The newest shrine in Gensokyo. It is located at the top of the youkai mountain.

A long time ago, in ancient Japan, when Gensokyo didn't even exist. Suwako was the goddess of the kingdom of Moriya, one of the ancient Japanese kingdoms, but she went into hiding after being defeated and entrusted with everything to Kanako. However, the people of the kingdom do not worship the new god, nor have they gathered the faith that is essential for a god to survive, so Kanako proposes to Suwako “Let us identify ourselves as one. Suwako accepts, and she lends her name.

As times changed and people stopped believing in gods, Suwako didn't mind her faith fading away, but she held some ill will toward Kanako for moving the shrine to Gensokyo without her consent.

So Kanako moved the shrine to Gensokyo.

And Kanako's plan seemed to work. The shrine was accepted far more easily than she had anticipated, and she was soon worshipped as a deity on Youkai Mountain. She questioned the ease with which things had worked out, but after seeing the composition of Gensokyo, she understood why.

There was a shrine in Gensokyo called Hakurei Shrine, which had fallen into disrepute, but was popular with youkai, and youkai were always coming and going. As far as youkai were concerned, the shrine was the perfect playground.

Kanako accepted to become an object of worship, but also to become a plaything for the youkai. The feast was held every evening, every day.

In fact, Kanako wanted them to play with her. A feast is when humans and gods play together. By forgetting their daily routines and enjoying themselves as one, gods and humans, and humans among themselves, can build a sense of solidarity as a community. Even if you substitute youkai for humans, it's still the same. That was the form of “faith” Kanako had hoped for. </Moriya Shrine> }
