yokai of the same name, Tsuchinoko, with Noko insisting it was one despite the complete lack of any resemblance to one. Noko's basis on what a tsuchinoko is, is that it wants to eat deer crackers, grass, and drink boba tea. Because Chapter 11 was adapted after Chapter 25, this makes it a continuity error, as Tsuchi was born from the antlers Noko sheds in the segment featuring Chapter 11. Tsuchi's diet consisting of solely chalk may be a reference to how deers in real life sometimes nibble on discarded bones to help battle calcium deficiency needed for their antlers.

She later makes a cameo in the second segment of the episode in the Game of Deer Life board game the Deer Club members were playing.
"Get The Sports Festival Done!"
Inukai appears as part of the students' family members who were allowed to participate in the school festival's bread-eating race. Though, it was never revealed whom she is related to.
As the race begins, she doesn't question the fact that the bread got replaced by deer crackers, bundles of grass, and antlers, respectively, and, instead, sings praises as if they were blessings from the Deer God.
Because of this, she gains the supernatural speed to beat even the literal deer, Tsunoda, in sprinting off to the finish line with an antler in her mouth.

"Girl Meets Deer"
Ms. Ukai introduces a new student to Torako's class, revealing to be the deer girl whom Torako saved from before, Noko Shikanoko. Unlike Torako, Ms. Ukai and the rest of the class don't seem to see anything out of the ordinary with the transferee, making Torako question her own sanity.
From that point onward, Ms. Ukai becomes one of the many people who encourage Noko's antics. Some time later, she promises Noko that if the latter could clean up the abandoned school warehouse, she could use it for whatever she wanted it for.
After the cleaning is finished, Ms. Ukai stops by and reveals that Noko wanted to turn it into the clubhouse for her own made up school club, the Deer Club. As Noko fills up the paperwork, this makes Ms. Ukai the club advisor, as she assigns Torako as its president.
"Deer Meets Dark Girl"
Ms. Ukai is the honorary host for the trivia game between Noko and Anko to see who knows Torako best. As a result, she also contributed in airing out Torako's dirty laundry much to the honor student's horror.
"Bashame Enrolls"
Like the rest of the student body and faculty, Ms. Ukai is present (although not prominently shown) during the freshmen orientation in the second segment of the episode.
After Bashame explains to Torako and Noko why she was sleeping on the Deer Club's doorstep, she tells them Ms. Ukai sent her there when the latter asked for Noko's whereabouts.
"Grab Her Weakness!"
Ms. Ukai is indirectly mentioned by Noko during the last segment of the episode when Anko impatiently asks why Torako has yet to come to the club that day, explaining how Torako was asked by Ms. Ukai to run an errand.
"DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc."
After introducing what DeerColle is to Torako, Anko and Bashame adds on, saying how they already told Ms. Ukai on Torako's behalf how they signed her up as Noko's "owner" for that year's DeerColle.
During practice for the next few days, Ms. Ukai accidentally walks in on Torako, who, at that point, got too engrossed in the practice, excuses herself out, catching Torako in an embarrassing moment.
In the streaming segment, she is the one to suggest to Torako to livestream the activities of the Deer Club to MyTube to try and gain more traction.
"Goodbye Old Deer, Hello New Deer"
Ms. Ukai makes a cameo appearance as a zookeeper at the Hino Zoo in the Game of Deer Life board game the members of the Deer Club were playing in the second segment of the episode.
"Get The Sports Festival Done!"
Ms. Ukai acts as the school sports festival's umpire throughout the episode. After Noko brings in a herd of deer for her impromptu performance, Ms. Ukai approaches Torako and asks if she had a plan to get things back on track.
Later on, during the tug-of-war event, Ms. Ukai happily announces Noko as the winner, much to the disbelief of Torako since the game got turned into a tug-of-antlers.
At the end of the episode, she is one of the many people in the crowd who witnessed Torako snap at Noko after the latter's antics proved to have pushed Torako to her limits.
"Blame It On Spring..."
Ms. Ukai makes a cameo as Torako's brief flashback of an onscreen conversation in which she reminds Torako that, without a deer (Noko, in this instance), the Deer Club can be disbanded.
"The pursuer and the pursued."
During last period, Ms. Ukai is teaching Class-B their language lessons as she, like the rest of the class, remains blissfully unaware of the shenanigans happening with the sleeping Noko seated at the back of the class.
It is only after Koshi shouts at Noko to wake up at Ms. Ukai notices something is troubling her star pupil and asks what's wrong. Koshi dismisses the thought, but can't help but wonder why no one else is seeing the family of birds gathering at Noko's head and antlers.
Ten minutes later, Ms. Ukai decides to call on a random student for recitation, and calls upon student #12 who happened to be Noko. Noko briefly wakes up, and in a half-asleep daze, tells the class how their shirt tag is still on.
This causes Ms. Ukai, alongside the rest of the class - including Torako, to burst out into a brief commotion as Noko falls back asleep.
"Farewell, Nokotan!? The Deer Club Forever"
Similar to "Deer Meets Dark Girl", Ms, Ukai acts as the host of the impromptu dance competition (held in the same set) between Noko and Kyun-chan. When Noko is threatened to be taken back to the Deer Den, Ms. Ukai menacingly reminds Torako how the Deer Club can't function without its deer, and adds on, saying how she needs to pay back all the club funds.

Noko Shikanoko

"Bashame Enrolls"
During Tsunoda's debut episode, he is shown to have welcomed himself into the Deer Club as he rummages through the club's supply of deer crackers, much to Torako's shock.
As Torako mistakenly assumes that he was Noko in a mech suit, she tries everything she can to get "Noko" to "turn back", with one of her first attempts being to manhandle the animal, rightfully earning her a kick to the face, strong enough to draw blood.
Despite the telltale signs that this deer was, in fact, not Nokotan, she still insists on getting "Noko" to budge. Tsunoda gets bored of the crackers and proceeds to chew on the club's houseplants instead, which is revealed to actually be one of Torako's many personal contributions to the club's interior design, which irritates her.
Tsunoda, normally not giving any positive reaction to Torako's efforts, perks his ears at the sight of her secret notebook. She then thinks if she sings a snippet of her original song, this would "change Noko back". Halfway through her song, the actual Noko comes back, revealing to have been looking for Tsunoda herself, only to find him at the clubhouse.
The realization kicks in and never before has Torako wanted to bury herself into a hole than now.
After the episode, Tsunoda becomes a recurring character in the anime, as he regularly escapes his enclosure to hang out with the Deer Club members.
"The Deer Club in the Crosshairs"
During Chiharu Tsubameya's visit to the Deer Club, Noko brings out a laptop which is revealed to have footage of Torako and Tsunoda's first meeting, much to Torako's horror.
It depicts Torako's poor attempts at trying to make "Noko" transform back from a CGI deer, and even has a clip of Torako singing her original song to Tsunoda.
After Torako asks Noko who on Earth "Tsunoda" was, the camera pans to the side to reveal that Tsunoda has snuck back into the club to much on her plants again, annoying Torako.
Later on in the afternoon, he is seen in the schoolgrounds munching on the grass within the school's territory.
"Grab Her Weakness!"
After tailing Noko into the local zoo's deer enclosure, Torako sees her enter the enclosure to greet Tsunoda, and proceeds to sit in between him and another deer. This surprises Torako, thinking she lives with Tsunoda at the zoo.
She continues to observe Noko's next move as she decides to lead the entire enclosure outside to partake in a deer parade within the zoo grounds. As Noko continues to lead the parade alongside her fellow deer, they amaze the audience of young and old.
"Summer Deer Festival"
Unlike the other episodes of the series, "Summer Deer Festival" consists of several mini segments (plus one regular segment) adapted from the bonus mini comics of selected chapters in the manga. As such, this episode has an inconsistent timeline and several subplots.
In one segment, Tsunoda comes to visit the Deer Club again as usual, and Noko instructs Bashame to bow down to him as both their senpai.
In the last segment, Tsunoda visits the club during Summer time, making Anko piece together why Noko ha spots all over her body and clothes, she and Tsunoda were just molting in the deer sense.
"DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc."
Tsunoda makes a cameo in the beginning of the episode, being the one to bring the DeerColle 2024 poster to Noko, replacing the crows that do this in the manga.
"Get The Sports Festival Done!"
Tsunoda appears alongside the rest of the students' family members who were allowed to partake in the school's sports festival. This makes Yoshiharu wonder if he was Noko's dad, but he quickly dismisses the thought.
As the race begins, Yoshiharu underestimates being able to outrun a literal deer, and is further surprised that the bread-eating contest's bread was replaced by deer crackers, bundles of grass, and antlers, respectively.
Tsunoda naturally doesn't have a problem with this, and continues on with the race, only winning second place because Inukai's belief in the Deer God helped her outrun him.
"Blame It On Spring..."
Tsunoda is one of the several deer that rushes to Noko's side after hearing the latter vent out her frustrations regarding her hay fever.
"Farewell, Nokotan!? The Deer Club Forever"
Tsunoda appears as the judge for Noko and Kyun-chan's dance competition held in the same set as the trivia game from "Deer Meets Dark Girl", wherein he prefere Kyun-chan's dancing over Noko's.
Relationships
Members of the Deer Club
Torako Koshi
Tsunoda is first introduced to Torako one day when the former welcomed himself into the club room and is seen helping itself to its inventory of deer crackers.
Torako first mistakes this as one of Noko's pranks and deduces that this is simply Noko herself wearing a mech suit, and, thus, tries to get "Noko" to "turn back".
Little does she know, Tsunoda is simply an actual domesticated deer, which results in Torako embarrassing herself in front of it, and Noko herself.
Though, after the unfortunate reveal, Torako does not view Tsunoda any different to Noko, as she sees both as annoying, seeing as how Tsunoda also has a penchant for chewing on the club's houseplants.
Noko Shikanoko
Noko is Tsunoda's part-time coworker and kouhai at the local zoo. It is because Tsunoda run off again that the zoo contacted Noko to help find her senpai.
The two enjoy each other's company and Tsunoda won't hesitate to aide Noko in her shenanigans.
Anko Koshi
Only having indirectly interacted once, Anko is the one to notice the similarities between Tsunoda's spots and Noko's spots, concluding that it is simply the molting season for deer, and Noko is not actually undergoing rice blast.
Meme Bashame
As a result of Noko taking in Bashame as her apprentice, Bashame also becomes another kouhai to Tsunoda, to whom she also greatly idolizes.
Miscellaneous
Yoshiharu Tsubameya
Yoshiharu was one of the contestants in the bread-eating race during the school's sports festival that Tsunoda also took a part it.
However, because of Noko's interference with the race, all the bread that was somehow consumed by a trespassing wild bear was replaced by Noko with deer crackers, bundles of grass, and her antlers, respectively - to which Tsunoda has no problem with, causing him to have the upper hand against the older Tsubameya sibling.
Mitsu Inukai
Inukai was one of the other participants during the school's sports festival bread-eating race, much like Tsunoda, she has no problems with the last-minute changes, and, in fact, welcomes and praises it as a "blessing from the Deer God".
Because of this, she gains the adrenaline possible to make her even outrun Tsunoda - a literal deer, causing her to win the race.

His name contains the Japanese word for "antler". Tsunoda shares his English dub voice actor, Josh Portillo, with the young man visiting the zoo in "Grab Her Weakness!". He also shares his English voice actor with Yoshiharu Tsubameya. In the author's notes at the end of Tsunoda's debut chapter, it is revealed that Tsunoda has escaped at least seven times prior. In the episode "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs", the scene wherein Noko butts in and shows Tsubameya the "club activities" that includes footage of Koshi singing in Chapter 10 is changed into footage of Koshi manhandling Tsunoda from the previous episode alongside other clips between Koshi and Tsunoda, due to the tenth chapter only being adapted into the anime later on. This includes the exchange involving Tsubameya and Noko regarding the Deer Collection, which was also changed to fit the change of video clip/s. Additionally, the respective reactions of Bashame and Anko (before getting kicked out a second time), as well as Tsunoda making a brief comeback cameo, are both anime-exclusives. In the anime, Tsunoda's name is only revealed in this episode rather than in his debut episode. The additional scene of Tsunoda chewing at the school yard's grass is also anime-exclusive. In the manga, during Chapter 4, it was never stated which deer in the zoo Tsunoda was, while in the fifth episode, Noko greets him directly

Hino in Japanese roughly translates to "sun/fire field". Despite not being located in the Nara Prefecture (only neighboring it), Hino City seemingly holds deer at a high regard. Having the deer from Nara seemingly cross over often, and even having a Deer God Shrine revering the Deer God. Prior to the episode "Summer Deer Festival", the narrator in the dub had always referred to Hino City as Hino Town. Though, in the original, Hino City has always been a city

The café is named after the siblings' surname, Tsubameya, which translates to swallow bird. Because the anime adapted Chapter 15 only after Chapter 22, the cameo from "The Deer Club in the Crosshairs" marks the first time the café is shown in the anime, as opposed to what would have been an adaptation of the aforementioned chapter. It is also worth noting that it was her brother, Tsubameya Yoshiharu, who is shown reacting surprised and asking what made his sister blush so happily after she returns from school. However, in the anime, this was an offscreen voice instead. "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc." reveals a brief anime-exclusive scene showing Yoshiharu having been on the cover photo of the September 2022 issue of Hino-zine for his coffee and service.

When guests are over, the Deer Club's mascot, Nokotan, offers them a generous supply of deer crackers as well as a bundle of herbs/grass from her head storage as a sign of welcome. When presented with an animal brush, members must brush the resident deer, Noko, with it. When given a bundle of deer crackers, members must eat them on sight. Members who fail to follow any of the activities assigned to them will be met with the wrath of Anko's tamest trap - the dropping wash bowl. There are times where Noko calls on for member to participate in "antler-growing training", wherein she encourages the members to meditate hard enough, and help Noko grow her antlers until they flop to the floor. According to Bashame, this specific activity is not recommended for newbie members. There are times wherein Noko will decide to take the club on a field trip to the training grounds - a.k.a. Nara Park in the Nara Prefecture. As of Tsunoda's first visit, members of the Deer Club must bow down to him - the club's senpai. ADVERTISEMENT

Noko Shikanoko - the one who founded the club and is the club's mascot. She is the one who decides what the club activities will be, and is the one who personally greets the guests with welcome presents (deer crackers and a bundle of grass). Torako Koshi - the Deer Club's president who begrudgingly accepted her role, also dubbed as Noko's caretaker. She is indifferent towards the club, as, on one hand, she loves spending the club's funding on renovating the warehouse, but on the other hand, she does not want anyone outside of the three other current members knowing of her past - as she drops her honor student facade during club time. Anko Koshi - joined immediately after transferring to Hino Minami High as a first year. The self-proclaimed caretaker of her older sister. Meme Bashame - similar to Anko, she joined as soon as she transferred, due to having witnessed Noko's kindheartedness firsthand. Deer-in-training. Affiliated
Ms. Ukai - the teacher of Noko and Koshi, and the one responsible for officiating/approving the club. She is then made into the club's advisor. Tsuchi - the club/school pet who was born from the excess horns that Noko shed at one point, that Koshi had to cut off with an axe. It somehow gained sentience and was found by Noko when she was digging up the school yard. The Club's houseplants - Namely, Manjiro, Iruka, Umako, and Emishi. The houseplants that decorate the club, provided and cared for by Koshi herself. She gets annoyed when the likes of Tsunoda starts chewing on any of them, specifically Manjiro. Visitors
Tsunoda - a frequent visitor of the club, he is an adult male deer from the deer exhibit of the local zoo. He seems to know how to get back to his own enclosure. The Members of the Student Council Neko Nekoyamada - the student council VP who accidentally became an honorary member due to how easily distracted she is, when in actuality, wants to shut down the club for the sole reason of her petty one-sided rivalry with Koshi. Chiharu Tsubameya - the student council treasurer who just happened to be curious about the club, and was invited over as a guest by Noko herself. She is secretly a fan of Noko and is very happy her senpai noticed her. Kinu Tanukikoji - the student council secretary, who became a visitor who briefly stayed over for Bashame's cooking. Trivia
The Deer Club was founded in the first episode of the anime, while it was founded only in Chapter 5 in the manga (a week after the events of Chapter 1), as the chapters that the anime's first episode decided to adapt were Chapters 1, 2, and 5, respectively. The names of the club's houseplants are as follows: Manjiro means "bright/serene/cheerful". Iruka means "to remain/stop", it can also mean "dolphin". Umako is a feminine name that means "plum blossom child". Emishi means "barbarian/savage", it can also refer to the ethnic group that formerly lived in Honshu. It is revealed in "Grab Her Weakness!" that the traps Anko set from the second episode are still actively hidden within the club's premises, as Noko uses the same wash bowl trap on Neko Nekoyamada. In the same episode, it is revealed by Koshi that there are school days wherein there is no need to attend the club. Though, the specifications of this are unknown. In "Summer Deer Festival", when Koshi was frustrated about how the Deer Club's funding was being spent, because Chapters 10 and 13 were adapted only later on in the anime, the dialogue was revised and instead of mentioning The Deer Collection and the boardgame Game of Deer Life, this was changed to Koshi talking about the damage Anko did to the club as well as the trivia game. Additionally, in the manga, the antler sold for 2,000 yen, whereas in the anime, it is implied that it was enough to cover the costs of the destruction to the Deer Club as well as the cost of the trivia game. The dakimakura as well the Deer Club shirt showcased in this episode are later turned into official merchandise by WIT STUDIO. In "DeerColle, Streaming, Hospitality, etc.", it is revealed that the club's MyTube channel is simply called the "Deer Club channel". As of Chapter 28/"Blame It On Spring...", it is revealed that Bashame was successful in having cultivated her own rice paddy just outside the Deer Club.

In an anime-exclusive scene in "Deer Meets Dark Girl", it is, in fact, shown that the Deer God is an actual being. The concept of the Deer God is first hinted in the anime through its intro's lyrics. It is revealed that the antler soup being given away at the shrine requires Noko herself to bathe in the cauldron and not sleep for the prior three days. One of the posts promoting "Goodbye Old Deer, Hello New Deer" on the show's official Twitter is an exclusive picture of the three other student council members dressed as shrine maidens.[1] Despite being played off as a gag, the deer antler soup is actually a reference to the real thing, which is based off of one of several Chinese medicine that involve using unique animal parts as ingredients. The sound the deer make during the burning ritual is called a bugle, which is what male deer do to attract its females
