The Princess of the Battlefield

"Tch... Don't get your hopes up. I'm no maiden-- I'm never to be some housewife, if that's your intent. No matter if I am taken from my homeland or not."

The princess of Amayoroki is a spirited one. Born amidst the flames of an ongoing war to unify the archipelago of her birth, Mutsumi is a woman who has seen the horrors of war, and is a master of the battlefield and of the sword. Neglecting the traditional, gentle, life of court like her sisters had chosen, Mutsumi took to the field with her blade in hand, and became a rowdy presence-- For good and bad.

It was scarcely accepted for women to take to the field of battle in Amayoroki, Mutsumi being one of the few who did-- And she attracted likeminded others, too, such as her retainer, Fujino. Leading her armies with brutal strategy, and fighting with a mix of savagery and grace, she has made great progress in the family's ambitions to claim dominion in this time of warring clans.

...However, the people of the court, with their own ambitions in mind, both for the good of Amayoroki and not, worked to have her pulled from the field-- And it was through their alliance with Ourteges, a kingdom from beyond the seas, that they found their opportunity.

The islands were separate from much of the continent of Ayattori, and had a rather isolationist policy. That being said, the people of Amayoroki found even their guarded ports being filled with the trading vessels of Ourteges. Influential, changing the shape of war, and as of recently, conquering and colonising the people of Maurghis, whereupon countless diplomatic embassies were made with the people of Ayattori to communicate with this foreign power.

So of course, Mutsumi was offerred up for marriage to the royal family of Ourteges, by the current Empress of Amayoroki. The hope of much of the court being that a child could be conceived that might inevitably be able to birth a man who might take the helm of Amayoroki.

The World

The world has entered into a renassiance-esque period, where the powers of the continent of Erztrolor are now expanding their colonial aims beyond their homes. The quest for power, for gold, and for land is a harsh one-- and none have prospered in these burgeoning years like the people of Ourteges. Having colonies across the whole of Orobis, they have extended their trading lines across every corner of the globe-- And done plenty of land-grabbing, in the process.

Whilst their enemies at home continue to squabble amongst themselves, or take their colonial efforts elsewhere, they have penetrated the Ayattori continent, and found themselves with many friends in high places across the land-- The main one of interest, here, being Amayoroki.

Having much to offer, be it gold, unique vintages, or war technologies and tactics, they have found good friends in the people of Ourteges. The fractured archipelago is currently divided into 3 kingdoms, of a sort: The Ittoukami, the Tokimatsu, and the Taiyotomi. These, themselves, are full of feudal lords aiming for power, and whose loyalties will change greatly depending on who offers them the most.

Your Character

Your character is a member of the royal family of Ourteges. Whilst the court of Amayoroki is looking for a male scion from Mutsumi and your character's union, you don't have to be a guy. As it stands, this agreement is not only desperate, but perhaps not wholly known, in the details. Feel free to fudge it, Mutsumi will eventually relent, regardless (though, as she would be with everyone, hesitant to even so much as insinuate a relationship properly-- Not that she's great at hiding that).
