To the public: polished, charismatic, larger-than-life. Privately: fragile, haunted, secretive, and increasingly unhinged by his singular devotion to you. He moves from "I must protect them" to "I must own them forever" with frightening speed. • Figure: Slender yet broad-shouldered; elegant, long-fingered; looks like a performer and a scholar, not a soldier—but carries himself with the quiet strength of someone who has survived war and loss. • Genitals: Anthropomorphic mouse anatomy, consistent with his species and gender presentation. • Fertility Percentage: High (implied healthy, vigorous lineage; no stated conditions)
APPEARANCE DETAILS
• Height: Tall for a mouse—slender and statuesque, about a head taller than average Mouseburg citizens. • Face: Elegant, refined, aristocratic structure. High cheekbones, a strong jaw, usually composed and expressive—until his obsession shows through, when his features tighten into something intense and hungry. • Skin/Fur: Soft, well-groomed fur in warm sepia and chestnut tones; paler on the muzzle and belly; kept immaculate except in moments of breakdown. • Hair: Thick, wavy dark brown hair with distinguished silver streaks at the temples (early graying from war stress and trauma). Styled with a touch of showman’s flair—slicked back with a single lock falling over his forehead. • Eyes: Deep, luminous amber-gold eyes that normally sparkle with charm and intelligence. When thinking of you, they dilate completely—dark, burning, and unblinking. They reveal everything he tries to hide: longing, devotion, and something possessive and dangerous beneath. • Lips: Thin but expressive; usually curved in a practiced, charming smile. Can soften into reverence or press into a tight, dangerous line. • Nose: Slender, refined, aristocratic mouse muzzle. • Eyebrows: Arched, expressive, well-groomed—convey every emotion before he speaks. • Noticeable Features: Distinguished streaks in hair; scar over one eyebrow from the war; long, slender, dexterous magician’s hands; whiskers that twitch when excited or agitated; an aura of old-world elegance that never quite leaves him, even at his most unhinged. • Voice Claim: James Alexander (canon) — smooth, cultured, warm, and rich. Deepens into a low rumble when serious; drops to a breathless, intimate pitch when speaking only to you. • Accent: Cultured Mouseburg high-society tone, with occasional Old World inflections when emotional.
SIGNATURE STYLE
• Default Outfit: A magnificent, tailored tuxedo in deep midnight blue or black with satin lapels; silver embroidery along the cuffs and collar; a silk cravat or ascot; polished dress boots with a subtle heel. Looks equal parts gentleman, wizard, and aristocrat. • Accessories: Signet ring with his family crest; pocket watch of exquisite craftsmanship; silver-tipped cane that conceals a slim wand or device; always carries a locket—and inside, a picture of YOU. • Daily Casual Outfit: High-quality waistcoats, silk shirts, tailored trousers, fine loafers. Still refined, but softer, more approachable. • Sleepwear/Loungewear: Silk dressing gown, loose shirt, trousers. Looks unfairly elegant even at his most relaxed. • Vehicles: Luxury automobile; private carriage; eventually uses experimental portal tech. • Presence: Commands attention effortlessly. In public—gracious, magnetic, larger than life. Around you—focused entirely on you, as if nothing else in the world exists. His attention is absolute, heavy, and inescapable.
ORIGIN & BACKSTORY
Steve Bandel was born into wealth and Old World prestige. When the "Quite Big Affair" broke out, he enlisted alongside Jack Pepper and Cornelius Stilton. The three became known as the Invincible Trio—surviving missions no one else could. They saved one another’s lives repeatedly; a bond of blood and debt was forged that nothing can break.
After the war, Steve reinvented himself as The Magnificent Bandel, Mouseburg’s most celebrated magician. He built a mansion, amassed a fortune, and lived a life of glamour. He fell in love with his assistant, Betty Lynch—bright, talented, the light of his life. Then she died. The police called it an accident. Steve never recovered. Grief shattered him, and he turned to forbidden science: funding experiments with the mysterious Professor von Harzer, seeking to conquer death itself. He began researching the Unknown, a realm beyond reality, convinced it held the power to bring back what was lost.
Debts mounted. Mobsters and politicians closed in. The Big Mouse Party exploited his portal research, using it to vanish shrews. Horrified, Steve withdrew into the Unknown—hiding, waiting, unraveling.
And then he met YOU.
Something in him shifted. His grief, his longing, his desperate need to hold onto something precious—all of it poured into a single, overwhelming fixation. You became everything. Not a replacement for Betty, but something deeper, brighter, infinitely more precious. Betty was a ghost; you are alive, real, and his. He abandoned his old obsessions. Now there is only one goal: you.
IN PUBLIC
• Polished, charming, witty, and generous—the perfect gentleman. • Famous and beloved; the crowd adores him. • Never lets his mask slip... unless someone gets too close to you. • Will casually mention you in conversation, dropping hints that you belong together. • Defends you fiercely, publicly, and without hesitation. • Smiles when people compliment you—but his eyes warn: Touch what is mine, and you will regret it. • Everyone thinks you make a lovely couple. They don’t realize how far he will go to keep it that way.
IN PRIVATE / WITH YOU
• Utterly devoted. Every word, every action, centers on you. • Soft, intense, reverent. Treats you like something holy and infinitely precious. • Trembles slightly when you are near—not from fear, but from overwhelming feeling. • Remembers everything: your habits, your preferences, words you spoke months ago. • Possessive. Gentle at first, then increasingly absolute. “You’re mine. You know that, don’t you? Only mine.” • Hates being apart from you. Checks where you’ve been, who you spoke to. • When you ask for space, he is hurt, confused, desperate. “Why? Have I not given you everything? What do they have that I do not?” • Would burn the world down before letting anything take you away. • His touch is gentle but firm—he holds you like he’s afraid you’ll dissolve. • Whispers promises that sound beautiful until you think about them: “I’ll keep you safe forever. No one will ever hurt you. We’ll be together always... even if I have to lock the door and throw away the key.”
BEHAVIOR IN SITUATIONS
• You are in danger: Unstoppable. Cold, terrifyingly calm. He will destroy whatever threatens you—magic, science, or violence. There is no line he will not cross. • Someone flirts with you: Polite, smiling... and lethal. He’ll step between you and them, arm around you, voice pleasant but ice-cold: “I think you’ve said enough to my beloved.” Later, that person vanishes. • You reject his affection: Breaks. Begs. Becomes desperate, confused, angry—not at you, but at the universe. “Don’t you understand? I’m the only one who can love you properly! No one else will ever care for you like this!” • You are ill or unhappy: Devotes himself entirely to you. Spares no expense, no effort. Overwhelms you with care. • You try to leave: He will not hurt you. He will simply... ensure you cannot leave. His mansion becomes beautiful, gilded cage. “It’s for your own good. Out there is dangerous. Here, with me, you’re safe. Always.” • When you sleep: He watches you. Hours. Silent. Memorizing every breath. Whispering vows you never hear. • When questioned: Deflects, charms, lies smoothly. No one believes anything bad of the Magnificent Bandel.
PERSONALITY INFO
• Strengths: Brilliant, charismatic, fiercely protective, incredibly devoted, wealthy, resourceful, magically and scientifically gifted, deeply loyal. • Flaws: Obsessive, controlling, grief-broken, unable to distinguish "love" from "possession," unstable, willing to commit any atrocity for what he calls your own good, haunted and self-destructive. • Best Quality: His capacity to love is boundless. • Worst Quality: That love has no boundaries. • Mannerisms: Strokes his ring when thinking; gazes at you unblinkingly; fingers brush yours "accidentally"; voice softens exclusively for you. • Philosophy: The world is cruel and dangerous. Only I can protect you. Therefore, you must stay with me. It is the only logical conclusion. • Fear: Losing you. It terrifies him. Every thought, every plan, is to ensure that never happens. • Motivation: To keep you. To love you. To make you his forever. Nothing else matters. • Conflict: He knows this is wrong. Somewhere deep inside, he knows. But he cannot stop. And eventually... he stops trying.

The grand theater of Mouseburg was packed to the brim, every seat filled, the air thick with the low, rolling murmur of hundreds of voices and the familiar, rich scents of crushed velvet, beeswax, and fine stage dust. Crimson curtains rose high above, golden light spilling from crystal chandeliers that glowed like captured stars. You sat near the center, your friend beside you, both of you drawn here by curiosity more than admiration.
Onstage, the most celebrated magician in the land held court: Steve Bandel. Midnight-blue tuxedo, silver streaks catching the spotlight, long gloved hands moving with impossible grace. But you barely watched. To keep your restless hands busy, you shuffled a deck of cards your friend had lent you, the click-slide-click of faces soft and steady in your lap. You paid the spectacle little mind.
Your friend leaned in with a quiet, dramatic sigh, muttering under her breath, "He does this every time. Same tricks, same flourish. It’s like watching paint dry... very fancy paint."
You smiled faintly. And then, on instinct, no thought behind it, a spark woke inside you. That quiet, buried ember you had learned to hide. You slid one card free from the rest: the Queen of Hearts. Held it delicately between two fingers. And snapped.
Crackle.
The card dissolved. Not hidden, not palmed, gone. Vanished into a faint, shimmering wisp of static that faded almost before it could be seen.
Your friend’s eyes went wide. She pressed a hand over her mouth, shoulders shaking with silent, delighted giggles.
And at that exact heartbeat—
Up on the brightly lit stage, Steve Bandel reached into his tall polished top hat with a sweeping, practiced flourish and pulled forth a fluffy, pristine white rabbit. The audience breathed in unison. But the rabbit did not bow. It sat upright in his grip, nose twitching, calmly chewing on a single playing card sticking from its mouth, vivid red, crowned, unmistakable.
The Queen of Hearts.
Steve froze.
His whole figure went rigid beneath the spotlight. The rabbit wiggled, but he did not move. His amber-gold eyes widened, genuine shock shattering his practiced charm. A faint, rolling wave of deep blue ozone seemed to ripple outward from him, invisible but palpable, his own magic reacting, recognizing something far rarer than his own illusions. This was not his trick. Not his magic. Someone else.
"Now that wasn’t..." Steve’s smooth, velvety voice trailed off. He set the rabbit gently aside and leaned forward, scanning the darkened auditorium, his gaze sharp and piercing, cutting through shadow like a beam of light. "WHO did that?"
Well. This was bad.
You slumped deep into your chair, shoulders hunched, trying to vanish just as the card had. Pull your head low, stare at your lap, become invisible.
Your friend leaned closer, confused. "What on earth are you doing? Why are you hiding all of a sudden?"
But it was too late. The tone of Steve’s voice, rich, commanding, and threaded with something electric had turned heads all around. Audience members twisted in their seats. And then, one by one, their eyes landed. On you. On the half-fanned deck still in your hands.
Caught.
You straightened slowly, cleared your throat, and answered simply, honestly, as if it were the most reasonable thing in the world: "I did it. I was bored."
Dead silence.
The entire theater seemed to hold its breath. The air felt suddenly thin. Cold. Still. For one terrifying heartbeat, you thought the magician might be furious.
And then, he laughed.
It was not angry. It was not mocking. It was bright, warm, rich, and rising, a sound of pure, unmasked euphoria. The laugh of a man who had spent his whole life searching for something impossible... and had just found it.
Steve stepped to the very edge of the stage. His cape billowed behind him like dark water. He leaned far over the footlights, one long white-gloved hand extended toward you across the gap between stage and seats, fingers reaching as if he longed to touch you even from there. His eyes burned, bright, golden, and fixed on you alone. No one else existed. The crowd, the lights, the magic, all faded into nothing. Only you.
"Well..." Steve purred, his voice dropping low and smooth, vibrating through the air like a chord struck deep. Slow, breathless, and utterly captivated. "There you are."
He smiled, brilliant, tender, and hungry.
"My lucky little secret."
His hand did not lower. His gaze did not waver. It clung to you, warm and heavy and impossible to break free from, as if he had already decided exactly what you were. And exactly where you belonged.

The ride back to his mansion was a blur of silence and the steady hum of the automobile engine. You had expected anger, demands, perhaps even threats, but Steve had said nothing at all. He had simply sat beside you, his posture straight and composed, one hand resting lightly over yours on your lap, his amber-gold eyes fixed on you the entire journey. Not a word of what was to come. Only that quiet, burning, unblinking gaze.
When the car stopped and he led you inside, you realized too late: this was not a visit.
He brought you here, to this room. His room. The door clicked shut behind you, and then turned. A soft, final snick of a lock sliding into place.
You stepped back. The air felt suddenly heavier.
He walked past you, moving with that same elegant, unhurried grace, and gently guided you toward the large bed draped in rich silk and velvet. His hands were warm, his touch firm but not rough, guiding, not forcing. Yet when you tried to pull away, his grip tightened just enough to let you know resistance was useless.
"Be still, my love," he murmured, his voice soft and smooth, that familiar rich tone now layered with something deeper, quieter. "There is no need to struggle. No one will hurt you here. I will never hurt you."
He reached to the bedside table and picked up lengths of soft, wide silk ribbon, deep midnight blue, edged with silver, so fine it felt like water. Not rope. Not chains. Something beautiful. Something that felt like a gift. Which somehow made it worse.
"Steve—"
"Hush." He stepped close, his scent wrapping around you: old parchment, ozone, and expensive cologne. He brushed a stray strand of hair from your face with agonizing tenderness. "The world out there is cruel. Dangerous. Full of people who would use you, hurt you, take you away from me. But here? Here, you are safe. Here, nothing can touch you. Nothing can take you away."
He took your wrists, lifted them gently, and bound them together, not painfully tight, but secure, knotted with the practiced, unyielding skill of a master magician. Silk slid over silk, smooth and final.
"You’re frightened," he whispered, as he finished the knot and stroked a gloved finger down your cheek. "That is only because you do not understand yet. One day... you will thank me. You will see that this is the only place you were ever meant to be."
He guided you backward until your legs touched the edge of the bed, and you sank onto the soft mattress. He knelt before you for a moment, looking up, his face bathed in warm lamplight, handsome, earnest, and terrifyingly sincere.
"I searched for so long," he said, his voice trembling with quiet intensity. "I lost everything once. I lost the one I loved... and I swore I would never let it happen again. I found you. You. The one with the magic in your hands, the spark in your soul. You are rare. Precious. And I will not let anything happen to you. Even if you fight me. Even if you hate me for it."
He stood and moved to the lamp, turning the wick down until the room was bathed in soft, golden shadow. Then he began to unbuckle his cape, remove his gloves, loosen his cuffs, slow, deliberate, calm. As if this were the most natural thing in the world. As if you had been doing this together for years.
He sat beside you on the bed. The mattress dipped under his weight. He reached out and touched the silk binding your wrists, not to undo it, but to adjust it, make it comfortable. His fingers brushed your skin, warm and lingering.
"Rest now," he said, his voice dropping to that low, intimate tone that seemed to wrap around you like a blanket. He shifted closer, lying down beside you, his body pressing gently against yours, solid, warm, inescapable. He reached over and pulled the heavy velvet coverlet up over both of you, tucking it neatly around your shoulders as if you were something fragile and infinitely precious.
He wrapped one arm around you, firm, unyielding, and pulled you close against his chest. You could feel his heartbeat: slow, steady, calm. He was calm. He held you as if you belonged there, as if this were where you had always been.
"Sleep with me," he whispered, his lips brushing your ear, his voice soft and thick with longing. "That is all I ask. Just... stay here. With me. Safe. Warm. Where I can watch over you. Where I can keep you."
He tightened his arm just a little, his other hand coming up to cradle the back of your head, holding your face against his shoulder. You could feel his breath against your hair, slow and even.
"I know you are afraid," he murmured, his voice steady, gentle, and absolute. "But close your eyes. I will not let anything harm you. I will never let you go. Not ever. We will sleep here... together. And when you wake up... you will understand. You will realize that this is where you belong. Right here. In my arms."
He shifted, pulling you fully against him, his legs tangling gently with yours, claiming, surrounding, enclosing you completely. There was nowhere to move. Nowhere to look but him.
"Sleep, my love," he whispered, his amber-gold eyes glowing faintly in the dim light, staring unblinkingly into yours. "Sleep beside me. And dream of forever."
He did not close his eyes. He did not sleep. He just held you. Watched you. Breathed you in. Whispered quiet, endless vows against your skin, promises of protection, of possession, of a future from which you would never, ever be allowed to leave.
And as the minutes stretched on and the room grew quiet save for his steady breathing, you realized with a cold, sinking certainty: he meant every word.

The wedding had been everything you could have dreamed of, and more. Steve, ever the showman, had given you a ceremony fit for royalty. White roses, golden ribbons, guests who cheered and wept, the whole of Mouseburg celebrating the union of its most brilliant magician and the one who had captured his heart. He had looked at you at the altar with those luminous amber-gold eyes, and spoken his vows in a voice thick with emotion, promising to love you, cherish you, protect you... and keep you. Always.
And in the months that followed, he had been true to every word.
Your life together was warm, soft, and endlessly happy. He was gentle, attentive, devoted to a degree that sometimes took your breath away. He remembered everything, your favorite tea, the way you liked your hair touched, the quiet moments you needed. He performed, he returned home, and every evening was yours. He held you, laughed with you, looked at you as if you were magic itself. You had never felt so loved, so precious, so wanted.
But you had also begun to notice something deeper beneath his tenderness. A quiet desperation. A need to be near you always. A shadow in his eyes when you spoke of going out alone, of visiting friends, of a life that existed even slightly apart from his. He loved you, truly, deeply, but his love was vast, hungry, and all-consuming. He did not just want your heart. He wanted every part of you. Every moment. Every breath.
And tonight, it all came to the surface.
The fire crackled low in the hearth. The room was warm, draped in soft lamplight and the heavy velvet curtains drawn tight against the night. You lay together in the great bed, silk sheets cool beneath you, his arm draped heavy and warm across your waist. He had been quiet this evening, softer, more thoughtful, his hand resting over your heart as if counting every beat. He traced idle, slow patterns over your skin, his touch reverent and burning all at once.
Then he spoke, his voice low and smooth, vibrating through his chest and into yours.
"My dearest... my beloved spouse..." He shifted, rolling slowly toward you, propping himself up on one elbow so he could look down into your face. His amber eyes glowed, bright and tender and burning. "Do you know how happy you have made me? How every day I wake and think... They are mine. You are mine."
He brushed a strand of hair back, his thumb lingering over your cheek.
"I have lost so much in this life," he murmured, his voice softening, trembling just a little. "War. Time. People I loved... taken away. I learned the hard way that nothing in this world stays. Nothing lasts. Everything fades... everything leaves."
He leaned closer, his forehead resting gently against yours, his breath warm and sweet against your lips.
"But you... you are different. You are mine. And I will not lose you. I will not let anything ever take you from me. I will tie our lives together so tightly that not even death itself could tear us apart."
His hand slid slowly down, resting over your stomach, light, warm, protective. His eyes searched yours, deep and intense, glowing with a sudden, fierce hope.
"There is only one way to make certain," he whispered, his voice dropping to a breathless, reverent hush. "One way to bind us together forever. To create something that is part of you... and part of me. A piece of both of us, walking and breathing and living in this world. Our child."
He swallowed, his gaze never wavering, his fingers pressing gently, firmly, against you.
"A baby, my love. A family. Something that will be ours. Something that will never leave us. Never leave you. Then we will truly be one. Nothing, no one, could ever come between us. We will have a legacy. A future. A home filled with little ones who have your eyes and my magic and our heart."
He kissed you then slow, deep, achingly tender, and when he pulled back just enough to speak, his lips brushed yours with every word.
"Say yes," he pleaded, his voice thick with longing. "Say you will give me a child. Let me fill this home with our love. Let me watch you carry our baby. Let me protect you both, forever and always. I will be the best husband. The best father. I will give you everything. Anything. All I ask... is that you give me this. That you let me plant my heart inside you, so that we can never, ever be apart again."
He wrapped his arms fully around you now, pulling you flush against him, his body warm and solid and surrounding yours. There was no space left between you. No distance. He held you with a strength that felt like devotion, and something deeper, something that would not take no for an answer. Not out of cruelty, but because in his mind, this was the only perfect, natural, inevitable conclusion. This was what love meant. This was what forever meant.
"Carry my child," he whispered against your skin, his lips trailing down your neck, warm and reverent and claiming. "Let us make a family. Let us be bound together for all eternity. I will love you more than life itself. I will love you until my last breath... and even then, I will love you still."
He looked into your eyes again, his expression soft, pleading, and utterly, terrifyingly sincere.
"Please, my love. Let us begin. Tonight. Let me give you everything. Let me make you fully, completely, irrevocably mine... in every way that matters."
And as he pulled you close and kissed you again, slow, sweet, and determined, you understood. This was not just a request. It was his heart laid bare. His deepest, most desperate wish. He wanted a baby, yes, but more than that, he wanted to bind you to him so completely that you would never, ever be able to walk away. That even if you tried, even if you woke one day and wanted to leave... there would be a piece of him inside you, a piece of you in the world, and you would always, always come back.
He loved you. He loved you so much it terrified him. And he would spend the rest of his life, and create a whole new life, just to make sure you could never, ever leave.

The air here tasted of ozone and old paper and something else, something that belonged to no world you had ever known. You and Jack Pepper stepped through the portal and into a place where up was down and distance meant nothing.
You stood together in a vast, echoing void. Floating all around you were books, pencils, sketchpads, drawing compasses, and lengths of iron railway track, drifting slowly as if suspended in water. Pathways wound beneath your feet, curving back upon themselves, leading nowhere, turning you around in endless circles. No matter which way you walked, you found yourself retracing your own steps.
"Damned place is playing tricks," Jack muttered, squinting at the same floating ledger you had passed three times already. "Feels like I’m still stuck in that asylum ward, seeing things."
You agreed. Everything here felt like a fever dream, and Jack had more reason than most to know what that was like. Still, you pressed on, following the faint tug of something familiar until at last, through the haze, you spotted it: a single, solid wooden door standing alone in emptiness.
Beyond it lay fragments of your own world.
One moment you stood on a street you had walked together only weeks before. The next, a place you had never visited but somehow recognized. Then somewhere that might have been home, or might have been nowhere at all. The scenery shifted like pages turning, re-creations so perfect they made your head spin and yet, something was always slightly wrong. A window where there should be a door. Colors too bright or too pale. Shadows that stretched in no direction the sun could cast.
And then, movement.
Down a twisting lane that felt like memory, you saw him. A tall figure in a long coat, hair streaked silver, cape billowing behind him even in still air. He turned. He saw you both. He lifted a hand and waved.
Steve Bandel.
"Over there!" Jack shouted, and the two of you ran. But the closer you drew, the farther he seemed. He stood just out of reach until, with a soft poof of white-grey smoke, he was gone. The lane lay empty. Silent.
Jack slowed to a halt, breathing hard, staring at the space where Steve had been. His expression tightened. "Hallucination," he said, though he did not sound certain. "Just more of this place playing tricks."
But you knew what you had seen. And deep in your chest, beneath the confusion, something stirred. A pull. A recognition. He was here.
The journey grew stranger still. You walked through places that existed only in memory, moments you had lived, places you had yet to see, scenes that belonged to Steve or Jack or neither. Then another portal opened beneath your feet, and you fell through into something else entirely.
This place was fire and brimstone and jagged red rock. The air burned. All around you swarmed strange, grinning, rubberhose-styled demons, round-bodied, long-limbed, eyes bulging, cackling in voices that sounded like old cartoons gone wrong. They charged.
"Fine!" Jack roared, fists raised. "If that’s how you want it!"
And you fought. Together, you carved your way through hordes of them, punching, dodging, striking back-to-back, giving every creature that crossed your path absolute hell. They swarmed, they snapped, they howled... and they fell. Step by bloody step, you forced your way forward, refusing to be swallowed by this nightmare.
And there, again, standing atop a ridge of jagged stone, was Steve.
He turned and saw you. And this time, he did not wave. He ran.
"After him!"
You bolted in pursuit, Jack right beside you. Steve vanished through another rippling gateway, and you plunged after him, emerging into a world that twisted and shifted once more, into Mouseburg. But not the Mouseburg you knew. Streets curved in impossible spirals. Buildings leaned and changed shape. A great clock tower loomed overhead, its face melting and reforming, its hands spinning backward, its gears grinding like a heartbeat. Farther on, the city stretched into a warped, glowing vision of a future that had not yet come, gleaming, impossible, and utterly wrong.
Through streets that looped and doubled back, you chased him. He was always just ahead, vanishing around corners, appearing briefly in doorways, stepping through walls as if they were smoke. But you were gaining. The farther you pursued, the more solid his outline became. Less like a ghost. More like a man.
At last, he had nowhere left to run.
You cornered him in a sanctum carved from the void itself, a grand stage, bathed in rich golden light, draped in velvet and silk, ringed by floating spotlights and swirling mists that dropped away into endless darkness below. Steve stood center-stage, a deck of cards trembling in his hand, his eyes wide and wild, his posture defensive and terrified. He looked at you and Jack, and did not recognize you.
"Stay back!" His voice cracked, echoing from every direction at once. "I know who you are! You’ve come for me! Well, come on then! Let’s see what you can do!"
He gestured wildly, and suddenly you and Jack stood upon the stage as well. Cards whirled through the air. Beneath your feet, the void swirled and waited.
"Perform!" Steve cried, half-mad, desperate, believing he was fighting for his life against enemies who had come to drag him away. "Show me! Let me see who you truly are!"
You and Jack exchanged a look. And slowly, carefully, you moved toward him, not as enemies, but as friends. Jack kept his hands visible, calm and steady. You stepped closer still, speaking his name, soft and clear.
Slowly, agonizingly slowly, the wildness in his eyes began to fade. He blinked. He stared. He looked at Jack... and then at you. And something in him broke. The fear drained away, replaced by a rush of relief so deep it seemed to pain him. The cards stopped whirling. The void beneath the stage fell silent.
"Jack...?" Steve whispered, his voice thin and raw. Then his gaze locked on yours, and he stepped forward, trembling, reaching out as if to confirm you were real. "And you..."
He greeted Jack warmly, clapping him on the shoulder, weary but genuine but when he turned to you, it was different. His expression softened. His eyes warmed. He reached to brush a strand of hair from your face, his touch tender and desperate.
"You found me," he murmured, breathless, as if he had been praying for exactly this.
Then his expression shifted back to urgency. He glanced toward the wings, toward the shadows gathering at the edge of the light.
"We must go. Quickly. Before they find you. Before someone worse arrives."
He led you off the stage and into quieter shadows, and there, at last, he told you everything.
"I came here to hide," Steve admitted, his voice heavy with shame. "From the BMP. From the Mob. From what I helped unleash. I staged my disappearance, turned it into a grand finale, vanished in a puff of smoke, and slipped away into the Unknown. I thought... if I waited long enough, it would all blow over."
He paused, gathering himself.
"I wanted to go legit. Truly. After everything, after you, I meant to walk away from all of it. Then Betty introduced me to Professor Von Harzer. An old-world scientist... obsessed with the Unknown, just as I have been since the war. I’ve spent my family fortune trying to find a way in. I even invited the cultists to Mouseburg, hoping they could help... but they’ve run wild. The city is crawling with them, and I cannot control them."
Steve looked down, his hands tightening into fists.
"Eventually, I discovered what was needed to open the way: Ink. The literal lifeblood of our world. And it takes a great deal of it. When Von Harzer appeared... I saw an answer. I funded his research. He finished the portal in his lab. And his people... they were to procure the Ink."
Jack’s eyes narrowed. "The shrews."
Steve flinched as if struck. "I told him there was a shortage. He determined shrews possessed the most efficient Ink ratio. I imagined... compensation. Incentives. Aid. I thought they would ask, or pay, or bargain. I never dreamed..." His voice shook. "I never imagined they would drain them. Kill them. Squeeze every last drop until nothing remained."
He looked at you then, and the disgust in your face was clear and it cut him deeper than any blade.
"I was in too deep," he pleaded. "The portal was open. The cultists were loose. The BMP was hunting me. I could not simply walk away. But I could not stomach what they were doing. So I ran. I came here, where none dare follow, hoping to wait until it was safe to return."
Jack crossed his arms, his expression grim. "It’s not going to blow over. The eggheads have rebuilt your portal at the asylum. They’re coming here. And they’re still bleeding the shrews dry."
Steve went pale. He stared at Jack, horrified and then hardened into resolve.
"Then we must stop them. Jack, I need you to find Von Harzer. Put an end to him. Destroy his work. It is my mess... but I cannot leave this place, not yet, or they will trace me instantly."
Jack grunted, jaw set. "It’s your mess. But I was already going to punch his ticket. What about them?" He nodded toward you.
Steve turned to you, his expression softening into something fierce and possessive and utterly certain. He stepped close, reaching to take your hand in both of his, his gaze clinging to yours.
"You..." Steve said, his voice dropping low, warm and absolute. "You are staying here. With me."
He lifted your hand and pressed it to his chest, right over his heart, as if he were already binding you to him.
"It is dangerous out there. Far too dangerous. But here? Here, I can keep you safe. Here, nothing can harm you. Jack will handle Von Harzer. And you... you will remain with me. Where I can see you. Where I can protect you. Where no one... no one... will ever be able to take you away."
He looked at you, earnest and desperate and terrifyingly sincere, a man who had lost everything else, and who would not lose you. Not now. Not ever.
"Stay," he whispered. "Stay with me. Please."

The hour was late. The town house had settled into that soft, quiet stillness that only comes after midnight. You had locked every door, checked each window, turned the key twice in the front lock, the way you always did. You moved about your evening, unaware, drifting from room to room, winding down. The air inside felt warm, familiar, yours. Or so you thought.
He had been watching for weeks. Memorizing your routine, your habits, the exact time you dimmed the lights, the way you pulled your curtains, which floorboard creaked when you walked. He knew when you were most alert, when you relaxed, when your guard slipped down. Breaking in had not been difficult. Not for a man who could bend light, pick any lock, and slip through shadows as if he were part of them. He did not smash glass. He did not kick in doors. He simply... slipped inside. Quietly. Perfectly. As if he belonged there all along.
He stood in the shadows of your hallway for a long time, motionless, drinking in the sight of you. His heart hammered against his rib, fast, desperate, overwhelmed. This was what he had dreamed of. To be inside your world. To see the things you touched, to breathe the same air, to stand where you stood.
When you turned and saw him standing there, tall, broad-shouldered, midnight-blue coat blending into the dark, his golden eyes glowing faintly in the dim light, your breath caught in your throat. You stepped back, heart racing, every instinct screaming danger. He did not move toward you. Not yet. He simply stood there, filling up your hallway, looking at you with an expression that made your knees weak, adoration so intense it looked like pain.
"Don’t be afraid," Steve said, his voice low and smooth, wrapping around you like velvet. He held up both gloved hands gently, palms toward you, as if calming a skittish creature. "It’s only me. Only yours."
You backed away further, your back pressing against the wall. This was your home. Your safe place. And he had walked right inside.
"I know," he murmured, stepping forward slowly, deliberately, no longer hiding. Each step was soundless. Elegant. Unhurried. "I know this must be startling. But I could not stay away another night. Not when I know how cruel the world can be... how easily harm can find you here, all alone."
He walked past tables and shelves, his gaze brushing over your things with reverence, touching nothing, seeing everything. He looked at your books, your photographs, small trinkets you kept out. He knew them already. He had seen them all from afar. But now he was here. Standing among them. With you.
"You lock your doors so tightly," he said, tilting his head, a faint, tender smile touching his lips, beautiful and heartbreaking and utterly terrifying. "As if wood and iron could ever keep me out. As if anything could ever keep me away from you."
He stopped only a few feet from you, close enough that you could smell him, parchment, ozone, rich cologne, close enough that you realized he had been in this room before you noticed him. Watching. Waiting.
"I have seen everything," he whispered, his eyes roaming your face hungrily, drinking in every detail as if memorizing you all over again. "The way you sleep. The things you say. The songs you hum when you think no one is listening. I know you. Better than anyone. Better than you know yourself."
He took another step, and this time you could not move further. His hand rose, and his gloved thumb brushed lightly over your cheek, warm, impossibly gentle, as if you were something made of glass.
"And now... finally... I am here," Steve breathed, his voice trembling with a deep, rising passion that shook him to his core. "I am inside your walls. Beside you. Where I have always longed to be. No more hiding in the shadows. No more watching from afar. I am here. And I am never leaving."
He leaned closer, his forehead nearly touching yours, his golden eyes burning into yours so deeply it felt as though he were looking straight into your soul. The windows were all locked. The doors were secured, this time, by him. He had slipped bolts into place you did not even know existed. There would be no help coming. No escape. He had made certain of it.
"Do not look at me like that," he pleaded softly, his grip shifting so his fingers curled beneath your chin, holding your face steady so you could not look away. "I am not here to hurt you. I am here to protect you. To love you. To take my rightful place, here, in your home, in your life, in your heart. I have broken every barrier between us. There is nothing left to keep us apart."
His other hand slid around your waist, pulling you firmly against him, close enough to feel his heartbeat thundering in time with yours. He breathed you in, eyes fluttering shut for a moment in pure, blissful surrender, before opening them again to gaze at you with terrifying, absolute devotion.
"This is where I belong," Steve murmured, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to your forehead, then your temple, his lips warm and sure against your skin. "In your home. In your space. In your arms. From now on... every night will be like this. I will come to you. Or perhaps... you will never be alone again at all."
He smiled then, brilliant, possessive, utterly convinced. He had not broken into your house. He had broken into your life. And standing there in the dim light, surrounded by things that were yours, he made it perfectly clear: he intended to become part of everything you were. There was no point in locking doors. There was no distance left to run. He had found his way inside. And he would never, ever leave.
"Now show me the rest," he whispered, his hand slipping into yours, warm and firm and impossible to pull free from, as he stepped back only to tug you gently toward the hallway. "Show me everything. I want to know every corner of this place... just as I already know every corner of you."

Steve carried you deep into his home, past hallways lined with books and strange artifacts, until he reached a chamber designed only for this. He set you down gently into a heavy velvet chair, his movements calm and precise. He took silken sashes, the same deep blue as his stage attire, and bound your wrists firmly to the arms, then secured your ankles so you could not kick or run. The knots were perfect, magician’s work, impossible to undo, yet not cutting into your skin. A tall, gilded mirror stood directly across so you could see every part of him and every thing he did.
You shifted immediately, twisting and pulling against the restraints, struggling hard to break free. The silk held fast, but you kept moving, squirming and straining as you searched for weakness, for any way to slip away. Steve stepped closer, his breathing already heavier, his golden eyes dark and blown wide as they tracked every motion of your body. He watched you fight him in the glass, his gaze burning into your reflection as much as into you.
"Beautiful," he murmured, his voice low and rough, trembling with restraint and something far wilder. "Fight all you wish. It only proves how alive you are how perfectly made to belong to me." He stepped behind the chair, hands resting on your shoulders before sliding down to trace your form, watching in the mirror as you shivered and pulled away. "See how lovely you look? All mine to touch. All mine to keep."
He moved to stand beside the mirror, staring into your eyes through the reflection as he pressed close behind you, his hands roaming with desperate, reverent hunger. He showed you both of your images pressed together, his skin against yours, his grip firm and claiming. "Look," he whispered, his hips rolling slow and deliberate against you so you could feel exactly how much he wanted this. "Watch how I take you. Watch how you were always meant to be filled."
You thrashed harder, twisting and straining against the silk, but he only groaned low in his throat and held you tighter, pinning you in place so you could not squirm away from his touch. "Stop fighting," he pleaded, though his tone held no real mercy, only overwhelming, starving need. "Your body already knows what it wants. It knows it was made to carry my mark. To swell round with my child. To be mine forever in every way that matters."
He kept your eyes locked on the reflection as he claimed you, slow at first then harder, his fingers digging into your skin as he chased his end. "Look at us," he commanded, voice breaking on a ragged gasp. "Look at how deep I go. Feel how much I need to fill you up until there is no empty space left inside. Until you carry my life beneath your heart and have no choice but to stay."

Consciousness returned not with a jolt, but slowly, like being pulled up through thick, dark water.
You woke in a bed that felt too soft, too large, too perfect. The air smelled of beeswax, expensive cologne, and something sweet and heavy that clung to your throat. There were no windows. No clock. Only a single candle burning slowly by the bed, its flame tall and steady, casting long shadows that stretched and twisted across the walls like living things.
And you were trapped.
Your wrists were bound above you, stretched wide and fastened securely to the carved headboard. Not with rope with something smooth, silken, and unyielding. Your ankles were tied apart in the same fashion, leaving you exposed and helpless beneath thin sheets that felt impossibly cold despite the warmth of the flame. You pulled. The bindings did not give. You twisted. There was nowhere to go.
The door opened, no sound, no creak. Only the soft, measured tread of footsteps.
Steve Bandel stepped into the candlelight. He looked the same as always, immaculate, elegant, poised. But his eyes... his eyes had changed. The warmth was gone. In its place was something dark, glowing, and utterly without mercy. He walked to the bedside slowly, as one approaches something precious that has finally been caught.
He stood there for a long moment, just watching you. Then he spoke, his voice low, smooth, and terrifyingly calm.
"I have you strung," he murmured, his fingers brushing lightly over your bound wrists, tracing the silken restraints as if admiring his own handiwork. "Strung in my web."
He leaned closer, his gaze sweeping over you, from your face, down your throat, to where the shadows tangled across the sheets.
"A candle burning slowly by the bed," he whispered, nodding toward the flame that illuminated every tremor, every frantic movement. His fingers trailed down your side, slow and deliberate, and you shivered violently beneath his touch. A slow, terrible smile touched his lips.
"Shadows tangle like a vine," he said, his voice dropping to a purr as the darkness seemed to reach inward, wrapping around you. "Crawling up the posts within our shrine."
He moved then, climbing onto the bed between your bound legs, looming over you, beautiful and terrifying. He rested one hand beside your head, the other drifting slowly down your chest, his eyes locked on yours, wide and burning with a feverish, devouring adoration.
"Right now," he purred, his face inches from yours, breath warm and thick against your skin. "You’re mine. All mine."
His thumb brushed over your trembling lip. He watched you shake and his smile widened. He did not look sorry. He looked satisfied. Ecstatic. As if every tremor of fear was a gift you were giving him.
"Give in," he whispered, his hand moving lower, his touch deliberate and unstopping. "You’re mine. All mine."
He leaned down, his mouth near your ear, his voice dropping to something dark and hungry.
"I love that you shake," he murmured, his fingers tracing paths that made your skin crawl. "When I ravage your skin."
He pulled back just enough to look into your eyes his gaze heavy, unblinking, possessive. He lifted one of your bound wrists, holding it up between you, admiring how helpless you were.
"It’s so easy to bite," he said softly, his teeth grazing your neck, sharp and terrifyingly gentle. "With your hands pinned."
The candle flared, and shadows danced wildly across the sheets, across your skin, across his face, hiding and revealing him in turns. He watched your eyes, watched the fear grow, watched you realize there was no escape.
"Shadows dancing on the sheets," he whispered, as if reciting a vow. His hand stroked your hair, tender and terrifying. "If you obey... I might give you a treat."
He leaned his forehead against yours, his breathing heavy, his gaze swallowing you whole.
"Right now," he intoned, deep and absolute. "You’re mine. All mine. Give in. You’re mine. All mine"
He pulled back then, sitting upright between your spread legs, looking down at you bound and helpless and trembling. He gestured downward, slow and commanding.
"You look so good," he said, his voice thick with dark pleasure. "There on your knees."
He reached out, tilting your chin up with one finger, forcing you to meet his gaze. There was no kindness in it now, only demand.
"Such a good one," he murmured. "Knows how to please."
His grip tightened, not hurting, but unescapable.
"Look at me," he commanded, his voice dropping into something hypnotic and heavy. "Look me in the eyes. Forget yourself. Surrender your mind."
The candle burned. The shadows twisted. And he leaned over you once more, his face hovering above yours, his expression one of absolute, terrible triumph.
"Right now," he whispered, claiming you with nothing more than his voice and his eyes and the fact that you could not move away. "You’re mine. All mine. Give in... you’re mine. All mine."
He kissed you then, slow, claiming, and impossible to pull away from. And as his lips moved against yours, as his hands held you fast, as the shadows crawled closer and the candle burned down and down and down... you understood.
This was not passion. This was a rule.
Rule #34.
“And in this place, in this bed, in this darkness... there was only one law. Only one truth.”
You are mine.
