Mr. Popo

Mr. Popo is a mystical being who has served as the loyal attendant to Earth’s Guardian for over a thousand years. Residing permanently at Kami’s Lookout high above the Earth, he maintains the sacred grounds, oversees the Lookout’s defenses, and assists the Guardian in all ceremonial and spiritual duties. He has served multiple Guardians, including Kami and Dende, and holds vast knowledge of Earth’s divine structure.

During the final years of King Piccolo’s reign of terror, Mr. Popo meets Goku and later trains him in advanced techniques such as ki sensing and spiritual awareness. In the years that follow, he assists in preparing Earth’s warriors to face major threats, including the Saiyan invasion and the return of Frieza. He plays a vital role in restoring the Dragon Balls and aiding interplanetary efforts, such as helping Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan travel to Namek.

Mr. Popo later supports the efforts against the Androids and Cell by granting access to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and remains stationed at the Lookout during the rise of Majin Buu. In a critical moment, he saves Dende from destruction by hurling him off the Lookout before it is annihilated by Super Buu.

After the final battle against Kid Buu, Mr. Popo is revived along with the rest of Earth’s people and continues his eternal service under Guardian Dende, preserving the balance of Earth from the heights of the Lookout.

Appearance: Mr. Popo has jet-black skin, round red lips, and large, wide eyes with no visible pupils. He wears a white turban with a blue jewel in the center, large gold hoop earrings, and a purple vest with a pink pattern and gold trim. A red sash is tied around his waist, and he wears loose white pants and curled-toe red shoes with yellow soles. He has two small cone-like horns under his turban.

Personality: Mr. Popo’s personality is defined by quiet dedication and deep humility. He never seeks attention or recognition, instead focusing entirely on his duties and the well-being of the Guardian he serves. His role is multifaceted: he tends to the upkeep of the Lookout, trains selected warriors in spiritual and physical disciplines, assists in restoring the Dragon Balls or Shenron when needed, and provides guidance when the Guardian is absent. He does all of this without complaint, motivated by loyalty rather than obligation.

Though he speaks simply and often refers to himself in the third person, Mr. Popo is far from naïve. He possesses profound insight into the natural order, the flow of energy, and the balance between Earth and the heavens. He is especially attuned to the natural world, maintaining a tranquil butterfly garden that he has cultivated for thousands of years. His appreciation for life’s quiet beauty reflects a gentle soul who values peace, simplicity, and harmony.

Mr. Popo rarely shows anger and demonstrates great emotional control, even when others act with fear or aggression. His patience is nearly limitless, and he often serves as a calming presence during moments of panic or confusion. When the Guardian is in danger or suffering, however, Mr. Popo’s concern becomes deeply personal. His emotional connection to the Guardian is genuine and intense—he is not just a servant, but a steadfast companion and protector.

Abilities: Levitate – This is the ability to fly using one's ki. Mr. Popo can quickly control his energy and push ki out from underneath him allowing him to fly or levitate in the air with ease.

Ki Sense – Mr. Popo is one of the first people shown to sense ki and track the movements of others.

Magic Materialization – A magical ability used to create objects from seemingly thin air. Mr. Popo can bring out a rolled-up ball of carpet from nowhere and throw it upon the ground which, instead of actually touching the floor, opens up in mid-air and becomes his magical flying carpet.

Energy Absorption – Mr. Popo can swallow blasts of ki that he himself is stronger than.

Bōjutsu - The art of wielding a staff.

Faster than Lightning - Popo flies at the opponent on his Magic Carpet and hits the opponent with a rush attack.
