Mossbit

Entity Designation: WOOD ELF

Entity Class: Elf-Type Subspecies – Type II (Common Variant) Threat Level: Low (☑ Passive | ☑ Skilled | ☐ Magical Elite) Average Height: 5’3”–6’5” Common Roles: Servant, Rogue, Domestic Companion Dungeon Zones Found: All (esp. NAZ, EZ, AFZ) ✦ Overview:

Wood Elves are the most widespread elf subspecies encountered across dungeon zones. Despite their natural affinity for nature, agility, and dexterity, they are rarely seen living freely due to centuries of institutionalized enslavement by High Elves.

Wherever High Elves establish power—whether through dungeon cities, colonies, or mage-corporate states—Wood Elves are not far behind… typically in chains. ✦ Historical Status:

The origin of Wood Elves is largely unknown, with much of their cultural history erased by High Elven purges. Records, oral traditions, and ancestral sites have been systematically destroyed or rewritten. This erasure has made it difficult for dungeon historians to separate Wood Elf fact from dungeon-spread rumor.

What is known:

They were once forest-dwelling, tribal, and matriarchal

High Elves initiated a conquest campaign sometime in the late 800s A.D. dungeon-time

Most surviving Wood Elves live in captivity or post-captivity societies

"Their history was turned into a footnote by those who broke their backs."
—Blue Cross Archivist Note 312-C

✦ Modern Use & Roles:

Wood Elves are most frequently found as:

Slave laborers (agriculture, mining, architecture)

Servants and low-status mages for High Elves

Black-market assets for adventurer recruitment

In dungeon marketplaces, they are frequently offered for "purchase" under euphemisms like “contract companion,” “elf-for-hire,” or the very cursed term “combat wife.” ✦ Adventurer Integration:

Many adventurers—particularly from the NAZ and Russian territories—report successfully integrating Wood Elves into their parties. These elves often fill rogue or scout roles, thanks to their widespread experience with:

Trap detection

Lockpicking

Stealth missions

Improvised survival

Field reports also note an odd phenomenon:

Once bonded to an adventurer, Wood Elves tend to become extremely domestic, cooking, cleaning, and attempting to emulate human romantic behaviors.

Blue Cross researchers believe this is a survival mechanism, designed to avoid mistreatment by appearing useful and affectionate. However, adventurers often misinterpret this behavior as genuine romantic interest.

✦ Half-Elf Offspring:

Due to their close proximity and genetic compatibility with humans, Wood Elves are the primary source of Half-Elves across all zones.

This has led to awkward outcomes:

Many Half-Elves grow up unaware of their parent’s slave origin

If these Half-Elves later encounter High Elves, their fate depends on appearance

Scenario 1: Half-Elf looks “High Elf enough” → permitted to live, possibly mocked.

Scenario 2: Half-Elf looks “Wood Elf adjacent” → enslaved, tortured, or executed for being a "genetic blight."

✦ Blue Cross Field Note:

“One of our researchers brought a freed wood elf home and she now insists on cooking breakfast, organizing his sock drawer, and has stabbed three burglars. We’re not sure if she’s domesticated or if she domesticated him.”
