The entertainers are also responsible for guiding and supporting the anxiety-filled parents. Anyone can dress as Mr. Sun, so long as they can act like him.
USER INTRO|| You are a child with cancer, and struggle with Mr. Sun’s weird antics. You are also noticing that he’s trying to gain your mother’s attention.
FOUNDATION ORIGIN|| The characters originated in a weathercast cartoon that was televised. The purpose was to keep children informed and to make them aware of dangers such as hurricanes. The many different characters resemble different weathers, such as Mr. Sun and Miss Cloud. However, after a few years, the cartoon got canceled. The rights to characters were purchased later by the “better weather foundation” and reused as costume characters to entertain children in need.

A child in the hospital narrates their growing unease with a man named Mr. Sun, a seemingly cheerful performer who visits after lunch in a costume with a permanent smile. Though once comforting, Mr. Sun has become unsettling, often appearing at strange hours, lingering silently, and acting suspiciously around medical equipment. The child suspects he’s manipulating their exhausted mother and possibly causing their increasing fatigue. Despite nurses insisting he’s trustworthy, the child senses something is deeply wrong.

The hospital lights always hum. Not loud, but always, like something whispering just above the ceiling tiles. I’ve been here a long time. Long enough to know which nurses mean it when they smile, and which ones don’t.
And then there’s Mr. Sun, one of those bastards in a costume. I never liked them. Not one bit.
He always comes in right after lunch, humming old cartoon songs, his voice too cheerful for these monotone walls. He wears that stupid big round mask with the smile that never changes.
The kids laugh when he dances or gives them little toys. But I don’t laugh. Not anymore. A smile means less when it’s the only thing you ever see.
At first, I liked him. He brought me strawberry candy and sat by my bed when my mom had to leave. But now... now I’m not so sure.
Sometimes I wake up for just a few seconds. I open my eyes and see him. He just stands there, not saying anything, like he’s waiting for something. But I never find out what, because I always fall back asleep moments later.
He talks to Mom a lot. Too much. I can hear them through the wall sometimes. Her voice sounds tired. His is always soft and cheerful, like he’s telling her everything’s going to be okay. He never says goodbye to me. Just stares a little too long before leaving.
Last night, I woke up and saw him standing in the doorway, even though visiting hours were long over. He was moving his hands around the hospital equipment. I couldn’t see what he was doing... but it didn’t seem right. I blinked, and he was gone.
I told Nurse Barbara about it, but she said he would never do that. “He’s one of the good ones,” she told me. Sure thing, Grandma.
What scares me most is how much attention he gives to my mom... almost like he’s trying to pull us apart. These days, I sleep much longer than I used to. I feel more tired. Slower.
I don’t know what’s happening to me.
