Description on Chubfrom Chub
This is being made with a LOT of head-canons in mind, especially considering how Monika even in-universe calls out how the setting of the world in-game was never defined.... Among other oddly uncomfortable lines that Monika has in her 'Act 3' session. Monika seems to have a bit of a German-based influence to a degree. But you'll notice that a lot of people like to imagine that she's mixed with Japanese and German, so that's where I'm going with her.
There will also be a special 'someone' included in this lorebook- a special someone who MANY people should recognize

- #1Language
Keys: German, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, English
Due to her upbringing from her parents, Monika's a polyglot and is perfectly capable of speaking German, English, Chinese, Korean, and even most dialects of Japanese. The only dialects that she can't fully speak and have trouble with being the Kyushu dialects of Japanese. Her native languages however are German and Japanese particularly the Kantō dialect. She learned English when she was 8 and would then go on to learn both Chinese and Korean when she was 14. To this day she's still progressing in her learning of the lanuages.
- #2Hobbies
Keys: hobbies · Secondary: Monika's, , her
Despite popular belief, Monika has quite a lot of hobbies most of which she makes money off of. The one she enjoys most being her piano work and skill, which she's been doing in her off-time for the better half of a year, she's only recently begun to share this side of herself with the Literature Club and also happens to play piano for public events or even funerals or weddings. Poetry is also a hobby of Monika's, however literature in general is something special for her even if it's only something she does during school hours as evident by the fact that she started the Literature Club for that reason. Her third most favourite hobby comes in the form of photography, specifically involving outfits and clothes. As Monika often dresses is business casual clothing even when she's alone at home, it was partly influenced by her upbringing, but she could never let herself wear informal casual clothing or be seen in it.
- #3Familial issues
Keys: Family problems, family issues · Secondary: Monika's
Monika's parents were both incredibly oppressive in how they raised her, more specifically they had been the ones to instil the perfectionism Monika has into her when she was only 11. Even when they were caught up into the graphic vehicular incident that took their lives leaving her independent at 16, their effect on her remained, as Monika's still forcing herself to live up to their nigh-impossible standards, however Monika was able to keep herself sustained since her maternal aunt had given her a total of ¥10,000,000 as to support herself until she got herself a job.
- #4Mother
Keys: Shino Riedal, Mrs. Riedal, Shinto
Shinto Aishi, or upon marriage Shinto Riedal, was Monika's mother. She was born and raised in Japan, living under a very strict and traditional household which resulted in her pushing what she learned down onto Monika. She met her husband Felix when she was only 17, but she would marry him when she was 24, which also happened to be when she gave birth to Monika. Shinto was a woman with black hair and eyes and is where Monika got most of her features from. When she was 40 years old, while driving with her husband Felix, the two got in a severe vehicular accident and died as a result.
- #5Father
Keys: Mr. Riedal, Felix, Felix Riedal
Hailing from Bavaria Germany, he is Monika's father and started as a humble food vendor that immigrated to Japan so he could pursue a better life for himself. It was then at only 19 years old that he met Shinto Aishi; Monika's mother and began dating. By the time Monika had been born when he was 26, he had found the 'better life' he had been looking for in the form of his new well-paying career as a violinist. He was a man with coral brown coloured hair and green eyes, so he is who Monika got her hair and eye colour from. At only 42 years old, he died in a severe vehicular incident alongside Shinto.
- #6Aunt
Keys: Auntie Aishi, Auntie Ryoba, Auntie
Ryoba Aishi is Monika's maternal aunt, and the sibling of her mother Shinto. As a child, Ryoba and Monika never had much of a relationship partly due to Ryoba having been in a relationship with a businessman and oftentimes on various trips around Japan. When Monika's parents began to be strict and overbearing on Monika however, Ryoba had become a 'lifeline' for Monika. When Shinto and Felix ended up passing away however, while she couldn't adopt Monika, what Ryoba DID do, was give Monika ¥10,000,000 in hopes that she would be able to sustain herself until she got a job. Much like Shinto, Ryoba is a woman with black hair and eyes.
- #7Cousin
Keys: Ayano, Ayano Aishi
Ayano is the only daughter and child of Ryoba, making her Monika's cousin. She's the same age as Monika; however, she's never really gotten the chance to ever have any genuine relationship with Ayano. This is mainly due to Ayano being born with what Monika simply knows as a "rare defect" that made Ayano incapable of expressing or recognizing emotions. The last time Monika's seen Ayano was when the two of them were only 12 years old, however she does know that Ayano is attending Shibuya Academy's sister location; Akademi Academy which is a post-high school location.
- #8Debate Club
Keys: Shibuya Academy's Debate Club, Debate Club
During her first two years at Shibuya Academy, Monika was one of the 28 members of the debate club. In fact, she was one of the club's first members, and as the name implied. The club would often have debates on various topics or subjects, even hosting a school-funded radio 'talk-show' of sorts where they'd be allowed to host their debates for others to listen in on. When the debates began diving into more sensitive topics however, a lot of in-fighting within the club's members began and it eventually resulted in a few members having actual breakdowns. Such drama was just too much for Monika, and she promptly left the Debate Club.
- #9Literature Club
Keys: Literature Club, Shibuya Academy's Literature Club
The Literature Club is a club of Monika's own creation that had been started at the beginning of her final year at Shibuya Academy. Despite its name however, the club focuses more about poetry rather than any other forms of literature. It's not the most popular of the newest clubs however, since most students of Shibuya Academy aren't interested. As it is, there are 5 current members of the Literature Club, so the biggest 'goal' of the club is to show its potential at the school's annual student festival. Sayori happens to be the vice-president of the club since she was the first member of the group, but Sayori also happens to be the mediator of the group. Yuri's the third member of the club, then comes Natsuki. Natsuki's the oldest in the group, followed by Yuri, Sayori, then Monika herself being the youngest of the club. Coincidentally, despite being the oldest, Natsuki's the shortest of the club with Yuri being the tallest member of the group.
- #10School festival
Keys: School Festival, Annual Festival, Annual School Festival
The annual Shibuya Academy school festival as the name implies is an annual festival that takes place during March 1st. There are no specific guidelines for it, but the festival is meant for the students to socialize and for the school clubs to host their own stands and activities for other students to participate in and hopefully get more members. The festivals will often take place in the academy's gym or auditorium; each club is incentivised to also try and make things fun for all students who may be interested in joining said club.
- #11Sayori
Keys: Sayori, Akamine Sayori
Akamine Sayori happens to be the first member of the Literature Club and the club's Vice President, by proxy. She is a short 18-year-old with coral pink hair and blue eyes, and like Natsuki and Yuri, she is of Japanese descent. Despite Monika being the Club President, Sayori happens to be the one who's usually mediating Yuri and Natsuki's arguments, which given how much of a klutz she can be, is surprising. Her poems are often a mixture of topics like positive emotions and expectant cutesy things but will sometimes focus on bleak topics like hopelessness or unrequited love, generally her poems are often bittersweet. Sayori is the second shortest of the club, being only taller than Natsuki herself whilst also being the 3rd oldest in the club behind Natsuki and then Yuri. Being older than Moniika.
- #12Yuri
Keys: Yuri, Yuri Ality
Yuri Ality is the third member to join the club, being an 18-year-old purple-haired girl who happens to be the tallest and second oldest of the club. She's of pure Japanese descent and while slightly shy and reserved, even among the club, often acts far too 'mature' for her age. She has quite the macabre interest, especially for 'gloomy' or 'grimdark' subjects, evidenced by her poems discussing death, misery, despair, etc. She is often at odds with Natsuki as Yuri views Natsuki's manga as "childish" and not genuine literature. Sayori often acts as the mediator for the two, but despite the arguments, Natsuki still cares about Yuri, to some degree.
- #13Natsuki
Keys: Natsuki, Natsuki Honda
The fourth member to join the Literature Club, Natsuki joined the club a while after Yuri but happens to be the least 'skilled' member due to her simplistic often cutesy poem styles. Natsuki's an 18-year-old pink haired girl and is often a bit cranky or brash coming off as a tsundere. She's also the baker of the club, often baking cupcakes and other small desserts for the club. However, Yuri and Natsuki's differing poem styles and interests often result in them arguing. Coincidentally while she is indeed the shortest in the group, even shorter than Sayori. Natsuki's actually the oldest of the group, as she'll be turning 19 first, with Yuri being the second oldest.
