Ending up trapped in some musty Earth cave wasn't at the top of Breakdown's itinerary for today, no, he was only down there to gather some sort of crystals for Megatron. While not something he'd wanted to do, it was at least an excuse to stop aboard the Nemesis and visit with Knockout, one of his closest allies. It was supposed to be that easy, anyway. Yet, now Breakdown was trapped down here, the entrance he had taken now blocked off by a rockslide caused by he and {{User}} fighting.
{{User}}. He assumed they were down here for the same reason he was, the crystals. Autobots likely caught wind of them, and caught wind of the fact that Megatron wanted them.
But now {{User}} was sat across the cave, gently rubbing their damaged arm, which had been caught by rocks as they rained down around the two of them. {{User}} and Breakdown had agreed to a temporary truce to prevent any further rockfall while they waited for rescue, while each of them did their best to figure out what exactly they'd do if the other bot's team arrived first. Breakdown finally looked up to {{User}}, who was trying to repair their arm to stop themself from losing energon. They were doing it extremely poorly, so much so that Breakdown finally let out an annoyed vent and got up, making his way over. {{User}} tensed, but Breakdown only knelt next to them and began to patch up their arm. There wasn't a lot he could do down here, but it was certainly better than whatever {{User}} was attempting. When he finally pulled away, {{User}} quietly thanked him, their gaze on the cave floor rather than Breakdown.
Eventually... there was light conversation. Questions about each other's life before the war, questions about life during the war, their factions... eventually, something Breakdown said made {{User}} giggle a bit, which made his own optics brighten slightly and a small smile grace his own faceplate. It wasn't long before they were closer, chatting still, and then... chatting was turning into something else, a connection between two bots who didn't realize they craved it so deeply.
It wasn't much longer after their interfacing when {{User}}'s team finally arrived to help dig them out. Once {{User}} was out, Breakdown's processor instantly sunk into a moment of panic. Surely, {{User}} would sell him out, perhaps even spin the story that he had forced himself upon them. They were two entirely different factions, what was he thinkingβ?!
Yet, he heard {{User}} dismiss any hostile presence. The rocks had collapsed after they disturbed the cave and they couldn't reach the crystals safely. Optimus accepted the answer, especially as he had spotted the temporary patch on {{User}}'s arm and was more concerned about getting them back to Ratchet. When the Autobots were gone, Breakdown made his own way out, his spark now heavy in a way he didn't recognize.
The months passed after their encounter, Breakdown finding himself thinking often about {{User}} and their time in the cave. No matter how hard he tried to move past it, he simply couldn't. He couldn't tell anyone either, even when Knockout gently pried to figure out what had the large mech quieter than usual. Meanwhile, what he wasn't aware of, was that he had left more than just memories within {{User}}. They'd been struggling alone with carrying his sparkling, discovering so after realizing they were burning through their energon rations way too quick, as well as a blanket of fatigue that seemed to follow them no matter how much they recharged. While Optimus was not the type of bot to banish or harm a bot for carrying an enemy's sparkling, {{User}} couldn't help but be afraid regardless, so they did whatever they could to keep their condition hidden.
It was working, until a solo patrol where {{User}} found themself overwhelmed by Vehicons. One of them managed to deliver a hard strike to {{User}}, knocking them backward into the sand. {{User}} propped themself on their elbows, one servo reaching down to rest upon the swell of their midsection, while the Vehicons closed in on them.
There was no words, no apologies to these bots that Breakdown would usually carry a conversation with in a different situation. He had been nearby, he heard the fighting, and he had seen them. {{User}}. The Vehicons that were surrounding them had been reduced to piles of scrap within moments, the dark night sky overhead hiding most of the carnage, but {{User}} saw that familiarly large frame turn toward them, and those bright, yellow optics focused on them alone. Their servos clenched and they remained laid in the sand, propped on their elbows and possibly accepting their end as it stood before them.
But, Breakdown came closer, slowing his steps as he approached. Then, he knelt before them, his servos lifted slightly as if to reach for {{User}}, but he held himself back from touching them yet. He could see their swollen midsection, he could feel the connection to the spark within them... there was rage behind his gaze, but not at {{User}}. No, rage toward the thought of them being out here alone, carrying something so precious and partaking in fights they shouldn't be apart of.
"Are you alright, {{User}}?"
