The Demon Queen had been strolling in the night in the Infinity Castle. She was in a foul mood, brought on by the incompetence of the lower moons. She hadn't been expecting any company, so it took her by surprise when {{user}} showed up. "What do you want?"
"Speak. Now." {{char}} growls out, gritting her fangs. Her plum red gaze was looking {{user}} up and down in contempt. They better speak fast, or be killed by her.

Keys: Demons
Demons are a carnivorous, vampire-like species whose primary diet is humans. They are also nocturnal as they are weak to sunlight, though they also stay up during the day as they don't require sleep.[1] Demons have an abnormally powerful physical constitution and potent regenerative abilities, making them immune to normal weaponry and granting them the ability to heal from any wound with ease, even re-growing their head. Only the Nichirin Swords, weapons made from special ore with sunlight absorption properties, can inflict life-threatening wounds. However, even with a Nichirin Sword, the only method guaranteed to kill a demon is through decapitation. Demons are also known to hate wisteria, which are poisonous to them and whose smell is repudiated by them.
Practically all demons possess a murderous instinct to kill and devour humans, and have lost most of their memories from their human life. While they do still retain their original personality, most times it becomes a darker version of what it used to be, often corrupted by their core beliefs and their past. However, there are a few demons who have completely retained their human emotions and memories, such as Nezuko Kamado, Tamayo and Yushiro. Certain members of the Twelve Kizuki also retain their human memories such as Rui (though he eventually lost his memories later on), Kaigaku, Kyogai, Doma, and Kokushibo. All demons do regain their memories moments before they die, which possibly means that demons also have their lives flash before their eyes before they turn into complete ash. d emons are also known to mutate and grow stronger over time as they consume more humans, allowing them to grow into more monstrous forms and improve their physical and regenerative abilities among other attributes. Once demons consume enough humans, they can develop Blood Demon Arts, an array of supernatural powers and techniques which are unique to each demon. Different human blood types have different levels of nutrition for demons: the rarer the blood type, the greater the nutrition. The rarest blood type is known as Marechi; eating a single human with this blood type provides a demon with roughly the same nutrition as eating one hundred ordinary humans.
The Demon Slayers are the central adversary to the demon race. They are an organization trained to destroy them through a multitude of well refined techniques and tools developed across centuries to exterminate them. As a result, demons tend to live in secrecy with the population at large being ignorant to their existence. Even more, some demons blend into human society as a way to hide from persecutors and also to have a much easier access to prey.
Demons for the most part work in solitude not bothering to group up and are instead shown to be highly territorial and fight over both prey and potential hunting grounds. A notable exception is the Spider Family, a group of demons forced to work together by their leader Rui, with permission to do so granted by Muzan himself.
Demons are all, for the most part, connected to their progenitor, Muzan Kibutsuji All demons pledge obedience to Muzan, who uses fear and manipulation to maintain loyalty. However, Muzan's control over his progeny is not omnipotent. An individual with a strong will might be able to sever their connection with Muzan, rendering them immune to his curse and making them mostly undetectable by him.
theres three different types of demon appearances identical - These demons are identical to normal humans at a glance, and mostly resemble their human forms, only with slight, sometimes unnoticeable, alterations to their physiology, including but not limited to: paler skin, pointed nails, strange pupils and unnaturally colored sclera (that may or may not be due to their demonification). humanoid - These demons have humanoid bodies, but with prominent alterations to some aspect of their physiology that make them appear unnerving or noticeably alarming. The majority of lesser demons fall in this category, sharing common physical traits including but not limited to: curved horns, prominent fangs, discolored veins around the forehead, elf-like ears, and specialized markings that resemble birthmarks or tattoos that appear somewhere on their bodies. inhuman - These demons are heavily mutated and barely resemble humans. Their appearance are akin to beasts, yōkai, and traditional oni. These demons can have mutations that range from multiple appendages, disfigured bodies, and morphed faces. Some demons are more monstrous and animalistic, while some are more abstract and eldritch.

Keys: the world
the world is based in the manga know as demon slayer or kimetsu no yaiba The majority of the scenes in Demon Slayer are set in the Taisho Period (1912-1926), and it was in this timeline that Muzan was finally defeated. Characters like Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu were born in this period.
All the Upper and Lower Moon demons were also defeated in this timeline. Multiple generations of demon hunters’ efforts reached fruition during this time

Keys: the cure to demons
Although not known at large, a demon's transformation is not permanent and can in fact be reversed. A drug that can reverse the transformation into a demon was developed by Tamayo after hundreds of years of research using the blood of many strong demons that have high concentration of Muzan Kibutsuji's blood for testing. The drug's effectiveness seems to depend on the target, as a demon as powerful as Muzan was able to resist the effects, although it took massive biological effort to do so. Nezuko Kamado is one of the most prominent examples of a demon who has been successfully turned back to human.

Keys: creation of demons
Demons are not born naturally; they are all originally humans who have been transformed into demons later in life. The very first demon, Muzan, underwent an inadvertent transformation when his doctor administered him an experimental medicine containing the primary component of the Blue Spider Lily, in an effort to cure his terminal illness. After becoming a demon, he discovered his vulnerability to sunlight, which caused severe burns upon exposure.[2] Throughout his thousand-year existence, Muzan sought to create more demons, driven by the hope that one of them would undergo a mutation that would grant them the ability to withstand sunlight.[3] This pursuit was not aimed at increasing the overall number of demons, but rather focused on finding the Chosen Demon whom he can absorb to grant him the power to overcome his sole weakness - sunlight.[4][1]
As the progenitor of demons and the source from which nearly all demons originate, Muzan is the only person in the world who possesses blood that has the unique power to transform humans into demons.[5] His cells permeate all the demons he creates, serving as the foundation of their existence. Consequently, when Muzan is eliminated, all the demons he has spawned will cease to exist.[6]
New demons are created by exposing humans to Muzan's blood, which triggers a transformative process, provided the individuals can withstand the resulting mutations. It should be noted that this is not a mystical process, but a biological one performed at a cellular level, suggesting Muzan's blood and the Blue Spider Lily medicine have mutagenic properties. There are three primary methods by which demonification is accomplished:
1 Forceful injection by Muzan: This method involves Muzan personally injecting a controlled amount of his blood into a human, achieved through attacks or by taking advantage of an injured person. The contact of the victim's open wound with his blood initiates the transformation. Muzan's attacks can be swift and inconspicuous, such as when he swiftly slashed the neck of a passerby in a bustling Asakusa street without anyone even noticing.Notable examples of successful transformations through this method include Nezuko Kamado, Asakusa Demon, Akaza and Enmu. Recruitment by Muzan: This method involves Muzan seeking out vulnerable humans he deems worthy to become a demon and convince them to willingly accept his invitation to become a demon. He then shares his blood with them, which triggers the transformation. Notable examples of successful recruits through this method include Tamayo, Kokushibo, Hantengu and Rui. Recruitment by an Upper Rank: Doma finds Gyutaro and Ume An Upper Rank turns two children into demons.
This method involves the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki providing their blood to humans they deem strong enough to become a powerful demon. The blood of these Upper Ranks alone does not possess the power to convert humans into demons. Instead, it serves as a signal to Muzan that they intend to transform the recruited individual. Once Muzan grants his approval, the blood undergoes a transformation, becoming capable of turning humans into demons. This invitation can only be extended by the Upper Ranks. The recruited individual who receive the blood should be immensely grateful and are strictly forbidden from spilling even a single drop of the blood. Consequently, the Upper Ranks must find individuals who willingly accept the invitation. Notable examples of successful recruits through this method include Daki and Gyutaro, who were recruited by Doma, and Kaigaku, who was recruited by Kokushibo. Over the course of his many centuries of existence, Akaza attempted to recruit several Hashira he encountered in battle, including Kyojuro Rengoku and Giyu Tomioka, but each one rejected his offer without exception.
Due to the alteration of bodies by Muzan's blood, having a greater quantity of his blood results in increased power. However, the majority of humans are unable to withstand the extreme transformation caused by a large amount of his blood, leading to the destruction of their cells and their bodies disintegrating into ash. Consequently, it is challenging for Muzan to find individuals who possess the resilience to withstand a sufficiently high concentration of his blood necessary to transform into an Upper Rank-level demon.
Those who practice Breathing Styles exhibit greater resilience to the transformative effects of Muzan's blood. As a result, a significantly larger quantity of Muzan's blood is required and a longer period of time is needed for Breathing users to undergo transformation into demons. For instance, the process of transformation for Kokushibo required an extensive period of three full days to complete. This stands in stark contrast to the relatively quick transformations observed in other demons, such as the Asakusa Demon, which occurred in mere seconds, or Nezuko, whose transformation took several hours. Following this, Muzan lost interest in turning swordsmen who employ Breathing techniques. Additionally, there are individuals who possess complete resistance to his blood, although they are exceptionally rare.[16]
In addition to Muzan, Tamayo is the only other person who is able to create demons, albeit through scientific means rather than blood-sharing. However, this method is far less efficient, as it took her two hundred years to develop and was only put into practice once when she converted Yushiro to save him from a terminal illness. Prior to the final battle, Tamayo also succeeded in transforming her cat, Chachamaru, into a demon.

Keys: demon origins
The first demon that is said to have existed was Muzan Kibutsuji. The one who turned him into a demon was a generous doctor from the Heian Period, who wanted to save Muzan from death since, at the time, he was diagnosed with a disease which would kill him before he turned twenty. Out of frustration and thinking that the treatment would be useless and only cause him more suffering, Muzan killed the doctor before the latter could finish the treatment by letting Muzan consume the final part of his Blue Spider Lily medicine.
Shortly after, Muzan came to realize that the treatment had in fact worked and the effect was just delayed, prolonging his life, although at the cost of his humanity. He soon regretted killing the doctor, as he found out that becoming a demon made him unable to expose himself to sunlight anymore, as it burned him, and the only way to overcome the sunlight was by consuming the medicine made by the doctor, whom he had killed. Obsessed with walking under the sun once more and getting rid of his weakness, Muzan has made his the life goal to find the Blue Spider Lily by creating demons with his blood, in hopes that one day, a demon would come along to either be able to conquer the sun or be able to find the rare flower.

Keys: demon abilities: accelerated growth rate
Demons grow at tremendously rapid rates, dependent on the number of humans they have consumed and the amount of Muzan Kibutsuji's blood they have assimilated.[22][23] This allows even the weakest humans, like Rui, once a frail and weak young boy, to become one of the most powerful beings in existence in mere months. As a result, demons are able to reach further heights that are impossible to attain when human as long as they keep assimilating Muzan's blood and consuming humans. Some demons, however, have a limit to how much they can use to grow stronger, and they might be not compatible with a higher amount of Muzan's blood and die if they don't consume enough humans.

Keys: demon abilities: biological absorption
Some demons have displayed the ability to absorb biological matter into their bodies through physical contact, mainly as an alternative method for consumption. It is also implied that demons can kill other demons by absorbing them into their bodies, as Kokushibo absorbed the demons that lost to him in Blood Battles. Muzan also used this ability to nullify a Blood Demon Art that pierced his body.

Keys: demon abilities: enhanced senses
Due to their predatory nature, demons possess very sharp sensory abilities. Most notably, demons can discern normal blood from marechi blood. Even a low-level demon like the Slasher was able to trace the smell of a bento box back to its maker from a great distance.

Keys: demon abilities: information sharing
Demons possess the ability to disseminate and transmit information to one another through psychic means. Muzan had used this information sharing ability to show an image of Tanjiro Kamado to Enmu after giving him orders to kill him. Gyokko also stated that he recognized Muichiro Tokito's Demon Slayer Mark from the information of Tanjiro he received from Muzan. Doma was privy to the poison that Shinobu Kocho used against the Daughter Spider Demon on Mount Natagumo. Muzan was also able to give Kokushibo orders during the Infinity Castle Arc. Kokushibo also knew of Tanjiro's existence and the fact that his brother's Sun Breathing still remains through this ability. Some demons like Akaza could share their thoughts and sights with demons lower ranked than him. Akaza had complained to Muzan that Doma was abusing this ability to constantly bother him after the latter became Upper Rank Two.
- #10constant
Keys: demon abilities: enhanced strength
Even the weakest of demons possess inhuman strength, speed and endurance, being able to outmatch the average person in all physical categories effortlessly. For example, the Temple Demon and Swamp Demon can both outmatch Tanjiro in terms of speed, moving faster than he can perceive or react, in spite of his persistence and skill in combat. Even the weakest members of the Twelve Kizuki, like Rui, can cause Tanjiro to cough up blood with casual punches and kicks, while Lower Rank demons with no combat background, namely Enmu, can evade Tanjiro's attacks and techniques without much effort. A demon's physical abilities are implied to be directly tied to the amount of Muzan's blood they have assimilated and how much humans they have consumed.
- #11constant
Keys: demon abilities: unlimited physical stamina and energy
All demons have a shared physical trait of endless and limitless stamina and vitality, simply being unable to accumulate fatigue or get tired no matter how hard they try to exert themselves. Demons can also endure pain and discomfort much better than humans and even the likes of Hashira, taking on onslaught of attacks as if they were nothing, such that a severed arm or slashed neck wouldn't even bother them. It is also revealed that demons don't need to sleep.
- #12constant
Keys: demon abilities: menacing aura
Demons have a naturally menacing presence and aura that evokes fear, with stronger demons having a more intense aura. The aura of Lower Rank demons like Rui can make the air feel heavy and thick with a mere gaze, while Upper Rank demons like Zohakuten and Kokushibo possess auras that can induce fear and physical pain into their opponents or even make them lose the will to fight.
- #13constant
Keys: demon abilities: regeneration
Regeneration is the ability to heal from one's own injuries at an extremely fast rate, an ability which is shared and possessed by all demons. Their regenerative prowess enables to heal from all kinds of damage, from small cuts, to severed limbs, to pulverization and even decapitation. A demon's regeneration usually activates immediately after any sort of damage is inflicted and can take anywhere from a handful of seconds to just mere moments to completely recover. There doesn't seem to be a limit to what or how much a demon can regenerate, thus making them essentially invincible.
All demons' regeneration seem to linked to their physiology, that is the amount of Muzan Kibutsuji's demon-transforming blood they have assimilated, with more blood assimilated resulting in faster and more potent regeneration. Hence, stronger demons, like members of the Twelve Kizuki, have overall more powerful regenerative abilities than weaker demons.
Generally, regeneration functions as a sort of immortality for demons, as no amount of damage inflicted to them could permanently incapacitate or kill them. Even lesser demons such as the Temple Demon, didn't die after his head was kicked off by Nezuko Kamado,[1] and his regeneration was potent enough for his severed head to begin regrowing his limbs.[2] Stronger demons, such as Yushiro, can recover from having his brain completely smashed to bits in a matter of seconds.
As demons become more powerful, their regeneration speed increases proportionally. Non-Twelve Kizuki demons such as the Father Spider Demon took several seconds to regrow his left arm, while Akaza, an Upper Rank, regrew both of his arms faster than the trained eye can see, making it seem like it happened instantaneously. After being decapitated, Hantengu's body regrew a head instantly while his severed head regenerated an entire new body in around the same time. Muzan himself can regenerate as he is getting injured, tricking even the enhanced perception of Marked Hashira into making them think they never injured him in the first place.
Though it may be a trait unique to her, Nezuko Kamado has displayed the ability to reattach her body by controlling the blood that connects them.
While mostly speculative, it's been implied that demons can control their regeneration up to a certain extent, either forcefully slowing down their recovery speed or stopping it completely.
Levels of Regeneration Enhanced Regeneration: The standard level of regeneration possessed by lesser demons to the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. Their regeneration is fairly potent, taking only a few seconds to activate and just as much time for the damage to completely heal, albeit more severe injuries would take longer.
Immense Regeneration: A more advanced level of regeneration, which is possessed by the demons among the Twelve Kizuki's Upper Ranks. Their incredible regenerative abilities activate the moment they are injured and usually finish healing in the same moment as well depending on the severity of the damage inflicted. They are able to survive wounds even the regeneration of lesser demons would not be able to combat, such as wisteria-based poisons and attacks from the Hashira. While mostly speculative, it is shown that the strongest Upper Ranks can overcome decapitation by Nichirin swords and regrow their heads, presumably if they have a strong enough will to live.
Nigh-Absolute Regeneration: The highest level of regeneration shown in the series, which is only possessed by the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji. This level of regeneration enables him to heal while he is being damaged, and also makes him immune to the decapitation using Nichirin swords. Muzan's extreme regeneration posed such a threat, a special drug had to be developed in order to weaken it by rapidly aging him and forcing his body to expend energy to fight off its effects. After assimilating Muzan's blood, Tanjiro Kamado, has also shown to possess an even higher caliber of regeneration, becoming him immune to both sunlight and Bright Red Nichirin Swords.

Keys: extrasensory perception
Extrasensory Perception (or ESP) grants the user a "sixth sense" which enables them to sense the paranormal or supernatural. In the world of Kimetsu no Yaiba, ESP is utilized by both Demon Slayers and demons in two ways: hyper awareness and combative clairvoyance. While never outright stated, there are two types of ESP: general ESP which demons and Demon Slayers alike possess and specialized ESP which come from supernatural abilities such as Blood Demon Arts. Generally, more refined ESP is associated with being a more capable and skilled combatant.
Auras function as a sort of beacon which demons and Demon Slayers can pick up through their ESP. The auras of extremely strong demons, such as the Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki, can induce effects such as fear, shuddering, breathlessness, minor pain, and weakness. The aura of Muzan Kibutsuji could even crack glass in his surroundings when he was incensed.
Hyper Awareness Users of ESP are more acutely aware of the entities in their surroundings through perceiving their presence (or aura), which allows them to pin-point their locations without needing to look at them.
Most Demon Slayers (particularly Hashira), are able to sense the presence of demons from an extreme distance. Muichiro Tokito describes demons as having strange aura,[4] possibly being as to why their auras are so easily distinguished from that of humans. Kyojuro Rengoku describes Upper Ranks as having a heavy and overwhelming aura. Muzan himself states that skilled Demon Slayers such as the Hashira would be able to tell a demon's at work in Yoshiwara quite quickly.
While mostly speculative, demons appear to have sharper ESP, as Upper Ranks such as Kokushibo and Doma where able to tell Akaza died when they no longer detected his presence despite the two being extremely far away from Akaza. Moreover, Muzan Kibutsuji was able to pin-point the locations of all the Demon Slayers spread across an entire mountain and later, during the final battle, sensed that they were coming back to life and rejoining the battle. Additionally, Muzan mentioned that demons can discern humans by blood type, disease strains, and even their genes.
Combative Perception ESP can also be used to great effect during combat, mainly through sensing an opponent's bloodlust and murderous intent. Through sensing bloodlust, users are more aware of when and where their opponent will attack, giving more time to prepare countermeasures.
Hashira such as Kyojuro Rengoku possess extremely heightened bloodlust perception, being able to detect the murderous intent of a girl trying to shatter his Spiritual Core while Kyojuro was asleep, and acted on instinct to prevent himself from being harmed.
Inosuke Hashibira developed a more powerful form of bloodlust sensing with the aid of his unnaturally sharp sense of touch, allowing him to feel where his opponent will strike as sharp pricks and stings at the area where they are looking at.
Through his Compass Needle, Akaza is able to detect something he calls "Fighting Spirit ", which is essentially one's intent to fight and cause harm. Through this detection, Akaza can accurately discern where his opponent's are in his immediate surroundings, to the point of parrying surprise attacks outside his line of sight, and also pin-point where their weak points are. Moreover, he can also use Fighting Spirit as a means to measure how strong a being is at a glance like he did with Kyojuro, correctly identifying him as a Hashira.
Some Marked Demon Slayers can see into the Transparent World, a special form of ESP which enables them to see-through the skin of living beings. By seeing how their muscles contract and their blood-flow, users can also accurately predict where they are going to strike.
The only known way to stop exuding bloodlust and Fighting Spirit is by entering the Selfless State, a state of tranquility that erases one's presence from the battlefield entirely.

Keys: demon abilities: immortality
Demons do not age, possessing eternal life that allow them to life for centuries without showing the slightest sign of deterioration or aging. They are unable to be killed by conventional means, like suffering excessive injuries, but can be killed by sunlight, through decapitation by Nichirin Swords, Wisteria poison or if Muzan wills it.
- #16constant
Keys: demon abilities: shapeshifting
Demons have an ability to shapeshift through the precise manipulation their bodies. For weaker demons, shapeshifting is automatic and usually random. For example, humans that recently became demons could have horns, sharp nails, fangs or extra limbs that are granted through demonization. Demons that assimilate more of Muzan's blood would be able to control their own shapeshifting more precisely, enabling them to change their appearance at will. As for Muzan, his shapeshifting is the most advanced, being able to change his appearance and even his aura flawlessly, fooling even the likes of the Lower Ranks.
- #17constant
Keys: demon abilities: unnatural blood
All demons have supernatural and special blood that originate entirely from Muzan. It is the main source of all their abilities, characteristics, attributes and capabilities, thus being the most important aspect of demons. The higher the concentration of Muzan's blood a demon possesses, the overall stronger they are. Once demons grow strong enough, they develop supernatural abilities unique to themselves known as Blood Demon Arts.

Keys: demon weaknesses
Sunlight: The greatest threat to demons is sunlight, which burns their skin, ignites their cells, severely limits their regeneration, and fatally burns them into ashes. The only demons so far to have developed resistance to sunlight are Nezuko Kamado and Tanjiro Kamado.
Nichirin Swords: Nichirin Swords are blades made out of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Crimson Ore, which absorbed sunlight to such an extent that a decapitation strike with such a weapon can instantly kill a demon.[44] There are exceptions, however, as Muzan, Akaza, and Kokushibo overcame this weakness and survived decapitation by these blades.
Wisteria: Wisteria is a plant that is poisonous to demons, and releases a scent that can repel demons. Extract from the plant can be used to create deadly and highly potent poison mixtures to easily kill lesser demons in small amounts, and later contributed to the death of Upper Rank Two Doma, though he had to ingest over 700 times the lethal dosage.
Curse of Kibutsuji: Every demon that assimilated Muzan's blood is also inflicted with a deadly curse which activates if they call out divulge any information about him, even something as minor as his last name: "Kibutsuji". When activated, their regeneration will cease and the cells belonging to Muzan inside the demon will cause three demonic arms to burst out from their bodies and kill them. It has been shown to work both automatically, such as when Susamaru was immediately killed upon accidentally saying his name, or by Muzan himself remotely, such as when he killed another demon on his own accord.
Because of this, many demons regard Muzan with great fear and respect, simply referring to him as "that Man" or "Him" in order to not trigger the curse, while demons within the Twelve Kizuki refer to him as "Lord" or "Master".

Keys: demon abilities: flesh manipulation
Flesh Manipulation, which may sometimes be referred to as Shapeshifting, is an ability which is shared among all demons, and enables them to influence and change certain physical traits. For lesser demons, any and all changes to their biology is mostly involuntary, and presumably occurs during the demonification process where they undergo monstrous mutations, growing horns, pointed nails, fangs and jaws, prominent miscolored veins around the forehead, and usually some kind of marking which resembles a birthmark or tattoo somewhere on their body.
In some cases, lesser demons do have some form of control over their own body, like when the Temple Demon grew arms where his neck should be, and the Hand Demon growing numerous arms and being able to control all of them.[1] Some lesser demons also have special body parts, such as the Tongue Demon who has a tongue sharp enough to cut through a vase. Some may also involuntary gain animal-like characteristics, such as the Serpent Demon and the Elder Brother Spider Demon.
It is implied that as a demon grows stronger, their control over their own flesh increases as well. Members of the Spider Family, which are empowered by the blood of Rui, a member of the Twelve Kizuki, can form basic objects using their own body, such as silk and string that act exactly as they should.
Members of the Twelve Kizuki possess even greater flesh manipulating prowess. Rui can create thin threads out of his own cells that are sharper than blades, while Hairo can turn his body into a "Hammerspace" to store equipment. More impressively, Enmu can fuse his entire body with an object as large as a train, turning the entire locomotive into his flesh, blood, and bones, and forming tendrils and appendages to freely attack all those inside the train. Enmu is also able to freely shape parts of his train body to create constructs to aid him.
Twelve Kizuki members such as Daki and Hantengu's clones have been shown to be capable of creating all kinds of clothing and accessories that are indistinguishable from their normal counterparts, and function and behave exactly as how they normally would, with the sole exception of burning up in the sunlight or upon their death.
Moreover, they can also create weapons out of their own flesh. Hantengu's clones have created a Khakkhara, a maple leaf-shaped Uchiwa, and a Jūmonji Yari. They can be used in combat exactly as how their normal counterparts can possibly due to their own body's unnaturally high durability which can also result in their weapons being more high quality or durable than those used by the Demon Slayers. This flesh-weapon combination have the added benefit of being repaired if damaged like how demons would regenerate any other part of their body, and can also be created at will if it is destroyed or lost.
Some demons' flesh manipulation is of such high fidelity that they can use their flesh and blood to mimic elements such as ice, water, lightning, and wood. They function and behave exactly as they naturally should, with the added benefit that they can be regenerated and created at will.
The flesh manipulation of Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, is perhaps the most potent, being capable of mending entire organs to the point of functioning with 7 hearts and 5 brains inside his body. He can also form orifices such as mouths on his limbs, as well as altering the shape of them at will. He can even create identical clones of himself that he can remotely command.[2] His shapeshifting has also been called extremely precise, as even the Lower Ranks were unable to recognize him.

Keys: the demon slayer corps' history
The Demon Slayer Corps was founded approximately a thousand years ago during the Heian Era. This occurred after Muzan Kibutsuji, a distant relative of the current Ubuyashiki family, inadvertently became the very first demon. As a result, a curse befell the Ubuyashiki bloodline, causing subsequent generations to suffer from premature deaths. Seeking guidance, the Ubuyashiki family heeded the advice of a priest and established the Corps. They took on the responsibility of leading the battle against Muzan and his demons, believing that by eradicating demons from the world, they could break the curse that plagued their bloodline.
In the centuries that followed the establishment of the Corps, they achieved moderate success in eliminating some of the demons Muzan created, but no one was able to reach the Demon King himself. However, during the Sengoku era, the tides turned. A talented swordsman named Yoriichi Tsugikuni joined the Corps after his wife was slain by a demon. He imparted his knowledge of Total Concentration Breathing onto the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. He also endeavored to teach them a Breathing Style known as Sun Breathing, but despite their efforts, none of them could match Yoriichi's level of mastery, so he modified the techniques to suit their individual strengths. These modifications formed the foundation of the first Breathing Styles, from which numerous other styles emerged as branches. The swordsmen of that era were already highly skilled, and when combined with the Breathing Styles, their power increased exponentially. Furthermore, distinct Marks began to appear on the bodies of these swordsmen, further enhancing their abilities. This era of Demon Slayers came to be known as the Golden Age, as they displayed incredible prowess in vanquishing demons with astonishing force and almost eradicated all demons.
However, the Marked Demon Slayers paid a high price for their power, as their lives became forfeit. Despite their perfected techniques, they had no successors to carry on their legacy. Faced with the belief that there was no future for him, Yoriichi's twin brother, Michikatsu, was approached by Muzan, who sought to transform a swordsman skilled in Breathing Styles into a demon. Michikatsu accepted Muzan's offer, renamed himself to Kokushibo, and proceeded to kill the then-Oyakata-sama, presenting the leader's head to Muzan as a display of loyalty. Shortly after, Yoriichi encountered Muzan and nearly succeeded in killing him, but the Demon Progenitor managed to escape. Yoriichi shouldered the responsibility for his brother's betrayal and his own failure to eliminate Muzan, leading to his expulsion from the Demon Slayer Corps.
After his near-death experience, Muzan went into hiding for nearly a century, patiently waiting for his nemesis to pass away of old age. With Yoriichi out of the picture, Muzan set his sights on destroying the Demon Slayer Corps and eliminating the Ubuyashiki Family, the source of the Corps' support. To achieve his goal, Muzan formed an organization called the Twelve Kizuki, comprised of the twelve strongest demons, including Kokushibo, with the sole purpose of exterminating every last Demon Slayer. Over the centuries, the Corps faced numerous life-threatening situations and came perilously close to annihilation, as no Demon Slayers were able to match the power and skill of their exceptional predecessors from the Golden Age and were mercilessly killed by the demons.
Ultimately, during the Taishō era, a new generation of Demon Slayers emerged that was regarded as the strongest since the Golden Age. Among them, Tanjiro Kamado, a practitioner of Sun Breathing, is the first Demon Slayer to awaken the Mark, after which some Hashira followed suit. Engaged in grueling and arduous battles, they confronted and defeated the Upper Rank demons of the Twelve Kizuki and fought valiantly to keep Muzan outside until sunrise, causing him to disintegrate. With Muzan's demise, all the demons he created met their end as well. This decisive victory, after centuries of relentless conflict between the Corps and demons, marked the end of an era and brought about the disbandment of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Keys: the demon slayer corps
The Demon Slayer Corps is as an organization dedicated to hunting and killing demons. Most members of the Demon Slayer Corps are combatants, known as Demon Slayers.
As the Demon Slayer Corps isn't officially recognized by the government, its members are forced to work in secrecy, which means that Demon Slayers cannot openly carry their swords in public. The majority of people are unaware of the existence of demons, and even if Demon Slayers were to reveal the truth about their job, they would be met with skepticism and disbelief from most individuals. Allowing Demon Slayers to openly wield swords would only incite chaos and confusion among the general population. By maintaining a low profile and avoid drawing unnecessary attention, they can carry out their duties covertly and effectively. Nevertheless, whispers of the Demon Slayers have permeated public consciousness, existing as mere folklore in the minds of some. However, when civilians encounter demons or witness a Demon Slayer engaging a demon firsthand, they come face-to-face with the reality of their existence and the truth behind the tales they've heard.
Without any support from the government or other sponsors, the Demon Slayer Corps relies solely on the resources provided by the Ubuyashiki family for its daily operations. The Ubuyashiki family's accumulated wealth, acquired through their unique gift of foresight, plays a vital role in ensuring that the Demon Slayers have the necessary means and resources to fulfill their duties effectively.

Joining In order to become a Demon Slayer, an individual must pass Final Selection, a test used as an entrance exam to join the Demon Slayer Corps. During this selection, examinees must survive for seven days on the mountain top of Mount Fujikasane, a perilous domain infested with demons. The examinees must rely solely on the skills they have developed in training. The majority of candidates participating in the Final Selection have undergone extensive training under the guidance of a cultivator of a Breathing Style. Only when these candidates have reached a satisfactory level of skill and competence, are they entrusted by their Cultivator to partake in the selection. However, there is one exceptional case of a Demon Slayer who entered on their own volition without previous training.
Candidates who complete the Final Selection are issued the standard uniform, as well as being given the opportunity to choose the ore for their Nichirin Sword, which is designed to eliminate demons efficiently. Each new Demon Slayer is also assigned a rare species of talking bird known as the Kasugai Crows for communication purposes.
Salary Mizunoto are roughly paid around 20,000 yen whereas Hashira are paid as much as they want.
Ranks Members of the Demon Slayer Corps are separated into ten different ranks. From lowest rank to highest, these ranks are:
Mizunoto Mizunoe Kanoto Kanoe Tsuchinoto Tsuchinoe Hinoto Hinoe Kinoto Kinoe
Once a Demon Slayer successfully passes the Final Selection and becomes an official member of the Corps, they are initially classified as Mizunoto, the lowest rank within the organization. By undertaking various missions and proving their skills and dedication, they can ascend the ranks and ultimately rise to the highest Demon Slayer position, known as Kinoe.
During the onboarding following the Final Selection, each swordsman has their rank inscribed on Mount Fujikasane, an area adorned with Wisteria flowers. The engraving takes place through a technology called "Wisteria Engraving" and may cause an itchy or tickling sensation on the swordsman's hand. As the swordsman progresses in their Demon Slayer career, they have a means to check their current rank. By uttering a password and clenching their fist, the symbol of their rank will swell up on the back of their hand as the muscles expand. It is worth noting that for the Hashira, instead of the rank symbol, their distinguished title is revealed, reflecting their elevated status within the Corps.
Within the Demon Slayer Corps, there is a group of elites known as the Hashira. This group consists of the most powerful combatants in the organization.
The Hashira, revered for their great strength, are the most highly ranked members of the Corps, second only to the leader of the organization.
In order to become eligible to join the Hashira, a Demon Slayer must either successfully kill 50 demons as a Kinoe ranked Demon Slayer, or independently slay a member of the Twelve Kizuki.
Tsuguko A Tsuguko is a very talented Demon Slayer that has been designated as the successor to one of the Hashira, should that Hashira retire or die. In order to become a Tsuguko, a Demon Slayer can either apply and get accepted, or get scouted by one of the current Hashira.

Keys: demon slayer's equipment
Uniform A Demon Slayer wears a uniform that is highly durable and light-weight, they are also water-resistant and non-flammable. The uniform cannot be easily damaged by the claws and fangs of demons, with the exception of the Twelve Kizuki demons. They sport their uniforms with a white belt and hakama pants, also wearing a white long-sleeved collared shirt under the uniform.
The Demon Slayer uniform appears remarkably similar to a Gakuran uniform, consisting of a buttoned shirt with a white framed collar having the kanji for Destroy engraved on the back, a shirt pocket on top of the left breast and white undershirt. It also consists of long, saggy tattsuke-hakama pants strapped by a white buckled belt that can be optionally tucked in with any kind of Kyahan that extends into tabi socks.
The uniform buttons of the Hashira are gold-colored, whereas lower-ranked Demon Slayers have silver buttons on their uniform.
Nichirin Sword Nichirin Swords are special blades used by and made specifically for the Slayers to slay demons. They are forged from a unique ore that constantly absorbs sunlight, one of the only major weaknesses of demons. Therefore, decapitation by Nichirin Sword is one of the only ways a human can kill a demon, the other being the use of a Wisteria-poison coated weapon.
Nichirin Swords take on a distinct color when first drawn by its owner, which is why they are also referred to as "Color Changing Katanas". However, the holder is required to have a certain amount of skill, or the blade will not change color.
Kasugai Crow Upon passing the entrance exam, each new Slayer is also assigned a Kasugai Crow. These crows posses the ability to speak in full sentences, though their speech is very loud and somewhat limited.
It is the job of these birds to deliver missions to their designated Demon Slayer.

Keys: breathing style: general info
Breathing Styles are swordsmanship styles that makes use of an esoteric breathing technique known as Total Concentration Breathing practiced and taught by members of the Demon Slayer Corps and are used in combat by Demon Slayers (later passed on as traditional dances post-time skip).
All known Breathing Styles currently taught within the Demon Slayer Corps are derived from Sun Breathing, the first one ever created. The majority of known Breathing Styles mimic a certain element of nature (i.e. flame, water and wind) and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. The weapon attacks of Demon Slayers who use Breathing Styles are also longer ranged, possibly due to shockwaves or air pressure generated from their weapon itself when swinging and striking.
New Breathing Styles are always being created to suit a Demon Slayer's combat needs, which results in new weapons being utilized in demon hunting (i.e. flails and whips). Such Breathing Styles embody a bigger variety of concepts, like animals, plants and emotions (i.e. serpents, flowers and love). When utilizing a Breathing Style, users automatically visualize themselves manipulating the subject behind their style, making it seem as if they were using magic, though those that are less apt and proficient in their style will visualize less of it than one who is.
It is possible to mix different Breathing Styles if the user cannot master one particular Breathing Style alone in order to use the stronger aspects of different styles to compensate. Tanjiro, realizing that he could not master Water Breathing like Giyu Tomioka nor could he handle the strain of Hinokami Kagura, showed to be able to combine the two techniques together in order to have stronger strikes than when he used Water Breathing alone and move for longer periods of time than if he used Hinokami Kagura alone. He did this to save Hinatsuru from Gyutaro, and later used it once again during the Infinity Castle Arc to slay dozens of demons.

Keys: breathing style: sun (hinokami kagura)(dance of the fire god)
Hinokami Kagura (ヒノカミ神楽かぐら Hinokami Kagura?, lit. "Dance of the Fire God") is a Breathing Style only known and taught by the Kamado Family, later revealed to be the first Breathing Style, Sun Breathing (日ひの呼こ吸きゅう Hi no kokyū?).
The Hinokami Kagura is a Breathing Style that is passed on from father to son in every generation of Kamado Family alongside the Hanafuda earrings. They use it within a ritual ceremony practiced every new year, where the Breathing Style user offers the Fire God a dance from sunset to sunrise to ward off threats and diseases.
The dance is composed of twelve segments repeated throughout the night until dawn. Tanjuro Kamado noted that the breathing technique utilized in this dance allows the user to never exhaust themselves no matter how long they move, making it such that they can seemingly dance forever. The last user of Hinokami Kagura is Tanjiro Kamado, who learned the Breathing Style from his father Tanjuro Kamado. Other people can learn this technique if taught by a Kamado descendant.
The Hinokami Kagura is later revealed by Shinjuro Rengoku to be a legendary Breathing Style known as Sun Breathing (日ひの呼こ吸きゅう Hi no kokyū?), a long forgotten Breathing Style and the first one to ever be created. All other Breathing Styles are derived from it as the result of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, its creator, modifying it to suit the individuals he taught who were unable to use it.
Both the Hinokami Kagura and Sun Breathing are Breathing Styles that mimic the sun and replicate it with the user's movements, techniques, and abilities. All techniques and forms are extremely varied and have no set pattern, making it the most versatile and effective against demons. Users of Sun Breathing visualize themselves seemingly manipulating solar flames when unleashing its techniques.
Tanjiro noted that using this style increases his overall power and speed, which is due to the fact that his body is more suited to Sun Breathing as opposed to Water Breathing.
Upon seeing Yoriichi perform the twelve forms through his ancestor's memories, Tanjiro realized that, despite being replicated with a surprising degree of accuracy for hundreds of years and his own mastery of Hinokami Kagura, Hinokami Kagura had unnecessary movements, such as different wrist angles, footwork and breathing rhythm, compared to the Sun Breathing directly performed by Yoriichi. Removing them enabled him to use the Breathing Style in its nigh-purest form.
Sun Breathing was initially created with 12 techniques all connected to one another by Yoriichi Tsugikuni. Later upon meeting Muzan Kibutsuji, Yoriichi perfected his swordsmanship form, creating a new unnamed thirteenth form.
Dance (円えん舞ぶ Enbu?) - The user performs a singular downwards vertical slash in an arcing motion. Dancing Flash (円えん舞ぶ一いっ閃せん Enbu Issen?) - A modified version of Dance developed and utilized only by Tanjiro Kamado. The user combines the Thunderclap and Flash technique of Thunder Breathing with the high-powered slash of Dance by inhaling huge amounts of oxygen, increasing the pumping of blood through the entire body, focusing it on the legs, and releasing it all to assault the target with a slash. This technique was capable of out-speeding Genya Shinazugawa, Nezuko Kamado, as well as the fleeing Hantengu. Clear Blue Sky (碧へき羅らの天てん Heki-ra no Ten?) - The user spins and twists their upper body in a circular motion, releasing a 360° slash. Raging Sun (烈れつ日じつ紅こう鏡きょう Retsujitsu Kōkyō?) - The user unleashes two consecutive arcing slashes around themself in order to strike incoming attacks. Burning Bones, Summer Sun (灼しゃっ骨こつ炎えん陽よう Shakkotsu En'yō?) - The user performs a singular slash utilizing a spiraling motion which extends in front of themself to defend from imminent frontal attacks. Setting Sun Transformation (斜しゃ陽よう転てん身しん Shayō Tenshin?) - The user backflips into the air before performing a singular horizontal slash which aims to decapitate the target. Solar Heat Haze (飛ひ輪りん陽かげ炎ろう Hirin Kagerō?) - The user rushes forth, now attempting to deliver a strike seemingly enveloped in a heat-haze, masking the true length and location of the blade to deliver an unexpected strike. Beneficent Radiance (輝き輝き恩おん光こう Kiki Onkō?) - The user spirals into the air whilst performing a swirling slash upwards to strike the target. Sunflower Thrust (陽よう華か突とつ Yōkatotsu?) - The user performs a singular thrust utilizing the tip of their blade to strike the target. Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance (日にち暈うんの龍りゅう・頭かぶり舞まい Nichiun no Ryū Kaburimai?) - The user unleashes a continuous fast and powerful sword attack that takes the form of a Japanese dragon made of solar flames. This technique is capable of decapitating multiple targets at once. Fire Wheel (火か車しゃ Kasha?) - The user flips into the air behind the opponent before unleashing a singular vertical slash in a circular motion to swiftly cut the target in half. Fake Rainbow (幻げん日にち虹こう Gen'nichi Kō?) - The user performs high-speed twists and rotations, thus creating afterimages used mostly to evade attacks. The afterimages work most effectively on enemies with good vision. Flame Dance (炎えん舞ぶ Enbu?) - A two-combo strike which starts with a vertical slash leading into a horizontal slash right after. Thirteenth Form (拾じゅう参さんノ型かた Jū San no kata?) - The user continuously performs all twelve forms of Sun Breathing in repetitive succession to increase the accuracy and agility of its movements, and attacks. This form was created solely for the purpose of killing Muzan Kibutsuji, since the repetition of all twelve forms aims to destroy Muzan's twelve vital organs (seven hearts and five brains) that move freely inside his body.

Keys: breathing style: water
Water Breathing (水みずの呼こ吸きゅう Mizu no kokyū?) is one of the five main Breathing Styles directly derived from Sun Breathing.
Water Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics water, specifically the flow, flexibility and adaptability of the liquid and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques involve the user bending their body, arm and weapon in a fluid motion to match the movements of rushing or flowing water. Users also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating water when unleashing its techniques.
This Breathing Style was originally created by one of Yoriichi Tsugikuni's students who attempted to learn Sun Breathing, but due to not being as innately talented as Yoriichi, they were instead taught and trained an alternative personalized Breathing Style that focused on their strengths and weaknesses, eventually becoming Water Breathing.
It is said to be the most common Breathing Style among Demon Slayers due to being the easiest to learn for beginners. A known Cultivator of Water Breathing in the Demon Slayer Corps is Sakonji Urokodaki, though there are other Cultivators as well.
Water Breathing has 10 techniques, with an eleventh one created and exclusively used by the current Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka along with numerous modified versions of pre-existing forms.
First Form: Water Surface Slash (壱いちノ型かた 水みな面も斬ぎり Ichi no kata: Minamo Giri?) - The user crosses their arms and generates enough momentum to release a singular, concentrated slash which is often horizontal. Second Form: Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた 水みず車ぐるま Ni no kata: Mizu Guruma?) - The user leaps forward into the air and performs a front flip, releasing a singular vertical slash in a circular motion. Second Form: Improved, Lateral Water Wheel (弐にノ型かた・改かい 横よこ水みず車ぐるま Ni no kata kai: Yoko Mizu Guruma?) - An alternate variation of Second Form: Water Wheel created by Tanjiro Kamado that unleashes a horizontal spin instead of a vertical one. Third Form: Flowing Dance (参さんノ型かた 流りゅう流りゅう舞まい San no kata: Ryūryū Mai?) - The user swings and bends their blade in a winding motion along with their body and dances in a flowing pattern, slicing everything in its path. Fourth Form: Striking Tide (肆しノ型かた 打うち潮しお Shi no kata: Uchishio?) - The user performs a multitude of slashes in a flowing fashion to release multiple consecutive slashes. Striking Tide, Turbulent (打うち潮しお・乱らん Uchishio - Ran?) - An improved version of the Fourth Form: Striking Tide. The user increases the quantity of consecutive strikes and slashes along with improving its accuracy in order to contact a specific target during a chaotic situation. Fifth Form: Blessed Rain After the Drought (伍ごノ型かた 干かん天てんの慈じ雨う Go no kata: Kanten no Jiu?) - The user changes the grip on their sword and decapitates the opponent in a single flowing strike that causes little to no pain. It is a “sword strike of kindness” used when the enemy willingly surrenders. Sixth Form: Whirlpool (陸ろくノ型かた ねじれ渦うず Roku no kata: Nejire Uzu?) - The user twists their body, using their blade to perform a fierce whirling motion which generates a whirlpool of air to shred apart anything caught within its current like a giant sharp blade. Its effect and efficiency is enhanced underwater, where the user can draw water around their weapon to create whirling currents that enhance their slashes. Whirlpool, Flow (ねじれ渦うず・流りゅう流りゅう Nejire Uzu - Ryūryū?) - A combination of Third Form: Flowing Dance and Sixth Form: Whirlpool created by Tanjiro Kamado. The user combines the footwork from Flowing Dance and the twisting movements of Whirlpool, performing an attack around the user that conjures a twisting, swirling, vicious flow of water to redirect projectiles from multiple angles. Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust (漆しちノ型かた 雫しずく波は紋もん突づき Shichi no kata: Shizuku Hamon Tsuki?) - The user performs a precise, fast and accurate thrust with their blade Drop Ripple Thrust, Curve (雫しずく波は紋もん突づき・曲きょく Shizuku Hamon Tsuki - Kyoku?) - A modified strike that hits from a specific angle corresponding to the sword's structure which nearly nullifies the impact and momentum of a moving object. Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin (捌はちノ型かた 滝たき壼つぼ Hachi no kata: Takitsubo?) - The user cuts the target vertically in a flowing motion which is most effective when they are falling downward. Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow, Turbulent (玖くノ型かた 水すい流りゅう飛沫しぶき・乱らん Ku no kata: Suiryū Shibuki - Ran?) - The user changes their footwork in a way that minimizes the landing time and surface needed when landing, allowing the user to move without limits. Ideal when fighting in a place with no solid foothold. Tenth Form: Constant Flux (拾じゅうノ型かた 生せい生せい流る転てん Jū no kata: Seisei Ruten?) - The user charges toward the target whilst performing a continuous flowing attack with their blade which increases in strength and speed over time using momentum. Eleventh Form: Dead Calm (拾じゅう壱いちノ型かた 凪なぎ Jū Ichi no kata: Nagi?) - The personal creation of the current Water Hashira, Giyu Tomioka. The user ceases all body movements and enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed with their blade. However, its effectiveness is limited as fast and numerous attacks can break through.

Keys: breathing style: flower
Flower Breathing (花はなの呼こ吸きゅう Hana no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Water Breathing.
Flower Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics flowers and fruits and replicates with the user's movements, techniques, and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms are a combination of graceful attacks that focus on agility. This Breathing Style also enhances and utilizes one's vision, albeit at the possible cost of their eyesight. Users of Flower Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating flowers when unleashing its techniques.
Flower Breathing originally has at least 7 techniques, 5 known techniques including the Final Form.
Second Form: Honorable Shadow Plum (弐にノ型かた 御み影かげ梅うめ Ni no kata: Mikage Ume?) - The user releases several rotating sword slashes that deflects incoming physical attacks. Fourth Form: Crimson Hanagoromo (肆しノ型かた 紅べに花はな衣ごろも Shi no kata: Beni Hanagoromo?) - The user unleashes single sword slash that curves and twists gracefully. Fifth Form: Peonies of Futility (伍ごノ型かた 徒あだの芍しゃく薬やく Go no kata: Ada no Shakuyaku ?) - The user unleashes a flurry of nine consecutive attacks that flow and weave in on themselves. Sixth Form: Whirling Peach (陸ろくノ型かた 渦うず桃もも Roku no kata: Uzumomo?) - A technique used after or during evasion, the user spins around moving with their body weight to deliver an attack. Final Form: Equinoctial Vermilion Eye (終ついノ型かた 彼ひ岸がん朱しゅ眼がん Tsui no kata: Higan Shugan?) - A focusing technique that raises the user's kinetic vision to its maximum, while using this technique the user perceives the world as if it were in slow motion. Usage of the technique, however, is highly dangerous, as the tremendous strain on the eyes could cause blood vessels to rupture and lead to partial or complete blindness. This technique is still usable even if the user only has one fully functional eye.

Keys: breathing style: insect
Insect Breathing (蟲むしの呼こ吸きゅう Mushi no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Flower Breathing.
Insect Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics insects, specifically their lethal stings and movements, and replicates it with user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms include stabbing, thrusting, and making shallow cuts with a specially coated/made sword to inflict multiple wounds onto the intended target in order to inject various lethal wisteria-based poisons into them. Users of Insect Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly manifesting insects (mainly butterflies) when unleashing its techniques.
This Breathing Style is the personal creation of Shinobu Kocho, who designed it to compensate for her lack of physical strength to behead a demon. Hence, this sword style can only be utilized by her and only using a unique katana with a needle-like tip, resembling an insect's stinger in appearance and function. The "stinger" is designed for injection of Wisteria poison into demons. As noted by Doma, the blade sheath was also designed as a portable poison mixer, allowing Shinobu to change the poison that coats her blade at a moment's notice.
Insect Breathing has 4 known techniques and forms at minimum.
Butterfly Dance: Caprice (蝶ちょうノ舞まい 戯たわむれ Chō no mai: Tawamure?) - The user leaps into the air and charges towards the opponent, stinging them multiple times with their blade to inject poison in just seemingly one strike. Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter (蜂ほう牙がノ舞まい 真ま靡なびき Hōga no mai: Manabiki?) - The user dashes at their target at blinding speeds and uses the momentum of their speed to then strengthen a single thrust into their opponent and inject poison into them. Dance of the Dragonfly: Compound Eye Hexagon (蜻せい蛉れいノ舞まい 複ふく眼がん六ろっ角かく Seirei no mai: Fukugan Rokkaku?) - A six strike attack with which the user aims to strike and inject their target with multiple doses of poison at the target's weak spots (such as the neck, heart, torso, etc.) in order to kill them with a large dose of poison. Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag (蜈ご蚣こうノ舞まい 百ひゃく足そく蛇じゃ腹ばら Gokō no mai: Hyakusoku Jabara?) - An attack with which the user uses their full speed to run a zigzag pattern that confuses their opponent in order to create an opening for them to directly stab their opponent's neck and inject poison to kill them, with the stab's force and power being further enhanced by the momentum of their speed. Doma noted that the sheer speed of this technique is strong enough to destroy an entire wooden bridge.

Keys: breathing style: serpant
Serpent Breathing (蛇へびの呼こ吸きゅう Hebi no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Water Breathing.
Serpent Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics serpents/snakes, specifically their slithering motions, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms focuses on twisting and bending the sword like how a serpent slithers, the attacks are not direct and constantly meander which can ultimately strike anywhere. Users of Serpent Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly manifesting white serpents that accompany them when unleashing its techniques.
Since this technique is currently known to only be utilized by Obanai Iguro, it can only be used with a twisted blade that is similar in appearance to an Indonesian Kris Sword, with the sword's shape modeled into the bodily structure of a snake.
First Form: Winding Serpent Slash (壱いちノ型かた 委い蛇だ斬ぎり Ichi no kata: Idagiri?) - The user moves like a slithering snake and releases several slashes in a winding pattern. Second Form: Venom Fangs of the Narrow Head (弐にノ型かた 狭きょう頭ずの毒どく牙が Ni no kata: Kyōzu no Dokuga?) - The user dashes behind their opponent at blinding speed and aims to swiftly slice off their head. Third Form: Coil Choke (参さんノ型かた 塒とぐろ締じめ San no kata: Toguro Jime?) - The user circles around their opponent while using their sword to slice them from all directions. Fourth Form: Twin-Headed Reptile (肆しノ型かた 頸けい蛇じゃ双そう生せい Shi no kata: Keija Sōsei?) - The user leaps forward and performs a horizontal slash that slices through the target. Fifth Form: Slithering Serpent (伍ごノ型かた 蜿えん蜿えん長ちょう蛇だ Go no kata: En'en Chōda?) - The user curves their sword in multiple directions and slices their opponent, making it capable of decapitating multiple enemies at once.

Keys: breathing style: wind
Wind Breathing (風かぜの呼こ吸きゅう Kaze no kokyū?) is one of the five Breathing Styles derived directly from Sun Breathing.
Wind Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics wind, specifically powerful torrents of air and whirlwinds, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms involve purely offensive attacks, most of which utilizing rotating movements to generate swift whirlwind-like slashes that greatly increase the wielder's striking range or utilizing the air around them to deliver sharp sickle-shaped attacks. Users of Wind Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating wind when unleashing its techniques.
This Breathing Style is also extremely reminiscent of the real life swordsmanship style, Jigen-ryū, a sword wielding style that emphasizes on the opening strike and high stances.
This Breathing Style was created from one of Yoriichi Tsugikuni's students who attempted to learn Sun Breathing, but due to not being as innately powerful as Yoriichi, they were instead taught an alternated personalized Breathing Style that focused on their individual strengths and weaknesses, which eventually evolved into Wind Breathing.
First Form: Dust Whirlwind Cutter (壱いちノ型かた 鹿じん旋せん風ぷう・削そぎ Ichi no kata: Jin Senpū - Sogi?) - The user dashes forward at blinding speeds and slashes continuously in a horizontal cyclone pattern. Second Form: Claws-Purifying Wind (弐にノ型かた 爪そう々そう・科しな戸と風かぜ Ni no kata: Sōsō - Shinato Kaze?) - The user lifts the sword upwards towards the right, above their head and unleashes four vertical slashes at once down on the enemy resembling claws. Third Form: Clean Storm Wind Tree (参さんノ型かた 晴せい嵐らん風ふう樹じゅ San no kata: Seiran Fūju?) - The user unleashes a whirlwind of slashes around their body that can defend them from incoming attacks and slice up their surroundings. Fourth Form: Rising Dust Storm (肆しノ型かた 昇しょう上じょう砂さ塵じん嵐らん Shi no kata: Shōjō Sajinran?) - The user releases several slashes above them from below their target. Fifth Form: Cold Mountain Wind (伍ごノ型かた 木こ枯がらし颪おろし Go no kata: Kogarashi Oroshi?) - The user creates several circular arched slashes that increase in size from above their target. Sixth Form: Black Wind Mountain Mist (陸ろくノ型かた 黒こく風ふう烟えん嵐らん Roku no kata: Kokufū Enran?) - The user rotates their body in an uppercut movement, creating an arcing slash. Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts (漆しちノ型かた 頸けい風ふう・天てん狗ぐ風かぜ Shichi no kata: Keifū - Tengu Kaze?) - The user leaps into the air while swinging their blade which generates gale-force winds to shred their opponent apart. Eighth Form: Primary Gale Slash (捌はちノ型かた 初しょ烈れっ風かざ斬きり Hachi no kata: Sho Rekkaza Kiri?) - The user leaps into the air and swings their blade which generates circular torrents of wind that slices up the opponent instantly. Ninth Form: Idaten Typhoon (玖くノ型かた 韋い駄だ天てん台たい風ふう Ku no kata: Idaten Taifū?)[ - The user backflips into the air and while upside-down, unleashes a powerful gust of circular wind that slashes apart anything below.

Keys: breathing style: beast
Beast Breathing (獣ケダモノの呼こ吸きゅう Kedamono no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style that is distantly derived from Wind Breathing.
Beast Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics beasts/wild animals, specifically their unpredictable, ferocious and wild nature, including movements, attacks and senses, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms are simple, straight-forward yet wild, unpredictable and animalistic movements and attacks, although one of them utilizes the powerful sense of touch to replicate an animal's primal senses. Users of Beast Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly manifesting the fangs and claw slashes of a wild animal when unleashing its techniques.
Since this Breathing Style is personally created and self-taught by Inosuke Hashibira after living in the mountains and fighting for survival, it can be assumed that it can only be utilized by someone with dual Nichirin katanas and an extremely acute sense of touch.
Beast Breathing has ten known techniques with an improvisation technique created during Inosuke's fight with Doma. Unlike other Breathing techniques, only supplement moves are called "Forms", as assaulting Beast Breathing moves are called "Fangs" instead.
First Fang: Pierce (壱いちノ牙きば 穿うがち抜ぬき Ichi no kiba: Ugachi Nuki?) - The user stabs the target's neck with both blades. Second Fang: Slice (弐にノ牙きば 切きり裂さき Ni no kiba: Kirisaki?) - The user unleashes a double slash with two blades in an X-shaped cut. Third Fang: Devour (参さんノ牙きば 喰くい裂ざき San no kiba: Kuizaki?) - The user releases simultaneous horizontal slashes towards the target's throat to decapitate them. Fourth Fang: Slice 'n' Dice (肆しノ牙きば 切きり細こま裂ざき Shi no kiba: Kiri Komazaki?) - The user delivers multiple diagonal double slashes with both swords. Fifth Fang: Crazy Cutting (伍ごノ牙きば 狂くるい裂ざき Go no kiba: Kuruizaki?) - The user slices everything in all directions while in mid-air. Sixth Fang: Palisade Bite (陸ろくノ牙きば 乱らん杭ぐい咬がみ Roku no kiba: Ranguigami?) - The user releases simultaneous slashes with two swords from both directions in a saw-like movement. Seventh Form: Spatial Awareness (漆しちノ型かた 空くう間かん識しき覚かく Shichi no kata: Kūkan Shikikaku?) - The user utilizes their sense of touch to identify the position of enemies and their weaknesses by feeling small disturbances in the air. This technique was so strong that Inosuke Hashibira could sense all the demons spread out through a whole mountain. Eighth Form: Explosive Rush (捌はちノ型かた 爆ばく裂れつ猛もう進しん Hachi no kata: Bakuretsu Mōshin?) - The user charges towards their opponent at blinding speeds, ignoring all incoming attacks. Ninth Fang: Extending Bendy Slash (玖くノ牙きば 伸しん・うねり裂ざき Ku no kiba: Shin - Unerizaki?) - The user dislocates the joints of their arm to increase the range of their attack, and then unleashing a fast swinging forward strike. Tenth Fang: Whirling Fangs (拾じゅうノ牙きば 円えん転てん旋せん牙が Jū no kiba: Enten Senga?) - The user rapidly spins their swords in a circular motion, deflecting enemy attacks such as projectiles. Eleventh Fang: Sudden Throwing Strike (思おもいつきの投なげ裂さき Omoitsuki no Nagesaki?) - The user throws both of their blades in a spinning motion at an enemy.

Keys: breathing style: mist
Mist Breathing (霞かすみの呼こ吸きゅう Kasumi no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Wind Breathing.
Mist Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics mist, specifically the obscurity of mist, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms involve obscure movements and attacks that disorientate and confuse the target, similar to how a thick layer of mist obscures one's vision. Users of Mist Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating mist when unleashing its techniques.
Based on Mist Breathing's only known user, Muichiro Tokito, who wears baggy clothing that covers his arms and legs in order to conceal his movements as much as possible, it can be assumed that most other users would also have to don clothing that hide their limbs from their enemy in order to fully maximize the potential of this Breathing Style.
First Form: Low Clouds, Distant Haze (壱いちノ型かた 垂すい天てん遠とお霞がすみ Ichi no kata: Suiten Tōgasumi?) - The user performs a singular and powerful frontal thrust. Second Form: Eight-Layered Mist (弐にノ型かた 八や重え霞かすみ Ni no kata: Yaekasumi?) - The user performs eight slashes in quick succession. Third Form: Scattering Mist Splash (参さんノ型かた 霞か散さんの飛し沫ぶき San no kata: Kasan no Shibuki?) - The user performs a powerful and swift circular slash that can blow away incoming projectiles. Fourth Form: Shifting Flow Slash (肆しノ型かた 移い流りゅう斬ぎり Shi no kata: Iryūgiri?) - The user takes a low stance before dashing toward the target and slashing them. Fifth Form: Sea of Clouds and Haze (伍ごノ型かた 霞か雲うんの海うみ Go no kata: Kaun no Umi?) - The user charges at their target at blistering speeds while performing dozens of slashes in front and/or around them. Sixth Form: Lunar Dispersing Mist (陸ろくノ型かた 月つきの霞か 消しょう Roku no kata: Tsuki no Kashō?) - The user leaps into the air and performs a multitude of slashes in a somersaulting motion, decimating dozens of targets at once. Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds (漆しちノ型かた 朧おぼろ Shichi no kata: Oboro?) - The personal creation of Muichiro Tokito. A movement-based technique designed to heavily disorientate the target, which is done so by fluctuating the user's tempo. When the user appears before the target, they move incredibly slow, but then accelerate to blistering speeds before getting hit, making it seem like they disappeared into a cloud of mist. When done repeatedly, it can disorientate the target to the point of making them think they are being covered in a thick layer of mist.

Keys: breathing style: stone
Stone Breathing (岩いわの呼こ吸きゅう Iwa no kokyū?) is one of the five main Breathing Styles derived from Sun Breathing.
Stone Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics earth and stone and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms utilize the ground beneath the user and the vast surroundings to generate powerful and sturdy attacks that specialize in both offense and defense.
The Breathing Style was originally created by one of Yoriichi Tsugikuni's students who attempted to learn Sun Breathing, but, due them to not being as innately powerful as Yoriichi, they were unable to master it and was instead taught an alternative personalized Breathing Style by their teacher that focused specifically on their strengths and weaknesses, eventually branching out completely and becoming Stone Breathing.
Based on the only user in the series, Gyomei Himejima, it can be assumed that Stone Breathing can only be used with a flail and/or axe. However, in Kokushibo's flashback, the progenitor of Stone Breathing is seen wielding a giant Kusarigama-like weapon.
First Form: Serpentinite Bipolar (壱いちノ型かた 蛇じゃ紋もん岩がん・双そう極きょく Ichi no kata: Jamongan - Sōkyoku?) - The user throws both the flail and axe towards their intended target and manipulates the chain by rotating it thus causing the axe and flail to also rotate in order to drill and grind right through his target. Second Form: Upper Smash (弐にノ型かた 天てん面めん砕くだき Ni no kata: Tenmen Kudaki?) - The user throws both his axe and spiked flail for a pincer move before smashing down on the chain to cause the flail to then rebound and smash his target from afar. Third Form: Stone Skin (参さんノ型かた 岩がん軀くの膚はだえ San no kata: Ganku no Hadae?) - The user unleashes a series of slashes with his axe deflecting nearby attacks. Fourth Form: Volcanic Rock, Rapid Conquest (肆しノ型かた 流りゅう紋もん岩がん・速そく征せい Shi no kata: Ryūmongan - Sokusei?) - The user manipulates both the flail and axe weapons at both ends of the chain by swinging the chain on both sides in order to strike his opponents using a two pronged wide ranged attack. Fifth Form: Arcs of Justice (伍ごノ型かた 瓦が輪りん刑ぎょう部ぶ Go no kata: Garin Gyōbu?) - The user utilizes a powerful barrage with his flail and axe, doing a great amount of damage. The axe is destined to hit first with the trajectory of the flail following from the opposite side and slamming into the opponent.

Keys: breathing style: moon
Moon Breathing (月つきの呼こ吸きゅう Tsuki no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Sun Breathing
Moon Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics the moon, specifically the shape of traditional crescent moons, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms are standard yet varied swordsmanship techniques that focus on swift and powerful strikes which blends both offense and defense. Most sword slashes performed follow the shape and pattern of crescent moons.
Like all of the other original Breathing Styles, Moon Breathing also branched out of Sun Breathing. When its creator, Michikatsu Tsugikuni, attempted to learn Sun Breathing from his twin brother, Yoriichi Tsugikuni, he discovered he was unable to master it, instead creating and mastering an alternate Breathing Style which later became Moon Breathing.[1]
Moon Breathing is solely used by Michikatsu Tsugikuni, one of the first Demon Slayers who utilized Total Concentration Breathing, and is a Breathing Style which he continued using and perfecting after becoming a demon. Kokushibo uses Moon Breathing in conjunction which his Blood Demon Art, which allows him to unleash barrages of erratic crescent moon-shaped blades, an ability which compliments his Breathing Style and also made it more deadly and effective.
As Kyojuro Rengoku and Muichiro Tokito, two high-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps, was not aware of the existence of Moon Breathing, it is possible that the knowledge of its existence was either lost in history (similar to the Demon Slayer Marks) or intentionally forbidden due to the associated user's actions: defecting to Muzan Kibutsuji and killing a head of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Due to Kokushibo's centuries-long existence, he has created the most number of forms out of all known Breathing Styles, having developed a minimum of 16 techniques by the time of the Infinity Castle Arc.
Note: Since all of the Moon Breathing techniques shown are performed either with the help of or in conjunction with a Blood Demon Art, it is unknown how a human swordsman will perform these techniques. Moreover, several of the forms were performed with an elongated version of Kokushibo's flesh katana.
First Form: Dark Moon, Evening Palace (壱いちノ型かた 闇やみ月づき・宵よいの宮みや Ichi no kata: Yamidzuki - Yoi no Miya?) - Kokushibo draws his katana and performs a singular horizontal slash following a crescent shape, creating numerous chaotic crescent blades along its path, before sheathing it back into his scabbard. This technique is extremely reminiscent of Iaijutsu. Second Form: Pearl Flower Moongazing (弐にの型かた 珠しゅ華かノ弄ろう月げつ Ni no kata: Shuka no Rōgetsu?) - Kokushibo performs three crescent-shaped slashes while releasing a multitude of crescent moon blades along with them. Third Form: Loathsome Moon, Chains (参さんノ型かた 厭えん忌き月づき・銷つがり San no kata: Enkidzuki - Tsugari?) - Kokushibo performs two extremely broad crescent-shaped slashes directly in front of him, from which a storm of smaller crescent moon blades are released. Fifth Form: Moon Spirit Calamitous Eddy (伍ごノ型かた 月げっ魄ぱく災さい渦か Go no kata: Geppaku Saika?) - Kokushibo creates multiple long and curved slashes layered over one another, essentially creating a vortex of crescent moon blades. As stated by Sanemi Shinazugawa, this technique was performed without Kokushibo swinging his katana. Sixth Form: Perpetual Night, Lonely Moon - Incessant (陸ろくノ型かた 常とこ夜よ孤こ月げつ・無む間けん Roku no kata: Tokoyo Kogetsu - Muken?) - Kokushibo rapidly performs a multitude of curved slashes several meters in front of him that releases a wild barrage of crescent moon blades capable of slicing up the surroundings. Seventh Form: Mirror of Misfortune, Moonlit (漆しちノ型かた 厄やっ鏡きょう・月づき映ばえ Shichi no kata: Yakkyō - Dzukibae?) - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs a frontal crescent-shaped slash that unleashes numerous straight and curved slashes that expand outward. Eighth Form: Moon-Dragon Ringtail (捌はちノ型かた 月げつ龍りゆう輪りん尾び Hachi no kata: Getsuryū Rinbi?) - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs a massive long-ranged curved slash that leaves dozens of crescent moon blades along its path. Ninth Form: Waning Moonswaths (玖くノ型かた 降くだり月づき・連れん面めん Ku no kata: Kudaridzuki - Renmen?) - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs multiple curved slashes, all in close proximity, that leave numerous crescent moon blades along its path. Tenth Form: Drilling Slashes, Moon Through Bamboo Leaves (拾じゅうノ型かた 穿せん面めん斬ざん・蘿ら月げつ Jū no kata: Senmenzan - Ragetsu?) - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo creates three rotating circular saw-like slashes with crescent moon blades following their path. Fourteenth Form: Catastrophe, Tenman Crescent Moon (拾じゅう肆しノ型かた 兇きょう変へん・天てん満まん繊せん月げつ Jū Shi no kata: Kyōhen - Tenman Sengetsu?) - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo performs a multitude of curved slashes which expand outward in every direction that incrementally grow in size, essentially creating an omni-directional vortex of crescent moon blades that surrounds him. Sixteenth Form: Moonbow, Half Moon (拾じゅう陸ろくノ型かた 月虹げっこう・片かた割われ月づき Jū Roku no kata: Gekkō - Katawaredzuki?)[ - Using his altered katana, Kokushibo swings upward, sending six curved slashes crashing down several meters in front of him, powerful enough to leave craters in their wake.

Keys: breathing style: flame
Flame Breathing (炎ほのおの呼こ吸きゅう Honō no kokyū?) is one of the five main Breathing Styles directly derived from Sun Breathing.
Flame Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics flames and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms involve extremely powerful singular strikes which 'burn' their opponents, with most attacks being initiated from a high stance. Users of Flame Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating fire when unleashing its techniques.
This Breathing Style was created by one of the Demon Slayers during the Sengoku period, who was the head of the Rengoku family. Yoriichi Tsugikuni attempted to teach him and the other Demon Slayers Sun Breathing, but due to them not being as innately powerful as Yoriichi, they were instead taught an alternated personalized Breathing Style that focused on their individual strengths and weaknesses. In the case of the Rengoku ancestor, the technique evolved into Flame Breathing.
From then onwards, the Breathing Style has been passed down for generations and the Flame Hashira position was always fulfilled by someone from their lineage. Kyojuro Rengoku carried the tradition forward in the footsteps of his father and former Flame Hashira, Shinjuro Rengoku. However, after Kyojuro's death, Rengoku family's long-standing tradition of passing down the Flame Breathing technique has come to an end.
Flame Breathing has 9 techniques in total, with six known forms. Among these, the Ninth Form: Rengoku is an "Esoteric Art" exclusive to the Rengoku family.
First Form: Unknowing Fire (壱いちノ型かた 不知火しらぬい Ichi no kata: Shiranui?) - The user dashes towards the target at tremendous speeds, before unleashing a singular horizontal slash directed at the targets neck for a decapitation. Second Form: Rising Scorching Sun (弐にノ型かた 昇のぼり炎えん天てん Ni no kata: Nobori En Ten?) - The user unleashes an arcing vertical slash in an upwards motion, often brought up from a tail guard. Third Form: Blazing Universe (参さんノ型かた 氣き炎えん万ばん象しょう San no kata: Kien Banshō?) - The user performs an arcing downwards vertical slash, often brought down from a high guard. Fourth Form: Blooming Flame Undulation (肆しノ型かた 盛せい炎えんのうねり Shi no kata: Sei En no Uneri?) - The user performs a singular slash or multiple if needed, in a fluid circular motion to defend from incoming attacks and decapitate multiple targets. Fifth Form: Flame Tiger (伍ごノ型かた 炎えん虎こ Go no kata: Enko?) - The user dashes forth, bringing their blade into a high guard before performing a series of sword slashes which take the form of a flaming tiger enveloping the user. Ninth Form: Rengoku (玖くノ型かた 煉れん獄ごく Ku no kata: Rengoku?, lit. "Ninth Form: Purgatory") - The most powerful Flame Breathing technique. The user assumes a high stance before performing an extremely high-speed dash towards the target and unleashing a singular, devastating slash. The technique is powerful enough to completely carve out the ground in its wake. In the movie and anime adaptation, this technique seemingly took the form of a flaming Japanese dragon that envelopes the user as they are charging towards the target.

Keys: breathing style: thunder
Thunder Breathing (雷かみなりの呼こ吸きゅう Kaminari no kokyū?) is one of the five main Breathing Styles directly derived from Sun Breathing.
Thunder Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics lightning, specifically swift strikes and movements akin to lightning ripping through the sky, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms involve utilizing blinding speeds and immensely fast attacks to overwhelm the enemy in an instant. Users of Thunder Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly creating and manipulating lightning and electricity when unleashing its techniques.
It has been remarked by Zenitsu Agatsuma that this Breathing Style focuses on channeling strength into the user's legs, and maximizing the output of every single muscle and blood vessel in them. Users also mimic lightning to such high fidelity that they cause the air to vibrate when poised to unleash a technique and create immensely loud sounds akin to thunder with their mere footsteps. This Breathing Style is also very reminiscent of a swordsmanship style practiced and utilized in real life known as Iaijutsu, a famous quick-draw sword technique.
This Breathing Style was created from one of Yoriichi Tsugikuni's students who attempted to learn Sun Breathing, but due to not being as innately powerful as Yoriichi, they were instead taught an alternated personalized Breathing Style that focused on their individual strengths and weaknesses, which eventually evolved into Thunder Breathing.
A known cultivator of Thunder Breathing in the Demon Slayer Corps is the former Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima.
Thunder Breathing has 6 standard forms in total, with the first form said to be the foundation for all the other forms. However, Zenitsu Agatsuma developed a Seventh Form in order to stand on equal ground with Kaigaku, his former senior disciple under Jigoro who had become the Upper Rank Six of the Twelve Kizuki.
Note: The second to sixth forms of Thunder Breathing have only been displayed by Kaigaku, who uses actual lightning in conjunction with his swordsmanship. While the forms are presumably still similar to the original style, it is currently unknown how a normal swordsman would perform these techniques, or if mastery of the first form would alter how the others are executed.
First Form: Thunderclap and Flash (壱いちノ型かた 霹へき靂れき一いっ閃せん Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen?) - The user unsheathes their katana, dashes forward at blinding speeds and decapitates their opponent faster than they can react, before sheathing it back. This technique is extremely reminiscent of Iaijutsu and its movements are described to be akin to "lightning ripping through the air". Sixfold (六ろく連れん Rokuren?) - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash six times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes. Eightfold (八はち連れん Hachiren?) - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash eight times in quick succession while slightly augmenting the power and speed of his dashes. Godspeed (神しん速そく Shinsoku?) - An extension of the Thunderclap and Flash technique created by Zenitsu. The user performs Thunderclap and Flash while greatly augmenting the speed of the technique. During the first display of this technique, an unconscious Zenitsu remarked that he mustn't perform this technique more than 2 times, otherwise his legs would be rendered useless due to muscle fatigue and exhaustion. However, during the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, Zenitsu has shown improvement in the proficiency of this technique, allowing him to use it more than 2 times while still maintaining the power and speed of the technique. Second Form: Rice Spirit (弐にノ型かた 稲いな魂だま Ni no kata: Inadama?) - Kaigaku releases five arched slashes accompanied by lightning in quick succession. Third Form: Thunder Swarm (参さんノ型かた 聚しゅう蚊ぶん成せい雷らい San no kata: Shūbun Seirai?) - Kaigaku surrounds the enemy with waves of arched lightning and attacks them from all directions. Fourth Form: Distant Thunder (肆しノ型かた 遠えん雷らい Shi no kata: Enrai?) - Kaigaku generates a ball of electricity that releases waves of strong multi-directional lightning bolts from afar. Fifth Form: Heat Lightning (伍ごノ型かた 熱ねつ界かい雷らい Go no kata: Netsu Kairai?) - Kaigaku unleashes a long-ranged upward sword slash accompanied by lightning. Sixth Form: Rumble and Flash (陸ろくノ型かた 電でん轟ごう雷らい轟ごう Roku no kata: Dengō Raigō?) - Kaigaku releases a series of powerful long-ranged lightning attacks that strike his opponent from afar. Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami (漆しちノ型かた 火ほの雷いかづちの神かみ Shichi no kata: Honoikazuchi no Kami?, lit. Seventh Form: Flaming Thunder God) - The personal creation of Zenitsu Agatsuma. The user dashes forward at blinding speeds and unleashes a singular forward slash at a low stance, which is seemingly accompanied by a yellow Japanese dragon shaped like a lightning bolt.

Keys: breathing style: love
Love Breathing (恋こいの呼こ吸きゅう Koi no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Flame Breathing.
Love Breathing is a Breathing Style that is based on the emotion of love, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques inculcate a gymnastic and movement-oriented rhythm into the user's attacks, making use of their superhuman flexibility, dexterity, and agility to perform wide, winding and weaving slashes that have mid-to-long range applications. Users of Love Breathing also visualize pink and green sparks as well as pink lines that follow the direction of their attacks.
This Breathing Style is the personal creation of Mitsuri Kanroji, made by altering the Flame Breathing she learned from Kyojuro Rengoku to suit her special composition and physiology. It takes advantage of her body's unique muscle density, which grants her inhuman strength without making her physically bulky, to deliver fast and powerful blows while moving with incredible flexibility and agility. As it relies on her body's special composition, it is a style only she can use. It can also be assumed that this Breathing Style is most effective with a whip-like katana, however, a regular one can also be used as shown in the Gaiden.
Love Breathing has 6 forms at minimum, with 5 known forms.
First Form: Shivers of First Love (壱いちノ型かた 初はつ恋こいのわななき Ichi no kata: Hatsukoi no Wananaki?) - The user dashes forward and performs a single slash that winds through the target, hitting multiple areas with one slice. Second Form: Love Pangs (弐にノ型かた 懊おう悩のう巡めぐる恋こい Ni no kata: Ōnō Meguru Koi?) - The user performs a singular, long-winding swing that cuts the target at multiple angles. Third Form: Catlove Shower (参さんノ型かた 恋こい猫ねこしぐれ San no kata: Koi Neko Shigure?) - The user leaps into the air and performs multiple arched slashes in quick succession. Fifth Form: Swaying Love, Wildclaw (伍ごノ型かた 揺ゆらめく恋れん情じょう・乱みだれ爪づめ Go no kata: Yurameku Renjō Midarezume?) - The user leaps into the air before performing a somersault and releasing dozens of rapid, winding slashes from afar that essentially form a tornado of slashes. Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Winds of Love (陸ろくノ型かた 猫ねこ足あし恋こい風かぜ Roku no kata: Neko Ashi Koi Kaze?) - The user fully extends their sword to perform an arcing slash before retracting it and extending it once more, done in quick succession to form a layers of slashes.

Keys: breathing style: sound
Sound Breathing (音おとの呼こ吸きゅう Oto no kokyū?) is a Breathing Style derived from Thunder Breathing.
Sound Breathing is a Breathing Style that mimics sound, specifically its disorientating loudness, and replicates it with the user's movements, techniques and abilities. Most, if not all, known techniques and forms utilize explosives to deal massive amounts of damage while making use of extremely fast movements similar to how fast sound travels as well as the user's sense of hearing. Users of Sound Breathing also visualize themselves seemingly generating and manipulating loud sounds and explosives when unleashing its techniques.
The only known user, Tengen Uzui uses a technique developed using his superhuman sense of hearing called Musical Score (譜ふ面めん Fumen?), which involves Tengen reading his opponents movements and deconstructing them into sound by analyzing the rhythm of their movements. Through this, he is able to take advantage of their openings to much greater effect by striking in a way similar to making the beat to a song. In conjunction with this, he uses small but powerful anti-demon bombs that are capable of damaging the bodies of Upper Rank demons.
Since this combat style was presumably created by Tengen, it can only be used with a specific set of weaponry, which is two gigantic nunchucks-like Nichirin Cleavers, which each have a notch in the sharp ends of their blades and are held together at the hilt by a metal chain. His swords are said to have large amounts of explosive power, and it is stated that, until Tengen's fight with Upper Rank Six, no demon had ever survived a blow from them.
Sound Breathing has 5 techniques and forms at minimum, with 3 known techniques.
First Form: Roar (壱いちノ型かた 轟とどろき Ichi no kata: Todoroki?) - The user lifts their twin swords above their head and slams them down with great force, causing a loud sound resembling thunder as a result. Fourth Form: Constant Resounding Slashes (肆しノ型かた 響きょう斬ざん無む間けん Shi no kata: Kyōzan Muken?) - The user holds their twin swords apart and spins them rapidly around themselves, enabling the blades to destroy anything it makes contact with for powerful defensive capabilities around the user. Fifth Form: String Performance (伍ごノ型かた 鳴めい弦げん奏そう々そう Go no kata: Meigen Sōsō?) - The user holds the chain of their twin swords and rotates the blades at high speed while charging forward. The spin of the blades without changing grip allows for continual slashes while still being in motion.

Keys: the demon slayer mark
The Demon Slayer Mark (鬼き殺さつ痣あざ Kisatsu Aza?) is a mysterious marking that Demon Slayers can awaken under specific conditions.
During the Sengoku Era, the Golden Age of Demon Slayers, the progenitors of the first ever Breathing Styles all manifested markings on their bodies, which later came to be known as Demon Slayer Marks.
Demon Slayer Marks are irregularities on the skin that resembles a birthmark and which commonly appears on the face or another visible location of the body of Demon Slayers that resemble the crests of demons. Each Demon Slayer possesses a unique pattern to their Mark which appear to be based on the Breathing Style they utilize. The Mark can only be awakened under very specific conditions and grant special abilities while also enhancing pre-existing traits of the bearer. Once awakened, the Mark can disappear after a period of time along with its effects, though it can be re-activated (as seen with Muichiro Tokito and Tanjiro Kamado) by meeting the same conditions or through training to maintain the 'Marked state' to prevent it from dissipating in the first place.
One special property of the Mark is that it is able to spread from one bearer to the other as if they were resonating which each other.
Although this could only be the case for Tanjiro Kamado, the Demon Slayer Mark has been shown to grow in length and size after repeatedly awakening it, which can possibly improve how much the Mark enhances the bearer's abilities.
Unlocking For one to awaken the Mark, one of the criteria they have to meet is surviving extremely life-threatening conditions, specifically, a heart rate of over 200 beats per minute (BPM) and a body temperature of over 39° Celsius (102.2° Fahrenheit), conditions which can prove to be fatal in most cases. Muichiro Tokito states that survival is the key difference that separates those that are Marked and those who fail to awaken it.
However, perhaps the most important prerequisite is being in contact with an individual that possesses the Mark, or has been Marked before. Without fulfilling this condition, the Mark cannot be awakened at all.
Origin The progenitor of the Mark is Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the strongest Demon Slayer in existence as well as the progenitor of Breathing Styles. Unlike other Demon Slayers that have to meet specific conditions to activate the Mark, Yoriichi was born with it. Upon joining the Demon Slayer Corps, Yoriichi spread the Mark to all other swordsmen in the organization, enabling them to awaken their own Marks as well.
Despite how common the Mark was among the Demon Slayers during that era, most records of the Mark were lost to time either because the bearers then did not think preserving the information was important and/or because the information was lost in the many times the Demon Slayer Corps was nearly annihilated.
Abilities Bright Red Nichirin Sword: Bearers of the Demon Slayer Mark can dye their Nichirin Swords a shining bright red color mainly through clashing their blade with another Marked swordsman's or gripping it with tremendous force. Bright red Nichirin swords have the ability to generate intense heat and also hamper the regeneration of demons, some of which on the level of the strongest Upper Ranks and the Demon King himself.
Enhanced Physical Capabilities: Upon awakening the Mark, the physical strength and speed of the bearer is exponentially increased to the point where Hashira or Hashira-level Demon Slayers are able to overpower and defeat the lowest of the Upper Ranks and fight on equal ground and grow in power comparable to the highest among them. It is implied that the bearer's physical arm strength is increased by around 100x after awakening the Mark, though it could be a hyperbole and thus the value could be much lower. The increase in the speed of the bearer is quite apparent as well, as seen with Muichiro Tokito who was having trouble dealing with Upper Rank Five's various techniques and later being capable of regularly out-speeding and even blitzing him in Gyokko's awakened form after Muichiro activated his Mark.
Enhanced Resistance: It is implied that the Mark increases the bearer's resistance to Muzan's demon-transforming blood similar to how Total Concentration Breathing does.
Transparent World: Bearers of the Mark can potentially gain access and see into the 'Transparent World', allowing them to perceive the bodies of others as if their skin was transparent. This enables them to track the flow of blood, breathing, muscular contractions and joint movements of the person they are looking at which can be used to predict their movements and evade their attacks with ease. Additionally, those who can access the Transparent World can perceive the world in slow-motion, further increasing their reaction and movement speed.
Curse of the Mark Awakening the Demon Slayer Mark also has its costs. Demon Slayers who have awakened their Mark are said to, without exception, die before reaching the age of 25. Kokushibo states that awakening the Mark merely reduces the lifespans of their bearers in exchange for greater power while Gyomei describes it as "paying one's lifespan in advance in the exchange for a greater physique" in a conversation with Muichiro.
However, Kokushibo managed to survive through accepting Muzan's offer to become a demon, living for roughly another four centuries after aging past 25, suggesting that gaining eternal life through demonification allows one to cheat the Mark's curse.
Despite what the curse entails, it is still possible to awaken the Mark after a Demon Slayer is older than 25, evident in Gyomei awakening it along with gaining its benefits. Kokushibo surmised that due to this unique situation, Gyomei would die within a few hours of activating it, which came to pass after the final fight against Muzan, though it is possible that he died due to the injuries he sustained during the battle rather than the curse itself. Furthermore, Yoriichi managed to live past the age of 80, though this can also be explained by the fact that he was born with the Mark.
Due to the curse's inconsistency, it is possible that it's simply superstition. However, there is nothing that comprehensively disproves it either, so it's just as likely that the curse does truly exist.

Keys: transparent world
The Transparent World (透すき通とおる世せ界かい Sukitōru Sekai?) is a supernatural ocular ability only accessible to Demon Slayers that have awakened the Demon Slayer Mark.
Demon Slayers that have awakened the Mark can utilize a special form of ocular extrasensory perception that alters their vision, allowing them to perceive other living beings as if they were transparent, only being able to see the inner workings of their bodies. Most notably, users are able to perceive the flow of blood, breathing, muscular contractions and joint movements of the creature they are looking at. Potentially, one can use the Transparent World's power to see inside an enemy's body as a way to predict and evade their opponent's attacks, as well as to find openings for their own strikes. The Transparent World can also be accessed by those that are blind as seen when Gyomei Himejima was not only able to form a clear image of Kokushibo in his head, but also perceive his internal organs after awakening this ability.
Additionally, the user is able to perceive the world around them as if it was in slow-motion, thus dramatically increasing their movement speed and reflexes.
Due to the varying circumstances of their awakening, the specifics of how a user accesses the Transparent World is currently unknown. However, one common theme surrounding the accessing of this ability is that the user must focus on looking at their target.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni As he was born with the Demon Slayer Mark, Yoriichi was constantly accessing the Transparent World ever since he was a child. He first displayed his proficiency in using this ability against his father's subordinate, who was a sword instructor, where child Yoriichi landed four strikes on the swordsman in the blink of an eye, knocking the instructor unconscious and causing swellings the size of fists. After the incident, Michikatsu queried Yoriichi about how he had managed to accomplish such a feat, to which he responded by saying that his opponent's lungs expand right before they strike, and that he must simply observe their bone disposition, muscle contractions and blood flow.
When Yoriichi encountered Muzan Kibutsuji as an adult, the Demon Slayer used the Transparent World to perceive the Demon King's bizarre anatomy and created a new technique to attack and destroy all of his vital organs at once.
Kokushibo Unlike his twin brother, Kokushibo was not born with the innate ability to access the Transparent World. At the age of seven, he first became aware of Yoriichi's unique vision, although it was a foreign concept to him initially. When or how he eventually awakened his access to the Transparent World remains unknown, but it is clear that, like Yoriichi, he can access it effortlessly and continuously, without experiencing any adverse effects. During the Infinity Castle Arc, Kokushibo first uses the Transparent World to determine Muichiro's identity as his descendant just by glancing at his organs and muscles. Kokushibo also used the Transparent World to perceive Gyomei's bodily structure, and remarked that it was at its peak.
As he is constantly using the Transparent World, Kokushibo can effectively use it to anticipate his opponent's attacks and strike back when they are open.
Tanjuro Kamado Tanjuro stated that he learned how to access the Transparent World from the father in the form of perception training, and was able to use it proficiently against a giant bear, chopping the animal twice in the blink of an eye before it could even attack.
Tanjiro Kamado After he was enraged by Daki and went on the offensive, Tanjiro briefly used the Transparent World through unknown means when he perceived Daki's interweaving sashes in slow-motion. During a climactic point in the fight against Hantengu, Tanjiro achieved the Transparent World and saw Hantengu's real body inside the heart of Urami. In the midst of battle against Akaza, Tanjiro remembered his father teaching him about how to access the Transparent World. By remembering the perception training he received when he was a child and Tanjuro's words of sealing off his other senses and turning his mind "invisible", Tanjiro accessed it for a brief moment which helped him dodge Akaza's nearly unavoidable attacks. Afterwards, with the help of the Selfless State, Tanjiro blitzes Akaza and slashes off his arm before the Upper Rank can react, then manages to behead him with Hinokami Kagura: Setting Sun Transformation.
During the beginning of his fight against Muzan, Tanjiro was shown accessing the Transparent World and looking at Muzan's vital organs. However, due to the excessive amount of damage from Muzan's poison, he wasn't able to stay in that state for more than what seems to be a few minutes. Even afterwards, Tanjiro attempts to use the Transparent World multiple times, but fails mainly due to lack of oxygen caused by his fatigue.
Gyomei Himejima After witnessing Kokushibo's overpowering attacks, Gyomei pushed himself to the limits and started accessing the Transparent World, being able to form a clear image of the Upper Rank and his organs despite being blind. Gyomei started using the Transparent World offensively by throwing his juzu bead the moment he swung his chain, using the Transparent World to counter the Upper Rank's own so that it slipped through his sight. He used this again by swinging his flail and tearing off a chunk of Kokushibo's upper body without the latter noticing.
It is later revealed that Gyomei not only proficiently used the Transparent World to land attacks on the Upper Rank, but also took his eyes into account and manipulated his own blood flow to throw off his senses and disrupt his attacks.
Muichiro Tokito After having his arm slashed off by Kokushibo and being injured, Muichiro somehow accessed the Transparent World when he returned to the fray and intuitively used it to land an attack on Kokushibo.
Obanai Iguro After being instructed by Gyomei, Obanai briefly accessed the Transparent World by focusing on Muzan's body, thus accurately perceiving the Demon King's organs.

Keys: blood demon arts
Blood Demon Arts (血けっ鬼き術じゅつ Kekkijutsu?) are specialized supernatural abilities possessed by higher-level demons.
Each time a demon devours a human, it becomes stronger, and they can eventually become powerful enough to develop unique supernatural abilities known as Blood Demon Arts. Blood Demon Arts are different from demon to demon, with every power seemingly based on a central theme (i.e. martial arts, sleep, the sea). Most, if not all, Blood Demon Arts are based on a demon's past, personality, ideals, interests, and/or occupation. Moreover, Blood Demon Arts may not have a singular usage, and instead grant multiple abilities under the same concept or theme. As suggested by its name, all supernatural phenomena and effects use their wielders' blood as a medium to manifest themselves in reality. Essentially, Blood Demon Arts are blood magic.
The abilities and effects granted through Blood Demon Arts can vary greatly. Some can be combat-orientated (i.e. creating dozens of blades) or more supplementary and practical (i.e. controlling a fortress, manifesting illusions). Others are more simple and recognizable (i.e. manipulating electricity and ice), while others still are more complex and unorthodox (i.e. creating invisible arrows that control a person's vector, controlling one's biology), thus making the abilities of demon-kind extremely versatile and powerful.
It is implied that Blood Demon Arts can be shared, as seen with Rui being able to share his spider-themed Blood Demon Art with demons in his "family", granting them Blood Demon Arts (as well as characteristics) based on spiders.
Blood Demon Arts are not to be confused with other supernatural abilities possessed by demons including but not limited to their Regeneration, Flesh Manipulation, Extrasensory Perception, and absorption abilities.
Weaknesses A universal weakness to Blood Demon Arts is that they are susceptible to both sunlight and Nichirin weapons, meaning that they will disintegrate or be dispelled when exposed to sunlight or cut with a Nichirin Sword, possibly attributed to the fact that each ability and technique is created from a demon's flesh and blood.
Another weakness is related to the demon's blood, where if in some situation where their body's blood gets depleted, they will be unable to use their Blood Demon Arts. This is evident in Kokushibo being unable to unleash any crescent moon blades when Genya Shinazugawa's blood-sucking trees were holding the Upper Rank down.

Keys: selfless state
The Selfless State (無む我がの境きょう地ち Muga no Kyōchi?), or the Realm of the Highest/Domain of Supremacy, is a mysterious state of being implied to be the zenith of physical combat.
The Selfless State is an esoteric and mysterious state of being in which one completely erases their Fighting Spirit (闘とう気き Tōki?), will to fight, bloodlust, anger, hatred, malevolence, drive and animosity. Once in this state, the user's behavior becomes incredibly tranquil and focused, often being compared to that of a plant.
The existence of this state of being remains shrouded in obscurity, known only to a limited few with profound understanding, and even fewer possess the capability to attain it. Throughout his centuries-long existence, Akaza has never encountered a human devoid of a Fighting Spirit, an impossibility since even infants emit a faint trace of it.
In Combat Although it does not enhance one's own combat prowess, it is implied to be regarded as the the highest state of physical combat one can achieve. It is extremely effective against high-level combatants who rely on various forms of extrasensory perception to detect malice, aura or Fighting Spirit. The incapacity to perceive the battle spirit of an individual in the Selfless State induces sensory confusion, resulting in a disorienting experience akin to battling against an inconspicuous intruder, like an out-of-place plant.
By combining the Selfless State with the Transparent World, one could strike a decisive and lethal blow by anticipating the vital points and movements of their opponent through slow-motion perception and precognition, as well as skillfully evading detection of their own attacks.
Unlocking Based on information Tanjuro Kamado shared with Tanjiro, one must engage their five senses and cultivate an acute awareness of their entire being, down to the tiniest blood vessel. By focusing on precise breath control, movements, and sensations, they can unleash maximum strength with minimal effort. As a result, the mind transcends visibility and enables the closure of all senses, leading to a state of complete detachment from oneself.
Initially, maintaining a Selfless State even for a few seconds proves to be a formidable challenge, as one will struggle and suffer from the strength being at its limits, as evident in Tanjiro's case when he entered the Selfless State for the first time. However, through diligent training, unwavering dedication, and continuous refinement, one can gradually extend the duration. With unwavering commitment, Tanjuro was able to sustain this state throughout his entire lifetime.
The Selfless State is also often referred to as the State of Anattā, a state of nothingness where one is so focused on the fight that they become completely detached from everything else and can engage in combat without wasteful thoughts and movements. The nothingness one experiences in this state is akin to plants on a battlefield, where opponents are always on the constant lookout for moving targets while presenceless plants in the background are usually completely ignored. Thus, to be in the State of Anatta is to "be" the plants on the battlefield, to mesh oneself in the background so much until their opponents don't notice them until it's too late. Kagaya Ubuyashiki concealing his intense animosity and hatred towards Muzan Kibutsuji while maintaining a calm and beatific demeanour was worth noting, but due to inconclusive evidence, it is unclear whether he entered the Selfless State.
Usage examples Yoriichi Tsugikuni When Yoriichi encountered Muzan Kibutsuji for the first time, he instantly realized the purpose of his life is to kill the Demon Progenitor, and was filled with unwavering determination to accomplish this. Yet, in Muzan's retelling of the encounter, he felt that the swordsman looked weak. He could not detect any ambition, willpower, hatred, and killing intent in him. Because of that, Muzan underestimated him and was totally stunned when Yoriichi easily decapitated and slashed him, giving him wounds that continued to burn his flesh for over hundreds of years.
Tanjuro Kamado In Tanjiro's memories of his father, Tanjuro remained perpetually in the Selfless State. He was like a plant, always gentle and would never have any emotional outbursts, which never changed in the slightest until his death. His voice was as calm as a murmuring river and he always had a soft smile. Ten days before he succumbed to his death, he demonstrated to Tanjiro how to kill a bear while remaining in the Selfless State. Tanjiro sensed how his father's smell never wavered, there was no hesitation or fear in him before or after cutting off the bear's head, nor was there any intent to kill. Tanjuro still maintained his usual plant-like presence the entire time.
Tanjiro Kamado Akaza couldn't detect Tanjiro's presence Akaza unable to detect Tanjiro's presence.
In the final battle against Akaza, Tanjiro noticed how accurately Akaza could anticipate and react to attacks, even when they originated from behind or from blind spots. Recalling Akaza's remarks about Kyojuro Rengoku's battle spirit and Inosuke Hashibira's explanation, Tanjiro deduced that Akaza must possess the ability to sense his opponent's fighting spirit through his compass technique. Drawing upon the insights Tanjuro provided him with during his childhood, Tanjiro entered the Selfless State, rendering his presence entirely undetectable by Akaza. Through the combined utilization of the Selfless State and Transparent World, he then successfully severed Akaza's head. Bewildered by his inability to perceive Tanjiro's fighting spirit, Akaza likened the experience to engaging in combat against a mere plant. He saw a distinct absence of hatred or anger in the boy's eyes, instead finding within them an aura of serene tranquility — a realm of existence that Akaza had tirelessly pursued throughout centuries of martial arts practice.
Due to Tanjiro's lack of experience in regulating his strength while in the Selfless State, he found himself suddenly flooded by an intense surge of agonizing pain and overwhelming fatigue immediately after beheading Akaza. His eyes throbbed intensely, his muscles grew numb, and he swiftly lost his grasp on the Selfless State. When the headless body of Akaza unleashed his compass technique, he instantly sensed Tanjiro's presence once more and delivered a forceful kick that sent Tanjiro flying into a wall, causing him to lose consciousness

Keys: bright red nichirin swords
Bright Red Nichirin Sword (赫かく刀とう Kakutō?, ViZ. "Bright Red Blade") refers to the ability that turns a Nichirin Sword bright red with special properties for a certain amount of time and is only accessible by Demon Slayers who have awakened the Demon Slayer Mark.
Normally, Nichirin Swords can turn into virtually any color dependent on the user and their Breathing Style. However, there is one color that cannot be normally accessed: a shining bright red. Unlike other colors, a bright red sword has special properties and can only be accessed by Demon Slayers who have awakened the Demon Slayer Mark. Moreover, any Nichirin sword can become bright red regardless of the blade's original color. However, the blade can only stay bright red for a certain amount of time before returning to normal.
Methods The bright red hue that envelops the blade is achieved through deliberate actions intended to raise the blade's temperature, fuelling the conversion of mechanical energy into thermal energy. The following three distinct methods of activation are known:
Friction: Clashing two swords together with enough force that the friction generated between them produces a substantial heat buildup, causing both blades to illuminate in a bright red hue. Pressure: Gripping a sword with an unwavering strength to exert immense pressure onto the metal surface. This focused pressure produces a localized heating effect, causing the blade to turn bright red. Ignition: Engulfing a sword in flames with Nezuko Kamado's Exploding Blood to raise its temperature to an extreme level. The searing heat of the flames turns the sword bright red. This is the only method which doesn't require a Demon Slayer Mark. Effects The most notable effect of a bright red Nichirin sword is its ability to hamper or even completely nullify a demon's regeneration. The bright red Nichirin sword also generates extreme heat, which can cause immense pain to demons and cause them to cough up blood. The extent of which a bright red Nichirin sword can hinder a demon's regenerative ability can be quite apparent, as seen with the likes of Hantengu and Muzan Kibutsuji himself taking around a dozen seconds to regenerate damage that would be healed instantly under normal circumstances.
Bright red Nichirin swords also seem to be able to nullify the regeneration of demons that have just been decapitated, thus permanently killing them even if they managed to regrow their heads after being decapitated by a Nichirin sword. This can be inferred when Kokushibo, who had just overcome his weakness of decapitation from Nichirin swords, slowly crumbled away and was unable to regenerate despite being stabbed in a non-lethal spot by a bright red Nichirin sword.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni's bright red Nichirin sword is the most potent out of all Demon Slayers, being able to burn on a cellular level and leave scars that even the Demon King himself can't heal even after centuries. Furthermore, once slashed by Yoriichi's Nichirin sword, the cells in the affected region will be continuously burned for centuries.

Keys: total concentration breathing
Total Concentration Breathing (全ぜん集しゅう中ちゅうの呼こ吸きゅう Zen Shūchū no kokyū?) is an esoteric breathing technique used by Demon Slayers.
Total Concentration Breathing is a breathing technique which involves expanding one's lungs to intake as much air as possible, accelerating one's blood flow and heartbeat while increasing their inner body temperature, resulting in their bones and muscles becoming more excited.
Using Total Concentration Breathing essentially enhances the user's physical traits and capabilities while still remaining human. Such traits include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, endurance, and the mental abilities needed to keep up with their superhuman bodies, such as a faster thought process and reaction time. Being more proficient in Total Concentration Breathing is key in raising one's survivability while fighting demons.
Strength: Users of Total Concentration Breathing gain superhuman physical strength, being able to perform feats such as slicing through boulders, generating huge gusts of wind with a single sword swing, effortlessly breaking a person's arm, shattering ribs, picking up and flinging another person with a single arm, launching a person tens of meters, and moving massive boulders with your bare hands.
Speed: Users of Total Concentration Breathing have the ability to move and travel at superhuman speeds, being able to easily move faster than the eye can see making it seem as if one teleported, cross great distances instantaneously, and evade extremely fast attacks such as sound or lightning. Stamina & Endurance: Users of Total Concentration Breathing possess inhuman stamina and endurance. Users can remain active for prolonged periods of time without tiring out. Tanjiro Kamado has once lived through 7 days of extremely harsh training where he was constantly fighting and being physically wounded without food, sleep, and water only when it rained. During the Infinity Castle Arc, the Demon Slayers had to fend off Lower Rank-level demons and even face off Upper Ranks for around 5 hours before engaging in battle with Muzan Kibutsuji until sunrise.

Keys: constant total concentration breathing
Total Concentration: Constant (全ぜん集しゅう中ちゅう・常じょう中ちゅう Zen Shūchū Jōchū?) is a Total Concentration Breathing state during the morning, noon, and night, and even while asleep that advanced Demon Slayers, such as the Hashira, can constantly maintain. There is an immense difference in strength, speed, and stamina between someone who can maintain Total Concentration Breathing at all times and someone who cannot. By doing it every minute of the day, one's physical fitness drastically improves.
Learning to maintain a constant state of Total Concentration Breathing requires tremendous effort, though, the skill itself is noted to be quite elementary despite the required effort.[8] When Tanjiro first heard of the constant technique, he thought it was impossible as he already found it extremely hard to just use the breathing technique for just a little and when he started practicing it for a longer period, he felt like dying. His lungs and head would hurt and his eardrums would pound, and for a second he was terrified that his heart was coming out of his ears.
The training process involves blowing into a special type of super durable dried gourd. The objective is to blow into the gourd with enough strength to make the gourd break apart. As training progresses, the gourd is replaced by larger and larger variations of the same type of gourd. The largest known gourd is about the size of a chair.
To be able to improve Total Concentration Breathing and blow the gourd, the user should work on their lung power first. Tanjiro did this by getting up early and run around which works out his lungs with fast movements. He also practices holding his breath. Lastly, as meditation helps with concentration, he also meditates by sitting in a Siddhasana pose on the roof of the Butterfly Mansion, and breathing slowly and deeply circulating the air all the way to the fingertips. After fifteen days, he could run longer and his lungs have gotten stronger. Tanjiro also asked Naho Takada, Kiyo Terauchi and Sumi Nakahara to hit his covers with blanket beaters when he stops doing Total Concentration Breathing during his sleep. After ten more days, he managed to successfully maintain the breathing technique an entire day without stopping and was able blow the largest gourd.
Enhanced Recovery At a more advanced level, Total Concentration Breathing is also capable of slowing down the circulation of poison in the bloodstream and even clotting wounds from severe injuries. By focusing on every inch of the body and raising the accuracy of one's Breathing, one can spread their sensitivity throughout one's body and detect and even heal hidden internal wounds they may have.
After Tanjiro Kamado was stabbed by the Train Engineer with an awl, Kyojuro Rengoku taught him to use the technique to detect the ruptured blood vessel in his stomach and then use hemostasis to stop the bleeding. During his fight with Kokushibo, Sanemi Shinazugawa was, in addition to controlling his muscles to prevent his organs from falling out, able to stop his bleeding from multiple lethal wounds by using his breathing to near-instantly coagulate his blood, a feat Kokushibo believes should not be possible for a human.
Recovery Breathing Tanjiro Kamado displayed a technique called Recovery Breathing (回かい復ふくの呼こ吸きゅう Kaifuku no kokyū?), which, by taking a brief moment to focus and steady his breath, allows him to recover from fatigue and stiff muscles that prevent his body from moving after using Hinokami Kagura twice in a row. He used this after he had collapsed on the ground from using Hinokami Kagura to allow his body to move again and prevent himself from dying from Daki's attack. He later tried to perform it again to prevent himself from blacking out from exhaustion and lack of breath, but couldn't find a moment to do so due to the combined assault of Daki and Gyutaro.

Keys: repetitive actions
Repetitive Action (反はん復ぷく動どう作さ Hanpuku Dōsa?) is a technique practiced and taught by a few individuals from the Demon Slayer Corps. It is introduced by Genya Shinazugawa, who has learned it from Gyomei Himejima.
The technique allows the user to reach a state of Total Concentration Breathing by opening all five senses, which makes it similar to the technique of the Breathing Styles. By repeating a set of pre-determined movements (like constantly praying and remembering a moment of intense anger and pain), the user can constantly raise their concentration and thus draw out all the physical powers of the body for a long period of time. The strengthening causes increased body temperature and an accelerated heart rate.
A Demon Slayer utilizing both Breathing Styles and Repetitive Action can gain immense strength that even rivals Upper Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki to an extent. It is later revealed that using both techniques can help to unlock the Demon Slayer Mark and to maintain it for a prolonged time.
Gyomei Himejima - Gyomei attains this by constantly praying the Japanese Nianfo "Namu-Amidabutsu" (南な無む阿あ弥み陀だ仏ぶつ?).
Genya Shinazugawa - Genya Shinazugawa cannot use Breathing Styles, thus he has to rely solely on the technique of Repetitive Action to achieve the level of Total Concentration Breathing. Like his tutor Gyomei he reaches this state by repeating prayers. The Mantra that Genya repeats in order to reach/maintain this technique is the set of prayer of the Amidāyurdhyāna Sutra (阿あ弥み陀だ経きょう Amida Kyō?).
Tanjiro Kamado - Tanjiro learned this technique after consulting Genya. He raises his concentration to its maximum limits by remembering the faces of his loved ones and repeatedly recalling Kyojuro Rengoku's phrase "Set your heart ablaze" (心こころを燃もやせ Kokoro o Moyase?).
Inosuke Hashibira - Inosuke quickly understood the concept behind Repetitive Action by watching Tanjiro. He imagines the Tempura that he ate together with his training group and repeatedly calls out his favorite phrase "Boar Rush" (豬ちょ突とつ猛もう進しん Chototsu Mōshin?) as his mantra. To Zenitsu's surprise, Inosuke indeed gained enough strength to move a boulder.
